A nice little lunch spot. At the recommendation of a fellow Yelper I checked out Pazzos one day. They have a nice variety of sandwiches and salads on the menu, some original items as well, such as the rare seared Ahi Tuna sandwich. Although the combinations on the menu sound delicious they do leave something to be desired. I found the ahi a little bland. Oh,  in addition to your order you can pick up some bread and olive oil and vinger for free to have with your meal.

The prices are a little steep in my opinion, but I guess they are taking advantage of the limited choices of lunch venues in the area. Also I hear it gets crowded during the lunch time rush. I have not run into this problem since I grab lunch later in the day.

I absolutely adore this place!  My 5 star-rating for these reasons:
- Daily specials that change daily so that you keep on wanting to come back more to try new items.
- Ingredients are fresh & healthy.
- Friendly staffs.
- Online pre-ordering.
- Cleanliness of the place.

I haven't tried their "Cheap Eats", but I am sure I will one of these days as this place is becoming my regular lunch place :D

I love their whole menu....   Everything is prepared well and taste delicious.  The Lunch lines get a little ridiculous so if you know what you want i would highly recommend you calling before going there.  Salads, Sandwiches are delicious plus you can get small slices of bread with olive oil, vinaigrette or butter....

Downside is my co-workers more than one have mention they've seen cockroaches walking threw the counter tops.... this could have been 6 months ago or a month ago, i'm not sure.  Since I have never seen this i continue to go there, but i always try to keep an eye out just in case....    not sure what their food score card is, seems like it's worth checking out.

This is a great local place to come grab a bite to eat located inside of the S.F. Design Center.  We love coming here because of their great sandwiches, soups, and interesting specials they serve.  They always have something on their $5 (cheap eats) menu that is there throughout the week.  They will change the menu item the following week.  Their specials rotate as well and it ranges from unique salads to Vietnamese chicken sandwiches.  I always will want to try their "Phils steak Melt" because of the sliced steak that is cooked medium that just melts in your mouth.  I also like how the cheese is melted into the grilled panini style bread they serve the sandwich on.
I never get tired of coming to this place to eat.

A new favorite lunch destination at work.

The food is actually from "Mission Bay Foods" but they serve it at this place called "Cafe Pazzo"

The ham, brie, and orange marmalade baquette is almost.. almost as good as the ones in France. Their $5 lunch specials are a steal! Salads are delicious.. fresh, healthy, and yummy!

It's like a fancy fast food place with healthy and delicious options. Fairly decent price for what you get for SF! $7-15 depending on what you get.

Most people who eat here work in or around the surrounding buildings.

How did I not know this place was here. I have lived in Potrero Hill for 1 1/2 years and I had never been here? What is wrong with me? I got there at 1pm and walked right up to the counter -- no wait.

First off, the staff was really nice. They were happy and courteous and gave me a box with a smile. A smile goes a long way sometimes.

I had the Fellini sandwich, which has slices of turkey breast in it with a bunch of veggies. It was very good, although I should have chosen a less tough bread. But that was my own fault. My sister had the tuna sandwich with avocado which was fantastic and my boyfriend had the chicken. I only got my hands on a little bit of skin. The rest was gone before I blinked. The little bit of skin that I got was great. You can a choice of salad or potato salad. The potato salad is good.

What I also like about this place is bang for buck. I couldn't get anywhere near finishing my sandwich, which I paid a whopping $6 for.

I will be back :)

I want to like this place due to their delicious Nancy Sinatra sandwhich and the soups (espec ially the ocasional gazpacho) but their roach problem has gotten out of control. It wasn't an issue when I saw one climb over the counter, everyone but me and the counter girl locked in a helpless, frightened stare-- however, when there was a baby roach in my salad to go, I absolutely flipped.. this place needs to be shut down, its a wonder the health department hasnt.......  but we all know how SF politics work.. a little hush money goes a long way.

I felt bad for this poor girl working for a porly managed business that takes advantage of the design crowds empty stomachs and full wallets.
its all a business crowd gimmick with well presented, lower end, yet overpriced food

Some people judge a place's worth by how they cook Eggs Benedict. For others, it's the steak that does it for them.

Well, for me it's salad. And Caffe Pazzo has several delicious, fresh, innovative and very healthy salads that are sure to please even the most discriminating of palates - and all for a reasonable amount of bones.

The outdoor seating at this place kills it, too.

