This place is a gem!
Convenient parking, friendly staff and yummy, yummy food. I believe our waitress was the owner or something close to it. She took pride in being a great server. I didn't even have to request crispy bacon, she asked me! You had me at "Crispy Bacon?".
If you love breakfast like I do, this place is perfect. -

The 2 stars was for convenient parking and service.
And the service was questionable because we were only one of two tables in the restaurant. (that should have been my clue at 10:30 in the morning on a Friday!)
The food is ok. Not creative, not extensive, bland.
When we were given a complimentary fruit plate at the end of our meal, the waitress reprimanded us for not finishing it. Not good!
Last, I felt the up-charging for every little extra was cheap.
I will not return to the restaurant. -

We have been going here for quite a while now and never wrote a review. Mostly because we didn't want other people to know about it. Now that there are some reviews (and some of them not good!) I thought I'd add my own $.02.
If you are in a rush, this isn't a place for you. It's not always super slow, but it's not stacks or some fast food place. This is a place you come and read the paper or just relax. The menu is simple and clean. One of the best things here is the atmosphere and the owners who are always there to greet you
They have what you would expect from most breakfast places and they do them pretty well. The french toast and waffles are great. The omelettes are pretty good too, especially with prosciutto. With fresh squeezed OJ, you can't go wrong.
I don't come here for the lunch, but the rest of the family likes their sandwiches. There is more prosciutto and lots of brie to be had.
The only downside is they are a little pricey, especially for their drinks. Overall, we love going here and it's one of the top places on our list of breakfast spots. -

Had breakfast there yesterday. Excellent hashbrowns with a couple of over-easy eggs. Turned on my iPad to check email and had a preview of SHN's Spamalot. There was one other patron in the cafe and I considered whether playing it would disturb him but the overhead music system was playing semi-raucous tunes so thought it would be ok. I was 23 seconds into a 60-second promo when the owner's wife asked, with a rude tone and phrasing, if I would turn it off because "this is a public restaurant". I did turn it off but will not be back again.
Decent food, rude owner. -

Review from Dan B.
Mossant Cafe is a slightly uspcale, tidy and bright place with nice woodwork, plants, a sparkling clean coffee bar, and a tasteful set of display cases with jewelry for sale. The breakfast menu is very basic: eggs combos, omelettes, oatmeal, pastries, French toast.
The crowd here is older and more dressed up than most breakfast places. Consequently, this is not the ideal place to reminisce about last night's partying or to recover from a hangover; It's more like a place to discuss your family or your golf score.
I had to ask for coffee twice to get it. It took about 5 minutes to arrive; Such a simple thing, yet SO important. When it arrived, it was fine; Nothing to crow about.
I ordered the egg combo: 2 eggs over-medium, hash browns, rye toast, sausage for $7.45 The plate was nicely prepared and presented, though my eggs were closer to over-easy. Price was pretty good considering my surroundings.
The biggest issue here is slow service. After the slow coffee, my food took 20 min; The check took another 10 after I asked. My empty plate sat on the table too long.
3 stars is all they get.Listed in: Wakey, Wakey, Eggs and Bacey

I had some French toast and bacon here. The French toast was ok, very straightforward, maybe a little overcooked. The syrup was heated which is always nice. The bacon was cooked perfectly. It was not at all busy, very quiet, and the service the service was good. The food came out quickly, so it was a great place if you want to sit down but don't want to be there a long time. My only gripe is that there is really very little food for the price. They could throw in an egg with the meal and it'd be a lot more satisfying.
The cafe is large and open. It's nicely decorated and clean. The chairs were comfortable and on wheels which made getting up and down easier. -

The service is awful! Sooo slow and they always get something wrong! The signature waffles could easily be beat by ones made at home with Bisquick! Small portions for the high prices. Stick to Alanas in Redwood City!

totally awesome place for breakfast. have never had lunch there, but that must be wonderful, too.
the owners are delightful - friendly and so eager to please. the food is fresh and delicious. parking is easy. interior is bright and sunny. all-around a 'happy' place.
my husband loves their sausage - fat and scrumptious. i love their bacon, thick and so tasty. we have long searched for a breakfast place which is consistently good and we are happy with cafe mossant - even though we have to drive a bit further than other breakfast places closer to home. -

The food used to be better. The service is a train wreck. The owners could have a smashing business if they double their staff (kitchen and wait) immediately.
Here are some other concrete ideas. Focus on getting orders in immediately. You are just throwing away time by letting me sit with no order placed. On my onion and cheese omelette: make it caramelized onions. The al dente ones I had were not very good. And even white button mushrooms are interesting when properly browned (leave in pan, don't stir for a few minutes). I loved my previous hash browns, but the most recent was way too crisp. You need more help in the kitchen. More wait staff....
Invest in your business. I will come back and review it again.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Stopped in twice this week after hearing about it.
First trip was for lunch. Salad Nicoise for me, tuna sandwich for my lunch pal. Both very tasty with multiple comments on their vinaigrette dressing.
Second trip was solo for breakfast. Excellent french toast with fresh strawberries. Well battered pieces with a moist and "eggy" interior and well-browned exterior.
The space is airy and bright. Lots of space between tables. Portions are good. Prices are reasonable. Service was pleasant.
A good spot - will be back. -

