stopped by for brunch today. I highly recommend their Bloody Mary's - it's just the right amount of spice and loaded with green beans and goodies. I had the Johnny Cakes with sausage and eggs. This was my first time having a johnny cake (think corn bread pancake) and I'm a fan - probably like this better than pancakes. We had great service - very friendly and attentive.
Hubby had the Calamity Jane's plate and didn't feel that it was over the top - I out ordered him. It was pretty much eggs with sausage with a small cup of baked beans and a baked(?) tomato. I think he was hoping for something more special with the beans - magic beans? -

Calamity Jane's. Someone please knock this place down of its high horse.
The food is pretty good. The location is cute. The place itself is cozy & open at the same time.
But your service sucks.
We came in for dinner to meet up with my boyfriend's friend and wife. They were running late, so we just hung out for a while. When we came in, we were the only ones in the whole place. We were told that we can sit wherever we'd like, just not at "that" table because they're expecting a 17-top later. We sat at the table in the back corner nearest the hallways to the bar and the restroom. Sometime during dinner, there was this ridiculously cold breeze that came through. (Someone had left a door open.) None of our servers seemed to really give a shit about us. I don't know if it's their normal attitude (I wouldn't put it past them, based on other Yelpers' reviews.) or if they were just preoccupied with the large table... And frankly I don't care. And if you caught that I said servers, good for you. That's right. I think we had every single employee serving us. But it was so apathetic that I can't even try and give them the benefit of the doubt that "at least someone was coming by."
I didn't think much of the planning aspect until now... They should have used the whole back of the dining area for the large group, not just a corner... I think everyone at our table made a remark that we felt like we were being encircled by the large group. I would've been freaking out if I were claustrophobic.
Oh...
And...
The fact that you have a heater that shoots out heat concentrated enough for you to tell people "you probably shouldn't sit at this table, because it gets REALLY hot" is a bit scary. I understand that the building may be old... but there are people that can fix that...
But the fact that you serve Cheetos gives you an extra star. -

I took a friend of mine to my studio down the street. We decided to stop by and have lunch on a Saturday afternoon. it was around 2:30pm. I had been there once before on a Thursday afternoon. One thing for certain is that it is loud in this small place. i don't know if it's the high ceilings or the old bldg or a combination of both.
they were quite busy and the waitress snook us in the far corner. my friend ordered the seafood eggs benedict and i ordered an Angus burger with blue cheese and sauteed onions. we noticed that the glasses of water served were dirty (with odd things floating in them) and the silverware were dirty. i asked the waitress to please replace them, i can tell she was irritated at our request. she snatched the silverware off the table and grabbed the glasses from us. :( yikes!
when our food arrived, i'm not sure if my friend was all that impressed with his eggs benedict (they looked runny to me) but after the water/silverware fiasco, he did NOT want to add another complaint. he ate half of his dish and took the rest home. he probably assumed that they did 'something' to our dishes to retaliate....
my burger was pretty good overall. really filling. i took half of it home.
yes, the waitresses are interesting and efficient... but look out if you want to complain about anything ......i wouldn't go there when they are that busy. maybe during the week days.
this will be the 2nd time i've been to this place.. all in all, i do like it. where else can you get Cheetoes instead of fries or potato chips? -

I love their cowgirl candy cocktail. Delicious. Go on Mondays and get the special sandwich of the day. Grilled ham and cheese. It's awesome. OH, they also offer cheetos as a side. Freakin cheetos! So awesome.

Wow this place was great. Came here for brunch on Saturday and were fortunate to get a chance to try the special, Crab Cake Eggs Benedict, with creamy red pepper sauce. Perfection! Generous crab cake with high-quality crab atop a toasted thick english muffin, layered with a perfectly poached egg and the sauce. The mini whole roasted potatoes were crisp and creamy. My husband got the johnny cake plate with housemade sausage. Uber tasty treat, great with apple butter or syrup. Friendly service, comfortable atmosphere. Will definitely be back. Glad that Hangar Cafe was rude to us so that we ended up here.