I really really like this place.  Me and my coworker go here sometimes for lunch.  They have a good variety of food from sandwiches to soups to salads, all DELICIOUS and with pretty good prices.  The owner owns Dos Pinas as well which I love too.  Their split pea soup is TO DIE FOR-its soooo delicious and has sweet yam bits in it and bacon bits and comes with a side of this toasted garlic bread and all for only like $2.95! yummm

Oh, I just love this place. It's like a creative heaven on Henry Adams St. safely tucked away from the highway underpass and the grimy streets of SOMA. Here, in the design district of SF everything is shiny, preppy and inspired by Italian influences. I work off 11th & Folsom St., away from luxurious cafes that serve Pete's coffee and play melodic music. I usually eat lunch at work to save money. This was my big "lunch out" date with my co-workers.  I didn't even know this place existed, but now that I do - I must come here more often. I ordered their chili con carne, a fruit plate, a chai latte and a cupcake. We ate outside in the sun. It was like we had escaped to a small European eatery where the world is at peace and they play Sting outside all the time......

(Yes, I'm kidding here....although I do enjoy Sting.)

Pazzo is right by the SF Design Center and inside a building filled with interior design oriented show rooms. In other words, you'll see lots and lots of Designers and other fancy people dressed up like its their job to spend other people's money.

Must plan my next trip here. Hope they'll have more tables with umbrellas in the summer time. The area is devoid of natural shade.

Checking out their Web site, it looks like they do on-line orders too.

so easy n breezy...

i like this place b/c:

1.) it's CHEAP - i can walk outta there full on less than $5.  i really like the $5 CHICKEN CHIPOTLE special they have on certain weeks.  the chicken is yummy, flavorful, and not dry.  i also like the NAPA SALAD w/ blue cheese... the small size is enough for lunch for me.. and for less than 5.  also, free self-serve bread.

2.) it has DELICIOUS n SIMPLE food options... salads, sandwiches, and soups... all unassuming yet satisfying.  this is a popular place, so get here before lunch time... or CALL AHEAD to put in your order before you get there so you can bypass the line.

3.) there's OUTDOOR SEATING

4.) and FEELS GOOD .... and lotsa windows, lotsa space, lotsa tables and chairs

I met my friend for lunch here today. I was looking forward to it, both because I miss my friend and because last time we went to Caffe Pazzo it was really good.

We both ordered the same things we ordered last time. Unfortunately, the quality has really gone down. I ordered the bleu cheese Caesar with steak. The menu says it's "grilled flank steak." The last time I order it, that's what I got, and it was great. This time, the steak was super thinly sliced roast beef. Not grilled. This was more like deli meat. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't "grilled flank steak" either.

I also ordered an iced tea. Pretty simple. I remember I liked the iced tea last night. But now instead of brewing ice tea, it's from a powder, and it's really artificial tasting. I couldn't finish it.

It's a shame, really. I think in order to cut costs in a bad economy, Pazzo has chosen to lower quality. It shows.

I came here with some coworkers a few weeks back and was pleased with what I found. Almost everything on the menu sounded good, so I'll be back to try some more. Their salads were quite tempting, but I eventually settled on one of their weekly specials: the turkey euro style baguette with brie and cranberry sauce. It was delicious. It also came with a side salad and the portion size was just right, I was pleasantly satisfied, not to be left hungry or overly full.

I guess the manager saw my review.  Here's her response:

Sorry you're not feeling well.
For the record, yesterday we sold 27 orders of tuna salad and over 100 portions of the green salad and to date, yours has been the only comment we have received.
We prepare everything fresh daily, do not use leftovers, and are very serious about proper food handling, storage and cleanliness.

We look forward to serving you again.
Please feel free to call or email if i can be of further assistance.

Thank you

Elizabeth Zipper

I wish the food poisoning was only my imagination!  I ate there on Tuesday and wasn't able to eat any regular food until Saturday and felt lilke total crap.  The sandwich was the only thing I had eaten that day.

Had to drop 3 stars based on one is our party getting sick....that is just NOT acceptable!

Best place near the Jewelry/Furniture Mart by far!

So many yummy choices for sammies, salads, and piadine. They also have Peet's coffee!

You order at the counter, wait for your number, then find a table.  This worked just fine, even at noon when we were there.

I had a BLT on sour dough...wonderful high quality bacon, piled high with veggies, and wonderful lemon mayo....and a generous side salad.   Hard to finish!

When it is a "jewelry day" for one of our girls, we will definitely come back!

