This is a roadside attraction straight out of the 1940's ..... I absolutely loved it. The gravity house will make you dizzy. It was so damn cheesy but yet so damn fun.
I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but if you are driving along Hwy 101 and pass by, you would be missing something interesting if you don't stop by and check it out. -

Finally, after years of driving past it, on our last trip up north we dropped into Confusion Hill for a short break and to assuage our curiosity.
Walking in the door we received really friendly upbeat service and after checking out the nick knacks (wooden boxes, dream catchers, gold dipped pine cone earrings) we were invited (for a small fee) to check out the Confusion part of Confusion Hill.
While I must say that five dollars isn't much in the scheme of things and its an excuse to stretch your legs and "hike" a tad bit, Confusion Hill is nothing to write home about. It's fun to say you saw it once, but not really worth the stop if you have somewhere to be.
The highlight of our stop was the printing block in back. For something like a dollar you can type any saying or words you want on a silver dollar sized silver disc. While ours came out slightly misspelled it was a great one of a kind memento which we shared some laughs over.
It was the best part of the entire trip! -

Fun little playground.
Gravity House was pricey. ($5/adult, but no employee there to check my hand stamp...)
Still worth visiting. -

DISCLAIMER: I am high-maintenance and love my hairspray.
On our way to a wedding up in Eureka, my boyfriend, his roommate and I decided to take a detour and check out Confusion Hill. Having gone to Mystery Spot, I thought it would be a cool place to take a break at.
I was so very wrong...Upon arriving, we enjoyed taking pictures through the cutout cardboard displays and had fun trying to figure out why one of us appeared taller than the other. The cost to go in to the actual house was $5 per person, which seemed reasonable. However, for what we got I was disappointed it was not free.
This was a mirror image of Mystery House and I was let down that there was no exciting tour guide to pump us up on our short journey through the house. While exploring, I began to feel tingles on my skin. Being that it was summer, I thought it was just too hot and I was being sensitive.
But no...that was not the problem. Once we stepped in to the light I had welts and hives all over my arms and legs. I had obviously been attacked by a swarm of bugs. My immediate hatred began to erupt for Confusion Hill and I was enraged with Mother Nature. Irrational? Yes.
In all honesty (minus the irrational anger towards Mother Nature), Mystery Spot is more fun and I don't think Confusion Hill was worth making a stop at since I had fallen victim to bug bites. -

We stopped off on our way back from camping at Humboldt Redwoods State Park and it kinda met our expectations, but they need to do at least two things to make it a three to five star stop.
The train conductor may have been having a bad day, but he made for a truly miserable train ride. He may have THOUGHT he was funny, but he wasn't. He called his five kids "stupid" about four times, he used the word "stupid" about 100 times. Our kids (8G, 6B) were mortified. He also stretched out what should have been a 25 minute train ride to about an hour. The kids had to pee, the conductor kept calling everything "stupid," and there really wasn't any material for an hour ride- it should be a 25-minute ride. So, he needs a firm talkin' to and retraining.
Then, there's the restrooms and kitchen. Although in separate buildings, they both need a facelift. We used the restrooms out of necessity, and avoided the food. I know business is tough these days, but the standards of society are high and they are nowhere close.
The gift shop with all kinds of fun and kooky stuff is cool. The location and feel of the place is awesome, straight out of a post WWII glamourous and fun family vacation in the motor coach. The "Gravity Hill" thing is a perfect way to get kids to stretch their legs and cheer up on a long drive.
I hope they somehow clean up a bit, this is a part of America that is so precious and fun. I will stop in again, but not for the food or train ride. -