I've been waiting a long time to try this georgetown spot. I really enjoy this location because there is plenty of street parking on the nearby streets, I love the old brick industrial buildings and found it to be just as unique inside.
I decided on the Ahi Tuna Salad, because I love my Ahi! The ahi was well prepared and tasted fresh. The salad dressing that comes with this salad had to be sent back because I was not feeling its flavors with this salad. I did however find a nice buttermilk dressing to dress it up.
Waitress, very odd and seemed not to be with it... ADD... or not feeling her job this day. However, the bartender who also came over to greet me was very attentive and seemed to take more interest in customer service by seating me, serving me water, and checking on me while I waited for my friend to arrive.
Overall, a good experience. -

Had I written this review 1, 3 or even 6 months ago, I'd have given them at least 3.5 probably 4 stars. I've eaten dinner there at least once a month for about 8 months. Its a cool but not too hipster-y place. However last night I had one of the worst meals of my life both in terms of service and food. Now I'll never go back.
The waiter took our drink orders - my boyfriend asked for ice tea and I ordered the Malbec which were delivered promptly. About 5 minutes later when I finally got the waiter's attention (only 5 other tables were occupied) he brought sugar. My wine wasn't just room temp but hot. BLECH!!! Not off to a good start.
Pot Roast is Tuesday night's special so we both ordered that. One of the few things I hadn't tried yet. Big Mistake! About 10 minutes later we got small bowls of a hot mess covered in previously frozen peas. The veggies (undecooked carrots, adequate celery and ok potatoes) hid a piece of meat so tough I needed a knife to try to cut it. Clearly they didn't cook the dish nearly long enough. The whole mess was mildly wetted down with something that was described as gravy on the menu but looked like barely cooked tomato paste and tasted slightly burned - that takes talent.
My man was starving so he grimaced and wolfed it down following the theory that you should just get the bad stuff over with as quickly as possible. I tried to make it through at least one piece of meat but it was disgusting. Its not getting better, folks.
When the waiter came to get our plates - mine barely touched - I told him I didn't care for it. He didn't skip a beat, just picked up the plates and left...no apology, didn't ask if I wanted anything else, nothing. Then he brought the bill, dropped it and scooted off. Not only hadn't he apologized for the bad meal but he then charged us for it!
The mark of a great restaurant is not always in how well they do things but also how well they recover from failures...This place will never worry about being great with a chef like that in the kitchen and waiters like this guy out front.
Oh, the piece de resistance is that my bf could barely leave the bathroom this morning for how torn up his stomach was from that dinner. Mine was fine since I so lost my appetite with this Calamity (aptly named) Jane's excursion that I didn't eat dinner. -

Ok, I've eaten at this place 3 times. first time was alright, second time was slow service and "ok" food, and this third time was the absolute worst!
the waiter (hipster young-ish dude with dark glasses) was rude. when we asked about the food he acted as if he didn't have time and huffed and puffed his way through his description. The food took a long time to get to us and when it did it was inedible, my friends ordered jerk chicken which was so overly spiced (which he didn't tell us when he described it) that they couldn't eat it. When we told the waiter he simply said-"need a box?"-seriously, seriously man? After I spoke with him and told him that he was rude, and inhospitable he decided to offer to take it off the menu.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Holy crap! What an awesome surprise! It was late Sunday night, just got off work, I asked my uncle if he'd be down for a bite and drink then we popped in here...
~4.5 means round up! We drove through and noticed this place seemed to be the only joint open down here. I wonder if they (neighbors) all discussed Sunday would be slow but one of them could be open for those that want a late Sunday nite fix? Either way, 'glad they were open!
This is a neat and cool space with original art and a SWEET lookin' stacked helical gear art piece! The background music was hot. Felt like hip hop with a side order of smooth jazz---and just the right volume to hear, yet, not block out conversation. The stained tree-slice tables are awesome.
Both of us had the only 2 burgers and with the kettle chips. They was good and saucy. The waiter dude was efficient, friendly and had fun humor---especially when we talked about the Brewery down the street where you can begin the Tour sober then walk out like--and I quote--"WooOooOooOO" a la squeaky PeeWee Herman voice! LOL.
We tried 3 beer samples of something, something and something (sorry no recall). Rum and Coke was tasty (my "3rd" drink after Hard Cider and Seven & Seven, woot).
And wtfudge, cheetos?
Oh, and the slice of sweet potato pie was nice, if a bit too subtle.

