Love this place. Food is amazing and cheap. Great atmosphere. Waitresses are super personable, always remember me and always seem happy.

I like hanging out here. Probably because I'm a college student. All you really see here are frat boys, but I really look forward to Asian invasion nights! Which is mostly just Karen L. and Co.
Service is okay here. I don't really mind since my friends and I just come here to hang out/watch some sports/talk/laugh loudly. We end up paying less attention to the server than she does to us. The food isn't bad either. The 512 burger is good, but the mushroom burger tasted... musty. They have good drink specials, but I don't think their Texas Teas are as strong as they used to be. Which sucks since they upped the price.
But all in all, good place to hang out with friends! -

I have been to Cain and Abel's quite a bit in the last year, it seems like every time I got to Austin thats where my friends want to go and 'reminisce'.
I have never had a bad time there and their food is actually pretty good! You can eat, drink, play pool, or watch a game and there is always plenty of room. Plus, if you dont want to leave your dog at home you can bring it while it sits with you on the patio!
If you go, you gotta try their Texas Tea. It's sweet tea mixed with who-knows-what, in a mason jar. You have one, and your good to go:)Listed in: Drink Spots

I'm sure this place is completely insult-proof based on its location. Frat boys will continue to go there in their North Face fleeces even if the servers start spitting on people serving beer in old tennis shoes.
That said, I sure wish the staff here gave a damn about retaining non-frat-tastic customers. They don't.
My wife and I actually like the food there, and love the $2 top shelf liquor on Sundays. But it never fails that unless we order from the bar ourselves (and then get chastised by our waitress), we WILL NOT be served. Tonight we went in around 7pm. Outside was about half full, and there were maybe 4 tables occupied inside. With at least 5 people on staff out front, this was NOT busy. Nonetheless we sat there for literally 15 minutes without being addressed by anyone. We watched one waitress just hang out outside, and two guys sit at the bar chatting with the bartender. About 10 minutes in, the inside waitress walked to a table near us, asked if they wanted any refills, and then walked back to the bar. For the next 5 minutes, all 5 people on staff stood at the bar talking to each other, doing nothing. We loudly announced we were going to Cuatro's, and left.
Done with that, $2 drinks or not. -
Review from Kat L.
This review does not reflect the quality of the food/drinks, because they're actually not that bad. This is a review of SERVICE.
My boyfriend and I decided to join some friends who had already been drinking at C&A for about an hour (it was about 6 PM). So we walk in and the place is pretty much dead except for our friends finishing off their pitcher. We sit down with them, wait about 15 minutes, no waitress in sight (despite an empty pitcher and no one consuming ANYTHING).
That's okay, we say, we'll go order at the bar. So we order another pitcher for our friends and some food. We bring the pitcher back to the table and wait. A waitress eventually drops off our food, which isn't bad. She brings by the check for my boyfriend and me, he pays with a credit card, scribbles a tip and signature, and we continue to finish off the pitcher.
Suddenly a guy we have never seen before (was NOT waiting tables, was NOT working at the bar, we did NOT have ANY interaction with him - likely just started his shift) comes over to my boyfriend and asks, "can I talk to you for a minute?"
Turns out he thought my boyfriend left an inappropriate amount of tip. Oh really? For ordering from the bar because we were neglected by the waitress? For someone taking our food from the kitchen to the table and nothing else? For SOMEONE ELSE'S WORK, not his??? And you come interrupt us to demand more money? Dude, I'm sorry if you're not making enough money waiting tables at a college sports bar on a Tuesday night, but rather than harassing the customers maybe you should get another job.
Needless to say my boyfriend and I will not be returning. We can get our bar food elsewhere.Listed in: Boozy Times in the City, Seething Hatred

