So the New Year is upon us & it's time when the ole L - B - S issue comes to fore (.....again)

Being among the camp of those who "live to eat", I seem to get myself into trouble around every year's end - it's a vicious cycle! But I luuuuuve the time while I'm getting there!!

This year's depravity resolution has got off to a pretty good start & the main reason is California View Cafe coffee

Particularly fond of the Hazelnut & also their Chocolate-Macadamia. Sometimes, I even mix the 2............yup, I'm a wild girl

Super-flavorful; super-strong; ZERO POINTS; no need for sweetener

Compared to my most favorite Martha's Mocha at 4 points, California View Cafe coffee will have to suffice until which time I may indulge again.....please let it be soon!!

I'm livid -

They've upped their coffee prices now...I can't handle it. I'm going to have to stop going altogether.

California View Cafe has been remodeled. The new wooden floors look very nice. California View Cafe is now also charging extra for butter on toast. This, is not so nice (or rational...even the crappiest of restaurants operate under the assumption that butter is included in the cost of toast).

My other issues include:

- the quality of bananas has really been slipping. Please don't sell me brown, bruised bananas. Have some pride in your stock
- the need to repeat my order no less than 5 times. Every. Single. Day. I ask that you either 1. actually listen or 2. write it down

I'm keeping the second star because CVC is conveniently located in my building, is cheap, takes credit card, and most importantly...the food is decent. The service needs serious help though.

The food is decent enough, and the ladies who make the sandwiches are generally very nice. On the other hand, the new owners (?), the ones that ring up your order are extremely rude! How hard is it to smile and say thank you as you are taking my money? I mean, come on...the only reason I come here is for the Bi Bim Bob, and its close proximity to where I work.

It sounds like I'll never know what it was like to have the coveted "Paul" at this place, but I was really impressed with the sandwich I got. I was dying of starvation and very much expecting total crap, but 4 stars for shattering my expectations. Great lunch spot if you work in the area.

I've been working in the downtown area for 12 years and have been in and next to CA View's building  for about 8. I really like the owner Paul and the food is just eh... The reason for the two stars is that I always, always get over charged. I thought I would give them a few more chances to get it right because CA view is so convenient to my location but this morning I went in knowing my coffee was $1.75 and he charged me $2.00.  I kept looking at the price board to make sure I was really being over charged again and yes... he did it again. I don't like to be taken advantage of and I've had to mention the over charging a few times before. I'm sure I'm not the only one who this happens to.  But I think I'm over it this time.  Taking advantage of over charging people $0.25 or ever $1.00 is just not fair especially when most people who go in there in the morning are half asleep.

Update:
I know I can be hard at times when I review places, but hey! That's what Yelp is for... voicing your honest opinion.  I do appreciate when business owners recognize your reviews and reply with sincerity.  The owner of California View contacted me and apologized. I think he is aware of the problem. He's a good guy, I'm glad he cares enough about his customers to reply to my review.

Big jump in prices... hate that I still go here, the food is still decent but pricey compared to how it used to be. Some items are still decently priced but others are over the top.

I go here every morning for breakfast.  A breakfast burrito in a cup.  Their sunrise bagel (tomato, lemon pepper, cream cheese) is awesome too.  I love the fact that they have fresh fruit and even fresh cut veggies with peanut butter as an option.  You can avoid junky lunch food by going here for lunch and they have a ton of breakfast options too.

They have a lot of choice for such a small little cafe.  And the people are really nice.

I've never had them make a mistake in my food.  Minus one star for price on drinks - it is a little pricey, but not far above other stuff in the area.  Not really a place to go out of your way for, but a great option if you work nearby.

I'll throw these guys some love, since I work near there and am in quite often.

The people that work there are very nice, they are chattier with others than with me for some reason... that's fine.  I like the variety of pasta/potato/veggie/whatever salads.  You can always count on them for seasonal fresh fruit.  The cream of broccoli soup is delectable.  I've never had them screw up an order.  And they are speeeeedy!

I do prefer to get sandwiches elsewhere, but I'm spoiled by the variety of sandwiches I can get within a few blocks of work.  I also prefer another nearby salad bar to theirs... more variety.

I docked them 1 star because they microwave their eggs.  I'm microwave phobic (don't ask - seriously) and I can't get a good egg sandwich there.  :(

It isn't fancy or anything, but they are nice people run a good business.  I think they are slightly overpriced but this is the financial district after all.  ;)

When I want a sandwich for lunch - which isn't that often - and I don't want anything fancy - I come to the California View.

Actually I come for one very specific sandwich.  It used to be called the Turkey Delight.  Sadly they changed the name to something less delightful.  I think it is now just called "Turkey and Cranberry".

What sets it apart, is that they actually use meat that was roasted on a turkey.  And not in some factory somewhere, that more resembles  bologna than poultry.

I get it on a toasted whole wheat bun.  Thanks to some poor mechanical planning, the toaster at C.V.C. is a little too small to handle the bun, so it actually comes out nicely charred (instead of just lightly warmed).

Good.  Wholesome.  Satisfying.  Reasonable.  Quick.
Hard to ask for more in a simple sandwich.

But I would never order anything else.

This place is right next door to where I work, so I go here often to grab a bite for breakfast or to make a salad at their salad bar.  CA View Cafe has a variety of snacks (chips, bars, candy, drinks) to choose from as well.  Aside from the basic breakfast items and lunch sandwich options, I really like their fresh fruit cups.  They usually include: mango, strawberry, kiwi, pineapple, grapes.  View also offers some that only have one or two fruit types, in case you are one of those that is on the picker side.  Our department orders breakfast delivery items for a monthly meeting from CA View, and I can say that they continue to be consistent with their service and food.  Overall, the staff is friendly and helpful... Paul is especially nice to chat with.

Their breakfast sandwiches are to die for.  They also make a great burrito and have a vast selection of beverages.  The staff is friendly and its right next door to the office.  Gotta love it!

I really like this place. It's clean, they are nice people and the food's good. I love their turkey sandwich. No gross processed lunch meat there. It's fresh tender turkey. And their macaroni salad was pretty good, though it could've used more mustard and maybe a touch of paprika and white pepper.

First let me just say that my impetus for writing this review is that I just ordered a poppyseed bagel with garlic herb shmear, and they gave me a plain bagel with plain cream cheese with a faint taste of peanut butter (the guy before me ordered a bagel with peanut butter).  It's not a crime at $1.75, but it's annoying nonetheless - and thankfully, I do not have a peanut allergy.

That said, the food is halfway decent, and if it's raining and you work in one of the nearby buildings, you could do worse.  But don't let the variety on the menu fool you: unless you watch them like a hawk while they make your sandwich, it's likely to be a mishmash of whatever they happen to feel like putting on it.

And I don't even want to know how long those plastic-wrapped pastries have been sitting by the cash register for.  Gross.

The people who work there are really nice, though.