Wow, this is the best brunch I've had in Seattle so far. Service is a bit slow, but it's because they cook the food with magic. And love.
We got the shrimp grits, seafood Benedict, and biscuits and gravy, and everything was spectacular. Bloody Marys were very good too.
The vibe here is very cool. -
Review from Lilly A.
This is a cute little part of Georgetown, but this place was a hot hot mess. The server was a tad overbearing, and after we ordered our food, with a seemingly empty house, it took over an hour to get our food.
I feel that I am pretty patient, the rest of my party was not. We were never told by the server that it may take a while to bring our plates out, and I noticed the few other parties that had arrived after us received their food a lot earlier than we had.
When we finally received our food, my dish was to be expected.. a little hard around the edges for some mac n' cheese, but it was good.
However, the service was just downright awful especially for the price we paid. -

Went here for breakfast since they serve it later than most. Had french toast and OMG it was the BEST breakfast I've ever eaten. We both ate so fast that when she came back to check on us we were done!
We've since been back and gotten the shepherds pie which was delicious! We could have ordered one and split it it!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Hadn't planned on eating here, but I knew of the restaurant and was getting some grooming done around the corner at Wax Sabbath, so the hubby and I tried out their brunch.
First thing, our server was fantastic. I didn't catch her name, but the mountain of dreads on her head are pretty distinctive. She was quick, thorough and still had personality!
The husband had their french toast special, which I sampled and it was good. It was like they took bread from bread pudding and made it into the french toast. I had the breakfast burrito special (which got a big grin from the server as she loved it) and she wasn't kidding. The marinated pork was flavorful, the tomatillo sauce had just a bit of kick, and the eggs, beans and cheese worked well together. I like how they grilled the burrito as well, giving the tortilla a lovely crispiness. I almost ate the whole thing, but being 9 months pregnant meant the hubby had to finish up for me (this is why the husbands gain weight when their wives are preggo).
Husband also had a bloody mary, which he said was great, can't wait to try one myself! -

I wanted to give this place four stars, but the server effed that up. As soon as we walked in to look at the menus (we weren't sure if we all wanted to eat there) this girl walks up to us and asks, "So are you gonna sit down, or just stand there in front of the door?" The place was nearly dead (two 2-tops) and there wasn't anyone behind us. Wtf was with the attitude?
This place has some great cocktails and BOMB macaroni and cheese. Although the Cottage Pie was recommended to us, and we were told it's won an award, it was pretty dang bland. The vegetarians in the group (I wasn't the only one this time!) all voted "no" to having that again. -

Best Burger in Seattle. There, I said it. I've been to Calamity Jane's twice...both times (randomly enough) on a Saturday afternoon. Long after the brunch/lunch crowd so my review has nothing to do with ambience, waiting times, etc.
Just the best burger in Seattle--well-seasoned beef, house-made mustard, toasted (chewy, not hard) ciabatta bun and for fun Cheetos on the side. Served with a lovely glass of Manny's. My only suggestion for improvement is to do something with the pickles...it's easy to make a half-dill slice that would be fantastic on that burger.
I don't mind making the drive to Georgetown for that burger. -
Review from Joshua B.
My boss just took the team out here for a lunch and we had a really good experience. Plenty of variety for all of us (salads, sandwiches, soups), fast service, and we never once had to wait for a refill of any of our drinks. Very impressed.
I had the G-town, which is a shredded beef, mushrooms, onions and cheese sandwich in a kaiser roll. Very flavorful and juicy without being greasy in any way. I also got the soup of the day which was chicken and stars - made in a mildly more adult way than the canned variety we all ate as kids, but still recognizably what I expected.
Prices are comparable to the other options in Georgetown, but this isn't a cheap meal. I didn't get a chance to look at the outdoor dining, but there's tons of seating inside, which is great for a group. I'll definitely be back.Listed in: Georgetown & South Seattle

