One of Cambria Shores Inn's Favorite Reviews What's This?
OMG, I "heart" this place. I seriously do. I didn't want to leave!!!!
Want to take a relaxing vacation? I'm talking watch the sunset, lay in bed watching dvds, hang out with your dog, read a while, take a stroll on the beach, listening to the sound of the ocean outside your door ... type of a vacation. Do ya? Then this is the place.
Cambria is a little town that is ideal for some serious R&R. There's Hearst Castle and the little downtown, but really if you don't want to do anything, you won't feel like you're missing out on activities.
I found this place on http://tripadvisor.com. My mom and I had been wanting to take a quick little weekend vacation, so I thought how about we head down to Cambria during the work week and relax? I found this place for $119 a night for 2 queen beds. Sweet, huh? Then again it's early December and it's Monday through Wednesday. It pays to visit this area in the off season as you can really nab some great deals. I think they average $150 a night on off peak season.
We arrived and were greeted by the friendly owners. We checked in and they informed us there would be brownies coming out in an hour, but for now there were some appetizers if we wanted to something to snack on. Yum!
We settled into our oh so comfortable room. Flat screen, nice shower, dvd player, lots of counter space and fireplace!!! Plus we had a view of the ocean outside. Oh and the beds, seriously the plush beds were amazing!!!! They're down comforters and hypoallergenic for those with allergies.
The owners were super helpful with suggestions on places to dine. We enjoyed them all!! I also checked out 2 dvds from their office at no charge so come 6pm, I was in bed watching The Notebook. Hahaha! With the fireplace roaring too!
This place is super doggy friendly so if you want to bring your 4 legged family member, by all means bring them along. I thought it was cute they have a dog house on the property with a big old fashioned claw bathtub if you want to rinse Sparky off. How cool!
The landscaping is beautiful and I love the lawn chairs out in the front. My mom and I went outside to read and we totally fell asleep in the sun. I think my mom read half a page before she started snoozing.
We never had to worry about breakfast as it arrived at 8am via a picnic basket outside our door. It had OJ, apples, bananas, grapes, a muffin, a croissant with ham and cheese ... how cool!!
The only little gripe I had was it took forever to figure out how to use the heater in the room. I wish there were instructions. And also having plates would have been nice to having cups in the room. They give you actual plates so no plastic stuff at this place. They're green friendly.
I was checking out and they asked how my stay was. I said it was so nice and relaxing and I think this was my mom and my new spot to come to yearly. The guy was pleased and asked if I wanted to be on their mailing list. I said it would be great. He also gave me a print out for a discount of $25 on the first night the next time we stayed. Cool beans!!!!!
Thanks guys for making us feel welcomed and spoiled. Kudos to the housekeepers who keep the place clean and who were friendly!! I love that the owners credited them too on the gift certificate ... that's awesome! They wouldn't have a hotel without them to keep it clean!!!!!!
Gracias!!!!!!

Really, really enjoyed staying here, so why only four stars? The components that comprise a B&B specify a Bed & Breakfast. The bed was awesome, the breakfast was not. I have read all of the reviews and was startled as to why everyone is lusting after the complimentary breakfast offered here. Is food in a basket such a novelty to people that they will literally eat and fawn over anything placed in basket? (I only ask because I am brewing a teutonic deuce right now) Minuscule sized muffins & croissants, three sad strawberries and single slice of processed Kraft Singles does not make a breakfast people. What are we, plebeians? The breakfast at the Snug Harbor Inn (Catalina), now that was heaven in a basket, the "B" at Cambria Shores Inn, not so much.
For those who think I am being critical, please note: I am not expecting a breakfast befitting a visiting dignitary but, I have eaten breakfast on this earth for over 35 years and I know that it should fill you up, the single apple and the two bananas were my favorite part..
The rest of the Cambria Shores Inn is great, the renovation...superb, the modern bathroom, the bed, the flat screen etc, all A+. The views are ridiculous, at first I didn't think that we had an ocean view room (#10) but we did. The perforated pull down shades allow you to see the outside world but not vice-versa, this was awesome when it came to the epic sunsets that this location offers, we were relaxing in bed with a sun-kissed vista worth overwriting an old memory or two. Lastly, my girlfriend and I liked the in-house DVD's available at the front desk.
I would definitely recommend this place to friends but first, I would ask them what their definition of breakfast is.
I had high expectations reading the reviews on this Inn and checking out their website.
I was under the impression that this was right on the beach and more secluded. Cambria Shores Inn is actually located across the street from beach access on a fairly busy street with several other Inns.
I also was not aware of how dog friendly this place was. I felt a bit guilty not having a dog and staying there, thus taking up a room from dog owners. Dogs get a welcome basket of goodies and dog biscuits upon arrival. This is not just dog friendly, it's dog encouraging.
Room: (second room from the Inn keepers) Very spacious and clean. No jet tub. Big flat screen TV, 2 queen beds, refrigerator and microwave.
Staff: nice, friendly and helpful
Location: short drive to the shopping / eating areas, short walk to the beach.
Grounds: Clean and well maintained.
Note about Moonstone Beach:
Waves are sneaky and powerful. Not really a swimming beach as it can be very dangerous. Beach is pebbly and you will most likely get tar on your feet and shoes. GooGone or baby oil can take that right off.
When we first drove up to this inn, I was thinking "oh boy, i think i made a mistake". After checking into our room I was wrong. We stayed in room #10 which has a direct view of the ocean from our front door and is also one of their re-modeled rooms. The bed was super comfy and the hubs loved the jetted bathtub. The front desk staff are super friendly. The breakfast baskets waiting outside our door at 8 am were awesome! Also loved that we could rent DVD's from the front desk.
We didn't have a dog with us but the Cambria Shores Inn is a pooch friendly establishment. And it must be pretty popular 'cuz the entire time we were there the inn was completely booked.

