Cali Burrito is a vegetarian friendly restaurant, located on the Hamilton Boulevard bypass across from Weis Market.

Portions are generous, especially with the burritos, and the flavor is pure  "California-style" Mexican food.  Fresh vegetables and natural smoke flavoring play predominant roles, as opposed to the traditional salt and spice normally associated with Mexican food by people on the east coast.

Cost is relatively low, and 2 meals plus a drink can be had for less than $20.  You can eat in or take out, but the dining area fills up quickly at lunch, and seats may not be available.  Plan accordingly.

    I highly recommend it!

They definitely use fresh ingredients, but the burritos are watery and bland.  Much like the weekday lunch crowd.

At least there were some fresh homemade (greasy) tortilla chips and some fresh homemade hot (medium) salsa to make up for it.

This place is the Hootie and the Blowfish of Mexican joints.  Is there a Chipotle nearby?  At this point, I no longer care if they're owned by McDonald's.

Growing up in Allentown my entire life and commuting between the great Allentown area and surrounding suburbs I have passed Cali Burrito many times.  Always wondering but never venturing, probably due to it's slightly off location just past all the chaos of Dorney and across from Burger King it seems my early years were definitely missing something and that something was Cali Burrito.

One night recently while home for the Holidays while my sister and I were deciding where our next chow down was to take place I challenged my fam to use the Yelp app to find Allentown's most highly rated place- that none of us have ever been to.  That's when we found Cali Burrito, after all confirming we had all seen it a million times but in fact none of us have been there we got in the car and made the drive over.  My mom was really looking for enchiladas which they did not have, and iced tea which again they only carried the fancy sugary flavors so did not score in her book.

Bummer- they totally scored for mine, their tacos are in a crunchy shell which is then wrapped in cheese and a soft wrap and has some spicy mayo/chipotle type sauce that is deeeelicious.  Kind of like a Cheesey Gordita Crunch (see taco bell menu) but more local/homemade and much fresher and overall tastier.  Chicken quesadilla was nothing to write home about but it was good.  My sister got the steak quesadilla which was filled with goods- peppers, onions, CHEESE, steak etc.  The place is pretty small and was surprisingly packed!  Cute little surf motif and "Cali" decor very appropriate for a burrito joint and not really like anywhere else in the valley.

Cheap, a variety of options not typically on your 'Mexican' menu (i.e. felafel burrito?  I'm intrigued, but I wasn't in the mood that day for Mediterranean.)

I got tacos.  My only gripe (which is a personal thing, and more of a warning in case anyone is as weird as I am) is that the tacos were hard covered by soft shells.  But the cheese was between the two shells...so when I peeled off the soft shell because I don't like soft shells, I lost the cheese.  Sadface.

    (seriously...who doesn't like soft shells?  that's why I'm weird...)

Other than that, they had mango blueberry salsa, which was awesome!  Guacamole was also quite tasty, and any place that has fountain orange soda gets another half a star.

    I'd go again fo 'sho.

This place is really flippin' delish. Fresh, fresh, fresh. Quac is amazing. Burrito portion size is huge and fills you up. I think the prices are decent, the ambiance isn't much. Place is always packed when I go in and the wait times are fine. I think they can churn out the orders so well because everything's fresh and the menu is simple.

Now I want a Cali burrito for dinner!

Good combinations for burritos, fresh ingredients, and homemade salsa make me a big Cali Burrito fan. It's a relaxed atmosphere that's great to grab a quick bite with friends. (They were "closed for spring cleaning" last 4/20. Right, guys, riiiight.) The burritos are big, but not so ginormous that you leave feeling like you can't move for the next 8 hours.

Kind of pricy for what you get, but the food is tasty.  Always crowded so that's usually a good sign.  Several options for vegetarians and omnitarians (like me).  The chipotle sauce is excellent!

I really want to like this place.  I love the ambiance and it is super clean.  The food is fresh and the location is excellent.  But I am a grown man and I don't feel like I should be intimidated by a less than helpful menu combined with an even less helpful staff who look down their noses at me as I ask them how to order.  The food was OK and maybe it wad just what my wife and I ordered, but it actually seemed to border on the sweet side of the taste spectrum.  I will go back to give them another try, I do not think my wife will go with me.