I am lowering my review to 1 star because not only does this place constantly screw up on my order (even on off hours) I just tried to have a sandwhich made with substitutions and they call to tell me they can't do it.  I said that my substitution ingredients are on the menu and that I would pay more but they just said they just can't.  Um, you're a restaurant, that is your job.  If you can't (wont) do that you are pretty useless and I'm taking my business elsewhere.

Pazzo is my secret spot for when I want a good lunch by myself. It's 4 blocks away from work... and in SOMA world, that equates to 9 blocks in real world: 4 extra cuz the blocks are so big and 1 extra cuz the walk up the sidewalkless Townsend adds an extra hellish layer that makes the walk seem like forever.

But I'm glad once I get there.

I can never decide on their delectable menu. I am trying to be healthy and Pazzo makes it fairly easy to make good-for-you choices. Although last time I was there, they had a special.... shortribs sugo over polenta. :::drrroooolll::: I was extremely tempted, but opted for a healthier soup and salad combo... of course I was jealous as I watched plate after plate come out.

I love sitting upstairs next to the little window... makes me feel like i'm on vacation or something. Even if it is for an hour in a hectic day.

Also, I don't know what people are talking about as far as the Nick's Greek salad. i've seen a few people say it's bland. I thought it was so flavorful with really tasty herbs and great combinations of veggies. It's certainly not the same as a traditional greek salad, but none-the-less still extremely yummy.

Yes, it does take some time to get your food. But it's not so unbearable. But of course for me, it's a special treat, as my trek up Townsend is like searching for mecca.

Okay, it ain't a religious experience or nothing, but it's still damn good.

Caffe Pazzo is alright.
The Nick Greek Salad is really bland, and their Mediterranean Plate is too salty - their couscous and hummus are drenched in sodium. Today I ordered the Marco Pollo salad, but they forgot to give me a fork even though my order was a pick-up, and they didn't put my dressing on the side like I requested. I also ordered a Peet's tea, and all they did was give me a cup of hot water, meaning I had to go to the counter, grab a tea bag and make it myself.

With those negatives aside though, I really do like the location of this caffe, and I LOVE that you can sit outside. I also like the fact that they just have this big box of sourdough bread for you to take. I like the online ordering service, and the staff is pretty friendly. The iced tea is good - it comes with lemon, and it's not way too sweet. The Rico salad is also really good - it has cantaloupes, grapes, walnuts, cranberries with a scoop of chicken salad. The portion of this salad is small compared to others, but i think it's just right if you eat it with the sourdough bread. :)

I eat here way too much only because my office is located in the biggest dining void in all of SF.  They make a surprisingly good personal sized pizza, but avoid the pepperoni "stick" version.  The pepperoni slices curl up when baked and become deep pools of grease.  The 1/2 pizza & salad combo is always a winner because I never can finish a whole pizza.  Just be prepared to wait...and wait...and wait if you order one.

The baked goods are so-so.  The chocoloate chip cookies will give you instant cavities.

Another one of the Mission Bay Foods empire and again, good food and good value. Look out for the coffee happy hour between 8 and 9.30 for half price coffee, I get my latte there for a buck fifty, sod starbucks. They have a nice fruit/granola cup as well, although they insist in putting chocolate pieces in that for some bizarre reason.

As for lunch, I recommend the asian salad, the meatball sandwich, pizza, baja steak sandwich, and their soup looks pretty good. All the sandwiches come with a side salad of nice greens, and they have bread, olive oil, and balsamic vinager on the side as well.

Having passed this place on the way to work numerous times, I finally gave Caffe Pazzo a try to escape the 400th pizza lunch at my office (If I didn't know better, I'd swear we have an ownership stake in Amici's).

Anyway, a group of us tried various dishes on the menu - I opted for the Marciano Hero.  The sandwich was delicious, with a tasty marinara to complement the well-prepared meatballs.  Unlike other eateries that attempt to make a similar creation, the meatballs were moist and not overcooked to point of resembling the rubber balls you'd get as a kid from the quarter vending machines.  As a table we shared an order of the pesto garlic cheese bread, which was good but seemed to be missing something.  The side salad has a decent vinagrette, that may be a bit overseasoned for most tastes.

The seating offers both an indoor and outdoor option, which is a plus for the normally sunny SOMA neighborhood.  The only other drawbacks I could find were repeated venturing back to the counter for utensils and condiments - and unfortunately having my order take 10 minutes longer to prepare than the rest of my party.

