Who you callin' a hookah? Seriously though, what a nice surprise on a tourist choked Sunday afternoon. Service was efficient & friendly, the menu fun (I really dug the chicken pesto sandwich, the mango/pear/peach smoothie was stunningly good and the baklava was ALMOST better than what my ex's Greek mother made - sorry Yia Yia...). A group was merrily puffing away on a hookah packed with apple & pineapple tobacco that actually IMPROVED my dining experience, something unheard of for second-hand smoke. Decent selection of sheesha and beginner to larger water pipes, too. The coffe & espresso selection was great, too. I highly recommend this comfortable hole in the wall for a pleasant lunch in between shopping bouts in the crafts market across the street. Hell, I even bought the t-shirt.

Service was excellent here. The owner and staff was very friendly. They also have some really nice outdoor seating.
Unfortunately, they must have had an off day, because the lamb gyro wasn't good. Will definitely go back when I'm back in Charleston. -

Really great drinks, like italian sodas, teas, and coffees - especially if you are a strong coffee drinker. Their regular coffee is very rich but a coffee addict like me could go a step further and get turkish coffee!! (I don't think you can get it anywhere else in sc) Well I love Turkish coffee, and it's made really well here, with the all the spices! There are 2 pistachio desserts there that are both amazing, the traditional baklava and the other one I forgot what you call it, it is round and less sweet/syrupy than baklava. That one is my favorite. My friend and I laughed about how the gyro reminds us of high school lunch, so that is my reason to give 4 stars. IN the nights of summer, this place is quite a spectacle. On the patio, There is belly dancing, tarot reading and i guess henna artists, camels, sword throwers and fire swallowers (jk but you never know!) You must go!

Bizarre little place run by a couple of Turkish guys. They rent and sell water pipes. I don't smoke, so I don't see the allure. No one was using them. Maybe just a stunt to attract attention? The chocolate cake was PURE EVIL (in a good way) and so was the baklava. Recommended.

I only had a midday coffee, but it was a pleasant escape from the monotonous insanity of "The Market." The staff was quick and friendly, and I felt like I could have stayed for a while if that was my intention. We quickly wandered on, but the caffeine and the memorable music stuck with us for a while.

This post is meant as an addendum to Laura's:
I have been to this establishment four times over the past year or so, and as recent as this summer hookahs have been available to smoke. They do not serve alcohol, but it is the best place to smoke hookah I've found in Charleston. Sitting at one of their outdoor tables while you watch the tourists pass by through a haze of smoke is wonderful. The owner of the place seems very knowledgable about and proud of his tobacco and has made me feel welcome every time I've come.
If you're looking for a place to relax and smoke hookah in downtown charleston, look no further. -

Yes, it's along the market, and it's a bit overpriced. But this cozy cafe just might brighten an otherwise grim stroll through the endless swarm of tourists. I haven't tried their sandwiches, though there are a few veggie options. It's probably the cheapest thing to eat for several blocks in all directions (unless you count Little Cricket). Service can be downright cold, but the coffee is hot hot hot. Middle Eastern music thrums from the speakers all day. They have a shelf full of hookahs in the corner (are people still allowed to smoke there?) and a courtyard for gawking at athletic socks + sandals and jorts walking by.

Hookahs(waterpipe), Turkish techno and Turkish coffee...a bit of Istanbul in the heart of Charleston...an excellent experience whether for the ambiance, coffee or tasty snacks. Both the Italian Wedding soup and hummus were very good. The proprietor seemed take special pride in making the coffe himself.