My first try of tasting shepard's pie was pretty good. I could have just eaten the heaps of mashed cauliflower potatoes with cheese on top forever. I think I will have to remember that the next time.
Hubby ordered the Jane burger with the side of cheetos, just because he could. :)
The service was very friendly and timely...except when we wanted to pay for dinner. Just a little odd as you usually never have to wait for the bill!
Definitely quite a Georgetown treasure and keeps the cool atmosphere of this neighborhood alive. -

Georgetown is a pretty cool place, eh? Hit this establishment toward the end of our stay, but we all liked it. The weather was slammin', so we went out to their outdoor courtyard in the back & ordered a round from our super nice server.
As we chit chatted with her, she filled us in on how they just started showing movies in the courtyard on Saturday nights. So cool! We were hours from darkness, so it wasn't in the cards, but I'd love to come back here and check it out sometime.
Oh, and I loved the art in here. -
Review from Clover A.
I hovered over the stars longer than normally writing this review, because in my not-so-humble opinion, it's not fair to judge a restaurant when they are in the throes trying to serve a once-a-year festival crowd. Still, I have to stick with the 3.
We went in during Artopia and it was busy, not 'had to wait for a table' busy, but still, it was busy. I would imagine that it stayed busy consistantly for the entire event so it was more of a marathon vibe than a rush with the staff. They were friendly, but a bit disjointed as I could never tell who was doing what- are you our waiter? Are you bringing us drinks?
Also, being not of sound body, I had to order something mild, and actually only found something on the kids menu that would work for me, the 'cheesy noodles' ... I was impressed they didn't hassle me when I asked if I could order it from the kid's menu even for an additional charge, and they were fine at menu price. I was less impressed when it arrived, quite a long time later. The noodles were spaghetti noodles, one or two were brown and charred from sticking to the pan, the sauce was very 'velveeta' for me, and the noodles were literally swimming in it. I guess I had expected some noodles, a bit of cheese and what I got was the opposite, some cheese and a bit of noodles.
This long time in delivering the entrees, other than the busyness, was partially due to my husband ordering the shepard's pie, which was, delicious, if a bit heavy on the black pepper for me, for him, perfect. For that, I'm sure, he'll ask to go back soon.
He also had two beers, both were from an amazingly wide selection and were great.
Overall, while I'd absolutely go back and try again, but it's not on the top of my list of 'to do' -
Review from Kris P.
First off, I feel bad that I'm giving CJ's only 3 stars, but I don't have a choice. The waitresses are slow, the service is slow.... and this is when the place is practically empty. I've been to Calamity Jane's several times, and it's usually the same. It seems that unless you really know the staff, they don't much care what you think about their flippant attitude of not caring how slow they can be. I've seen my waitress (at lunch time) sitting at the bar, eating and playing on her laptop. Ummmmm, excuse me... you have customers in here. We don't want you putting food in your mouth and then touching our plates, or cups for refills (when you can manage to get one).
While the food is pretty decent (especially the Shepherd's Pie) the prices are a bit high for what you get in a lot of the servings. Shouldn't a $10 - $12 plate come with something other than just the main dish? I've had food served to me with bone accompanying the order. That was disgusting. I've had food that seemed like they didn't even know how to give it taste. Yet, I've had some really good food.
The atmosphere is nice, at times, but fairly loud. It's not easy to have a conversation with someone sitting next to you, unless you want to yell in the ear.
Monday nights they have bingo, and if that isn't your thing, stay away from this restaurant, because they are packed, and it takes even longer to get what you order.
I want to like Calamity Jane's more than three stars, but I can't because of the crappy things that have happened there. Still, I enjoy going there now and again. -

Thanks to Yelp, Anna and I had lunch here before we headed back to California earlier this week.
Actually, another place we wanted to try (per Yelp, again) was closed due to some equipment malfunctions so we went to the next closest place.
We were greeted by the hostess/server/bartender. For all those roles, she did an excellent job. She was calm and collected, friendly, polite, attentive and very helpful.
We both had burgers and they were cooked just as we ordered them. The food was good enough that I never put my burger down. The place was very clean and the atmosphere was pretty cool.
Thanks, Yelp Seattle -

