We loved our stay at the Cambria Palms! We Googled it and found a few hotels that were much pricier in the ara. We paid $109 for one night.
The hotel buildings themselves are quote old. However, they've undergone an extensive renovation. The exterior is completely redone. It's beautifully painted and they've got gorgeous potted plants in front of the rooms. There's also a very nice garden walkway adjacent to the parking area. Around the back of the hotel is a fire ring (they sell smores kits in the office for a very reasonable price). They also have free beach cruisers that you can use.
After a week of camping we loved the comfy beds! The beds were brand new, as was the bedding and the pillows. The room had new flooring and paint. The television was old, as was the chair in the room. The bathroom hadn't been remodeled yet, but it was clean and efficient. These are the reasons I only gave them four stars. I believe they're planning on renovating the bathroom and replacing the television with a flatscreen.
Lastly, I want to say that the office personnel were professional and very friendly. They have a cute pair of zebra finches in the office that are fun for the kids to watch when you check in--be sure to check out the birdies!
Overall, I do recommend this motel. -

Wow- what a disappointment! I guess I should have looked closer at how many 'filtered' reviews this place has- 31 as I'm writing this review!!
After staying here recently I'm wondering if any of these '5' star reviews are real?
Anyway, I'm a big fan of renovated motels, motorlodges & boutique hotels. So I was pretty excited to stay here. The exterior looks good, but that's all the 'good' there is.
I wouldn't recommend any of the rooms in the patio room building. Besides the thin walls- the corridor for the entry doors creates so much echo noise it's annoying even if you are not trying to sleep.
The room was a half done mess. Especially the bathroom. Completely gross. Peeling painting everywhere and the tub was tiny, old and two colors from the peeling overlay.
The grounds outside the patio area need maintenance. It looked like they stopped taking care of the gardening. There were nice chairs facing the view of the hills, but they were so dirty and covered in bird poop that you couldn't even sit in them.
Best deal in town? Eek! Methinks not.
I wish I had spent a little more and gone somewhere else. -

4.5 stars for this place? Are you kidding me?!
Yelp really let me down on this one.
Stayed here one night recently in a 'patio' room after finding it on yelp and reading the good reviews.
What a let down.... we were SO glad it was only one night.
The positives are... they completely re-did the exterior and landscaping of the place and it looks great.
I can appreciate taking an old run down motor lodge and giving it a cool, hip update. The trouble is it stopped with the exterior, landscaping and cool new logo.
The interior of our room was bad.............. really bad.
The bathroom was probably the grossest, most rundown bathroom I have ever seen any place. Yuck.
The towels were paper thin and super cheap.
The wood floor was cool and the bed seemed newer, but the pillows were completely gross. I looked inside the pillow cover and two of them were completely stained and completely disgusting!! Then I noticed one of the pillowcases had "Lompoc Valley Medical Center" printed on it? WTF?!
Was this someones personal used, stained pillow that they left in the room or was it one from the motel? And if so, why was is so dirty and why the Lompoc Valley Medical Center pillow case?
The whole thing just creeped me out.
I always read people say "the walls are paper thin"...I always think they are just exaggerating......... well, now I'm one of those people. .. THE WALLS ARE PAPER THIN and you will hear every word and sound from the rooms next to you. Especially in the patio rooms!! Holy hell it was horrible. BRING YOUR EARPLUGS!
For us, even the $89 price was not worth it. I would way rather pay $100 more and stay somewhere nicer.
The girl working the front desk was not friendly at all when we checked in. Didn't really even say one word to us.
When we left the next morning, all we could hear was the sounds of kids playing and screaming outside... turns out it was the kids of the housekeepers that were cleaning rooms while their kids played in the parking lot and in and out of the rooms they were cleaning.
This was just a horrible stay. I would not recommend this place unless you are on a tight tight budget and cant afford more. -

