We loved Camp Richardson in so many ways... the rooms were fine, but it was really the vibe we were grooving on. We were there in the off season. The (skeleton) staff was very helpful and... well.... HUMAN. Our front desk guy took care of us, whatever we needed, and it was more like asking a friend then calling down to a hotel. We sat out in the jacuzzi our first night as the snow came down, which was exactly what we needed. The second night we pulled the couch up to the GIANT fireplace, ordered Chinese, and went through four bottles of wine that we had bought as we nursed our sore muscles. The decor was straight out of the 70s and the Trivial Pursuit game we played referenced West Germany and several other extinct nations. It was great. My one caveat is, it might not be as much fun with more people around. We really liked being (nearly) the only ones there. Breakfast was good too.
Our one complaint was the beds- we could feel the springs, and after a few nights I got a crick in my neck that lasted a week! Ug. Buy some new mattresses and it will be great!

So far the best place that I have camp now that I have a family of 5. I use to be an avid camper with my hubby back in the days. We went on hiatus since it was just too much fuss with 3 small ones. Camp Richardson makes car camping so enjoyable. Facilities are great; hot showers, large sink outside bathrooms to clean dishes. Eagle's nest section provided more privacy and larger sites. Beach, general store, biking paths, hiking paths, etc were all within such a close distance. I give it less than 5 stars only because the weekend we were there, the bathrooms were busy & dirtied by this large group that made it inconvenient for everyone. Great place for groups & families. And make sure to bring bikes & make a trip to the Ice Cream store!

Repeat visits make me appreciate this place more and more. After a few visits to the cabins, I finally tried the lodge itself. Very nice. The rustic-woodsy theme continues (all rough-hewn furniture, wall-to-wall) in the hotel-style rooms. The Great Room, with the giant fireplace, anchors the whole place. The rooms themselves, although small, have renovated bathrooms with roomy showers and good showerheads. The free toiletries are high-quality. The mattress was excellent. Most noticeable--considering the rustic vibe--the place was absolutely spotless. You could practically eat off the carpets. It's a fantastic place to spend a Tahoe weekend, well away from the greasy glitz of the Stateline casino scene.
A highlight is the service. These folks actually appreciate your business, working hard to convince you to stay (if the few online rooms sell out, be sure to call them directly for reservations) and working hard to make sure you enjoy your visit.
It's still my go-to resource for Tahoe lodging.

Yeah, I'm not really into the South Lake scene. I like the mountains, I like the scenery, I know the… Read more »
Camped here a couple of years ago. Very nice little campground. Its close to some stores and most importantly the BEACH. Called Pope Beach. Nice and shady there, you can relax and swim. Also for you campers that need showers there are showers here!
We stayed at their RV campground. Ice cream, latte shop, general store, bike and boat rentals were all walking distance. The beach on Lake Tahoe was a 5-10 minute walk. Nice place.
Didn't camp here, but it had the closest paddleboat rental around, so we stopped by. First of all, we waited in a long line in the office only to find out that the paddleboat rental was around the corner (HOW ABOUT SIGNS...ANYONE?). Then we got greeted by a sign reading TIPS GREATLY APPRECIATED in front of a bored teen girl who: 1) has obviously never heard of "customer service" (S-M-I-L-E), 2) forgot to mention that we could only paddle around the roped off SWIMMING AREA(?) (we were planning on a long shoreline exploration), 3) didn't even tell us about the life vests (yes, that's my 7-YEAR-OLD son). Anyway we were so bored paddling around the swimming area with all the swimmers, that we only stayed out about half of the hour that we paid for. And, no the bored teen never got her tip.
NOT RECOMMENDED.
I was really excited to come camping here as I had never gone to Tahoe before. Because this was my first time visiting Tahoe, I was so weired out by the fact that we were there to go camping, but there were restaurants, casinos and stores only 5 minutes away!! Well, that's not the campsite's fault. I stayed confused for the rest of the trip because I couldn't get over that facts like we checked into a HOTEL for our campsite, we went to a casino for our first dinner after arriving, and my friend forgot to bring her lotion, so we stopped by a store to go pick it up. Camping, right? I couldn't get over it.
Facilities were fair, with running water and hot showers. They had bear boxes (food storage lockers) we could use to keep food out of our cars and tents. Tall trees provided good shade, and the campsites were decent in size.
Tahoe was beautiful. I had a great time on the water. The only reasons why I wouldn't give this place 5 stars is because the amenities were only so-so...

