This is turning into my favorite restaurant.

Really, on a Sunday afternoon, I prefer to have my conversation over a table with a prosciutto pizzetta and diet cherry soda. Not out on a sidewalk waiting for a table across the street.

The service here keeps getting better!

P.S.:  Remember, it's cash only.

Give me good Coffee or Give me Death.

this seemingly small little cafe and coffee shop is just off the N-Judah. it's the perfect place for a pre-shopping treat!
Although there is small amounts of seating in the shop...there is a large outdoor seating area where you can sit for as long as you'd like. We saw a group of 6 people huddled around a small table playing cards last Sunday....so clearly...people are so happy here they want to camp out for the whole day - with friends.

Although I've had the coffee here before - and liked it - this last time I got a Cider and adored the smooth flavors of their classic Autumnal drink.

I'm a fan of places with food cooked to order also...and prices that don't break the bank.

This place is OK, but for some reason, the "help" just don't know their place.  Don't make me get my switch!

I am all about sitting in the back in a back yard patio dining type of area with green here, gaia there, but really.  Don't be such jerks to customers if they aren't regulars.  If you are so excited about the back patio, you might like to try a good "Back Patio" experience with Beer and Pizza.  Go to Jupiter in Berkeley http://www.yelp.com/bi...

Oh wait, they are in close proximity to Zazie.  The "tude" must be contagious like ebola.

Unless there before 10am - neighborhood folks don't even bother dealing with the Yoga mat toting/dog walking/Tully's drinking/stroller pushing mob outside Zazie.  Instead we go to the other place with good food, beer/wine/coffee and a patio - Cafe Reverie.

Breakfast is solid.  Normal selection of egg dishes and pastries.  But for me the stand outs are their lunch and dinner items.  I've yet to have a sandwich or salad there I didn't love.  But be warned the serving sizes are huge.  So either bring a huge appetite or better yet share.

Great neighborhood spot to pick up a decent coffee in the morning, grab an easy breakfast/lunch or sit down for a quick and seemingly healthy salad, panini, or mediterranean style dinner. They have several terrific and gigantic salads. I like the ahi, chipotle chicken, goat cheese, and greek options. Pretty decent panini's - the tandoori chicken one left me ooh'ing and ahh'ing the other afternoon and the rest of the dinner menu looks pretty good, though I haven't actually sampled it.

Only complaint would be they don't allow dogs. It's San Francisco, people, and your business backyard runs up against the most popular dog park in Cole Valley AND you have a beautiful patio that's oddly always empty. I bet you'd bump up your patronage if you let your patrons dine with Fido. I'm just sayin'.

Nice coffee shop with a very local feel, and system.  The lineup is simple enough... don't be surprised if people talk to you.  The front tables have a lot of friendly dogs... so don't be scared.  The rear patio is STUNNING.... it really is as relaxing, calm, and perfect a place to start a weekend morning.  There is a smoking section, so if you want to smoke you won't even have to worry about bothering others.  The food is solid... fresh and relatively quick, while still being a healthier and better tasting than divey diner food.  Hell I met Craig Newmark here once, and no one even cared it was him.... just a little local joint where people are going about their day.

I was in the neighborhood yesterday and stopped by for a quick bite and coffee. Nice little cafe with a patio in the back. I had a bagel with salmon with cucumbers, tomatoes, onion, and capers. It was pretty good. Coffee was not bad either. The only complaint was the service. The girl behind the counter was not particularly friendly and looked as if she'd rather be elsewhere. I was sitting near by and she just did not treat customers well. People like that should not be allowed near customers.

I used to live in the area and enjoyed visiting this place frequently on my way to or from the N-Judah.   They make a great espresso and their sandwiches and salads are remarkably tasty.  Try the chicken, pancetta and avocado sandwich. They also have a small beer and wine selection and an awesome, sunny outdoor patio which can be hard to come by in this neighborhood.

People have clearly been catching on to the brunch here (a Zazie alternative)  because the few times I have come in for coffee on a Sunday, it has been almost uncomfortably busy.  I do think this is a great casual place to hit with friends when you are on a budget but still want something decent to eat.

