I had the chance to dine at Cafe Provence on several occasions while living in VT, but the most memorable time was the dinner following my Middlebury graduation. We had a large party of 12 people and practically took over about 1/3 of the restaurant, which is set up like a quaint cafe that you'd find in the South of France.

While we're waiting for our food to arrive, a drunk diner wanders over to our table from the bar and asks us if we were at graduation that day. He looks at Erin R. "Were you the graduation speaker? You were really good." For the record, she was not. Nevertheless, he continued on and got so wrapped up in what he was saying that he just sat down in my friend Erica's seat while she went to the bathroom.

We find out that he's from Berkeley. Oh here we go... I'm from Berkeley. He says, "Oh do you know Stephanie Lee??? I'm a history teacher and she was one of my students. One of my best students... I got her into Haaarvard. I wrote her an excellent recommendation. She was a great violinist. You know, your people are quite talented. What are you? Chinese? You might be...::drunk pause:: the next... President."

::awkward pause/state of confusion::

Drunk man's wife signals for him to return to the bar. "Come on honey, lets leave these people alone and let them enjoy the rest of their dinner." Whew. My friend Erica can finally have her seat back.

Every meal I've eaten here, the food has been amazing. Some dishes you must try are the warm spinach salad, the seafood stew and the mussels. They really know how to cook their seafood and fish. For dessert, the chocolate bomb is a must and the crisps are good depending on the fruit in season.

In my two visits to Vermont this past year, I've made it a point to have dinner here with my family.  In both visits, the food and service were above par.  In fact, this has become my daughter's favorite restaurant since moving there.  She said it reminds here of the great restaurants in San Francisco.  That's saying something!
