Caffe La Boheme is the best cafe. End of story. The coffee itself is great. The chocolate is amazing. Unless you hate chocolate get chocolate in your drink and if you are truly a chocolate fanatic get the Italian sipping chocolate (with whipped cream). There are always seasonal flavors including the ever popular salted caramel latte, cinnamon roll latte and gingerbread latte. No drip coffee but you would be doing yourself a disservice getting that given the options. Prices aren't the cheapest (cash or check only) but you do have to remember that everything on an island is more expensive and Robert only buys the best for his customers.
The owner, Robert, and the baristas who work for him (Suzanne, Jan and Lindsay as of summer 2011) are some of the nicest people. If you visit during the summer please understand that they are serving hundreds of people each day and it can be rather stressful on island in comparison with the rest of the year. There are always maps of the island in the cafe and the bulletin board at the back is kept fairly up to date. The decorations are tasteful and the art on the walls is by local artists.
In a lot of ways the cafe (referred to as either the cafe or Robert's) is a locals spot because it is a great spot to relax and bump into friends and catch up on gossip. But I recommend the store to anyone. If you stick around and read while drinking your coffee and eating your Holly's baked goods (right next door, closed in the winter but amazing baked goods) you will definitely get a taste of local flavor.
All in all I cannot say enough good things about Caffe La Boheme. Go visit and be friendly and nice! As the sign hanging in the cafe says: "If you can't be kind at least have the decency to be vague". -

Take a boat, grab a coffee, and wonder why Starbucks is tainting the world when there are options like these guys.
Grab a snickerdoodle from Holly B's next door too.Listed in: Deathbed Coffees

Robert makes you feel like a local from the get go, even when you're only able to be here a few times a year ... delicious espresso and SERIOUSLY the BEST Mocha imaginable. The Italian sipping chocolate is the soul of the place, that, and Robert of course! The delicious dark Italian sipping chocolate takes a mocha, which is usually too Hersheys or too sweet for me and other fellow Lopez cafe goers, to the land of an enlightened pleasurable experience! Can't wait for my next hit!

This place has it all: great coffee (they serve Graffeo coffee from San Francisco), warm and inviting atmosphere, friendly locals and even spirited discussions perfect for a small coffee shop. I had a moment in here; a moment of pure bliss when I overheard a couple of the locals passing by one another in the shop. Instead of the typical mindless chit-chat, they started a discussion about socialism and how Americans feel about socialism. It was completely unexpected and refreshing on a lazy Sunday morning.