For such a small area, Cole valley has a plethera of brunch places to explore including Boulange de Cole, Crepes on Cole and Zazie which are all fabulous. Reverie is my personal favourite for two reasons:

1. Great outdoor seating area out the back where you can easily grab a table in the sun
2. The best eggs benedict in CV

They only take cash, so make sure you've got some on hand. On a sunny weekend, Reverie is packed, but you won't wait for over an hour like you do at Zazie. They have Tapatio to spice up your meal, great mochas and omlettes. Their fruit bowls are usually not ripe enough, so stick to the cooked breakfast which is well priced. The eggs are always cooked well, not super runny like they are at Crepes on Cole. They also have free internet access for those of us who never like to be disconnected.

Great little place in Cole Valley.  Sometimes I stop by coming right off of the N Judah and catch a quick and tasty meal.  They've got great breakfast food.  My only thing is that they don't take credit cards, just because sometimes I'm low on cash and all I have is a card and I can't eat because I don't have enough cash.

The back patio is a great place to lounge around, peaceful and nice to relax in.  Definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice little brunch place to entertain a friend or self at.

Although this place has the best coffee in the neighborhood, I'm not too fond of Cafe Reverie for hanging around and eating breakfast (see previous review). However, we came here for dinner recently and they knocked our socks off!  Enormous filet mignon for $14. It comes with mashed potatoes and this brown meat gravy sauce which I wanted to lick off the plate it was so good.

The place is empty on Friday evenings. It has great prices and it kicks the ass of every place nearby (when factoring in price). Service is *very* good and super friendly, but that's always true, even in the mornings.

Give it a try!

(Four stars for the evening experience, two stars for the morning, avg: 3 stars).

I love this place and wish it was closer to me, because I would totally make it my neighborhood cafe if it were. I love taking people here because they always fall in love with the fabulous food and the cute back yard / patio area. I love the piadinis as well! Can't go wrong here. Although, when it's cold out, I don't recommend dining outside, obvs!

The food is fresh and very food, the people friendly and helpful, and the vibe vibrant yet relaxed.  I adore this neighborhood cafe and am here often.   I especially enjoy eating in the outdoor patio area out back. The only downside is that it always takes quite a while to get your food out, so be prepared to spend 1.5 hours+ for brunch/lunch.  But if you're not in a hurry, it's phenom.

Quick tip, go there when the weather is nice so you can sit outside and enjoy the wonderfully quant and earthy patio.  Its funny because I had been to this place many times (I won't say how many for fear of embarassment) and never knew there was a patio.  I thought this was just your typical coffe shop, but I was undeniably wrong.

I've only had a few dishes because I like them so much I don't want to try anything else.  For breakfast I really enjoy the breakfast burrito, two people can share.  Also the goat cheese, artichoke salad is invariably appetizing.  OH and the hummus, mmmm, awww the hummus,  You must try!

Parking is few far and between but the muni train is half a block away!!

I've gotta admit - I had made the mistake of already having eaten when I met a colleague here for a work meeting. Damn. She ordered the brie sandwich and I've never seen something so beautiful and plentiful. She took home the 2nd half for dinner. Sauteed onions in there with melting brie. Does it get any better? And toss in a gorgeous green salad.

Me? I ordered a decaf americano and, again, this had to be one of the best americanos I've had ... not to dis on Blue Bottle, but this outdid theirs.

Then there's the atmosphere. Is it French? Not haughty enough and, yet, very classy but still comfortable.

I will return to Cafe Reverie, with my appetite.

As many of my reviews will show, I have recently been commenting on places that I have visited on first, second or third dates. It's pretty clear I am on a quest to find a "man-friend." I say "manfriend" because I do not want a boy. This is besides the point. I have taken a step back from looking for the dude right now, and started focusing on where this perfect man would take me on my ideal date. After a little research, I think it would have to be Cafe Reverie on a sunny, lazy, Sunday afternoon.

