I was pretty much born and raised in Anza, CA.  Accumulatively, I've probably lived there altogether for just around 19 years.  Yikes.  I know.  I showed my girlfriend my hometown when passing throughout and she was like, "My God, I can't believe anyone can actually claim they're FROM here.  It looks like a trading post."

That said, there's not much to do in Anza.  People generally drink beer, smoke pot, get into heavy drugs and make claims that they have seen UFO's.  This is true.  Anza made an appearance on the popular paranormal TV show "Sightings" in 1994, I believe.

You could do all that, and you can go to the casino, too.  If you go there for their Sunday brunch, it's pretty decent.  I mean, it's buffet food.  Good buffet food.  It's not incredible but it's pretty okay.

I remember one instance I went there, it was raining very, very hard, about as hard as it gets to rain in Anza.  It was early in the morning and I was cold.  I spent the night at a friend's house and he didn't have a heater, I guess.  My toes were FROZEN and even my jeans were cold up against my legs.  We shared a joint and went to Cahuilla Creek Casino for their Sunday Brunch.  Brunch comes with two mimosas.  Mmm mmm mmm!!  I remember a stoned orgy of sausage, champagne, orange juice and cheesecake.  That was a great morning.

I'm originally from Anza. I lived there for sixteen years. Whenever I'm in town for Thanksgiving or Christmas, visiting my folks, I always finish off the night with a few beers at the casino. It's basically the only place that's open, and it's just down the street from my parents' house. And by "just down the street" I mean about eight miles away, but hey, this is Anza.

The food is actually pretty good, in my opinion. In the past, I think it used to be better, but it's not terrible or anything. The drinks are reasonably priced and the service is great. But honestly, what really makes this place for me is the sentimental value. I always see kids who I went to high school with, who are also home for the holidays and in desperate need of a good, stiff drink. Most of my friends in high school got their first jobs here. My first real boyfriend financed an entire summer's worth of trips to the beach and parties on his tips as a server at Cahuilla Creek. I ate an omelette at the casino the morning after I got really drunk for the first time. Memories!

Part of me wants to hate the place, conflicted as I am in my relationship with the place I grew up, but honestly, it's a lot of fun. Labor Day weekend they had a band play that did lots of Brooks and Dunn covers and country standards, but also David Bowie covers, and even an awesome cover of Tainted Love. It's one of the major bright spots in my visits home. If you're a local, you'll understand, but if you're from Palm Springs or San Diego and are just passing through, you probably won't be dazzled. But if you go there intending to be ironically amused at best, I guarantee you'll be pleased, and probably even surprised at how much fun you end up having.

I love a casino that hasn't blown up and expanded and has forgotten about the importance of customer service and Cahuilla is just that. Everybody is so nice and they ask you if you need any help and you cant get lost in this place. I love that coziness feel and it also helps that I won when I was there.

So if you ever feel like taking a scenic drive like my husband and I often do head on down to Cahuilla and check them out!!!

GD I love this casino. It has saved my ass during snowstorms and extra long lunch hours with nowhere to eat.  They have maybe 4 table games and a bunch of slot machines and are located inside a tent. A TENT.  I like their Ceasar salad.  Everyone, from the woman at the front door to the bar manager are super friendly.  During a snowstorm once, some couple from Michigan offered to take my ass down the hill. I said no, which is probably for the best because they would have chopped me up into little pieces and thrown them one by one out the window of the car as we headed back down to Temecula.  However, they were rather pleasant as we sat there together playing video poker, and I will be god damned if that woman was not wearing a wig.

Living in Temecula, most of us just go to Pechanga, or Pala.  The other day I got a hair up my :::::: and decided to drive up to Cahuilla.  Nice drive, since I've never been to Anza.  Great scenery.   I was shocked to see the size of the casino.  About the size of a rite aid, including a restaurant.   There were about 10 cars in the parking lot it seemed.   The people there were really nice and welcoming, especially the lady who did the club booth.   As I played some pennies, I waited for a waitress to come by, but they don't have them.  You have to self serve your own soda's and coffee, not that you have far to walk, its just against the wall.   It was ok, but will never drive that far again for that.