Is Cali Burrito one word or two???  Two, I guess.  I was so excited to see a quick food joint that had tofu and falafel that I went here two days in a row when I was regularly visiting a relative at a nearby hospital.  I am a little less excited after my second visit, because the delicious-sounding lime-cilantro dressing for their excellent taco salad has dairy.  I wish they had an alternative dressing, because they could make a great one.  I just paid the extra $1.50 for guacamole (after the $1.50 for adding the tofu) and added extra salsa (their homemade stuff is great; they had a radish-cucumber one recently).  You can also just get the taco salad in a plastic bowl without the crispy shell, but I could not show such restraint.

Now, about the burritoes -- the day before, I had the falafel burrito, and let me tell ya, their burritos are huge and hard to eat daintily, 3-4" in circumference.  Half filled me up.  The falafel one could use more spice and less rice, but luckily, hot salsa is nearby.

The smoked tofu is locally-sourced and organic, and you can have it added to things, as stated above.  My partner got the curried-tofu-scramble burrito which was excellent and very creative for this geographic region.  I was told the smoked tofu quesadilla could not be made wihout cheese, hmmm, bummer since I make cheeseless quesadillas all the time at home.  But otherwise, they (what seems to be an all-teenaged staff) seem happy to change anything for you without rolling their eyes, and the food comes out amazingly fast.

Extras are free: cabbage, pico de gallo, pickles, cilantro (ask for extra), hot peppers, cheese, lettuce, or crushed tortilla chips.  I'd love to see mushrooms too, since I know they have them back there.  :-)  Their homemade chips are not overly salty, which is nice.  They put out four fresh sauces at a time too: hot salsa, mild salsa, green salsa, and something creative like the radish-cucumber, good enough to eat with a spoon.

They recycle, use green cups of some sort, and are very receptive to BYOB (no glasses though, just cups).  Now what wine goes with a burrito?  I guess beer is the better choice.  The place was filled with what looked to be college students, and any student would be lucky to have a place like this around, cheap and healthy and tasty.  Why oh why do we have to drive so far to get a healthy freaking burrito?

Believe it or not, this is not a chain, but oh how I wish we could have something like this in Reading.  It seems ripe for franchising, though I realize I normally rail against chains and avoid them.  The surf motif with the grass roof look is a bit cute, but if it makes them play more reggae, I can deal.  And if you want to decorate with surfboards, why not get more (there are only two) and hang them everywhere?  The Bob Marley poster is a plus.

They do need to clean up the back area so as to not scare people who drive around the building -- other Yelpers are oh so right about that.  Inside, it's very clean though, and don't be frightened of the long line -- it goes fast.  And you would think they would be open later, to capture more of the college/late night crowd.  Oh well.

If you do not want to read the whole thing......good pricing, good food and awesome homemade salsas. Just not the best i have ever had, that is why no 5 stars. Side note...the girl who works the front is smoking hot,

I have been to Cali about ten times (work down the street). I have had the fish taco's (top 5 i have ever had), smoked tofu burrito (awesome,; who knew tofu was good!), and various build your own burritos

They make their own chips and produce their own salsa. Last time i was there it was blueberry, ginger, melon salsa. It was awesome!

I have never had a bad burrito here, but i will agree with previous posts that something their flavor is not super robust.

On a side note, the girl that usually works the front is super hot.  And has great eyes.  I think they gain a star just because she works there.

Bottom line....good food, good pricing...not sure where you would find a better burrito in the area.

Unique selection of Burritos and Tacos...much more than your average boring options.  However, I hate getting a cold, soggy flour tortilla.  For god sakes, just throw it on the grill for 30 sec each side!!  I dont know what they do since you cant see them make it.

Taste was average at best.  Not much flavor at all, even with A LOT of the hottest salsa they had on it!

This place will be popular because it's in PA, but they wouldn't last in the southwest.

Oh and don't drive behind this establishment, or you will never want to eat there again!!!!  Toxic waste dump!

I struggle with liking this place. On the one hand, they're good burritos. If you want a burrito, this place will do the job nicely.

But the place is called *Cali* Burrito, and child, those ain't Cali burritos. I've spent plenty of time in California taquerias and this place is quite different. I don't want your burrito combos with cutie names--I want steam trays of different meats and beans and ingredients and I want to watch you put together my burrito. I want refried black beans. I know it's fussy, but I want my meat to be called "carne asada" and "pollo asado" not "beef" and "chicken." It's true what the other reviewers say about the unfriendly counter staff. I had an exchange that went like this:

Me: "Do you have agua fresca?"
    Her: "No."