Historic cabins right on the shore of Lake Tahoe, minutes from Heavenly Valley (home of the $379 annual ski pass) (what a deal). The aesthetics are mildly 1950's but in a good way. I find the cabins to be aesthetically pleasing. It has a restaurant (let's just say it's not San Francisco), but the cabins have kitchens (I like to cook after skiing), and if you like the post-skiing moonlight cross-country skiing avec cocoa and schnapps (what's not to like about that), this is a great place. It's not exactly a bargain. But it's nice.

Gorgeous place to stop, walk around, hike, walk along the beach.
Lots of things to do here. Bicycle rentals, boats to charter. The beach is beautiful and if it had been any warmer I would've gone swimming.
Very romantic place to be taken.
Camp Richardson was our one and only stop while boating on Lake Tahoe. It's on the southwest side of the lake. From the water, we could see the shore was pretty crowded...a couple hundred people relaxing on the beach or hanging out on the patio of the Beacon Bar & Grill. The crew at our boat rental said people at any of the places we decided to dock would help us park the boat, but that didn't happen here. It took us at least a half hour to park our big pontoon since it took a while to find a space big enough. Boat docking was free for 2 hours.
The beach was very lively with a live band at the restaurant, locals drinking on the patio, and families playing at the beach. We opted not to drink any alcohol from the restaurant even though we had brought our ID's just in case. It seems the majority of the people had driven to the site instead of boating in. We brought our own small grill and coolers and bbq'ed at a picnic table near the cabins. It was very beautiful and relaxing...we could've stayed there all day. There was actually a small wedding reception right by our bbq site and I saw another wedding party boarding a sailboat on the dock.
Personally, I would've preferred a more quiet area to dock, but this was a great little resting spot. Who knew there were sandy, blue-watered beaches on the Lake Tahoe shore?

This is for day use of KIVA BEACH within the Camp Richardson Resort area. Beautiful, sandy beach with spectacular views, clean, and as is always important to me, the dog could join us! Tahoe beaches are generally closed entirely to dogs. Other beaches that allow dogs are simply boulder strewn dirt areas that even my waterdog doesn't care for. But Kiva is great - Tahoe at its best (in the summer).

This really is a great place to hang out on the lake. I've spend many an afternoon hiking from Camp Rich, through the Tallac Historical Estates and back again. While I find Tahoe to be a bit too hot and dusty during the summer, spending time here during the fall and spring is an absolute pleasure.
A great place to hang out at the lake. Live bands play here in the summer months. Adults can hang out on the patio at The Beacon and listen to music while the kids can play in the sand and water only a few feet away. One of my favorite bands Lavish Green is booked here a few times this summer. Would love to camp or rent one of their old school cabins sometime!

We spent a half day here snowshoeing along the lake. The staff was great, very helpful and gave lots of tips. Great fun for the whole family. We plan to come back and stay the night some time.
Last night when I asked Matt what he thought of Camp Richardson, to help get me started on my review of our 3 night stay there all he said was, right, um well, it was what it was, wasn't it? Hmmm... Thanks Matt. But I suppose in hindsight it was just that. (This is by the way just a review on their camping accomodations). No bells or whistles, everything you needed, nothing you didn't: bathrooms close by, free hot showers, water spickets to do your dishes, a general store close enough to buy firewood and supplies, within walking distance from lake tahoe. But there was something about it that just didn't do it for me. The campsites themselves are practically piled on top of one another, and highway 89 is right there and the area is just very sparsely wooded... and I have to say, unless it's a last resort situation I wont be going back... If you're looking at getting a slice of wilderness, and having a bit more space between you and the next tent try one of the national or state run parks.