We only stayed for one night, as we just needed a quick getaway from Los Angeles. But it was so relaxing, we felt like we had gone for a few days.
What a great little inn. The staff was amazing, everyone was so friendly and helpful. The rooms way nicer than I would have thought. Plasma TV, fireplace, huge bed, great tub and shower, little fridge and microwave. The 5pm appetizers were great and the breakfast basket was great. It wasn't mindblowing, but pretty sweet considering you wake up and there's a basket of fruit and pastries hanging outside your door.
Our dog was also a big fan of the treats and big bed. Can't say enough about this place, I'll be back many many times.

My wife & I spent Valentines Day weekend at this place. Its beautiful. Looks can be deceiving. On the outside, It looks like a classic old skool motel, but on the inside is a whole different story. We got the best room in the entire place (Room 10 with a direct view of the Ocean)... Super clean and comfortable room. I swear, The moment my wife and I laid down from our drive to Cambria from SF, We were knocked out in 2 minutes. The whirlpool tub was nice, Kitchenette, Flat Screen TV with DVD, Fireplace, FREE super fast WIFI. Did I mention the yummy breakfast basket at 8am?! SUPER DUPER AMAZING. The staff was really nice and attentive. They even gave us a 25% discount coupon for our next stay. We plan on returning soon.

This place was wonderfull. Rooms were very nice and modern. I really liked the breakfast basket for us and the pup. The beaches in this area are amazing, especially about 10 miles north.
The staff was extrememly friendly and we have absolutely no complaints. This place brings dog friendly to a new level and since it was our first trip with our dog we couldn't ask for anything more!

Took a road trip to Cambria with the hubby and pupster and stayed at this most accommodating inn...
I'm not sure I understand some other reviewers' comments regarding shabby conditions or having to "rough it"?? We were told when we checked in (and this was last year) that the entire inn had just undergone a major facelift.
I truly felt that no detail was overlooked. Our room was aesthetically appealing, updated and impressive. We had a gorgeous view of the ocean and at around 6pm that first night, just about all the occupants (human and canine alike) walked to the manicured lawn and benches out front to sit and quietly soak in the sunset.
{Aaaaaah}
There are plenty of good eats in town and a couple of options for your pooch to hang out with you as you chow down. Just a hop and a skip from your room is a tidy boardwalk which is a beautiful jaunt no matter the time of day.
I got nothin' but props for Cambria Shores!

Not a 5 star luxury type place... but a 5 stars when referring to service, amenities, extras.
They take dogs. I mean, they really take dogs. When you proceed to check in, there is a wooden almost life size monk holding a basket FULL of dog cookies. They took our dog's picture for their photo album. The hotel lawn is sprawling with it's comfy chairs and lush green grass.
When you initially go to your room, you're given a 'doggy welcome basket' with a place mat for your dog's bowls, cookies, an overlay sheet , a towel (for muddy paws), the latest copy of Fido Friendly, and a list of dog friendly places in the area such as beaches and restaurants.
The lobby had fresh baked cookies EVERY afternoon and snacks before dinner time. And get this, at 8 AM SHARP, a basket full of pastries, fresh fruit and fresh squeezed OJ is delivered to your door. We NEVER went out to breakfast because of this. We didn't have the need to.
This place really pays attention to detail. Every need for humans and dogs. When I saw the 'Renew your spirit' ad, I thought, 'yeah... right'. Well, it's true. We returned home nice and refreshed and relaxed.
The ocean is literally steps away from your door. We slept with our windows open to the sound of the waves crashing.
I highly recommend this place for dog owners. You and your pooch will never want to leave!