A bit mixed.
Pros: The price. And I like the small touches. The fire pit was pretty cool, the free bicycles were awesome, and the rooms were sparse but had a cute, vintage flair to them. They have some fun paintings on the wall - but in our room the art was hanging by one nail in the wall, so I actually took it down to sleep - too paranoid it was going to fall in the middle of the night...
We really liked riding our bikes down the main street into town.
PETS ALLOWED! Huge, huge plus.
Cons: I think what you have to keep in mind is that it really is a motel in every sense, meaning you literally "motor up" to your door. I found it to be loud. If someone is driving back at 2am, you hear it. Our neighbors decided to watch TV at 6am in the morning - and yep, we easily could hear that as well. The walls are just thin. So it's not a good place if you're looking to sleep in, lounge, and take 3 hours getting out of the door. It's not a super relaxing environment. It is what it is - a good buy if you need a place to sleep for a couple of nights.
Bathrooms need a remodel - but I believe I read somewhere that this happening.
Overall, I would recommend this place if you're looking for a good deal. It's not romance - it's cheap and has a quirky/fun flair to it. Certainly fine for 1 or 2 nights. -

After hitting random, unexpected snow on Highway 46, the girlfriend and I needed a legit place to rest and catch a breather after almost spinning out into an oncoming car. Cambria Palms offered the ideal place for this exact occasion at a very reasonable price.
The rooms are quite small and a little bland but the bed makes up for EVERYTHING! They are definitely not kidding about those kings being 5 star quality beds. Probably the most comfy bed I've ever encountered. Walls are a little thin but no biggie considering our neighbors were quiet.
The location of the motel is perfect too, within walking distance of anything on Main Street.
I was going to give Cambria Palms 4 stars originally UNTIL they gained a extra star for supplying complimentary bicycles to their customers. Sooo convenient to ride around downtown and have a good old time! AND the front desk guy was really sincere and helpful. Can't thank you enough for the wine glasses!
Cheers! -

I would give it a 4 or 5 if it weren't for the room. The price, location and service is right, but there are some issues with the rooms.
The Cambria Palms is a nice, renovated motel in a quiet area of a beautiful, quaint town. The owner checked us in after closing and gave us amazing service! He was super friendly and gave me lots of helpful tips about Cambria and the surrounding area. We also loved the free old-school Schwinn bikes that we used to travel around town.
Now the negatives and there is a somewhat big one. This old motel has paper thin walls. Unfortunately, there was a couple staying in the room next to ours and we could clearly hear their tv and what they were saying (I couldn't understand since it wasn't in Engligh, but it was clear). While this isn't an easy problem to solve, it must be addressed. Other negatives: old bathroom, no fridge in room, no complimentary breakfast. -

Visiting Family on the west coast we stayed at this motel, which was a great decision. Walking in we were greeted by the friendly staff who made check in quick and easy which was great, especially after the long trip there from the East Coast.
The rooms were very comfortable and had a retro feel to it, the manager told us there were recent renovations. The gardens are a great place to spend some quality time with yourself or your spouse, the atmosphere was very soothing.
It was close to everything in town so we got to do some shopping and grab lunch and dinner. It was a great day out!
We got a good rate and a great night's sleep. Highly recommended -

My husband and I stayed at this cute place this past summer and it was a lot of fun!
A group of us used the bon fire pit out back and made smores.
I loved the vintage feel to the rooms...fun colors and furniture.
Perfect because its close to the cute downtown and the ocean. -
Review from Sarah D.
I'm giving it 4 stars for value only. As actual motel lodging it would be closer to 2 or 3, honestly. Here's the deal:
It's $50. $50. In Cambria. In town. That right there makes it, as advertised, by far the best deal. But they go further than that - the beds are brand new and fantastic (but 3 pillows on a queen? throw us another pillow, folks!). The Wifi is free and decent, and there's cable TV. The room was spotlessly clean. All those things right there make this a great deal at the price point, period.
But it gets better: apparently some yupster couple bought it or something because this old motor lodge is in the process of being renovated to this super-cool midcentury modern adobe thing. I love it! I love the concept and I think it's awesome. I love the cruiser bikes you can use for free to pedal to dinner, I love the firepit, and I'm really excited about the planned deck and the furniture improvements to all the rooms.
But: this motel still has a big problem, and it's not one a fresh coat of paint or a flat screen TV can fix. The walls, true the 1960s motor lodge style, are thin as hell. The doors are cheap and loud, too. We considered ourselves lucky that we were here when only one other room was rented - because we realized that we could literally hear everything going on outside. In high season, this would be ridiculous. The TV noise alone would be a huge problem.
Heating was also an issue - the heaters have not been replaced since, well, probably when the joint opened, and again, NO INSULATION. We were able to make it through with the heater up full blast and us under the covers, but it was never warm enough to be, well, romantic.
All that aside, most of the lodging in Cambria looked run-down, but most of it cost three times as much. If I am to come back here, I'd stay here again in a heartbeat, but I might bring ear plugs.
Many props to the above and beyond staff as well. I wish I'd gotten the name of the lady who was at the desk when I checked in - because she was awesome. Helpful to the point of "Where did I get this good karma? I'm so confused!"
Basically: don't stay here if you want any sort of luxury. But if you want a good bed with a few perks and can deal with some minor inconveniences at a great price, this is it. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Cambria. -

