Disclosure: I was not Camilla's (regular or irregular) client. I did not have a big wedding party either.
Camilla was recommended by a make-up artist Julie Dy that I contacted (and was unfortunately booked). I changed a couple of emails with Camilla and scheduled a trial, or should I say THE trial: my first and last hairdo trial. I loved it so much I knew I would not find any better.
Camilla is an excellent hair stylish and colorist - in between the trial and the wedding, I also had some highlights done that made my hairdo look even better - but besides being a talented professional she is also very calm, patient, relaxed, funny and sweet.. This resulted on a very enjoyable and zen day off, so I could not be any happier.
Thank you, Camilla! -

researched on Yelp for a person/salon to do an up do for a special occasion. I needed my hair done for a holiday party and booked an appointment with Camilla Betteridge. Everything was simple. Booked online, confirmed online and even shared a picture of what I wanted as well. I showed up and within an hour my hair was everything that I had hoped for and more. We played around with some styles and ended up liking what she had done more than my picture. She was a delight. Very personable and very friendly. The shop is very cute and the other stylist there also does make up. Up do is $75 which was not bad for what she did. Highly recommend her for an occasion.

Camilla is the best! I found her on yelp for my wedding in November 2010. Met her a month prior for the trial, went back 2 weeks later (2 weeks before the wedding) for color and highlighting (I had never had highlighting done, but trusted her immediately) and have been with her ever since. She came to our location for the wedding and did a great job on my hair, my 65 yr old mother and 10 yr old niece. She was so great with everyone - young and old. And I have been her regular customer since. I just relocated out of state and am not happy about having to find someone else. If you live in San Fran, she really is great.

I decided last minute that I wanted a nice updo for my event in the evening. I whipped out my iPhone, pressed my Yelp app, and up popped Camilla. She told me she just had a cancellation and to come on in.
Upon arriving, the ladies asked if I wanted anything to drink. I showed her my dress and wasn't exactly sure of what I wanted. She gave me some awesome suggestions. We decided to call it "The Modified Snooki."
This woman is truly a breathe of fresh air. She really is so nice and considerate. She continually was concerned that she was pulling my hair too tight, or sticking too many bobbi pins in my head. I mean, what hair dresser does that?
I didn't even know what she was doing in the back of my head. When she finished and twirled me around to view it in the mirror, I loved it. Within 40 minutes, I was lookin' pretty fierce for my night.
$75 may be a on the pricier side for an updo, but it was well worth her work and her accommodating and sweet personality. Thank you fellow Yelpers! -

Hiring Camilla to do hair for my wedding day was one of the best decisions I made in terms of vendors. She is excellent at what she does and has a calm "zen" presence and sense of humor that I really appreciated on the big day. She stuck around doing extra touch-ups and making sure we all looked gorgeous in the moments before the ceremony. Everyone was really happy with how their hair turned out (including my mom, who had never had her hair done in an updo before and was pretty nervous). One bridesmaid actually contacted me for Camilla's phone number after the wedding because she decided to start going to her for her regular appointments.
I would recommend Camilla without hesitation. I have to say I'm a little disappointed in some of the reviewers below who gave her a low rating purely due to her being unavailable. Really? You're upset because she gives preference to her best clients? Is it really that surprising that she'd want to be a part of her cleints' big day over those of a total stranger?
Camilla is professional, reliable, cheerful, and talented. Trust the reviews of those who have actually worked with her. ;) -

I recently started going to Camilla at Lavish, just last week. And, all the reviews were right. She's great. The only reason I joined Yelp was so that I could add to her great reviews.
I got a great hair cut, and then went back and added a hot-pink streak in my hair. I've gotten non-stop compliments on both the cut and the color job.
Also, my wedding is coming up in about 7 months, and based on the number of wedding related reviews I found, I initially went to Camilla to test her out to see if I'd trust her with my hair on my wedding day, and without even having done a trial, I can say that yes I trust her. I'm not even entirely sure I want an up-do, but I immediately felt at ease, because Camilla is a great listener, and "gets" what I'm trying to explain.
It's an added bonus that she's super sweet, and really quick getting back to you on email, it's amazing. -

Based on stellar Yelp reviews and photos, I was eager to visit Camilla for my wedding updo trial. What I got was immensely unflattering, tragically unhip, and a growing distrust of Yelpers.
Update: Upon reading this review, Camilla sent me a refund and a sweet note. We clearly weren't the best match, but she's a nice gal. -

