3 reviews for Callie's Pretzel Factory
driving down a random road on our way home from the shooting range, my husband and i passed a sign for pretzels and hit the brake. inside, we realized it was more of a pretzel-popcorn-chocolate-left handed stuff shop. what a combo! (it was probably the only time i've ever wished one of us was left-handed)
we walked out with three soft pretzels (a braid-- delicious, a cinnamon sugar with frosting-- heavenly, and a pretzel pizza-- meh), a bag of kernel-less caramel popcorn (strange but ok), a box of chocolate covered potato chips (something we discovered was delicious but have a pretty hard time finding), a bag of fresh butter popcorn, two homemade sodas (delicious), and little hard pretzels filled with milk chocolate and a m&m
by the way, my husband and i are from NYC, pretty much the home of the soft pretzel. unfortunately, here the only place you can buy them is on the street from a disgusting vendor. they're almost always stale and/or soggy and definitely not sanitary. but we always crave them. so while i feel almost shameful giving a pretzel place outside of NYC five stars, these pretzels were SO much better than the stale soggy crap we can get here. when did middle-of-nowhere PA surpass NYC in soft pretzel production?? ah well...
if i ever happened upon this place again, i would gladly go back. my bulging stomach is hoping this doesn't happen.
Another good tourist stop in the Pocono Mountains.
Now personally, I would much rather stop at their candy factory a little further down the road. But a stop here is fun, especially for the salt lovers.
Callie's is a great family owned shop and they make homemade pretzels here. They usually have a small demo you can watch on making pretzels and a little history lesson. All fun, but the real prize are the pretzels.
Their soft pretzels are fairly good. And I do enjoy their pretzel dogs. I have never been a fan of the pizza pretzels. Everyone else seems to love them though. More for them.
My favorite thing here are the mixed bags of pretzel pieces. BBQ, honey mustard, and spicy ones. Yum. But they sell those over at the candy store too!
They do popcorn too! In a variety of crazy flavors. I love the cinnamon and tutti frutti.
Callie's is a great novelty. That being said, the pretzels are no big deal. They are like every other soft pretzel. The ones behind the counter get nuked in the microwave-so much for that fresh out of the oven taste. Oh, and their candy factory a few miles up is just as mediocre.
