I feel like Camouflage is the sexy grandaddy of all the other Chelsea boutiques along the strip.  Stylish, sophisticated, and a little out of your league, it's what all these stores aspire to be someday (especially Universal Gear, as Jeremy pointed out - quick tip, UG: get some taste!).

I love the outerwear selection here - things like gorgeous Etro topcoats and delicious cashmere lined leather driving gloves always seem to catch my eye when I come in.  Great selection of bags too.  The owners are your typical 40-something, well heeled, gay gentlemen.  They know their stuff, though, and are always on the understated side of the trends of the season.  Should I see a rise in my stock (ahem, Yelp), I'll be purchasing stuff from here one day.

So sometimes I cavort around Chelsea to check out the shops, and to my surprise, one shop that I actually never got the chance to stop by was Camouflage. I've heard things about it, yet never got the chance to actually stop by. Until yesterdayyyyyyyyyyy... Its a pretty interesting store. Apparently theres 2 of them next to each other? I went to the one with the older gentleman and the more... I guess formal labels and formal things? I mean it was a mixture. There were ties, bags, lots and lots of suit jackets and blazers, and also really nice sweaters. It wasn't that bad. Grabbed a business card and skidoodled out the door. They did have that Filson bag that I was previous interested in buying which I saw on the Barney's website. I changed my mind right away when I touched it. Definitely not for me. They did have some wonderful sweaters though including this MJ Collection sweater. Now, I hate Marc Jacobs, but that sweater was pretty nifty. The other thing that caught my eye were the Etro accessories *drool*. Its worth stopping by  to browse.

A bit pricey, but generally a well-edited selection of chic menswear for the Chelsea gay who prefers something a bit subtler than the tighter, more flesh-baring wares of Universal Gear across the street.

The selection varies from season to season, but a typical lineup might include Etro, Pringle, John Smedley, Helmut Lang, and Marc Jacobs, along with some less-established brands.