This is kind of an awesome place. I really like the vibe here. We swung by on a Friday evening after a Costco run. This is a pretty awesome part of town and some of the places down here are total dive bars. I guess, based on the name, I was assuming that Calamity Jane's would be as well. In actuality, it is a super nice & clean spot with tons of lighting and lots of friendly people.
I ordered a crab and shrimp sandwich that sounded great. While we waited, we played some pinball and checked out the local artwork on the walls. Our meals came and mine looked great. Overall, it was a better meal than I expected considering the part of town. It wasn't the greatest thing I've ever eaten but it was satisfying and tasty. Service was good and pretty responsive but I wouldn't try and go here for lunch.
This is probably a 3.5 star kinda place but it's just so relaxing and nice inside that I can't help but bump it up to 4 stars. -

Seafood Benedict it was, and OMGWTFBBQ it was the bomb. I actually demanded to know the recipe of the hollandaise sauce. If you go for brunch, get this. If you go for beers, hit up the back patio and let the next 747 landing over your head tickle your fancy.
Thank goodness this place improved--solid waitstaff and much improved food will have me going back.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I love this restaurant! Not to mention its 5 minutes from my house. The atmosphere is awesome..the waiting staff are cool, laid back, and they are so welcoming. I can't pin point just one food because it is all so delicious. I have to say my favorite though is the catfish sandwich. It is cooked to perfection, and on a toasted roll. I don't know what they put in the batter when they cook it but it's delicious. The baked mac and cheese has a yummy rich twist to it... I LOVE IT best ever! The portabello sandwich is so so so good.. red beans and rice... nuff said! The greens are delicious. These are just a few of the things that I love from here. I also like to see the owner. She comes out and waits tables.. she is friendly, and always welcomes her customers with a big smile! Thank you for such awesome food! I can't wait to try them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ate here on our way to the rock and roll marathon. It wasn't crowded, despite Artopia across the street. The servers were pleasant, efficient, friendly, and kept the beer coming. The ham was smoky, sweet and delicious! My husband swears the grits are the best he has ever had. My friend's corn johnny cakes were delicious. Portions are huge.
The art is weird but interesting. It's also weird the women's bathroom doesn't have a door (although the stalls have doors), so try not to have any "loud" bathroom visits. I'd definitely head back here for breakfast. -

It wasn't long ago that I convinced my friends to go with me to CJs instead of getting fast food.
Fast indeed.
The place was empty during a late lunch hour, yet it took almost 30 minutes for a server to take our order, and another hour before our food came. It was all right - the Mac N Cheese was actually quite good - but not on par with the amount of money spent, and the service would have ruined it even if the food WAS worth the money.
Refills? Requests for condiments? Nope. Server guy was nowhere to be found.
I rarely give a one-star review, but this experience has turned me off completely to Calamity Jane's. We should have gotten fast food. -

I came to a Hideous Happy Hour here and let me tell you it was hideous. OK just kidding it wasn't.
I sat at the bar with my fellow non-hideous happy hours and ordered what she was having the Duwamish something or other which was basically lemonade, blueberry stoli and a pomegranate float; it was delicious and hit the spot. I checked the happy hour menu out and things looked good; pulled pork sliders, gyoza, hot chicken wings and Mozzerepa all for $3.66 each. I passed on all of them and went big, I went for the Mac 'n Cheese, I mean how can I bet the self proclaimed Queen of Mac 'n Cheese if I didn't try it?
The Mac 'n Cheese was served with what was later remained the communal salad it was huge I tell you, unfortunately for me it was laden with cucumbers and the Queen does not like cucumbers so she shared the salad with the table. The Mac 'n Cheese was pretty good it had a few mushrooms, some tomatoes and two fancy green beans mixed in with the bow tie pasta and three cheeses. Like I said it was pretty good, would I order it again, probably not as there are some other items on their menu that I'd like to try too.
Service was great and the bartender was nice and sweat and was able to keep separate tabs for everyone which was great considering the size of hour party.
Two notes of caution when coming here. One if you're a lady and need to use the ladies room the bathroom stalls are a tight fit, one must stand next to toilet to get the door to open and close. Two parking kind of sucks, so start looking early unless you drive a motorcycle than you can just park on the sidewalk apparently. -

