Review from C. F.
Atkinson, NH
Another 5 starts for Cala! I was in last week and she gave me yet another great Deva cut and color - I'm trying to go through the long, tedious grow out process, so I needed my wavy hair shaped without losing length. Not only is the cut very flattering, but my hair is much more manageable, and so much easier to work with than it was previously. I also love watching all the stylists work on other clients, everyone always looks great when they leave the salon! Definitely worth the hour drive from NH!

Review from Selene B.
Methuen, MA
When I arrived I was told they could do the cut in the photo I provided, but then the stylist decided not to do it. Saying after the cut she did looked better on me without consulting me first. I was very disappointed. Will not return and will steer people to other curly salons. On a good note, they did get me hooked on DivaCurl products which I love.

I've been going to Erin at Cala Renee Salon for the past three years, and love my hair every time. I usually have a vague idea of what I want, and Erin puts those ideas into just what I'm looking for in a cut. I don't color my hair super often, but I've had highlights and all over color a couple of times- also fabulous. I also had my hair done by Erin for my wedding- the updo was gorgeous and held up beautifully at my outdoor wedding on a pretty humid day! The salon is always pretty and clean, everyone there is super nice, and I always leave with a great new style. Erin is also really good at directing me to products that work well for my hair, so now I'm totally hooked on the DevaCurl line. I've sent lots of friends to Cala Renee (both curly and straight hair) and would recommend to anyone looking for a great, professional salon!

Review from Erin W.
Beverly, MA
I found this salon by doing a yelp search and it was perfect! I was having one of those days where you are unhappy with your hair and need to do something about it quickly. I called and they had availability! I love places that take walk-ins!
I loved the personalized attention at this salon. I did not feel like I was being judged and my stylist sat down with me to get to know me first. I should mention that I had Erin, and she did a great job. She even told me after I left that if I was unhappy, she would do some maintenance on it.
Another reviewer mentioned it, but this place specializes in curley hair. I don't have curly hair, so I can't say anything about how well they deal with that type of hair. I do know that they did a terrific job with mine! I will definately go back. -

Boston, MA
A friend recommended Cala Renee for a color and cut and I was not disappointed. I loved the interior and the people--everyone was nice and happy to be there.
Color looks great and the prices were really great.
I have to wake up and wash, dry and style to check out the cut, but from what I see I love it. I am happy to 5 star once i get more things done, but so far, get there! -

I went here on the recommendation of a friend and have kept coming back. The staff is very friendly, the place is bright and clean, and they offer you coffee or tea. They also seem very kid friendly. There were two little girls getting their hair done the last time I was there, and they were very relaxed with the staff.
Erin (the stylist I see), listened to my ramblings on what I wanted and was happy to work with the photo references I brought even when I was like, "I like the bangs, but more this way not that, ya know?" She totally got what I wanted.
I'm very pleased and can't imagine not going there. -

Went again last weekend & it's been a year since I cut my hair (yes the cut lasted that long - that's how good they are!). treats & beverages were awesome, staff friendly & nice - not pretentious like other hair places.
Cala fit me right in last minute, gave me a cut & I was out with the best do ever! Love this place!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Susan W.
Boxford, MA
I went to Sarah on a recommendation from a friend who has strait hair. Since I have curly hair and have never really been happy with a haircut, I decided to try out the Deva Cut along with some color and foils.
I couldn't be happier with the results. Sarah sat down with me before we started to discuss the Deva Cut process and to find out what I wanted for color. As she went through the process, she explained each step along the way and told me how to do it. I found that wonderful, because it always looks great when the stylist does it, but I can never do it at home.
I haven't styled it myself, so I will update when I do. If I can do it well myself, I will go to a 5 star rating.
So far I have gotten 3 compliments about the cut and color in two days and that never happens! She also told me to feel free to call her if I had any questions between visits.
The only con is the price, but I shopped around for prices and they are the same as other salons in the area. Other people mentioned that parking was a pain. I'm not sure if I got lucky, but I easily found a spot and it is only 25 cents for 2 hours.
I highly suggest making an appointment at this salon! -

If you're looking to get a Deva Cut in the Boston area for a reasonable price, this is the place to go! I've been getting my hair cut by Erin for about a year and it's always a treat. This is the best my hair has ever looked, by far, and I can also go longer between cuts. If you sign up for their email list, you receive notification when they have sales on products or services. PS. You can pay by credit card but you can't add a tip, so bring your checkbook or some cash to tip the awesome people who work there. :)

I have curly hair and have been going to Erin for about 5 years now. Love it and love her.... wouldn't trust anyone else with my locks!! I love the Deva dry cut but unfortunately do not like the Deva products... I've tried a bunch a few times and haven't had great success. I use Ouidad (NY) and love it... wish they carried that line!!

Review from Felicia S.
Amesbury, MA
I've been going to Cala Rene since July 2010. I had reached wit's end with my curly hair and was ready to just have it straightened and be done with it, but then something told me to give Cala a try, since deep down I really did want to just go with my natural hair and not have to put chemicals into it. Cala and her staff taught me all about how to use the product line and gave me a great cut. I have gained so much time back since learning how to properly care for my curly hair - which means hardly any blow drying, and only getting it wet 2-3x per week. The Deva product line really works well for my hair, I'm never using anything else ever again. I would recommend checking out Cala and her staff for anyone who is looking for a way to enjoy their curly hair. I've also had them color my hair and that came out perfectly as well. The only thing I can think of negative about here is that it isn't accessible - the sinks for hair washing are located down a flight of stairs. Thankfully this isn't an issue for me. And price? I was VERY pleasantly surprised the first time I went - the lowest price I had ever paid for a cut and color. Thank you!

Review from Cindy D.
Ipswich, MA
I tried Cala Renee after an online search for curly hair. I have struggled with my very thick and curly quirky hair since I was little and this is the first time I have ever left a salon thinking 'Wow, I love this haircut!" I saw Erin and she was really great, taking a lot of time to figure out exactly what I wanted, making adjustments at my request, and giving me lots of good advice on how to best manage my hair. I will definitely be going back, and for anyone with crazy curly hair, I highly recommend trying this salon.

Review from Karen M.
Chestnut Hill, MA
I drive up from Chestnut Hill to get my 3c/4a curly hair cut by Cala. Cala spends time first asking you about your hair and its care and what your goals and concerns are. She cuts curly hair dry, curl by curl in the Devaconcepts method and uses Devacurl and Devacare products as well as other products.. My hair has thrived under her care. When I was transitioning to gray she gave me semi-permanent low-lights to soften the color/gray line and I loved them. I go 2-3 times a year.
