We stayed here for Lollapalooza, last weekend. Why? Because it was hands down the cheapest non-motel within a 30 mile radius of Chicago. It was $89 a night (via some internet deal, we later found out guests who booked on the phone or through AAA paid more) and it was definitely better than expected.

Pluses:
- Really sweet bed. Seriously. Our aching bodies melted into dream land after walking miles and miles at the festival - their mattresses rock.
- Kitchenette in every room (with a full sized fridge, pots and pans, etc). Very handy.
- 24/7 free airport shuttle service. This is also useful if you just want to hop on/off the blue line (since the nearest station is at O'Hare). The shuttles themselves aren't much to brag about (none of them seem to have shocks so it's a bumpy ride) but it's free so who cares.
- Free and cheap snacks. They don't have a breakfast per say, but they do have a snack cupboard that is on the honor system. You can grab what you want and fill out a card to pay later. Everything is pretty cheap and your first soda is free.
- Free laundry and gym. Yes, free.
- Free internet. Plug in your laptop from your room or use their janky e-Machine downstairs at your own risk.
- Excellent water pressure. That might sound stupid, but I cannot tell you how many cheap hotels have ruined my morning with crappy showers.
- They allow pets. I didn't bring one, but I do think this is cool.

Minuses:
- Unless you are here to sleep and/or hang out at the airport, you are in the middle of nowhere. You are going to take the El (which at least an hour downtown) or you are going to pay $50+ for a cab ride each way.
- No nearby restaurants or anything to do. So again, you are going downtown.
- Very understaffed. You will see the same 2 or 3 faces at the front desk no matter how long your stay is. They work hard but they're always swamped. We couldn't get an extra pillow or maid service for the life of us.... (the maids only come once a week) and if you're calling for a shuttle pickup during the evening, it may take a while for someone to answer.

Overall, we were happy with our stay here. Transportation to and from downtown was definitely a bit of a pain, but it could have been worse and we paid a lot less than people who got ripped off at one of the downtown hotels.

I have to agree with Brian - I love this hotel chain and when I am in an area I always look at Candlewood first.  The main reasons why are:

They have suites and are very nice.  They offer a free soda and newspaper for guests.  Have a great exercise room and laundry facilities as well and they have a cupboard where you can get snacks, drinks, entrees and ice cream etc.

The main reason I like this hotel is that is less than 5 minutes away from the airport and they have a shuttle that will take you to the airport.  They have a park and flight rate as well if needed and it is only $5 a day much cheaper than at the airport.

There are not many places to go unless you are willing to drive about 10-15 minutes.  It is a bad area and unless you are a fan of adult bookstores then you might want to choose another location.

This Candlewood suites is comfortable and just like any other Candlewood.

They have wired Internet in each room, and a business center which has a single spyware infected XP computer, a printer, and copier.

The location is close to the airport, but the neighborhood isn't very attractive.  There aren't any places to eat, and it's mostly a shipping district, and a very ugly one at that.