Holy. $#!t.
I would never have found this place were it not reserved as an after party location for a puzzle hunt. The organizers of the hunt had reserved it with a limited menu, so I can only speak for what was offered, but my god, even with the questionable reviews others have given, I'll come back here in a heartbeat, no questions asked.
Start with the food - I had the pulled pork sliders (without cheese) that were hot, spicy and made me want to order 10 to go. Others had burger sliders and some cheese-johnnycake concoction that seemed just as tasty. The beers on tap were excellent.
We were seated in the back yard, which was a nice intimate place to laugh and compare notes on the hunt, and share tips and suggestions with the organizers. The waiter was courteous and nimble (we'd arranged chairs and tables how it suited us, and she didn't seem to mind), a little flirty and very patient. The food came out slowly, too slow for my taste, but the quality of the food more than made up for the delay.
If you want quick service, you may want to head elsewhere- this place does seem more laid back and slow. But you'll be missing out on some quality atmosphere and food. -

Had a great Happy Hour dinner here tonight. The decor was cute- local art filled the walls (and check out the afrodesia painting in the ladies room if ya get a chance). The service was fun and attentive.
Food was fantastc- we got the buffalo wings, which were grilled and deelish. Perfectly spicy- not too much but just enough to make the lips burn. The pulled pork sliders were amaza-crazy! SOOOO GOOD! And we also got the gyoza with two dipping sauces- the orange hued spicy one was fantastic- our friend was eating it straight!
Plus, they have our fave- manny's on draft, two of which we weren't charged for. A dinner for 2 and drinks for under $30- it's like a dream come true! Rest assured we'll be back, for more of those sliders, and to try other items as well!Listed in: I'd gladly pay you Tuesday for…, Georgetown-a list in…

I just want to say that I have *technically* made every YL, be it DYL, EYL or GYL, I have "I'm in-ed" for.
Georgetown truck stop closed, so off to Smarty Pants. I've been there before, so I've reviewed it already, no big deal.
However, for this event, my youngest daughter was making her Yelp debut... Having already bowled at dawn with the youngest son, and gotten the oldest son a registered yelper...it was time to tackle girls.
UNFORTUNATELY, the chosen "back up" is NOT a minor friendly "bar with food".
So the youngin' and I played sidewalk Wal-mart greeter as the yelpers started to arrive.
Delilah, Selena and I went down the road to Calamity Jane's, so we could have a YL after all.
Like the decor, some of the drinks sounded, interesting. The menu has a somewhat "out of place" feeling "fanciness" to it.
Selena and I split the Sandwich special of the day: Ham and cheese w/ Tomato bisque soup. Very flavorful.
A few bites of Delilah's mac and cheese. Totally NOT impressed.
They make their own salad dressing there, and it's good.
Swung back by Smarty Pants to drag out a few yelpers to meet the little one, and end a nice day out with Delilah and my lil lady. -

*19th century American frontierswoman renowned for her military skills and expertise on horseback.
*Martha Jane Canary-Burke, better known as Calamity Jane (May 1, 1852-August 1, 1903), was a frontierswoman and professional scout most well-known for her claim of being a close friend of Wild Bill Hickok, but also having gained fame fighting Native Americans.
Having given you a little background on the name of this place, it is my intent to stress that the vibe you get walking in is much like the history in the name: Rugged, slightly rude and rough around the edges.
Don't be fooled by the neat decor, the paintings, or the strategically painted brown ceiling that you stare at and argue with friends whether it be brown or black. They're tricky!! Instead, take in the attitude of the waitresses and the people walking in and out. After moments, it becomes apparent that Calamity Janes has taken the divish-roughesque-"we don't care what you think" angle too far!
The place just seems confused and I don't care how popular it is or how much people think it's cool...it's really not. The food is mediocre and I had a HARD time finding something I wanted to eat off their menu. I am not a picky girl...I LOVE trying new things but there is not a lot of variety here. The menu just seems like it's trying to be super different from everything else and it's annoying. I finally settled with the mac n' cheese, minus the mushrooms and ended up getting it with mushrooms anyway. Frek. We all agreed it seemed to probably have been pre-made and delivered to them. The saving grace of the meal was the salad dressing. They make it all from scratch there which is nice and they actually taste really good!
Calamity Jane was know for her marksmanship. Seeing as how the food here is so limited, I wouldn't say they are doing the girls reputation any justice as their aim seems to be far off point!! -