Highly recommend Camilla for your wedding updos, she is fantastic and reasonably priced, especially compared to those fancy schmancy wedding salons. I wanted a pin-curl/chignon updo for my wedding banquet. This past Saturday, on literally the rainiest day in over a year, she pulled off a phenomenal job. I wish I used her for my actual wedding ceremony up in Sonoma!
My hair looked amazingly natural and stood up against the rain, wind and hours of dancing. Most of, it didn't look like "crunchy" hair like so many of those updos that you see! She had a great suggestion of putting a pretty gold ribbon in my hair to match my Chinese dress.
Camilla has a wonderful disposition, I would definitely go to her again for any type of wedding/party hair. -

My sister was having a destination wedding San Francisco, and I took it upon myself to find her hair, henna, and nail people. (It was a month before the wedding, and I was frantic to find someone!) I found Camilla through yelp, and after emailing several stylists, chose her based on 1) her prices, 2) her availability, and 3) her positive reviews.
I'm so glad I did! Camilla was *amazing*! She was so accommodating, even though my sister and some of the wedding party was from out of town. She managed to arrange haircuts and trials when my sister was in town and communicated well with us via email and phone. Then I kept getting last minute (as in week before or day of!) requests from bridesmaids or family members... even though it irritated me, Camilla was an absolute doll, and tried to fit everyone in.
I never saw her in the salon, but my sister and the sister of the groom reported back positively. At the hotel on the day of the wedding, she was professional, warm, listened well, and performed exquisitely! She brought Sarah (who was sweet, but honestly, not as talented) with her, and they worked on 1 bride, 6 bridesmaids, and 2 moms together. Camilla seemed to invest herself personally in each person (especially the bride). If anyone was unhappy with her hair, Camilla would put her back in the chair and fix it. All the bridesmaids and moms were very pleased at the end of the day. And we found her quite affordable too!
I probably won't be getting married in San Francisco, but if I did... -

Unless you are Camilla's REGULAR client, forget about booking her for the wedding. After reading reviews and seeing photos about her work on yelp, I contacted her to book the trial session. I was out of the country and booked the trial over email and even called over the phone to confirm the appointment.
On the day of the trial, I drove from Napa and parked in the nearby parking garage 20 minutes before the appointment. When I walked into the salon, Camilla told me that one of her REGULAR clients had booked Camilla for her wedding on the same day as mine and she couldn't do my hair on my wedding day. Camilla told me that she sent me email explaining her decision, but I never received it. Furthermore, she assumed that I got her email and would not show up for this trial session without hearing from me to cancel it and booked other people during my appointment. Can you believe that?
I was looking forward to getting my hair done with Camilla and had a plan to attend a wedding the same day with my updo. She was apologetic and offered to do my hair for free on another day, but why would I want to drive for over an hour, pay bridge tolls and parking to SF to another appointment with someone who is not professional and cancels appointments based on her assumptions.
So unless you are her REGULAR, forget about booking and keeping an appointment with her. -

I LOVE Camilla! She is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. She is so positive, easy to work with, and super talented.
When I met her for a hair trial on Saturday, she spent so much time fiddling with my hair so that we could achieve a look I was comfortable with. Then we played around with my veil and she brought out some fake flowers so we could play around with looks.
She was meticulous and put so much care into the hair style and she really listened to my feelings, which I was really appreciative of. If I told her I was uncomfortable with something, she played around with the hair to see if I would like something better. Even after I booked her, I sent her a few emails about having more volume in my hair, etc. and she was always super sweet and said that we could do anything I wanted! Even a week before the wedding when I thought about having my hair down, she said that she would come earlier on the wedding day so that we could play around with it. How great is that!?
On the day of the wedding, she came early and was very prepared. She did all the bridesmaids hair, my hair, my mom's hair, and my husband's mom's hair. Everyone looked sensational! I especially loved my hair, which looked very Audrey Hepburn-esque and looked very classy with my lacey dress.
I absolutely LOOOVED it! Even when she was doing my hair, I was still on the fence with the appropriate hair style and Camilla being the WONDERFUL and PATIENT person that she is played around with my hair until we decided on THE LOOK. And the hair style was so smooth and sleek and beautiful even though it was day old hair. I was amazed!
If I could give Camilla 10 stars I would because I think that she is 1) very talented 2) a joy to work with 3) patient 4) very flexible 5) very responsible 6) super sweet and kind! Give her a try and I know that you will be very HAPPY! -