Review from Zach M.
Cain and Abel's, home to the world's worst service but the best food and drinks. I've been going here for almost 6 years and I think their waitresses get dumber so just order from the bar. You dont need a menu, they have a wide selection of food but the question boils down to do you feel like thinly sliced sirloin covered in jalapenos and queso served on a sweet bun (aka the El Toro and remember to ask for fries instead of chips) or chicken fried steak with jack cheese, bacon, jalapenos, lettuce, and tomatoes on a sweet but (aka The Famous Fumbler and how many times do I have to tell you FRIES INSTEAD OF CHIPS!). Unless your a girl, then you'll probably use a line about how you're watching your figure and get the Cali Chicken.
Also, every Tuesday is dollar beer night so arrive before 9pm to get a table for you and your friends inside. Order beer by the bucket or girls will think less of you. Unless your a girl, in which case they'll think "why didnt she get one of these drunk frat guys to buy her a drink" and that drink should be a big 'ol Texas Tea. There are two pool tables but the one downstairs usually has a line. There's a jukebox but unfortunately you get the occasional d-bag that plays his favorite hipster-emo crap. I've talked to management about getting those songs taken off but I think they're still bitter about me breaking some tables to Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight" (the drum solo is contagious). This place offers the best college atmosphere ANYWHERE around campus, which is worth noting that cops tend to sit across the street so before you leave take a deep breath and tell yourself "I can make this walk home." It's also worth noting that they've been known as a hard place with fakes so make sure your greek big or grand big pass you down a real ID.
This place pretty much made its name as a Greek Life hangout. So if you're not in a Fraternity or Sorority and hate this place, good. -

The main reason Cain's gets 3 stars is DOLLAR BEER on Tuesdays. It works out well, as my current Tuesday night grad school class is so mind-numbingly horrific that my classmates and I are generally in need of some self-medication after class. And off we go to Cain and Abel's.
Drinks: I've only ever been here on Tuesdays - get there early if you want to find a place to sit as it gets packed after 10/11ish. Dollar beers - delicious.
Food: I've had their burgers which are pretty good, but then again I was starved and depressed after said horrific class, so who knows if my perceptions were totally accurate.
Overall: Very convenient as it is close to campus, but it gets filled up with VERY young-looking girls. At 23, I often feel like an old lady in there after all the silly sorority girls walk in, all dressed alike and far too fancily for Cain's. I have gotten dressed up for Cain's once, and that was for my Birthday, which was sadly on a Tuesday and I had to endure the crappy class beforehand. And by dressed up for Cain's, I mean jeans and a nice shirt. Underage ladies - this is a bar, not a fashion show.
It tends to get pretty loud - they crank up the music despite it being standing-room only and you end up leaving with a man-voice (if you're a girl, comme moi) as you've been shouting at your friends for the better part of...hmm...5 hours. -

This was my worst experience at any food/drink establishment, ever. No exaggeration.
My roommate and I came here for drinks and dinner at 7 on a Monday. It was pretty dead, but we were there for a modest birthday celebration (my birthday) and weren't particularly interested in a crowd anyways.
We sat at the bar and the girl working it took awhile to come greet us and take our orders, but we were in a good mood, so it didn't bother us too much yet. She asked us what we wanted and when I asked for a Brandy Alexander, she said that they didn't have brandy or cognac (with an attitude) and wasn't prepared to offer to make it with the Grand Marnier she had right in front of her, that I saw after the fact. Since she couldn't offer what we wanted, we asked her about the selection. We asked what fruity drink she would recommend, and she literally said "Jack and Coke," in a sarcastic tone. We finally agreed on something random out of exasperation, and while she was making our drinks she was rolling her eyes at us, even after looking at my ID and being told it was my birthday.
Still, we didn't let her horrible attitude ruin our good time. But it was getting more difficult. We decided that we wanted to try the food. There was one table of people eating, with one waitress servicing them. There were 3 other waitresses use standing around by the kitchen. I made eye contact with one of them from the bar and raised my finger at her to try to get her to come over, and she literally ignored me. Thinking she was confused (although, how could you be confused at that gesture), we sat in a booth. In still being ignored for over 5 minutes, we finally asked the sole working waitress to help us.
She got someone to come over and give us menus. We had the tortilla soup and fish tacos, which were both fantastic. BUT we couldn't get our waitress to come back and give us our check, so we sat there for 10 minutes and even then had to have someone go fetch her again. We were her ONLY table!
The food was good, but I guess if you don't have on a highlighter pink shirt here, you'll get treated like trash, even if you look nice and it's your birthday. Thanks Cain and Abel's for having horrible service and making my birthday dinner suck. I will absolutely never come back, and urge others who have had a similar experience to do the same. -