This place is clean and cheap. Troy was very nice and super helpful. (I've seen a previous entry about an incident with a dog. Just FYI, he has a lovely dog named Lucy, so he knows about Dogs, those people are just crazy I think.)
The reason I gave it a 4 is that it is definitely worth the money, but not as nice as the other places in Cambria. Needs better air/heat, but it's an old building. The bed was very comfortable, but I wish we had a bathtub as well.
You can borrow bikes from them which was very fun and nice for something for my husband and I to do.
I will definitely stay again, and we will be able to come to Cambria more often because of the price! Which makes me a definite happy camper! -

I am giving the CPM 5 stars, because for a motel it's definitely the best you'll find in Cambria.
Now, it's not a 4star luxury resort. It's a Motel! But the best damn motel you'll find anywhere near Cambria. My husband and I decided to try them out for a 1 night stay on the way back from Oxnard to San Fran. We didn't want to shell out a hundred plus bucks for a bed and breakfast, so when we found 'The best deal in town' we had to check it out. Apparently the owners are brand spanking new, and they've gone to great lengths to renovate the entire motel. We were sold.
It was obvious that the motel has been around a long time, as some of the classic fixtures are still in the motel rooms (retro nightstand and tables). But they replaced such things as the probably 50 year old bed, the 50 year old carpet and the 50 year old tile in the shower! For a motel, I've never seen any as clean, simple and spacious as this, all for $69 for a king room!
They've also repainted the interior/exterior, recarpeted the rooms, even put in a little lawn area with a fire pit. After going out to East Cambria for chocolates, we walked back to the fire pit and enjoyed a nice sweet snack next to a warm toasty fire. And we were even able to park our motorcycles right outside our door. Even better, especially when you have to carry in ~20 lbs of saddlebags and a tailbag.
Oh, and what really gives them 5 stars in my book is that they're a nonsmoking motel. I hate going to sleep with the stench of cigarette smoke stamped into the sheets.
We will definitely be putting this motel on our goto list whenever we decide to stop in Cambria overnight. -

My boyfriend and I decided to get out of foggy San Francisco and road trip to the SLO area this past weekend to kick it on the beach and soak up rays. After reading reviews on Yelp for this Motel, we switched gears and decided to stay here. We're so happy we did!
The excellent customer service started when I called to book the room. Troy was extremely helpful in describing the hotel, it's amenities and beaches to visit in Cambria and the surrounding area. Let me start by saying that Cambria is a super cute, low key town filled with gourmet level restaurants, art shops and a beautiful, rugged coastline. The Motel was GREAT. The owners have done a wonderful job updating a hole in the wall Motel into a hip, stylish, affordable Motel. **HUGE props** go to the free rental policy for their stylish old skool Schwinn beach cruisers!
Upon arrival, we checked into our super cute room facing the back patio and pasture beyond, changed into our summer clothes and hopped on the beach cruisers. It was so fun and refreshing to bike to their local beach called Moonstone beach. Later that evening we sat around their outdoor "bonfire" (gas, yet concealed and stylish ) and met other guests staying at the hotel.
The room: Small, but clean, cute and minimal in design, which I highly prefer. We had no issues with noise like other reviews state...perhaps we were lucky not to have neighbors? The bed was the best part of the room...extremely comfortable. You can tell the owners put thought into providing top notch bedding, sheets and comforters. I would rate this Motel a 5, but reduced it to a 4 only because we were not able to access free WiFi.
If I'm ever back in the area, I will be sure to stay here again. I will recommend this Motel to friends as well. Thanks Troy for all your help! We hope to visit your sister hotel in Santa Barbara at some point too. Good times and a great weekend. -