Reverie...it means daydream in French, and that's what it feels like when the weather is cooperating. The way the back patio furniture is nestled amongst the trees and plants transports you to a Mid Summer Night's dream. Ok, well maybe I exaggerate, but it's gorgeous out there. So serene and relaxing. Pair the atmosphere with any of their amazing menu items (I like their quiches, crab cake benedict, and the hummus plate is a total bargain and great to share) and perhaps a glass of sparkling wine or frosty brew, and you've got yourself the perfect afternoon. Who knows, maybe you'll even find the love of your life sitting across the patio, casually reading the newspaper and sipping his/her cappuccino. Hey, anything can happen in your "dreams."

P.S. Lost one star for being cash only

I have been on a major coffee kick lately and got a killer iced latte from Reverie. I love espresso and I love lattes. This place delivered a great drink. The espresso was smooth and flavorful. It wasn't bitter or watered down. The workers were fast, friendly, and extremely helpful. They also have a huge variety of killer pastries and muffins here.
One minus, they don't accept cards.... Something I didn't realize until I saw the white piece of paper on the register that states it. Thankfully i had some money on me. Come with cash.

Most people come to Cole Valley for brunch and wait an hour outside of Zazie for a table. I just laugh at them as I walk by, though, and head a block down to Reverie. Reverie serves delicious breakfast (quickly) and they have beautiful outdoor seating in back. Makes you want to stay all day.

I walked past this place for weeks on the way home from my train stop.

Diverse but small menu, my partner and I both ordered the chicken shwarma dish. Served with warm hummus, hot pita, and fresh veggies, it was a great plate! I also had a cold cider, which was cinnamon-y and earthy rather than sugary. My partner had an iced coffee that left something to be desired, but there were lots of choices and options to personalize your cup.

Pretty tiny tables that are better for coffee than eating in, so I'd suggest take-out.

Warning: The kitchen closes 1 hour before closing, meaning you can still get coffee but not order food.

I just love a cafe with a back garden/patio. I was pleasantly surprised to find so many seats! I can't wait to come back here in the summer. (The only downfall was a weird old hippy man yelling at the person he was sitting with, but then I went inside and it was warm and quiet.)

I am absolutely mad about reverie! As far a typical coffee shop fare goes, the food is some of the best I've had without being pretentious, too fancy, or too pricey. I love getting a cappuccino, one of their hummus plates, the tasty granola, or the generous bagel + lox plate and spending lazy Sunday mornings reading the paper on the back patio. The staff is always super friendly (I knew I'd made it to "regular" status when I was out of cash (one downside - cash only) and the person behind  the counter told me I could come back and pay later - which I did!).

extra star - I love any place where the small coffee is one of those 8 oz containers - the way it should be!

I used to live in Cole Valley and loved this place. I'd rather go to a local independent place with character, than some corporate coffee place. It was great that they started serving food several years ago, and I think they are doing better because of it. That means they stay open, but that also means the customer base expands. The atmosphere changes a lot depending on what day and what time of day you go here. Thumbs up for their mochas.

The staff have always been great to me.

FYI-Cash only, but there's an ATM in the laundromat 2 doors down where you can get cash.

They also display local artists on the walls, from painters to photographers. Check it.

They say diamonds are a girl's best friend, but for this lover of all things Sunday, it is all about a good patio, a solid soy vanilla latte and some great witty banter with a cute guy to warm my heart!

This place delivered on all counts and I will definitely be back. The outside patio was perfect and the way it's set up there are plenty of great spots to people watch in. The service was also great and I'm curious to try some of their food since what I saw coming out, like the steak salad looked really good. I settled on a croissant and it was light and yummy.

So if a neat little Cole Valley spot to grab a coffee before you head to Haight street for some economy supportin' is on your list, Reverie's got my vote.

You *could* hit Bambino's as a Zazie alternative, or you could go even more alternative with Reverie.  Not exactly a typical brunch place--more of a coffee shop whose menu decided one day to burst past all bounds of dainty propriety and spill over into pancakes, omelettes, and of course breakfast bagels and burritos.  Oh, and there's a big lunch cafe menu too, but I didn't really look at it.  (Cue Disco Stu: Breakfast Wes...likes Breakfast *menu*)

So yeah, it's all a rather crowded counter-ordering system (and they don't bring the food out to you either, so keep an eye out).  But the simple plates you get still hit the spot (in case you're still new to this "real" food idea: try the breakfast bacon bagel and you'll never go back to a McMuffin).  And as many reviewers have noted, the coffee is second to none.  But whatever you do, don't overlook the back patio, a multi-tiered affair with a babbling brook and the steam rising from coffee mugs like so many London chimneytops.  Seriously, I've seen my share of SF patios, and this is one of the best.