This place was great! My dad was in town for a night and wanted to meet somewhere that was pretty much halfway between the airport and Capitol Hill. I told him to meet me in Georgetown as I didn't know of any other place that was worth going to south of downtown.
Once we got there, we had no idea where to go. We walked around a bit looking at some menus out front of a few places. We stopped by Calamity Jane's and liked what we saw. We noticed that it was the busiest and looked the most inviting.
The server grabbed us some menus and let us seat ourselves. At first, I thought she might be a bit rough around the edges. Fully tattooed girls seem like they're tough to me. But, I realized she was super nice and she was busy! She was back behind the bar slingin' drinks and back up in the dining room bussing tables and serving guests. She was totally a rockstar!
The food was great. I loved the Johnny Cakes (cornbread griddlecakes with pomegrante-molasses syrup)! The "syrup" was tasty, but it could've been a BIT sweeter for my taste. The burgers were amazing and their BBQ sauce rocks! My dad seemed to really like the ribs, too. The salad was just ok, I didn't like the dressing I chose, but I still ate it all. I thought it was a bit odd that they didn't have french fries and offered cheetos or chips instead. But, overall the food was great and the prices were totally reasonable.
If I happen to find myself in Georgetown, I'll totally come back. It's one of the few places that is more "restaurant" than "bar" down there. -

I've been wanting to go to this place for awhile, since last year when it opened, I drive by it nearly everyday coming home from work. Well, today, after a long wait, I finally went for some lunch with my sister and nephew. Man, it was well worth the wait, this place is delicious. So many great options of what to get, I must have went back and forth between several choices before deciding on the Shepherd's Pie, which was recommended to me by a good friend who frequents the joint.
Now, Shepherd's Pie has never really been a dish I am too keen on, I don't like mixing my side dishes, and essentially, this is the basis of Shepherd's pie, but I figured I'd give it a shot nonetheless. Well, I'm glad I did, the potatoes were creamy and delicious, the meat was succulent, the veggies were fresh and booming with flavor, and everything topped with a gooey cheesy topping, you couldn't ask for a finer meal.
I couldn't keep my fork on my own plate. I found it wandering to my sister's plate, trying out her soup, salad, and corn bread Johnny cakes with pomegranate molasses syrup. Damn, Johnny makes one damn fine cake!
Anyway, I can't wait to come back to try yet another one of their fine meals. Since I work in the area, I can see myself wandering in for lunch now and again, taking an extra long lunch break. Shh, don't tell my boss. -