Just got back from a quickie wine tasting trip with a girlfriend. We wanted something low key and not too expensive. I found the Cambria Palms online and the price was right. They advertise "Best Deal in Town" and I'd have to wholeheartedly agree!
The price is cheap, but the establishment is top notch! Very well renovated old style motor lodge with updated decorating, and contemporary design. The front office staff greeted us with warm smiles and detailed nicely the establishments awesome amenities.
My friend and I enjoyed a bottle of wine in the very relaxing gardening sitting area, rode the beach cruisers downtown for dinner (bikes provided free of charge to guests!), then sat by the fire pit for some more relaxing after dinner. I also noted a gas BBQ in the garden area.....I'd bet for guest use also, but I'm not certain.
What a charming and romantic place! I can't wait to take my husband there for a weekend getaway hopefully in the very near future. We frequent this area and the Cambria Palms will be our new go-to motel when in Cambria! -

It is fancy? No. But, it's great if you're looking for an inexpensive, safe and clean place to stay in Cambria. It's less than a 5-minute drive to the main thoroughfare of Cambria or to Moonstone Beach to watch the gorgeous sunset. If you're looking for a spot to have a headboard-banging, baby-making weekend, this probably isn't it. If you're traveling solo or with unassuming friends, this could be your spot. Staff is great. Parking is free and so is wifi.

cute hotel in Cambria. it looks like the first hotel you come to when entering from the south side of town. it's walking distance to shops & restaurants, really convenient. the staff is also very helpful.
the rooms are nice with wood floors, and nice showers. the accommodations are basic, but the beds were super comfortable.
they light a fire in the back of the hotel at night, which is really nice & peaceful. it looks out on a hill, where cows graze. I recommend bringing a bottle opener with you, so you can open your wine & have some by the fire. unfortunately, I didn't have one with me. -

My family and I stayed at the Palms for almost a week. We really enjoyed the room and grounds of the hotel! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed walking downtown to some of the bars, restaurants, and stores. It's a great place if you just want to kick back and relax!

We stayed here overnight as a pit stop on the way to Napa Valley. Outside the hotel looks straight out of the movie VACANCY, but don't fret this hotel is a jewel in this small town. Inside the room we stayed in had two full size beds and one twin size bed, which was lovely because I did not want to share a bed with anyone! The beds were soft and comfortable, pillows warm and plush. The room had plenty space for 5-6 people to sleep comfortably. The bathroom was very clean and had a standalone shower. The prices here are very affordable and the best part is they have a fire pit they light outside every night for people to congregate around. Oh yeah its only 10 minutes from the prettiest beach ever, Moonstone Beach!

Great affordable place to stay in Cambria. Very clean, has a "hipster" feel to it. It's 1970's minus some of the tackiness. Room is fairly small, but offers the basics in a nice package. We are in a patio room in the back with a nice sitting area and a community fire pit. It's not over the top elegant, but nothing in this area really is... but it makes you feel welcome and has bikes you can borrow to head downtown for coffee :) II think the best compliment I can pay this place is we will stay here any time we are in the area.

Review from David R.
Pasadena, CA
Good find. The place seems to be transitioning into something excellent, an upgraded micro resort rather than a cheap motel on the edge of town. Rooms are clean, really clean, barely a whiff of the motel smell. Interiors have new paint, carpet, wallpaper, beds, photos of local things on the wall. Landscaping (many benches, potted bamboo, tables, bbq, stone firepit) is sweet and the clean exterior remodel is an impressive case of making the best of a budget property.
Good people running the place, family-style and apparently living on-site. Loaner townie bikes available for seeing Cambria.
My critiques? Keep the retro thing going, but finish the bathroom remodel. Only the shower stalls are new, and nice, so the ancient budget flooring, sink, counter, and walls doesn't jibe. The cheap stuff never becomes retro, it just gets old. The beds, though fresh, felt short, the "queens" are actually doubles.
