    • Q:

What is the average wait time for a drivers renewal test without an appointment?

      A:

I went on a Wednesday morning and arrived a half hour before the DMV opened. I did not have an appointment. I renewed my license and got a Real ID, and was out the door within about 25 minutes.

They have a great system called "Get In Line" that they offer at some locations, including this one. You log on with your mobile device and select what service you need. The system then gives you a number and lets you know what place in line you are.

When you are almost up in the line, it sends notifications to your device to let you know. The process is very smooth, and an improvement from when it was first implemented.

It does not allow you to avoid some of the customer characters at the DMV, but it will allow you to spend less time waiting inside with them, which is positive in my book.

I will continue to come here with the "Get In Line" App.

hate this place. Takes forever to get a number 1st, then takes forever to get called. The people I had, same girl 2xs wasn't the nicest. Just a shitty experience all together.

OMG...this location is the best! Mora & Jessica @ the front desk are the best ever. They got us up & through the process in such a short time & with a smile on their faces! Great customer service ladies, made a dreaded visit to DMV painless.

Recently got my drivers license changed to a real ID. The process was simple because of 2 reasons, #1 I made a reservation, #2 I submitted the needed Documents for the Real ID ahead of time and had them pre-approved.

I hear a lot of people have trouble with having the correct documents for Real ID. Here are my tips, when you apply for the real ID don't put your full name, with middle name because your supporting documents have to have the same name on it. If your real id application has your middle name but supporting documents don't have your middle name then it won't be accepted. If you just enter your first and last name on your application and your supporting documents have your middle name its ok.

Before hand you can submit your supporting documents online for APPROVAL. It doesn't mean they are approved once you've sent these in it means someone will look over them and approve or deny them, so don't show up for your appointment thinking that you're good to go. When they are approved you will get an email saying they are APPROVED. APPROVED not SUBMITTED. So now you need to SUBMIT them, Sounds odd right?! I guess it gets sent to a different area or person. You will then receive an email with a bar code saying that your information has been accepted and approved. You still have to bring these documents in when you have your appointment along with this print out of the barcode.

So why bother doing all this ahead of time if you still have to bring the paperwork in? If you don't get it pre approved they have to send the information while you are there and wait for it to be approved. Also what if it is not approved? Then you wasted your time at the DMV and you have to make another appointment.

I made an appointment and got my documents pre-approved and was in and out of the DMV, and easy process.. I even arrived early and they took me because I had an appointment and was out of there by the time my appointment was scheduled for!

      REAL ID TIPS
      1. make an appointment.
      2. only first and last name on real id application
      3. submit your documents online and wait for verification
      4. After verification, SUBMIT them and wait for verification (with bar code)
      5. Go to appointment WITH a hard copy of the items you submitted and the confirmation barcode.

after your documents have been verified, you need to SUBMIT them. When they have been accepted you'll receive verification with barcode.

      Easy to find location.
      Plenty of parking.
Clean and well organized office with seating and uncongested aisleways; unlike the well-known, outdated Normal Street office.
      I found faster appointment scheduling

I arrived about 1:00 p.m. on a Monday for my 1:40 p.m. driver license renewal. 5 min to check-in at front. 10 minute wait to first window. About 7 minutes for an eye exam, details and payment, then I slid over to the no wait photo clerk. 5 minutes taking a photo and out the door before my scheduled appointment time.

      Nice office staff;thank you:)

I found appointments can be six weeks out. I just checked the online scheduler every evening and found this one slot last week.

The employee at window 32 was very rude to me and my grandpa, he's over 80 yo, and you still making him retake his tests for what he already known, it's like you're trying to teach an old dog new trick, except nothing is new here, poor guy hr was so nervous to have to go the bathroom 3 times at every single window stop, to have to take it so many times to qualify himself safety behind the wheel, I personally feel it's redundant and a broken system, as long as your eyesight is clear and you're not mentally challenged, but the fact that you waited over 3 hours here every day for something you can do less than 30 minutes is beyond me, they could have save so much time, but they didn't want to change that.
Oh did I mention at this location, the handbook had in every single languages except Chinese, and when I brought that to their attention at window 32, she said they were trying to get rid of of paper handbook, and they should be all available online; great, still doesn't explain the fact why they have all languages but no Chinese, then they should have getting rid of the entire table, why is it still sitting there, and good luck with the online handbook, because elderly people don't know how to access a computer either, and people with language barrier like my grandpa, he needed my assistance every step of the way, but window 32 kept telling me to leave, like I was some kind of loitering jerk, well I didn't want to be here more than any of you. Make it easier for elders to pass their tests, and hurry the hell up, so I could get out of your hair ;)

Needed to go into the DMV to get my license renewed and saw this location had the best reviews. I had a good experience. The employees were friendly enough and willing to help as long as you were understanding and patient. I waited for a little less than an hour for my number to be called which wasn't too bad. I'd go back to this location...easy to get in and out of and enough parking to accommodate everyone.

Better than the Hillcrest DMV. But front door security (young man) is distracted on his phone and listening to music with headphones and failing to provide instruction and offer help like the older security gentleman does. If he is on break he needs to take it out of sight. Communication between staff and customers is always bad at any San Diego County DMV. Tell the staff member that likes smoke breaks to do it off property and not near the line for the drivers test. It's not pleasant to have cigarette smoke flow into your car while you're waiting to do your drivers test.

My daughter had a behind the wheel test today. We arrived 20mins early. 10 min wait for us. The person testing my daughter was Mr. Chu, he was strict but fair. I can't tell her how nervous I was, my daughter getting this guy, as I read so many bad reviews about him.
Here is a tip, don't make many mistakes! I would recommend him and this DMV anytime.

First positive experience at a DMV - I've always dreaded going to the DMV because it makes me feel like I'm at the unhappiest place on earth but was incredibly pleased to see how organized, efficient, and kind the staff at this location was.

I was able to complete the process of getting a new REAL ID without an appointment in about an hour.

If you need to go the DMV, I'd definitely recommend going to this location.