I was recommended to Camilla by London Elise. I got a wonderful haircut, at a reasonable price, in a relaxing, homey comfortable atmosphere. Wow! What more could I ask for? ;-)
I can hardly wait to go see her to get my hair colored, especially after reading the rave reviews of her coloring skills. Red hair, here I come! -

If you need someone who is reliable and true to her word, who will be there for you. . . Camilla is NOT your gal!! I haven't had my hair done by Camilla--never had the chance. Basically, she agreed to do my wedding and then she said she didn't know if she could, and she would get back to me. I never heard another word from her.
Here's how the conversation went. (". . ." just means I deleted some non-essential parts)
January 31 (from me): [talking about salon location]. . . I would probably prefer "on location," but is it ok to book you now for August 20 and decide later where we do it?
February 4 (from Camilla): Yes, that all sounds good. . .Let me know when you would like to set up a trial run appointment.
February 7 (from me): Hi, Camilla, thanks for your email. How about a trial run on July 15?. . .
February 12 (from me): Hi, Camilla, I sent this email last week, and I never heard back about a trial run on July 15. Let me know if that sounds ok to you. Thanks!
February 14 (from Camilla): Hi. . .Sorry about the delayed reply. Had family in town this week and got a bit behind on emails.
There is a chance I won't be available on your wedding day so I need to follow up with you in a week when I will know for sure. I hope this is ok for you.
Thanks!
All my Best,
Camilla
It's now April 3, and I have never heard from her again. I didn't hold my breath after a few weeks of no emails from her. I'm sure Camilla found a more lucrative job than my own for that date, and just decided it wasn't worth it to do my wedding (I don't have a big wedding party or anything). Do yourself a favor and take the warnings on yelp seriously. Camilla Betteridge is not professional, and no bride needs that kind of grief before the wedding day. -

I have been seeing Camilla for the past year and absolutely love her. My hair is looking the best it's ever been! My motto was to add more blonde into my life, and not only does she have fantastic skills with color, esp blonde - you fellow blonders out there you know how difficult it can be to find someone who is awesome - but she was able to take my thin hair and make it more voluminous with a fabulous cut. I always leave feeling like a superstar or that I can take on the world!
She is prompt, and prepared, and believes you should feel pampered while you are there. She has great style, and is a true professional. Also, I work as a wedding coordinator, and would very much refer her based on my own personal experiences.
Def make an appt well in advance, don't wait until last minute. -

Camilla has been styling and coloring my hair for years and I can honestly say that every visit has been an awesome experience. She always has just the right vision for my curly mop and I always leave feeling lovely and light.
She's truly a caring and insightful collaborator and that means a lot to me. -

Camilla is sweet, calming, talented, punctual, and reasonably priced. The essentials for a wedding hairstylist. I first met her for my trial updo and she was fun, flexible, and open to my ideas and preferences. The result was a beautiful, yet not too formal do.
On the day of the wedding, she was right on time, appearing at my hotel room at the crack of dawn with all her tools. She was patient and meticulous, and was chipper, even at that early hour. She was extremely sweet, and gave me a beautiful hairstyle.
She does travel to your hotel. Alternatively, she does work out of a salon in the Marina.
I highly recommend her.
Additionally, she recommended a make up artist who was just a doll.
Camilla, thank you for helping me look my best. I got compliments all day from my new hubby! -

Oh Camilla, you are the very best at what you do. You are so gifted and so talented and so fabulous in every way.
Camilla is so creative and truly skilled. Perfection. My hair still looked good the next day. I have never felt so beautiful and sexy in my entire life. She took my vision and nailed it.
If you are fortunate enough to be able to book her, you will not be disappointed, in fact, you will be brought to tears of joy when you see yourself in the wedding photos. She is an artist. Book her NOW!
Thank you Camilla! I love you! -

Where do I begin. Camilla is a miracle worker. I have been wanting to do something different with my hair for awhile and since I like the cut I have, I figured color was the next step. I went to the girl who had been cutting my hair for the past six months and told her what I wanted. She really didn't listen and I left broke and not exactly happy. Fast forward 6-8weeks and I decided I needed to go to someone new. This can be quite a scary task, putting that sort of trust in a stranger. After reading all the great reviews about Camilla I figured I would give it a shot.
All the reviews are correct. She is so meticulous and makes sure to get your hair perfect. I showed her a picture of the highlights/color change I wanted and off she went mixing colors. After a few hours, I left the salon feeling like a whole new woman. She is worth every penny! I will definitely go back!
Thanks a million, Camilla! -

