Decent stay, but may not be what you seek as a business traveler. No frills but good, basic lodging for short stays.
The Good: The price was low (under $100/ nite) and access to downtown AA and the freeway make it convenient. Room has new furnishings in good condition, and a small kitchen, microwave and fridge. Free popcorn and coffee for your munchies, and one complimentary soda coupon when you arrive.
The Bad: Sound insulation is not good, and if your room is on the middle floor, you'll hear elephants above and noise from below in addition to arrivals and departures in the parking lot. No business center to print out your boarding pass, and no cooked breakfast available. Food choices at the Candlewood is limited to the convenience items in the pantry or from the nearby shopping malls.
Not really Ugly-but annoying: No luggage rack, and the A/C unit was so loud that you can't hear the TV when it kicks in. Internet was free, but not very speedy. There is no daily housekeeping service. If you want new towels you can exchange for new ones at the front desk, or wait until the weekly change.
When I went back home for my high school reunion I stayed at Candlewood Suites as it was right off of 94, and more importantly, next to Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor. Not to mention that it was minutes from U of M. Back in the 1970's I spent countless hours in high school buying clothing, makeup and skincare at this mall, particularly at the late-great JL Hudson (I was weaned in that place in Downtown Detroit).
My stay at CS was great and I was completely satisfied with the room (one bedroom not the studio), staff, facilities, etc. In 2010 I'll probably stay there again for the next reunion. Also, it was super reasonable!
