Can't Say enough about Cain...Phenomenal wine, exceptional views and Luke will take great care of you. He has been referred to as "a wine encyclopedia." Worth making an appointment and definitely worth the trek up Spring Mountain. ***Highly Recommended.
Hi Luke :-)
This was our first visit to Napa and Cain was a great way to start our wine tour. It's worth the advanced planning to schedule an appointment, and then a precarious climb (in the car) up Spring Mountain. The tasting itself is free and you are guided through Cain's Cuvee and Concept - both thoroughly satisfying. But the real jewel - a pricey one - is the Cain Five. It was probably one the best, if not the best, I've tasted on the this trip. Unfortunately, you won't find Cain in stores. Most of their bottles go to existing club members and a select number of restaurants.
I highly recommend a tasting here. In addition, you get a very brief tour of the premises and ample opportunity to soak in the great views.

I made it up to Cain on Sat and it was beautiful. The drive is not for the faint at heart, but I promise it is worth it! As noted, the tasting is by appointment only, but is free. We were taken on a nice tour of the property and then we went to the tasting room to try their three current releases. The man who did our tour was very knowledgeable and friendly and we even made friends with some of the other guests. If you like classic, big Ca. cab's, you must make an appointment. If you would like to drink some wine, in a beautiful and intimate setting, then you too, must make an appointment!

Simply put, this winery has become the top of the benchmark. Normally I don't give full 5 stars to a winery unless I really like their wines, but this is a rare exception.
I highly recommend to make an appointment few weeks in advance if going there during weekend. There is only 1 ~ 2 tastings offered per day (except Sunday when they are closed) for about dozen people, so availability is very limited.
And, BTW, the tasting is FREE.

This is truly a unique tasting experience and is strictly by appointment only.
I recommend you make this the first stop of the day unless you have a driver. This winery is located in the hills of St. Helena, up a narrow and windy road. All tastings are done in small groups and are family sit down style. We all sat around a large, regal table and tasted. The service was impecable and our guide was beyond well educated about the wine, the vineyard, and the area. This tasting was very social and everyone was encouraged to share their opinion about the wine and what they were tasting.
Great wine, great views....HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
