Review from Marjie T.
I found Cafe Nura by Yelping "coffee shops" in Webster Groves. Besides Starbucks and Bread Co., this was the only other choice. So off I went to kill some time before a meeting. At around 1:30 on a Wednesday it was almost full. It's a pretty small space with the main room and then another smaller room off to the side. Everything in this place was super cute and charming. A smattering of tables, some comfy chairs, and a sofa make this a place you could hang out in for awhile. Plus there are magazines and even books for the people like me who show up with nothing to read.
I only got an iced tea, but their menu looks pretty good so I may be back for lunch some time. Their baked goods didn't overwhelm me, though. I think there were a couple types of muffins, maybe a scone or two? Not much of a selection. They also have their own private parking lot, which is a plus on that stretch of Lockwood. No one was smoking hookah when I was there, but I could see how that would be a major turnoff just because the place is so small. -

Eh, meh, gross.
I gave this place a try for lunch during the week and was disappointed. I had high hopes since it's in Webster and close to my work.
Where to start...
It was 12:30 and we were the only ones there for lunch (seemed odd to me). We ordered two sandwiches and it took over 20 minutes to make! These weren't even paninis and we were the only ones there. Just sayin'..
Also, on both of our plates, I found hairs!!!! They could have fallen off of the worker that had some serious facial hair (that's the gross part).
And to accompany the sandwiches, we were given a small side of pretzels. Not even good ones. This just spelled cheap.
Don't plan on going back. Sorry, I really tried to like it. -

Color me impressed! Or enchanted, blown away, sold for life...
Cafe Nura is the real deal, and it's absolutely what I already said, enchanting. Stepped in there this morning with a friend and couldn't believe I had never been! I was certainly missing out, and you probably are too. The gorgeous temps & weather made the experience even more special, and all the windows were open letting in an awesome breeze & tons of natural light. Nura is adorable, colorful, comfortable, warm... everything a coffee shop should be. The tables were filled with a wide variety of people, and you just feel at home the minute you walk in the door.
The best part of the visit (in my opinion) was at the register! The owner was working and she had her daughter there who proudly told me she was five years old. The little girl helped her mom take my order and she took my money and gave me my change back! Someone who looked to be her grandma came to pick her up a few minutes later, but it was so adorable and really special to see the hard-working, genuine family that's behind this place. My friend told the owner we were going to call the city on them for violation of labor laws, and he was in a suit, so for a second it caught her by surprise. We joke, we joke.
Despite a chalkboard menu FULL of different things to drink, I was having one of "those" mornings and just needed an americano, straight up and black. It didn't disappoint, and my friend was really happy with his chai coffee. I was double surprised when I saw all that they serve for breakfast and lunch! Nura is just racking up the points here... everything smelled so good. I'll update this review after I try the food, which I will do as soon as I can.
If you smoke hookah (not so much my thing) they have them, and they also do occasional poetry readings and things like that. Oh, and if you have an old umbrella or Christmas lights to donate for their patio, they'll give you a coffee on them. How cool is that? I can't wait to see this place at night.
There's a lot of aspects to Cafe Nura, but I'm going to mostly use them for a comfortable and charming spot to work during the day. I can't say enough great things. As they ask on their website, "why aren't you here right now?" -

There are those of us who fondly remember Webster Grove's brief & aberrant flirtation with the counterculture, comprised of a few wildly unconventional shops along Big Bend in Old Orchard. One shop in particular, Spectrum, offered some of us our first glimpse of the bits and pieces of gear used to experiment with higher experiences, shall we say. Pipes, bongs, papers, clips, black lights, posters, tie dyed panels, water beds, Grace wailing in the background about a hookah smoking caterpillar & burning incense merged into a rather sensorial & unusual experience for this conservative community.
A lot of folks automatically connect a hookah with marijuana & deviant behavior but its use is actually fairly widespread, legal & socially acceptable these days. Hookahs weren't invented for smoking mother nature. They were developed in 16th century India for tobacco. While Webster shows refreshing progress in licensing Cafe Nura, it also taps into its own long forgotten past. You see, Café Nura is a delightful hookah lounge & coffee shop recently opened by Remy Jared in Webster Groves, just east of the renovated Ozark Theater.
The first thing that strikes you is the building itself, quaintly settled in the heart of a rambling open space. The Café sports a painted brick exterior, windows across the front, colorful Adirondack chairs spread along a little concrete terrace, a lighted "OPEN" sign & the makings for a wonderful future patio on its east side.
Stepping indoors you are greeted by a warm vaulted ceiling, easily arranged wooden tables & chairs, colorful side chairs, local artwork & tiered shelves holding an intriguing collection of hookahs, from simple to more elaborate. Remy serves Mississippi Mud coffee which, by itself, gives you enough reason to make this a regular stop. Cookies, biscotti, snacks & the like are available.
Hookahs do not emit annoying sounds or second hand smoke into the surrounding air, allowing nonsmokers to enjoy themselves comfortably. And happily, Remy keeps a benevolent yet proprietary eye on things, making sure Café Nura is a relaxing experience for anyone of any age. (Hint: there are "playground" coffee shops in either direction - Starbucks in Old Orchard & STL BreadCo in Old Webster.)
Café Nura would be embraced in any neighborhood but is a revitalizing addition to this beautiful & utterly conventional township. Get on in there & welcome Remy & Café Nura to the local coffee shop scene. Stay long enough to sip her outstanding coffees & bask in her delightful attention. She welcomes suggestions from patrons & is quick to admit "this is a work in progress." -