I came here last Thursday to catch the March Madness. If you're looking for a cool, laid back place to watch sports and hammer some beers, you found it. The waitress tried to talk me into getting the sliders, but i had already eaten and it was time to booze.
The inside is really cool for a sports/cool place at night too. It's all wooded out, interesting stuff hung up everywhere, and has a real Texas vibe to it. The beer was cold the service quick, can't help but like this joint. And at night it gets crowded, and even more fun. But it was a sunny day time drinking spot for us. -
Review from Jessie R.
For a college/sports bar, I was pleasantly surprised by Cain and Abel's. The food is pretty decent, and they have very generous (week-day and Sunday) drink specials.
They are working on expanding their beer on draft selection, and are doing a nice job. However, with a wall full of taps that are hard to see unless you crowd the bar, it would be helpful if the menu included some kind of beer list. When we requested one, the waitress explained that they aren't going to make one until they complete their draft selection...
Riiight...
Upon visiting over three weeks later, they still didn't have a list. I understand that they want to save on costs by not re-printing a menu, but with such an extensive draft selection, I want something that I can look and ponder over for a while. I'm not the kind of girl who will just order a Bud Light. I'm a beer adventurer, and if there is something new that I should be sampling, I want to know about it!
If Cain and Able's is trying to be known as the go-to place for incredible beer selection, (and with the banner hanging off the side of the building advertising 70 beers on tap, I think they are) they need to be able to back that up with what beer aficionados require - a beer list with short descriptions of each draft.
But, that is probably asking too much from a campus sports bar, whose normal clientele are generally happy sucking down Buds and Millers until they can't see straight.
My bad for expecting too much. -

Went for $1 domestics on Tuesday. Definitely have had better service. Mostly a college crowd.

The only time I've ever been to Cain and Abel's, it was to go get cheap beer on Tuesday nights with all the other college crowd looking for something more exciting to do then study Literature of American History.
Surprisingly for a college hangout, the place is ridiculously tame and well spirited. The pool table rotates players without argument, the bartenders get to every one quickly and in turn, folks will always scoot over to make room if you want to sit down. Come to think of it, my experience at C&A's is that it has all good stuff about a college bar and hangout and very little of the bad. -

So, this place is basically an over-glorified watering hole for the local fraternity and sorority population. If that's your scene, you'll love it. If it's not, I dare say you'll probably still enjoy yourself.
This is going to sound lame, but one of my favorite parts about this place is the way they use the cardboard carriers that beer comes in to house their hot sauce, ketchup, salt, pepper, etc. It's just do dang cute.
I like the patio at Cain and Abels -- in fact, I've never sat inside before. I always order fried pickles, which are good but not the best. Really, it all boils down to the fact it's just a fun place to hang out with friends and drink beer.
I'm vegetarian, so I don't really have a lot of options because their selection is mostly limited to the typical bar food offerings. However, they do have a really great field greens salad with a balsamic vinagerette and blue cheese. It's not cheap, but it's good.
They allow under-agers in before 7PM, which is nice. And every Monday night during the school year they have INCREDIBLE specials on their huge, juicy cheeseburgers. You can get one for like under $3 bucks! As I said, I'm a vegetarian, but my friend swears by them! -