Not even Jarritos? What now? Psst Cali Burrito owners: make agua fresca. It's sugary fruit water and it's delicious and you can make a big profit on it. Strawberry, melon, jamaica, horchata... you can do it! I would totally upgrade you by two stars.

So yes, there are nice salsas served Cali style--take it yourself, as much as you want. And I don't mean to kvetch too much, for the burritos are pretty good.

I'd never thought I'd gush so much about a tofu taco, but weirder things have happened. I know, I know, people go to Cali Burrito for the burritos stuffed with veggies, but the Santa Cruz (aforementioned tofu tacos) is my all time favorite. I don't know if they make the smoked tofu themselves or buy it, but it is done so well it actually tastes like meat. My conspiratorial mind likes to think that it is smoked with bacon but I'm sure it's just my imagination running wild.

My other favorite is the San Diego (fish tacos). They fry the fish right when you order it so it always comes hot and crispy. The downside is that it takes a while for your food to come, so if you're in a hurry, order a burrito. My only complaint is that for nearly $6, I only get two tacos and get hungry soon after, but both the San Diego and Santa Cruz are oh so good!

Most of my friends have tried a variety of the burritos, from the chicken to the veggie, and have enjoyed them all. If you know where to look, there are coupons where you buy-1-get-other-half-off/free.

The salsa bar is pretty extensive and has some funky (in a good way) flavors, although my only complaint is that the 'Hot' salsa isn't as spicy as I'd like it.

Even thought the official hours are listed as M-Sat 11am-8pm, I went there one Friday night and it closed around 9pm. I think as long as there are people around, they will keep serving. So, if you're driving past one night after 8pm and are craving Cali Burrito, it's worth to go in and take a look.

If only they would bring this place to New York.  These are my favorite burritos and fish tacos on the East Coast.

The smoked tofu burrito ("Humboldt") is out of this world, and one of their house specialties for good reason.  I buy two of these whenever I'm passing through to take back with me and enjoy over the next few days.

They smoke their own tofu.  They smoke their own tofu!  God!  The unusual yet simple yet satisfying combination of smoke, cheese, spice and freshness is a perfectly tantric menage upon your tongue.

The fish tacos are perfectly light and crisp and fresh. The topping of cabbage sounds like an odd PA dutch embellishment but really it's quite brilliant, adding a pleasing crunch and flavor.

Their specials are always changing and often pretty inspired.

Most of all, the salsas are super-fresh and the seasonal salsa-of-the-moment is always a great departure from the ordinary.  The flour chips and the tomatillo salsa is just a wonderful combination.

Now- if the things I described above don't sound "authentic", that's because they aren't really so much.  They're more SF Mission District style rather than strictly Mexican or southwestern or whatever.  "Ingredient-driven", you might say.  If it's southwestern food you want, go to the southwest, because you're going to be disappointed anywhere else.  I too would love to have fresh sopapilla with xmas chili, but, oh dios mio, we are in the northeast.  But they have their own thing, and they make it do what it do, and damn well at that.

I can't say enough good things about this place and how lucky those who live near here are to have it around.  Rock on!

I really enjoyed the burrito I ordered.  It was a special (barbecued tofu with cherry/pineapple salsa).  It could have been really great or really awful.  It was really great.  The cherries in the salsa were huge pitted Bing cherries.  The tofu was tender and tasty.  The tortilla was amazingly fresh.

A big thumbs up on the food.  I was pleasantly surprised.

However, I felt the decor was lacking.  The chairs were super uncomfortable and it seemed as if they went out of their way to pare down the atmosphere to some type of surfer minimalist vibe.

Next time I'll take the food take out.

ATTENTION VEGETARIANS.  ATTENTION.  CALI BURRITO HAS SMOKED TOFU TACOS, AND BURRITOS, AND QUESADILLAS.

That is basically all I have to say about that.

Seriously, best meatless taco I have EVER had.  EVER.  I will be eating these on the regular.  If they have nothing else good on the menu, I don't even care, as long as these stay the same!

My husband & I are huge Chipotle freaks.  At least every two months, we trudge out to Bridgewater, NJ, just to get our Chipotle fix.  It's very sad.

So we were excited to hear that we were getting our very own burrito place in the LV...though it sure took us a while to get out that way.