The Chipalopes tale
Once upon a time when the Redwood forest here was still very young, buffalo still roamed while the deer, and antelope played. Something very confusing happened at Confusion Hill! Some might call it magic, others might call it a miracle, and still others would consider it a possible alien experiment with life forms here on Earth. No one knows if such a thing had ever happened before or since because there was no one around at the time to witness it!!
Happened to pass by on the way to Eureka, the real NorCal. Decided to give it a whirl and check out the hill... neat, they have a place just like this at Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA. The redwoods are beautiful and its sad to see a lot of them... most of them have been cut down. Yes MOST OF THEM ARE CUT DOWN, but they purposely leave the ones near the highway uncut so people are not aware of what is happening. From an aerial view it would seem like a nuclear bomb decimated the redwood forests. -

I had never stopped here even though I've driven by countless times. We dropped in on this last trip and I thoroughly enjoyed it. All we did was hang out it in there cute slightly run down playground and enjoy the shade and and kitschy surroundings. We haven't tried the train yet but plan on it next time. If nothing else it's a good place to stop and let a kid run around in a fenced from the roadway playground. A gem for parents on a long drive.

This is another roadside attraction, but NOT just a gift shop like many. I went here when I was 15 and it hasn't changed a bit in well....well...let's just say more than 15 years....and leave it at that!
My kids LOVED the Gravity House. It was $4.00 for each kid and $5 for adults, but it was fun. They spent 20 minutes in it and had a blast hanging sideways.
It is worth the stop if you need to get the kids out of the car. There is a playground there too. -

Honestly, it's kind of stupid and over-priced.

Stopped long enough to stretch our legs, get a few photos of some of the redwood carvings. Did not do the train ride or go to 'confusion hill'. Seemed too pricey to pay close to $40.00 for all of us...we can easily find the state of confusion for free.

Like a blast from the past, an old 50's sci fi B movie, Confusion Hill is a funky side show sort of fun old haunt across the street from the Redwood River Resort on Hiway 101 and has a crooked old house on a hill where due to a distrubed magnetic vector, balls and water run up hill, you lose your sense of level perception and some even get vertigo from the flux field effect, but it's all fun, go see yourself hanging crooked instead of straight down from the ceiling, walking up walls, watching bottles roll backwards up hill, being taller than your short friend and tryng to get our of the gravity chair, so for $ 5 for 20 minues it's all unique fun, very funky like the old Playland in SF and a great wayward trip to the days of wonder, a timeless magical place since 1949! Try and feed the Chipaloes or other critters with the park food inside the house and you will see they will not go in there, as ithey also feel the strange affects. Ceritified by the Vector Anomaly Society as one of the few remaining magnetic marvels in the U.S. Is it a meterorite? Is there a buired UFO under the house? Old Fashioned Fun, no batteries needed!

The gift/junque shop is typical of the 1950's era ones that are up and down this highway, and the miniature train (that looks like it might be fun) was closed the time we were here. But the "World Famous" Gravity House was worth the ten minutes or so it takes to go through, though indeed overpriced. The water and golf balls running uphill and the weird way you look taller/shorter depending on where you stand is especially amusing for the young 'uns. There is also a small set of swings and playground for the kids to amuse themselves among the tall trees.

We went camping across the street for a few days and wanted to check out the place. We had already visited the Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz, so we passed on the Gravity House, but enjoyed the old fashion history throughout the place. We absolutely LOVED the train ride. the engineer was humorous, laid back, and knowledgeable. He was a one man show and worth every penny. As a family we learned a great deal about the redwoods and the effects of "change." To support their business we opted to grab a bite to eat on our way out. What a surprise! Their burgers and fries were GREAT! ...and very reasonably priced. We had one of the best camping vacations ever this week.

I lived in that area most of my life, so going to Confusion Hill happened often, it is a really cute place, espeically for families. They have since added a train ride, but the majority of the place has stayed the same. Took my daughter a few months back & was slightly disappointed. The gravity house & surrounding area seemed unkept, dirty & in some places, in need of repair. We purchased a few items in the gift shop, but wanted some live burl. The prices were extremely high..( Over $15 for a cup-sized piece of burl )..we drove on up the coast to Fort Bragg & were able to find nice larger pieces- 3 for $5. So be leary of the gift shop prices! But the people are friendly & the cost of admission to the Gravity House is still very affordable.