Went here with four friends yesterday and was not impressed. A chicken sandwich and some soggy chips ended up costing me $16. It was in the mid-afternoon, and it wasn't crowded inside, but our waitress pretended we weren't there. We never had our drinks refilled, and when one of our friends got there a little later than we did our waitress simply asked 'do you want drink, menu, whatever?' Then it took half an hour for her to get a salad. It took another 30 minutes to get the check, and we could never get her attention for anything at all.
Three of us paid with card, one with cash. She gave her back the wrong change and we found that she had charged my card for my friend's order and she had in turn paid for mine, so she gave me back the change. But this morning I look at my bank statement and she actually charged my card for BOTH orders. When I called, the manager kept saying 'like' after every few words and pretty much told me I was SOL. Extremely unprofessional place with horrendous service. -

Despite giving it 3 stars, I seem to wind up here about once a week, mainly because it's a 2 minute walk from my house. It can get a bit obnoxious with the plethora of greeks, but I'll deal with that for $1 beer night. The food is pretty tasty and not badly priced.
I would have given it 4 stars, except the service is TERRIBLE. Over the past 2 years I've gone here, I've had a friendly/attentive waitress maybe 5 times. Since you seat yourself, it can take a while (aka 30 minutes) for one to come over, so play it safe and grab the first drink at the bar. All in all, I recommend it for west campus folk, and I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't miss it when I graduate and leave Austin. -

Whew, this place was empty last night! The hubs & I ate dinner here last night when I realized I left my car keys in a friend's car who I ate lunch with, and my plans to cook us dinner had to get ditched. Usually during the school year it can get pretty packed with college kids, but we def lucked out -- service was still kinda sporadic, but we were in no rush, so it was no biggie.
Of course I tried the fish tacos once hubby pointed it out to me -- mannnn that crust was awesome, just sooo crunchy!! Two fish "sticks" but tasted like real fish -- saltier than I like it, and no side of sauce was brought out like the menu said, and our waitress went by too infrequently for me to ask -- but I still enjoyed it. For sure I'm a fried fish taco girl, now I know. The side of rice had maybe just as much corn in it, it was kinda weird, but I really liked the taste :D And the beans were waaay tastier than i expected. Hubby's gigantic chicken burrito didn't taste like anything special, though he appreciated the liberal dose of queso on top; the side of tortilla chips tasted homemade (I could be wrong), and the guac was brown but I didn't care + still thought it tasted good :D I'm way too easy.
But I like the chillness of it. And who doesn't love being almost 30 and still getting carded?Listed in: I heart me some fish tacos!

Cain & Abel's is a rustic bar / grill in the center of west campus. As expected, it is a hotspot for students to go grab a drink before/after games, on Friday/Saturday nights, and during happy hour. The genre is casual American cuisine with a Tex-Mex influence. There are a variety of choices in the salad, sandwich, burger, and breakfast departments.
Entrees:
* Migas - Eggs scrambled with tomatoes, cheese, tortilla chips, onions and jalapenos. Served with home fries, charro beans and 2 flour tortillas. - The eggs had cheese on top and some onions inside (I couldn't taste the tortilla chips or jalapenos). For the most part, they were bland, but great when paired with hot sauce. The home fries were actually fried potato cubes seasoned with onions, pico, and jalapenos: very flavorful. - An average, but filling meal for brunch. $3.99 on Saturdays and Sundays!
Uppers: outdoor patio, attentive service, great deals/prices, seat yourself
Downers: can be noisy -

As a student, C&A's is considered the unofficial campus bar. I know every day's drink special, and I definitely find myself here several times a week. They recently raised the prices on their Texas Teas, which means that Thursday is really only the day worth buying them ($7 tea special). The environment is fun and friendly. It's a great place to spend a weeknight, and a great place to go for a few drinks before going downtown. Also, the food is really, really good.
The reason I only give it 3 stars is primarily the service. C&A's is pretty much always understaffed and I feel like I'm always waiting to be served. When you do get served, the staff is nice and friendly. They just need more servers. -

Despite the incredibly Greek crowd, I love Cain's because it's always a sure thing. If you and your friends can't decided on anywhere to go eat/drink, you can always count on Cain's to be there greeting you with open arms.
Thursdays are my favorite for the discounted Texas Teas, but let's face it, I order them other nights too. If you want to eat, the Cali Chicken sandwich is by far the best bar food I've had. Pretty good beer selection, they have Blue Moon on tap so I'm happy. Tuesdays are $1 domestic bottle nights, how can you beat that?
Finally, game days are guaranteed to be a good time here so check it out! -