One of the best moments of my life happened in this casino.

It's in the middle of nowhere so you have to either be looking for it, lost, or on your way to an outlet mall with your female relative best known for the purposes of this review as 'Burl Ives'.  So Burl had to go to the bathroom and we conviently came across this oasis of nothingness in the high desert.  It looks like a few oversized Quonset huts from the outside but they've done a good job at stretching a buck.  The interior is standard small casino... loads of machines, East County residents smoking indoors and the prerequisite woman with a glittery sweatshirt.  Burl got excited when she spotted a serve-yourself soda machine in the middle of the casino floor, grabbed a Coke and started plugging away at the slots.  I wandered, then hit the bathroom.

I was washing my hands when *IT* happened.  Whitney Houston's "Saving All My Love for You" came on the speaker.  Sure, you know the song, but have you ever really listened to the lyrics?  Messed up!  They're about Whitney [when she was all of 22 years old, beautiful and at the peak of career, before Bobby and the drug charges dragged her down] being in love with a married dude!  Who'd want to hook up with a married dude? [Certainly not me, I have to be number one, or at least in the top 5 with mom, sisters, a dog, work and if he's Catholic, the Virgin Mary.]

So Whitney's singing, and the acoustics in the bathroom (the one by the buffet) are just fabulous.  I start belting it out and notice that Burl has also taken care of business and is staring at me with that "you're so weird" look that I've grown to tolerate and deliberately provoke.  Just as I'm hitting the high notes, a woman in a stall starts singing along.  Then another.  My singing voice, which makes dogs howl and babies cry, incited an entire bathroom full of gambling women to spontaneously break out in song at 10 o'clock in the morning.

Thank you, Cahuilla Creek.  One day I hope to be lost again.

If Bug Tussell had a casino, this would be it! It's a saran wrap building that was supposed to be temporary. That was 14 years ago. The overload of penny and nickle slots gave it away. How do they pay the electric? Against my better judgement, we ate dinner here. Yes, the train wreck continues. I had the turkey club. More like the latter. The bread wasn't burnt, but it broke apart when I bit into it. Which meant it was stale before they toasted it. The slaw was older than the bread. The fries that I tasted from someone else's plate were horrible. I also had a cob salad and that was pretty good. But I was told from a local that it isn't what it used to be?

I know the place from coming here before and my cousin lives in Anza. It is just a big shrink wrap building. The location is just off of 371 and it is a dangerous curve right at the entrance/exit. We decided to stop in and get a bite to eat and gamble a bit. I have eaten here before and it was ok. This time was bad. I had a burger loaded and it was dry and not very tasty, the fries were, I cannot describe. Bread was stale, service was invisible. Its sad when you go to the counter to pay and they looked at you like your nuts. The casino is not much either they just make do with what they have. The locals are either on welfare, just making it or have money and choose to live here. Strange group in here. Maybe because it was a former Indian burial ground that causes people to look and act funny. But if you live in Anza you do not have many choices. 3 stars for the circus. 1 for the food.

stopped here at 9:30am on a thursday morning to see the "crowd" at breakfast time at a casino that is basically made out of trailers and a tent.  was not terribly disappointed.  the air was thick with smoke as i walked in and there was a bounty, a bounty, of penny slots - I played some sort of keno slot thing and lost my shirt!  okay, maybe $20, which I was happy to donate......they have some sort of restuarant but after the sugar loaf cafe and the mentos I picked up at the mountain general store i was kind of stuffed and the cafe looked gross, honestly, fake dusty plastic  plants shouldn't be in a dining area.  period.   no card tables were open but there weren't that many people inside anyway.

there is an 8 by 10 stage in the back of the facility with a small dancing area in front of the bar - this is where I am guessing it goes down at 1am on a friday night in cahuilla - just wish it was close enough to san diego to witness it...