I think this place is pretty good.  I had the Ole Monterey burrito and topped it with some delicious hot salsa - though I think hot is a bit of a misnomer.   It's very flavorful, but it's really a medium salsa to me.  The guac on it was fantastic.  Like most burrito joints, it's just too much food for me.  I ate my fill at lunch, snacked on it a few hours later, and I've still got more to eat.  My husband had the Big Sur burrito and wasn't that impressed.  He said the steak tasted more like roast beef than good ole carne asada.

If you come here expecting Chipotle, I think you'll be disappointed.  I think their meat is lacking a bit of punch.  Though my burrito was good, the chicken was pretty blah.  It really took a load of salsa to make me go from 3 stars to 4 on this place.  But, if you come here with an open mind, I think you might like the place if you like really fresh faux Mexican.

One word - YUM! Glad I made it over here after hearing many wonderful things.

I went here with the work crowd during the day and the place was packed. Got the Chicken Tacos (santa barbara) as it was one of the few things on the menu without beans. Not a fan of beans - I'm weird I know. The tacos were totally delish, with the crunchy taco wrapped in a flour tortilla with guac. Not nearly as messy as the regular only-crunchy version. Chips that came with were yummy too.

    I will definitely be back!

Best burritos and tacos around... tons of great vegetarian options. The Santa Cruz is amazing. I've also had the Cambria, which was much better than the simple ingredients would lead you to believe. The chips seem fresh made (no word on whether they are or not) and they are delicious. How I didn't know this placed existed is beyond me.

Eaten out and in from there, and both times I was thrilled with the service and food. Definitely a must eat.

Awesome Mexican with many vegetarian options. Creative, freshly made cali-mex. Everything is tasty and flavorful. Serve-yourself salsa bar with mild, verde, hot and a special salsa.  My only suggestion is to add sliced Jalapenos to the self-serve Salsa Bar.

There were two Mexican food junkies and two who normally won't eat Mexican in our party -- and thumbs way up from everyone!!   That's a winner!  The interior is clean and casual.  The atmoshpere is fun incorporating a California surf motiff and dishes named after towns throughout the coast -- Carmel, Monterey, Santa Cruz, etc.

We were there for lunch, but the restaurant is BYOB for dinner.  Prices very reasonable for the quality of food. This is a wonderful taste of West Coast mexican on the East Coast in an unlikely corner of Allentown. Whether you live locally or are passing through on one of the major nearby highways, you won't ve disappointed by a trip to Cali Burrito.  The restaurant was started by a young couple and it feels great to patronize a restuarant that is focused on selling good quality food at family-friendly prices.

Wow, Cali Burrito is great!  I was traveling from NJ to Harrisburg across 78 and stopped here completely at random, crossing my fingers because I knew nothing about this place.  What a great surpise!  The Nepenthe Burrito, which was essentially a falafel burrito, was outstanding!  I was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful menu...tofu burritos!  Can't wait to stop back next time I'm travelling through to try the fish taco's.  Really good spot!

Great place. You pick from a long list of burrito (or rice bowl) ingredients and they make them quickly. The smoked tofu is delicious, they have falafel, steak, pork, ground beef, scrambled eggs and more! Chips aren't great but they come with the burritos. Good choice of 4 salsas. There are 12 tables plus a counter and it's clean. Typical prices.

Tried Cali Burrito for the first time last week and I was pretty satisfied. I had the Old Monterrey and asked for it to be light on the guac since I'm not a huge fan and they did it right.

The burritos are a nice size, not wimpy but not obscene. I ate about 3/4 of mine before I threw in the towel. They hold together better than Qdoba's burritos. Chips seemed fresh, the salsa bar was underwhelming.. the hot salsa wasn't hot at all! The orange salsa was interesting.

It's not super amazing but I give it four stars because it's a lot of decent food for a reasonable price. Also the place was freezing cold, made me wish I had a sweatshirt with me.. so a good place to go for lunch if your A/C isn't working!

This is a good local option for a burrito or a taco. It's not burrito nirvana, but it is quite tasty. (You burrito and taco experts out there may find fault with the food.) Overall though, this is a great spot for a quick lunch. You'll be pleased.

The added bonus is that this place is locally owned, non-chain. That always makes up for minor complaints. Don't get me wrong - I like a good Chipotle burrito, but these guys close the gap by being good, local, and fresh.