I had lunch there with two friends yesterday. My seared tuna salad was ok...would have merited a third star, had it not been drizzled with a mustardy dressing that was probably trying to be wasabi-esque, but just seemed like out of place mustard taste! The greens were fresh. It was served with those crunchy "points" of bread item, which I am completely over. If they had tasted at all good, I wouldn't have minded, but they were simply taking up space on the plate. The coffee was sub-par, and, (kvetch kvetch) I didn't like the long skinny shape of the interior. It looked like had it been a good day, the open air back patio would have been a good setting, and may have merited a third star just for the setting..

We've all done it, taken that first sip of coffee and made an involuntary sigh because you just took a sip of The Perfect Cup of Coffee. This happens to me almost every time I get a cup of coffee from Cafe Reverie. And what I like the most about Reverie is that their coffee sizes are TRUE coffee sizes. I know, in this Starbucks world a small is a large... but at Reverie a small cup of coffee is actually small!

Now if you have a little more time than I do most mornings try their breakfast bagel with spinach and eggs or if ya happen to be there on a weekend afternoon have the chicken panini & a beer (Yes, they serve beer - Take that Starbucks!) on the sunny back patio and if ya smoke, have no fear you can light up back there.

Dang, prices in the haight/Cole Valley Region are steep and this place is a prime example. I leave a cafe with a fruit bowl and a chai and end up paying $9? Fuck that! I went here on a calm and uncrowded Thursday afternoon. The place was a bit busy, but there were still plenty of seats. One star for outdoor seating.

Unfortunately my experience was somewhat maimed by the fact that the counter girl was unfriendly and even bitchy. I looked around at all the old white people and I didn't like that either - but hey I'm outta my place in the mission for awhile, no more $2.50 fruit bowls I guess. Problem is I can't justify paying so much for anything. $9 for a salad? What!? This isn't a high end restaurant, it's a cafe! C-A-F-E! Ehhh, mission district you ain't lookin' so bad now.

To be fair, I've only been here once.  But I was so impressed that I just had to write a review.

Apparently this place is pretty happenin' on weekend mornings.  Thank goodness I'm not a morning person.  The bf and I strolled in around noon and ordered fairly quickly. NOTE: they only take cash, so make sure to stock up with those green money-men before making the trip.  Get the eggs benedict.  I'm serious.  My mouth orgasmed a little at my first bite.  I thought The Original Pancake House in SD was delicious, but this blew it out of the water.  The ham is super thick cut and the hollandaise sauce is to freaking die for.

It's not waiter service - you stand in line to order, but then find seating inside or outside on the patio.  There's a decent amount of allocated space in comparison to most of SF establishments.  I think I almost broke my seat jumping up and down in excitement for my breakfast meal (yes, I do love breakfast that much), and it did not disappoint.  Next time in SF, you'll definitely see me here.  Wide-eyed and possibly a little droolly.

This is my first week living in this city, and I had first try at Reverie...lets just say I'll try and avoid it on Sundays at noon! Oh my ! :-0

Crazy packed. Which must mean they are doing something right.

I was really hungry and was intrigued by the menu, but felt bad that these guys are cooking their asses off!

so i stuck to a currant scone and a latte. That I must say the latte was made very well considering the conditions.

I'll have to come back tomorrow and check it out when it is slow.

btw these people with their strollers are so brave!!! I don't know how they do it!!

My bf really likes this place, so we walked up to Cole Valley for some breakfast. He got an order of hash, with eggs and potatoes and I got got the pancakes. Both dishes were really tasty and the pancakes were some of the best I've had in a long time. I really enjoyed their coffee as well.
They have a nice backyard patio seating area as well as a couple of tables out front. Seating inside is a bit limited.  The one down side is that they have no table service, but table service prices. And they only accept cash.