On the whole, I really enjoyed the good food and hearty portions of Caffe Pazzo.  With the limitation of truly good options to eat around my work, Caffe Pazzo looks like a place that should consistently deliver a quality meal that sends me back to work satisfied (if a little sleepy)

Was looking for Pizza on yelp and came across this.
Right across the street from where I work/live, so good a reason as any to escape the work-from-home job stress and walk around in this sunny designster enclave of SOMA
Like most restaurant's here, they primarily serve the breakfast and lunch crowd for this area of spendy home furnishings and Dieter 'touch-my-monkey' lookalikes.
The ambiance was just right, nice open lofty breezeway type of space, with floor to ceiling industrial windows. (There's even an open wifi network if the iphone wasnt lying)
Food selection was good, I opted for the lunch special , some chicken of some sorts with salad, side of 1/2 garlic bread and a hibiscus iced tea for $10.
Wait wasn't terrible (I went at 230 and it closes at 3).
Some other's commented on that, but what you u really expect from ppl who work there who are prolly barely making 10/hr?

Meal was decent, I am full, and haven't gotten food poisoning, yet... (-1 start cuz some of the inner hunks of chicken were red, so I didn't eat those slivers, nor complain, just picked them off, is that caveman like?)

There is online ordering and separate pickup line, (I wanted to check it out in person)

Interesting conga line of people parading thru the place, and thus good for watching
Most amusing was the blonde from the gym next door in tights (or does she always walk around like that.. just got out of step?) and the 40ish woman in all black, whose hair appeared to get even frizzier as the 'water didn't work' and had to go back and back for silverware and other accoutremonts (the electrodes protruding from her head almost did one of those Jacobs ladder electrical arc type of things. she was so passive aggressively charged --which may be inidicative of so many friscans)

Went into unsavory paparazzi mode and snapped some pics and freaking some people out in the process (another handy use of the iphone)

I upped em too, enjoy

I'd go back, nice break from sitting at computer, staring at screen, typing...

This will be short and sweet (unlike the line at Caffe Pazzo)
They have daily specials, although I couldn't tell you about any of them because they are always sold out by 1pm.
They have soups as well, but are usually sold out of them by 1pm.
They have good sandwiches if you have a half and hour to wait around for them.
Three stars for the quality of the food when you finally manage to get your hands on some.

Great lunch spot if you are in this part of SOMA.  The line can be long & slow but there is plenty of seating, even some outdoors when the weather is good.

They make their own pizza crust from semolina daily.  That rocks my world!  AND they support local farmers & suppliers which is a major plus for me.  Fresh salads and a nice size menu for sandwiches and soups too.

You can order in advance for pick up, and soon order & pay online so you just pick up - that will really rock my world!

Cafe Pazzo is just a short stroll down the street from my office on Townsend and it is nice break from our cafeteria. It's inside the Design Center if you're having trouble finding it.

I've been there twice and gotten the same thing both times - the Turkey and Swiss Ciabatta sandwich. I have a terrible habit of always ordering the same thing from places that I really like and I fear that I am missing out on a lot of great alternative options. Anyway, this sandwich has this amazing cranberry orange relish on it that I can't resist. The sandwich is huge and comes with a side salad, so it is a big lunch.

At 12:15 on a weekday, the wait can get long, but once you order, your food comes relatively quickly considering how many orders they are processing. There is plenty of seating (check upstairs if the tables on the 1st floor are full), including a few outdoor tables.

I work in this building, and sometimes I get really REALLY bored with Pazzo because they don't change their menu that often - even the Daily Specials and soups get repeated.  So, I try not to eat downstairs at Pazzo that often...

HOWEVER.  The food is really fresh and well presented, and the staff is really really nice.  They've gotten better with order turnover times in the past few years.  And now they serve Peet's Coffee, which is fantastic.

Pazzo makes some tasty sandwiches (fave: Tony B) and salads (fave: Marco Pollo) but they're on the expensive side, and they're so slow that the staff actually wears t-shirts that say "relax, we're working on it".  They do provide some bread with balsamic & oil to munch on while you wait, which helps a bit.

They always run out of their specials early, because the Design Center regulars are so sick of the standard menu that they leap at anything different.

Tasty fresh salads and big sandwiches for cheap.  Near the SOMA roundabout.   And a nice outside patio or sunny inside dining area.  Order at the counter.

Tuna and avocado sando was mushy upon mushy, but good...  Mista salad was super fresh greens, uber-candied walnuts, dried cranberries and bleu cheese.

