it's like a time warp inside here. it's the little cafe that gentrification passed over. and oh yes, T fuckin' G, because this place knocks my bobby socks off. they perfected....PERFECTED ice coffee.
most place screw up iced coffee. the ice usually waters it down.
BUT!
guess what the ice is here?? for the iced coffee??
the ice cubes are made up of coffee! frozen coffee! the drink stays cold but does not get watered down.
it's fucking ingenious.
they also make a creamy, chocolaty, fizzy egg cream here that will make every other egg cream in your past pale in comparison.

Owww!
I love this place. It reminds me of Italy. Gritty Italy. And that grit is hard to find in this gentrified city. It's small, it's dark, it has random buys like those giant chocolate in aluminum things they sell for easter.
The coffee is good. But Joe (the owner) and his wife (Josephine) make it with love. I had nothing better to do, so I plopped a chair outside, hung out with Josephine, and drank 1) a cappucino (not bad, not amazing) and 2) their mainstay, their claim to fame, the iced coffee (almost slushee esque) which was indeed lovely.
This place is so good. I yearn for the iced coffee.
I asked all over Rome, Naples and Capri for ice coffee granita like they make at Caffe Capri, but none was as good.
I only hope this place stays around for me to have some of their ice coffee granita on my next visit to New York.
I come to this place from Manhattan just to get a coffee float (Manhattan Special Espresso soda with shaved ice and vanilla ice cream) or one of their delicious iced coffees. Getting a chance to sit and chat with the owners in the festive decor of the joint is a real treat too. Don't bother with the hipster coffee joints that are on Graham Ave - their coffee isn't as good, and they cannot compete with the distinction of this place.
Best iced coffee I've ever had. I crave it every summer. It's really expensive but worth it for a treat!
I come here for the iced cappucino and iced coffee. I may not be a coffee expert, but I leave this place with a good cup of coffee which isn't overly strong, and the guy in there always seems happy to serve you. They take their time making the coffee, and thoroughly mix everything up, and you never feel like you're being pushed out the door. That's how I like to start my day. Happy Happy.
I love this place just for being such an old world relic run by an adorably elderly couple from the isle of Capri. Even the gates and exterior styling are reminiscent of the calm, simple and traditional charm found in Capri.
Another one of those great neighborhood classics - its one of those relics of the past that survived years of change - yet their humble roots and authentic touches never fade. I hope they keep their original time-capsule-like ambiance.
I haven't been here since 2002, when I moved out of Greenpoint, but I don't remember the capuccino being a favorite. I just remember feeling like I discovered a rare artifact when I stumbled upon Caffe Capri in 2001, during my last year in undergrad school. I liked it for being a unique (if not bizarre, with all of the chochkes) little secret tucked away under the BQE (just about) and not really being all that into the pastry or the coffee (hence 3 stars)....as much as I hate to admit it. But since my food/beverage comments are based on a distant memory, I think that means that I am officially required to make an experience-based update soon....
Best iced coffee in town. The ice is actually frozen coffee.
I've had some pretty good pinoli cookies here. I think I also had a hot cappuccino that was excellent as well.
It is a very relaxed place, and I think (what with all the coffee, natch) that I was always a bit too hyper to fully feel comfortable here.
Caffe Capri arguably has the best cannoli around. They make them ready to order so they're never stale or soggy. The proprietor is always up for a bit of chit chat about the neighborhood and he'll likely put your attire to shame with his ascot while doing it. The decor is genius cozy Italian with liberal application of tiny colored lights and imported goodies stacked everywhere. Everyday is Christmas at Capri.
It's not always the best place to hang out cause you may feel like you're invading someone's dining room. Nor is the coffee/espresso the best around, but it has more character than a psychological profile of David Mamet.
best ice coffee anywhere. done.
Best Coffee Shop. Anywhere! I feel like I'm visiting my grandparents when I'm here. They're so sweet and polite. You can't help but feel special as they carefully and so delicately mix the milk and add sugar. The ice is shaved and soaked in coffee all day it makes for a slushy drink that is like no other iced coffee around. A good place to go alone and hear interesting conversations from locals. Also the music is usually frank sinatra or dean martin to fit the framed pictures of the rat pack around the store. Such a great place.