Normally it is my policy to wait until I've been to a place more than once to write a review, but I feel like waiting to share this spot with my fellow yelpers would be an injustice.
First, the service here was amazing. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar and through talking through the very nice lady, Sarah, who was waiting on us, discovered she was actually the owner. Given there weren't a lot of people in there but she was beyond attentive and more than happy to chat while mixing drinks and doing various other things.
Now, to the food. I don't think I could have found a better happy hour (3-6 PM, M-F) place near my house if I had half of Seattle on one street. There happy hour menu has 4 dishes on it. After some discussion the boyfriend and I decided for the price ($3.66 each) we could order all 4 and give them a whirl:
1) Buffalo wings with blue cheese dressing. I'm not really a wings fan but these were pretty good as far as wings go. The spice was definitely there but was the good kind....you know the kind where you eat it and think it's okay and then 15 seconds later you realize just how hot it was. The portion was pretty good with about 10 wings (or so).
2) Mozzerepa. Johnny cakes with melted fresh mozzarella and basil between them with marinara sauce to dip it in. These were also delicious but quite filling. I ended up finishing about 2 slices out of 4 and taking the other two home.
3) Goyza dumplings. Great...delicious...soy and chili dipping sauces. I don't even know what to say beyond great. Oh I think there were about 6 on the plate which all got eaten.
4) The pulled pork sliders. Now, we ended up ordering two plates of this. The first was in our "let's have it all" round. We devoured them (there were 4 small sandwiches on the plate) and midway through our others decided we needed to order more.
Since it was happy hour and we ended up gorging ourselves on the 4 dishes on the menu, we didn't end up eating anything off the regular menu - though Monday nights is all you can eat spaghetti which was quite tempting.
In the end, I personally think everyone should take a little trip to Georgetown and eat at this place. If nothing else, get the pork sliders, devour them (because you definitely will) and then go home. However, after eating a little piece of deliciousness you'll probably have to sit down and try some other things.
UPDATE:
After going several times (because of my previous addiction to happy hour), I sadly don't think I'll be returning. More than twice a person in my party didn't get served the food they ordered at all. When the waiter was told about the issue, he didn't know what to do. Sadly, we didn't even care at that point because though there were few people in the place at the time, it took us more than half way through the meal to realize the food just wasn't coming and then get the waiter to talk to us.
Also, some of the people who work there can have a bit of the attitude. When asking for something different then how it is on the menu, sometimes you get attitude about why you should have it just the way it is. Also, when being the only people in there we asked for the music (Carpenter's) to be turned down a bit because it's loud and just not our type of music - we just wanted the good food - we were told no.
After going there several times in a span of a month, I realized the place can be a bit boring with no TVs, no form of entertainment, and a sometimes quite crappy selection of music playing. A friend was deeply offended when he asked if they planned on getting a TV or something else for entertainment while waiting for drinks and food during happy hour, and he was told to go to Queen Anne or some other neighborhood because he obviously didn't belong in Georgetown. Sadly, he lives in the neighborhood and there was no need for the rude attitude from the staff.Listed in: It's you, not me. And I don't…

On my boycott list till new ownership...
Happy hour always was ok, cheap good appetizers and cheap beer... Good
Dinner... Disaster!! 1st time... 55minutes in an empty place for a burned catfish sandwich (cause it takes a long time to fry such a "big piece" of fish was the excuse the owner tried to pass off)
Second time after an hour and watching everyone else eat had no food infront of me and no glass that was asked for with my bottled IPA (again empty place)
The mashed potatoes have cauliflower in them and that might be ok once or twice but its really just a very off textural experiance. When asking for just plane taters and other items that were a bit more lactose friendly I was talked down to like a child who should never dare to question the owners own bright idea. (hell lady just wanted to save you money)
Its no wonder every other place in georgetown will be packed and this place have 3-4 people in it.
The one star is for Nicki who bartends usually at night and kicks ass. She will treat you well. Just personally cannot support an owner who has been so rude to myself and other neighborhood friends... Hope she gets a clue soon.
End rant... -

After falling for the neighborhood night life in Georgetown, I thought it might be interesting to check it out in the daylight. This little artsy corner of "the strip" is quaint and friendly. They have the favorites breakfast and lunch classics and are very welcoming to those whom have had already long evenings with a longer than average list of "recovery beverages".
The staff is friendly and the place has true character and the normally industrial Georgetown vibe feels somehow small town... in a good way. -

I love Yelp.
(1) It's an amazingly helpful community
(2) It's a great forum to meet/talk to business owners who legitimately care about their business and their customers.
Sara, the owner of Calamity Jane's, just sent me a quick message letting me know she talked with the bartender about the chairs. Small interactions like this make a difference. Not that the chair thing was going to keep me from going back, but just knowing that the person behind Calamity Jane's genuinely cares makes me want to make a special effort to be sure to go back. Yay.Listed in: Georgetown Crawl - March 2010