We booked a night here based on the reviews. If I could I'd give the inn 4 1/2 stars because almost everything was perfect. The fireplace didn't work and there was no one to call at 10 PM. The inn office closes down in the evening and service isn't available except in case of an emergency and I didn't think the fireplace was an emergency.
The rate was almost $300 which I thought was pretty steep.
I made our reservations over the phone with Patrick. He was so gracious and gave us $25 off b/c it would be our 1st visit to the inn. He also checked us in; gave us great restaurant recommendations (The Sow's Ear) and made killer brownies. He was fantastic!
We had our labrador retriever with us and the inn took excellent care of him (and all the dogs there for that matter). A bountiful basket of biscuits at the front door, poopie bags, and green grass...
Unfortunately, the beach right across the street prohibited dogs. Really ridiculous because the entire area seemed so dog friendly. We saw dogs everywhere!

I live alone with two dogs in a virtually stress-free existence, so the idea of me "having to get away" might seem silly, especially when I bring aforementioned dogs with me. But at least once a year, I do so, if only for a change of scenery.
I spent this weekend in Cambria at the Cambria Shores Inn. Loved it!! It's situated on Moonstone Beach Road, right off of Highway 1. I got there on Friday night, just in time for sunset. I walked the dogs on the boardwalk right across the street, then grabbed a fresh-baked brownie from the lobby, some dog treats for the pups, and a glass of wine from a bottle that I brought with me. I sat on one of their front lawn Adirondack chairs and watched the sunset. Heaven on earth.
Checking in and out was easy, and all the staff I met were warm and friendly. The landscaping is gorgeous. It's almost entirely succulents, but there's such a huge range of plants I've never seen before. I just walked around a lot looking at plants.
They are BEYOND dog-friendly, and since my dogs are my children, I really appreciate that. There's a bowl of dog treats at the front door, and the dogs get a Welcome basket at check-in, with treats, bowls, and cotton bed cover, so they don't mar the bedding when they jump on or sleep on the bed.
I had a beautiful room with a comfortable bed, and 32 inch flat screen TV with DVD player. Each morning, they delivered a delish Continental breakfast in a basket to my door. And there were small details that added to my enjoyment: an in-room coffee maker that actually made good coffee; wine glasses in the room; towels that didn't reek of industrial detergent; a rain showerhead. All little things that make a weekend stay a happy thing.
Surprisingly, even though every room on the site was occupied with people and dogs, it was blissfully silent both nights. Every so often, I'd hear a dog bark, but as far as ambient sounds, that was it.
The price is in line with the area, but it's still a little out of my every day range. But I'm going to save up and go again as soon as I can. I'd give them six stars, if I could!

A lovely vacation spot for my three dogs, boyfriend and me. The room is nice and comfortable. The fireplace is super cool! You can watch it or the flat screen from the comfy king bed. We were there for 2 nights. The Adirondack chairs facing the ocean is a great place to enjoy wine and the sunset. The north lawn is where the dogs do their business, but everyone keeps it clean. I made several middle-of-the-night visits to the lawn for the dogs. The sound and sight of the crashing ocean reflecting the full moon was beautiful. Since you cannot leave the dogs in the room, we stopped at the dog park at the end of Main Street before our forays into wine country. In two days, we were at the dog park 3 times. The breakfast basket really puts this place over the top! The whole town is very dog friendly.

My Pug and I enjoyed our stay here. Only people with dogs stay here. It was fun to look out my window and see the latest arrivals. My Pug received a welcome basket with supplies and treats. Very fun. Perfect location to the sites like Hearst Castle. Cambria is VERY Dog friendly. My Pug was given her own seat at a Mexican Restaurant the hotel recommended. The waitress served her water and treats at the table like a human. This is a motel style/old establishment. The room smelled like dog and the blankets (for me) were a little worn out. Despite the somewhat shabby rooms, my Pug and I would return. It was fun to rough it together.