Having great hair instills confidence, and Camilla always gives me the right consultation and hair design for the occasion. She works with me, to give a quality cut and amazing color. I have some coarse and unruly curls, and I trust Camilla with my difficult head of hair!
Whether I want to revamp my style, or walk into an interview with poise, Camilla has wonderful suggestions. Besides being my stylist of choice for cuts, and color, I visit her for an occasional wash & style (for a big night out)! She is also a delightful person.

I was so happy when I found Camilla to do my bridal hair. I wanted someone to travel to my hotel (in SF) to do my hair for my wedding + three bridemaids. (My regular salon would not let their stylists travel!). The trial with Camilla was great - she did my hair a few different ways for my wedding, and worked with my veil, and we decided that an up-do would look best. She is also reasonably priced.
On my wedding day, she was on time and did all four of our hairstyles. She listened to each of us as we explained what we wanted; and needless to say, I loved my hair! Plus, Camilla is very sweet and personable. I definitely recommend her. -

Camilla was my wedding updo guru. She was great working to modify a picture I brought in (Definitely bring pictures of all angles of the hair style if you have something specific in mind). She was super flexible when I needed to change our wedding day appointment time (and I changed it the day before!). Totally awesome.
I loved that she was so zen the morning off (believe me, I needed zen around me). I'm hoping she might be able to work with my normal hair in the future!! -

My sisters and I got our hair done by Camilla for my sister's wedding. We each had a photo of the updo style we wanted. Camilla did exactly what we had asked for and was easy to work with, fun, and sweet to boot. She has great energy and a calm demeanor and was finished with us perfectly on time. She gave her opinions and suggestions without being too pushy. All three of us were very happy with the results and would most definitely see Camilla again. We would highly recommend her.

Camilla did a fantastic job on my wedding hair! I wanted a low curled side bun and Camilla really nailed the look I had in mind. It didn't look too stiff and held up against the wind at Hyde Street Pier. As well as talented, Camilla is super sweet and listens to what you want.

She is great! London Elise (check her out on Yelp), recommended her, and I couldn't be happier. She does an amazing meticulous job. The best part? She is friendly and actually LISTENS to what you say. My peeve in the "service industry" is when people insist they "know best" because they are the "professional." I am so easy going, and I don't find myself to be a difficult client, but I can't stand it when my opinion is completely shunned or ignored. What am I paying for? My happiness or hers? Okay, random diatribe. My point is that Camilla is awesome. So awesome, I am having her do my entire wedding party. Now that is trust and love . . . . :)

My lovely highlights didn't grow here on their own. Camilla is a color genius. I recommend her and to all my friends who want beautiful cuts and gorgeous color in a friendly, relaxed environment. She works in a schmanky Fillmore salon, but I like her stylish North Beach home studio. Getting fabulized by Camilla is like having coffee talk with your best friend and you leave prettier.

From initial contact to final bridal updo, Camilla was professional, pleasant, and very easy going. I would recommend Camilla for anyone who is in need of wedding day hair. We did all of our appointments and planning through email and Camilla was always prompt with her responses. Camilla did my hair, as well as hair for 2 of my bridesmaids. All 3 of us left with exactly what we wanted. Camilla worked off of some bridal magazine pictures that we had brought with us and she was totally open to suggestions. She was so easy to work with. Best of all, the updos lasted the whole night.

Camilla rocks! She is kind, patient and meticulous. I have never had anyone spend so much time working on my hair and I was blown away with the results. When I was blond, she would meticulously add in low lights and high lights to the point that people actually believed I was a natural blond. Now that I am brunette again, she is able to give my hair depth and make sure that it is not just one color. She really knows her stuff and is excellent at matching color to your roots if you are trying to grow out your natural color or just want to do a more low-maintenance color. I have been with her 4 years and there is no other!

Camilla was introduced to me as a Hair-a-Medic, and she IS! I feel like I could ask her to do something totally different to my hair every time I see her (and I have at least three times), and she can do it all! She is a sweet and cool woman who takes good care of her clients Not only did she give me great hair for traveling, she helped heal me of a bad cold with her nurturing ways so I could enjoy my trip in beauty AND good health! And all this without breaking my bank - Yay for Camilla!