WOW!! Drink specials at Cain and Abel's are amazing! I didn't try the food but when I came for $1 domestics on Tuesday nights the place was packed! The later it got it did get overcrowded so my friend and I left. I was looking at other specials they have and they are pretty awesome! $6 Texas Tea on Thursdays! I have a feeling this won't be my last time to Cain and Abel's

We used to go to Cain & Abel's for their beer and their veggie burgers. Then they stopped serving veggie burgers. There's really no reason to go back.
One of only a handful of bars truly accessible to UT students chained to campus, it's a popular hangout for the nearby Greek community. The small patio can fill up quickly any night of the week, but there's usually 2nd floor tables that can be snagged.
I would expect this place to be rambunctious, but it's not really. Most frequenters of this watering hole are there for a beer or to come down off a difficult exam week or, god forbid, the recent achievement of one's Master's or PhD. The pool tables are old, but your balls won't slope too far. For a slightly better crowd and ambiance, try Crown & Anchor.
Cain & Abel's has their own lot, but street parking is just as easy. Southeast corner of 24th and Rio Grande.
Eh. Maybe worth a visit. -

The drink specials are ok. Dollar beer night is worth it, but the service definitely suffers whenever it gets busy. They just upped the prices on everything (Texas Teas went up $2) simply because they know they can. Food is ok, nothing special.
I go because of the location and the fact that my friends are always there. -

Cain and Abel's is neither good nor bad. I was in Austin staying with a friend of a friend for ACL last weekend, and we decided to swing by C&A's to grab a bite to eat fearing over-priced food at Zilker.
The food? It was fine. Nothing really exceptional. And the service was fast in friendly. All in all I'd have no qualms about going again, but I wouldn't exactly seek it out.
Maybe this'll change once I turn 21... hmm... -

Good selection of beer, I like it.

I feel a little bit out of place in this fratastic & sorority bar in the heart of west campus but I've always had a great time back in college. Tuesday $1 beer nights are always winner and their burgers aren't bad. I had 2 of my favorite drinks for the first time here: H-Bombs and Texas Teas. Absolutely amazing drinks created and invented right in Austin. This place is always packed on game days. Thank goodness I have frat/sororities friends to truly enjoy awesome scene.

If you're a fraternity brother or sorority sister looking for a place to drink during the day, you've stumbled in here more than once. Luckily there are more options springing up in West Campus to eat at, this place doesn't work itself to death to make sure you get the best service in town. I would easily find my way to Cuatro's or to Little Woodrow's before I went here. Sure, the burgers are good and the drinks are cheap, but I think that even if the "college" aesthetic is what they're going after they need to make sure they still give better service than what I encountered here. To summarize, pricing good: service bad. Good place to go if getting wasted is your #1 goal, and you don't care when you get your food.

The Patio baby.. thats where its at here. Lots of attractive people here hanging out having a good time. Some nights are packed while others are dead as hell. Drink of choice is definitely the Long Island Iced Tea. It comes in a rustic glass and its Texas Sized!! Its also liable to make you say the next morning - "I did WHAT?? I don't remember ANYTHING!!" good times good times...

This place is all in all pretty fratty. You can't go two minutes without seeing someone in a neon top and nike running shorts. The food and drink is pretty good, the service nothing spectacular. I guess the only reason I go there sometimes is because it's a hop, skip, and a jump away from my apartment. The blue cheese burger was pretty good. Overall, I would say go if you can tolerate the frattiness.

