Awesome Chinese Chicken Salad. The best I ever had.
The rest of the dishes are just ok. The area is not situated in the nicest part of downtown so I wouldn't recommend taking a family.
Parking is always a bitch in downtown LA. -

I think overall, this downtown restaurant is average. It's super small with minimal seating and seems to only serve those who live in the immediate area (as I do) or those who work there. The service is slow, but they really do try to be hospitable.
I go there for their salads - they are large and abundant with veggies and "freshness" as in their name. They also have other things (pasta, pizza, some dessert) and also their grilled chicken platters.
It's a super casual place, and if you live nearby, this is a health and cheap place to have lunch.
It has odd work hours due to downtown hours (not open very late into the evening) so lunch time is the only time that I've been there. If you love salads - this is the place to go. But if you are looking for any else, try elsewhere -

Great local place for lunch. Good salads, great combos. Love that grilled chicken and I like to get it with hummus or salad or tabbouleh and all kinds of other sides. It's small, and tight and with all that construction across the street and homeless it can be intense, but that shouldn't sway you away. Food comes fast and efficient.
There hours are a mystery and although for now it's a only a lunch spot, it has been seen open late on ArtWalk. -

THIS PLACE IS CLOSED!!!
I eat here all the time and have had nearly everything on the menu. (I live in nearby)
Salads: Excellent across the board, they alone are worth the price of admission. I just ordered a field mixed greens salad with a nice piece of whitefish over the top, yay! (The salad has beets in it normally, walnuts & beets. Maybe my taste buds aren't evolved enough or something but beets should be as far away from any salad i'm eating as possible, bleh!)
Fish or Chicken Combos give you a decent piece of fish or chicken grilled simply with a choice of two sides. I really enjoy the hummus as it comes with these really tasty fresh bread triangles for dipping, wicked stuff. (Trust me,They are warm, golden deliciousness.)
Pizza: Tasty if uninspired. By the slice is not the way, have them make you a pie. (calzones are a good bet, they barely even mention that they make them but they are darn tasty when they are custom)
Sandwiches are passable, but with so many other great places to get sandwiches around here, I would pass unless you REALLY want a sandwich and you have to eat here.
Drink selection is limited and service is feisty and distracted. Don't plan on a relaxing lunch outside either, 90 percent of the time the sidewalk seating is for a view of a large truck or sweaty movie industry guy. Thanks FilmLA!

California Fresh is THE lunch spot. As the name implies, the menu focuses of fresh and healthy fare - they have a 'build your own meal' special, and I cannot recommend highly enough that you exercise this option. Grilled (or barbecued) mahi mahi or chicken, tilapia, etc. with warm, fresh pita and a choice of several sides (they have this delicious tomato concoction that your fish and pita will get along with juuuust fine... I am literally salivating, just thinking about it.
Mmmmm.
Ahem. Anyway, so, it's less than $10, healthy, fast, scrumptious. OH! And on really hot days, they make this super-refreshing mint lemonade. Worker bees and loft-dwellers, this cafe is a culinary love note to you. -

Love the grilled chicken breast sandwich, and the baguettes are crisp and delicious! Everything they serve is fresh, simple, and tasty. oh, and of course cheap! what more could you ask for?
it's a little bare inside, but hopefully that will change with time. -

I agree with Sophia- this place is OK but the service is slow and the space is cold. Slow service is acceptable if they are cooking a meal up for you, I mean I know that's supposed to be made to order & that it's not frozen. It is small so in that respect its fine since I always get my food to go - but how about placing a bench for customers to relax on while waiting on their to go orders? I ordered the salmon which was overcooked and dry - I think I'll just stick with the salads which I agree are hearty, fresh and tasty. It's solid place to go for a healthy and filling meal, in my opinion, it just needs some finishing touches to make it more enjoyable experience.