I usually go for the tacos, specifically the Sonoma (standard beef tacos) with the hot sauce. Not hot, but just the right kind of tingly. Tacos are hard shell wrapped with a soft shell, with some melted cheese to hold things together. The beef has a nice texture to it. I've had the fish tacos, which earn a "meh" in the overall rankings. Burritos are good as well, with a nice array of build-your-own options.

Salsas are also fresh and tasty. The hot isn't melt your face off, but does have that same tingle to it. They also feature a different exotic salsa each week.

Points go to them for having my favorite bottled iced tea, Honest Tea. I'm a sucker for that stuff - a cold bottle of green tea goes nicely with lunch.

I like the story behind this place - it's not a chain.

I'm not a fan of burritos that are full of rice and beans, but the tacos looked good.  Very California-ey, and I was reminded of time in San Diego when I saw the fish taco on the menu.

I was a little thrown by the corn taco shell within a flour tortilla but it totally worked and was tasty!!   Also deliciously perfect green salsa, my fave.  I'll go back.

We have never been disappointed in our food or service from Cali Burrito - we eat here at least once a month.

I'm told one of the owners was previously a chef or possibly a partner at Mango's - a five star establishment down the street.  It shows in the quality of his ingredients - as in, they use the best!  The smoked tofu is amazing, they buy it from a local (allentown) small batch manufacturer and smoke it themselves.

I love the fish tacos - don't let the cabbage scare you.  The pork and chicken are equally wonderful (in whatever form you order them), the beef was good.  They experiment with some pretty funky combinations, I've only worked up the courage to try the falafel burrito - it was ok.

Meals come with a combo of corn and flour tortillas, I'm sure made in house, the flour ones are delicious, I always pick mine out first and then try to steal as many as I can from whoever I'm dining with.  Meals also come with a visit to the salsa bar and the salsa of the week is always yummy and unique.

There are lots of little things they do to make you feel better about your carbon footprint - special containers (made out of sugar I think?), care for recycling, fair trade/organic coffee.  Etc.

Their hours have sometimes surprised us, they aren't always open as late as you might expect.  The menu is on their website, if you call ahead it's even quicker (although they are pretty quick).  Take out or eat in.

If you are from out of town visiting Dorney Park - I highly recommend this over the other dining options available on that strip.  Way better than fast food.

Man, I love this place. I love burritos and tacos and I find myself craving them more often than maybe one person should. I usually eat here about once a week for lunch and find myself fully satisfied every time. The fish tacos are amazing (the shredded cabbage makes them that much better) and I love anything they serve with their smoked tofu in it. I also really dig the fact that nothing really feels greasy and the ingredients are fresh.

While not veggie myself, I try to steer my diet towards not-meat, I really appreciate all of their vegetarian options and it's great for someone who doesn't really feel compelled to eat meat all the time. The grilled veggie burrito is banging and the fresh chips are so tasty. Also, how can you hate any place that has a salsa bar with a rotating specialty salsa? You can't, quite frankly.

We live so close to Cali Burritto that it's become a regular stop for us.  My two favorites are the Santa Cruz (tofu tacos) and their breakfast burrito (served all day).  The food is fresh, which is a huge plus to the flavor.  The line moves fairly quickly and sometimes they run out of seating.  The place is always packed so I think they must be doing pretty well.

Be sure to check out the rotating burrito of the week and salsa of the week.  They can get pretty creative at times.

I've been to Cali Burrito a bunch of times now for lunch. The burritos here are average. However, the fish tacos are great; they are probably the best item on the menu. The burritos that I did try were lacking something. I'd much rather prefer a burrito from Chipotle; they taste much fresher. The chips are enjoyable and the selection of salsas is also a pleasant surprise.

In any case, go for the fish tacos and try out the different salsas with your chips.

LOVE IT. I'm from CA and it makes me homesick. Vegetarian options, delicious creative homemade salsas, really amazing smoked tofu, burrito bowls, loveitloveitloveit.  Even friends of mine who don't like tofu enjoyed the tofu - you should seriously try it.  The burritos aren't Mexican, they're Californian, so if you're expecting authentic Mexican cuisine, this isn't the place to go but it's great for lunch or dinner - half a burrito fills me up and cold leftovers are delicious too.  Yum yum yum!  Plus their menu and hours and all are on their website so I can pull up the PDF and figure out what I'm going to order and call ahead easily :)  It's BYOB so if you ever wanna bring along a few Coronas (or wine, my personal preference), feel free.