They say the hookah starts at 2:30 or 45 or arbitrary time, but don't trust 'em. we got ours at 1 pm. we just asked politely. and then they put us in the back room. Chocolate gelato was a dream, self described brown (Indian) and beautiful woman behind the counter was more than accommodating (pretty sure she's married so if ur into that sort of thing don't really go totin' around here), hookah was little light on the puff but the flavor was good and we got to mess around with our own coals.
can't speak for the coffee and the food. if you don't like spritely lounge covers of efficiently morose songs (melt with you, love will tear us apart) then you might need to stay away -

Place is great. Don't let the hookah on the sign put you off, this is really a standard coffee shop, not a counterculture head shop... Feel and decor-wise, I like it lots better than Starbucks; it's got a softer feel inside, very welcoming.
It also feels good to support local business, and the people who run it are great. -

I am sad to say that it took me several weeks of this new little gem in Webster Groves being open to finally stop by and check it out. I'm happy to report that this is the cutest shop and a perfect place to relax, enjoy a cup of coffee, a yummy baked good from St. Louis' own Companion Bakery, and gear up for the day ahead! It is not very big, only a handful of small tables inside, more seating outdoors that I am anxiously awaiting this Spring! They even have free WiFi available, so perhaps this could be my new work space. The staff is super friendly, perhaps I could even persuade them to answer my calls and do some filing in said new work space? hmmm...
Being only a short walk away from my home, I plan on making this a stop off, after the drop off, of my little boy at school! I'm so happy I stopped in and can't wait to make this a regular morning coffee routine once the new school year begins! Welcome to the neighborhood new friends! -

I wish I could give this place a better review, but the don't know how to make coffee. I went to days in a row and the the coffee sucked (tasted like watered down day old coffee) both days, so I've given up on them. How can you call yourself a coffee house and not have good coffee? Why is there no where to get good coffee in Webster anyway? Sadly Starbucks is the only drinkable coffee around here.
:-(
The outdoor seating leaves something to be desired, they're on a great lot, why don't they take advantage of it. some real tables and chairs outside would go a long way. -

Super cute coffee shop and so close to home so I had to stop by to do some work and grab a snack and a coffee last week. I've been meaning to come by but just haven't. Very friendly staff who greeted me and helped me. I got a bagel with cream cheese and an iced mocha. They have a limited selection of sandwiches and salads, some vegetarian, which I would come back to try sometime. They have two small rooms, one of which has some couches and comfy chairs to hang out. I was disappointed that people were smoking hookah in there at 3pm. I am not a fan - it isn't as strong as cigs, but still bothers me and I don't want to be in a smoky room. I sat in the other room instead, but this might not always be possible. I understand this is part of their business but it did interfere with the coffee shop feel a bit for me. The coffee was good and the bagel too. I would come back again because I like to support local business but I wouldn't hang out there often because of the hookah smoke and might get take out instead.

I am a resident of Webster and have, for a long time, admired this cute little building on Lockwood that used to house a hair salon,I didn't expect a coffee shop to take over the space but was absolutely delighted to see one had and very intrigued at the idea that it was a Hookah Lounge as well.
I finally had the chance to stop in the other night.It was freezing out so it was a good excuse.The decor is a complete departure from the Salon that was there before it.The salon was very nice and looked like ...a salon.This looked like it had always been a coffee shop.The set up had changed completely with a long counter covered in decadent looking pastries and sweets. It was really inviting with shining wood floors,several wooden tables and chairs and beautiful tapestries and curtains warming up the room.Really comfortable. When I entered there were a few people sitting at tables and a group of three sitting at a table around a large Hookah talking,with tiny cups of expresso.There were also a couple of preschoolers sitting at a table playing on a computer {possibly the owner's family? not sure}
I ordered a Chai tea and it really was one of the best Chai teas I have ever had.It was really rich, perfect.I didn't indulge in any sweets...but only because Christmas is coming up and I knew I'd be going overboard during the Holiday season.I'm totally excited about the free Wi-Fi and will be back often.I think it will be a great place to bring in my 5 yr old for a hot chocolate too.I have, for a long time, detested the fact that Starbucks was the only coffee shop in Webster...yuck.I am SO happy that this place opened! -

I really like this spot. The atmosphere is homey, family and friends oriented. The owner is super friendly. My wife and I agree that the coffee is about the best in St. Louis. They use Mississippi Mud beans and know what to do with them. I like the international flair, including decoupage tables of international travel. Lots of good baked goods, and they have just added a gelato cart -- we haven't tried it yet, but it looks good. A great little place to relax.