Camilla is great. She's easy to work with and really listens to everything you want. I knew exactly what I wanted for my wedding and she turned it into a reality with ease. She was so attentive that on the day of my wedding she remembered all the little fixes I wanted (even though my hair trial was about a month prior) and she even noticed that my hair had grown since the our trial run.

What can I say about Camilla.... Well, I went to her as I couldn't get into the gal I was using for oh... 14 years and well I am glad Camilla is young she will be cutting my hair until I die. Hands down the best and my head isn't easy to deal with. Competent, caring, professional, I unreservedly recommend her to everyone.

If there were more stars available, I'd give them to Camilla! She makes my highlights look perfect everytime, and I always get compliments on them. She is such a sweetie as everyone else here says, and I've known her for many, many years...and she only gets better every year, if that's possible! She's always been an artist, and she's transferred that to making people look beautiful too :)

Camilla is awesome! I also found her through London Elise's website. I was looking for a hairstylist for my wedding and had gotten several other recommendations but none of them would call me back (what is up with that?? didn't they want my business?). So props to Camilla for actually calling me back, but of course beyond that she does beautiful hairstyles. She gave me a haircut when I went it for the practice style, the cut was great, and then she did my hair and 4 other women in the wedding's hair and we all looked amazing, if I do say so myself. And she is such a sweetheart to boot.

This woman KNOWS color! I am always blown away at her work and I am always happy that she listens to me when I want to make a change. She is really good at suggesting other alternatives to my crazy ideas (ok... I'm a bit impulsive in the hair department...I am the frist to admit that) with out making me feel bad OR destroying my hair. And, people think I am a natural blonde! HA! Thanks Camillia!!!!

Camilla is the best! I went through a few hairdressers in SF before I found Camilla and she was just what I was looking for. She listens to what I want and does a great job of making my hair work for me. We spent a couple sessions experimenting with colors and styles before we got to what I have now (see profile shot), and I couldn't be happier with it. I get tons of compliments on my hair, and guys seem to love it. ;-) Camilla is very meticulous, and an amazing colorist. Not only that, but she's really sweet and fun to talk to, so it's a total pleasure going in to see her. Thanks Camilla, you rock!

Camilla totally delivered on my wedding day!
I had a semi-large bridal party that needed their hair done (6 bridesmaids plus my mom and myself) for my wedding, so Camilla brought her co-worker Jade to help for the wedding day. They were both on-time and so organized and so flexible that we actually finished all the prepping a little early! Not to mention, everyone's hair looked absolutely wonderful. They took the time to set everyone's hair before doing the up-dos and got a feeling of what each girl wanted, and then took the time to make sure everyone was happy with the finished product.
My hair turned out slightly different than the trial that I had with Camilla, but it still looked great (it was a low, piecey up-do), and held up for the whole day, despite our ceremony being outside on a windy SF day.
Both Jade and Camilla fit in great with the group and made us all feel very confident in their skills, and made for a fun day of girl prepping. If I could do it all over, I would definitely hire them again! -

I regretfully leave this very negative review. I hired Camilla to do my wedding hair, the wedding party + the mothers and it was a complete disaster. She brought an assistant that was incapable of doing a simple bun. Although we had scheduled 5 hours of work (45 minutes/person), 2 hours into the day, 1 girl's hair was done and it looked horrible, she ended up taking it down. As the morning/afternoon continued, I grew so stressed about running several hours behind, that what should have been a special day of pampering for my closest friends and family, turned into the most stressful afternoon of my life. Camilla gave the assistant no instructions and did not manage the time at all. I confronted her several times about the time situation and she kept assuring me that we were fine. We left 30 min late, rushed and stressed, with several people's hair a mess. Consequently, we were unable to take a few planned photos, which I am very disappointed about. Perhaps worst of all, because we were rushed, we were unable to put the finishing touches on my hair, and it ended up looking poor. This breaks my heart because during the trial, Camilla did a fantastic job and I was so excited about the hairstyle. I am equally heartbroken about the many pictures where my hair looks terrible and the fact that I will never have the experience that I have always dreamed of, which is a happy day before my wedding, spending time with those closes to me.
Our wedding was amazing and everything else worked out perfectly, so I am very thankful about this. Our other vendors were a pleasure to work with. This was the one that I deeply, deeply regret. -