Pazzo is here mostly to feed the office-lunch crowd, so by SF foodie standards the food's not that great (at least, my Asian Chicken Salad was unmemorable).  Still, its location in the bright and airy lobby of the Design Center is pretty neat, and if you sit at the shaded sidewalk tables on a sunny day, it's just like an al fresco lunch in SoCal.  Not bad for an ugly industrial district.

Agreed that this place experiences a major 12:00 rush, so come early or late.

I work near here so I've tried several items on their lunch menu. The first time I had the Napa salad with bleu cheese, walnuts, and cranberries. It was huge, fresh, and a good value. Since then I've tried the Greek salad and the Rico chicken salad and I was disappointed with both, they were bland and unsatisfying for the $7-8 price tag. The chicken salad I finished in like 2 minutes and I was not too happy when I had to go go back to work hungry with no cash left in my wallet to buy anything else. Oh well, I know better now. I'll give them an extra star for the service, everyone has always been friendly and they get my food out quickly.

I like this place.  It's technically more of a 3.5 but i figured what the heck and went for the full four stars.  the food is good and fresh and the tuna/avocado melt is delish.  the service is ok but the kitchen isn't the fastest due to the sheer number of people who dine here between 12 and 1pm on business days.

never enough tables and things can get ugly outside on nice days while people jockey for tables.  really good option for SoMa workers who typically have limited food choices that are open during daytime hours.

Worthy of 3.5 stars. However, I was rather disappointed with my take out order today - the sourdough BLT with green salad side. A very messy sandwich. I requested light on the mayo but it was covered in the stuff. Additionally, the sandwich is advertised as having lemon mayo, but I didn't detect any lemon at all. The bread was not as sourdoughy as I hoped either.

Previously I had the Marco Polo salad. A work colleage recommended this, calling it "stupendous." It really was a damn good salad.

Another co-worker always orders the chicken club sandwich and loves it. I think I'm going to try that next time.

UPDATE***************

Tip for reducing wait time: phone in or email your order. It makes life so much easier. You can skip right up to the phone/fax order line to pay and pick up. It's great.

Tip for what to order: It's all about the panini sandwiches. I have had the pressed pork piccata sandwich and the turkey artichoke. Both are excellent.

There is nothing worse than leaving a place feeling that you made the wrong entree choice. I ordered clam chowder and a chicken sandwich instead of the spaghetti and meatballs.  In our group of five, the ones that ordered the meatball sandwich and steak sandwich were very happy with their choices.

Initially, I thought about ordering the spaghetti and meatballs dish but then I visualized myself spilling it all over my dress shirt so I played it safe and went with the chicken sandwich.   My roasted garlic-sage chicken sandwich was good but nothing special.  I liked the asiago cheese on the sandwich and thought the aioli sauce was decent.  I didn't taste though any seasoning on the chicken and thought it was a little bland and dry.

The clam chowder wasn't creamy enough and just tasted generic.  This is a common complaint of mine in regards to clam chowder at cafes and restaurants in the city so I did not take the clam chowder into consideration with my rating of Caffe Pazzo.

The only place I have had great clam chowder in San Francisco is at Fisherman's Wharf of all places.  Few people go to Fisherman's Wharf besides tourists or if you have a visitor in town and reluctantly agree to see Alcatraz for the eighth time.  However, I find myself at least once a month taking the cable car from Powell Street to Fisherman's Wharf with all the tourists hanging out of the cable car and taking pictures just so I can have decent clam chowder.  Once I get off the cable car and land in Fisherman's Wharf, the questions start from all directions.

"How long are you staying in San Francisco?"
"Where are you from?"
"Would you like to rent a bike to go over Golden Gate Bridge?"
"Are you interested in a day cruise around the bay?
"How about five postcards for $1?"

After talking with people trying to sell me day trips, cruises, or  five postcards for a $1, I usually watch the bushman jump out at people for a few hours but then after that, I finally grab a great bread bowl of clam chowder on the street and all is good.

I'll keep looking for a great place for clam chowder in the city but until then, I'll take the cable car with the tourists to Fisherman's Wharf at least once a month and continue pretending to be a farmer from Iowa as I'm bombarded with people trying to sell me tourist stuff.

Good lunch specials. The napa salad is reasonably priced, as a half salad. The food is good and tasty. Orders are rushed out upon ordering.

Great place for lunch if you work in the area.  Good and cheap.
- 1 star because they tend to run out of stuff.
