I really wanted to give Cairo Cafe five stars, but lack of ambience (or rather, typical "mom and pop ethnic restaurant aging furniture") forces me to knock off one star. They've been in business for 7 years and have locals who come in for dinner every night..
The food is absolutely fantastic. We walked in and were greeted by Fatimah, the mother who cooks all the food herself. We basically just asked her what we should order, and she got it just right by having us start with baba ghanoush and then "egyptian lasagna" and a schwarma. Their lemon drink, specific to egyptian culture, is DELICIOUS and refreshing. Five and half stars for that.
I'd go back regularly, and tell all of my friends to go there if I were local. Yummy food.
PS: the hookah smoke didn't bother us at all.
Nice chill place for a smoke or to hang out. Turkish coffee is pretty good and hookahs are smooth.
As someone who's been to Israel a lot and became pretty immersed in Middle Eastern culture, I'd have to say this hookah lounge/restaurant is pretty good. It's packed on Saturdays but comfortably empty (with a huge tv screen playing Arabic channel news and music clips in the background) during the weekdays.
Service is prompt and polite and their menu includes the usual Middle Eastern fare. The hummus was slightly off, but I think more people come here just to hang out and play sheshbesh and smoke and talk rather than eat. I order the mint tea every time...very good, but haven't tried many other of their dishes.
Good food and good hookah. The only reason I knocked off one star is because their ventilation doesn't seem to be as good as other hookah lounges in the area and all the smoke gets trapped inside the restaurant. If you don't want to be bothered by this, go during the day...Cairo seems to get busier with the smokers at night.
The food, however, is of good quality, good value, and yummy! I've tried some various shwarmas and seasoned fries...good stuff! Quality meat with no fat on it. The tea and smoothie type drinks are also great...try the tropical mix...very fruity!