I've been to Cain and Abel's before for my hour lunch and I've had good service, today they were extremely slow, I really can't tell you why, it was not even busy. I was greeted at the door and told to sit anywhere I liked, with it not being so hot today I decided to sit outside. My friend her two girls and I were talking and realize no one has brought us menus or drinks, hmmmm, so I walk inside and there are 2 waitresses sitting at the bar chit chatting....I go and ask if we could get menus and go sit back outside. Another 5 minutes pass and finally the waitress comes out. My friend asks if there are any highchairs for her daughter, and the waitress says with an attitude "we don't usually have kids here, so we don't have any highchairs at all. She then gives us menus and takes our drink orders, goes back inside and another 5 minutes pass.....where are my drinks, they finally get there she takes our order...we order the same thing, she brings our food out and tell me why our plates look different, mine has no fries.....WE ORDERED THE SAME THING. She goes back in to get them and 15 minutes pass and still no fries or drink refills or waitress in sight. Honestly there were 8 other tables inside that were being waited on between 3 waitresses. I'm almost done with my food, and finally my fries come, still no refills, she doesn't even ask. We had to tell her to bring them and the checks. I will not be going back to Cain and Abel's unfortunately. I'd think twice before eating there. There are always flies inside and the service sucks.

Cain's was a good place to have dinner with friends, the atmosphere is really mellow and the people are friendly. The food was ok, I had the ranch burger and it tasted like any other burger I've had, nothing that really popped out, in a good or bad way. The prices are average, nothing too expensive or too cheap. Overall a nice place to get together on a regular day.

Awesome Texas teas! Limit two though, so be careful. The food is pretty good for bar food, especially hard to mess up stuff like chicken fingers and migas. $1 beer night is packed with frats, so if you want to avoid that crowd I would stay away. Service can be slow when its crowded and even when its not, but I've never had a bad experience.

Fraternity and Sorority hangout for 21+ year-olds. You do actually have to be 21 to get in and they are pretty strict, which was great when I turned 21. Before that, I hated that fact. Very much a college bar, but was pretty fun in college. They had dollar beer Tuesdays...not sure if inflation has affected that tradition but I have a feeling that it is still the same. Great patio to chill on weekends and decent bar grub. This bar pretty much stops being cool once you graduate.

I have to admit, I really like the Texas Teas this place has on Thursdays, they are good and they are a decent deal.
But... the food at Cain and Abel's WILL MAKE YOU SICK. Seriously. Once, while we were finishing an order of nachos, we found an orange navel sticker on our food, near the bottom. Hence, there was trash in the nachos... Sure, at least it came from the kitchen, but oranges aren't involved in making these nachos... how did it happen? So basically, I have to assume this place is dirty. Who knows what else was in there. What did I eat, you know? They didn't bother trying to make up for their error either, so I can only assume they are used to this type of thing...
Maybe it seems like I'm exaggerating, but I've re-tried this place many times, hoping that the food would get better. I'm an avid happy hour fan. I'm not even that picky, and I'm not rude, but unfortunately I'm pretty sure I've sent back a few dishes as soon as I've gotten them for similar reasons. And I don't appreciate them making me feel like a jerk.
Long story short, every time I have gotten food here, I have gotten sick later. The food may taste ok, but it's just overtly unclean.
There are decent drinks, but don't go here if you're hungry. -

Ten years ago, I used to think that Cain and Abel's was just a dirty college hangout (and I'm pretty sure it was), but times have changed. I went here for lunch one Sunday recently and was super impressed. First, every Sunday is "Sunday Funday", with $2 top shelf drinks and featured shots! (See photo for drink menu.) The frozen margarita was reasonably strong and one of the better frozen 'ritas in town; definitely the most bang for your margarita buck. Next, the burgers were excellent. I ordered the "512", with BBQ sauce, jalapenos, bacon, and cheese, and it was incredible. All the burgers are served on sweet buns, and they're not overly buttered or greasy. I don't think I've ever had such a satisfying burger that didn't leave me feeling like I might have a heart attack. Finally, after the remodeling several years ago, the place looks really nice now. The outdoor patio is a great place to spend the late afternoon. If I could wish just one small, little wish though, it would be that the Sunday beer menu included more than Miller, Miller, and Miller (in case I don't roll out of bed at the crack of noon looking for liquor or cheap beer).