I really hate to give this place two stars because the people who work here are so nice, but the food was just wrong. They get two stars only because they're nice people and they gave out Sharfenberger chocolates at the end of the meal. They've earned their extra star.
When we visited mid-day Saturday, the place was fairly empty. We were seated promptly by the window. I noticed that the seats had wheels on them which entertained my ADD-self for about 23 seconds. Then, I looked at the menu. It was sparse, but the place is a cafe that also serves food, so I didn't mind. They had a few basic breakfast items. I decided to order their "creme cheese and avocado omelet" -- with cheddar cheese instead of the creme cheese.
Ok, so they got the order wrong. They brought it out with cheddar cheese, avocado, AND creme cheese. The waitress apologized... eventually. The owner? Chef? also came out and also apologized. That wasn't such a big deal, I've had my order screwed up at places I like, so I'd be willing to let that go, but then...
They served rock hard avocado. In my omelet and on my boyfriend's burger.
And I can't let that go.
My omelet was small and unimpressive otherwise.
Maybe their lunch menu is better. I do think this place is cute and has potential. It's a great place to come get a coffee and read a paper solo. Not exactly the best choice for breakfast in town. -

We love this place. The salads are fresh, the omelets and french toast to die for. The owners and staff really care if you are happy and make sure we're happy with the food and service. We come here a lot for lunch and brunch on the weekend, and whenever we bring friends, they like it too.

Review from Karen S.
On Sunday morning we stopped here for Breakfast on a whim. Stacks looked crowded and I didn't feel like waiting.
I have certain criteria that must be met for my breakfast experience to be a good one.
1. Keep my coffee cup full, if the cup is half empty it will get cold and cold coffee is not so tasty.
2. If I'm eating breakfast out, I want something better or different than I can make at home. So make it great.
3. Service is key, ask how things are or if I need anything else, but don't hover.
So, despite the great atmosphere, this place was mediocre at best.
1. My coffee got cold. I nearly had to stand up to get the attention of the waitress. Not okay.
2. The food was okay. At the suggestion of the waitress I tried their amazing French toast. The burnt butter taste did add to it's taste, but not in the oh my gosh this is the best French toast ever kind of way I was expecting. If you are going to say something is the best, it had better live up to it!
3. The service was okay. I go back to the cold coffee... it's not that difficult to keep a coffee cup filled or bring extra napkins when requested.
Additionally, the tables are sort of close together. So the family behind me was really cute until their young child started to yell. Then it got really loud. Fortunately the mother took the child out (thanks mom) and whacked her chair into mine. I nearly choked on my burnt butter French toast.
I won't come back. -

I have to question any rating past 2 stars here on http://yelp.com . I went here with a couple family members a week ago and no one enjoyed their meal. Overpriced, lukewarm breakfast. There was a baby crying the whole time and the owner kept feeding it some oatmeal. Very distracting.
Dirty bathroom too. Going into detail would be too much, and when I notified the owner, she glared at me, saying nothing.
I will not be back. I tried to give Mossant a chance, but I fear this business and the quality of food will meet a proper demise in 2009. -

I moved to Belmont in December and I was very VERY sad.... I left my favorite breakfast place behind and have been on the hunt ever since to find something in the area that I like so that tears don't well up every single Saturday morning at the thought of my old "spot".
Well, I've now been here twice. And although it doesn't compare to my old place, yes.... I'm jaded.... I do love this place! That prosciutto, brie and truffle oil sandwich blew me out of the water! They didn't skimp on the truffle oil and the bread was fantastic. I will be back for this one for sure! Sunday we went for brunch and I had an omlette with cream cheese and avocado. It was a large portion for sure. I'm not sure if they started making them bigger since the other reviewers complained about the size...
Also, just to win them another added star, they refilled our beers and mimosas for free! Can't beat that!! -

A big fan of vintage French poster art, I had to stop by... I love the French hat manufactures posters so when I saw Mossant that was it! Surprisingly the owner said I was the first to get the name.
I had a yummy chicken salad sandwich. It was imaginative, I can't recall the ingredients as it's been a little while... I'm trying to catch up on my reviews.
I think it would be a great place for lunch if you are in Belmont sometime. -
Review from Janel Y.
My friend and I were starving after our yoga class and on the way to a different brunch spot, we passed by and wanted to take a peek so we U-turned and headed in to take a look at the menu.
Once in, you'll see the menu on a wall chalkboard. There are tables to the right and left of you. Seat yourself and be careful of the chairs! They have wheels and you could easily slip in the chair and roll to someone else's table.
Service was great, very friendly and warm, as well as attentive, asking my friend if she wanted a refill on her coffee at least 4 times. I ordered their waffles with mixed berries ($6.95) and my friend ordered poached eggs with bacon and it came with a side of hashbrowns and an english muffin ($7.45).
We learned that they've been open for about a year and there's FREE wifi!! The food was okay, I'd skip the waffle and poached eggs (both over cooked) and I'd definitely come back to try something else. Price is definitely reasonable for the Peninsula.
They also sell jewelry in two different cases and on the menus, they write about a hat maker named Mossant, hence the hats and name of the cafe. -

I came the first time by accident and love the ambiance and the genuine concern of the hostess about making sure our experience here is enjoyable. The hostess recommended the French Toast so we both ordered it. When it arrived, it was light and fluffy and delicious. I like the open space and find it a good alternative to the typical diner-like breakfast joints.
I came back today to try another breakfast meal and was treated like royalty and being waited hand and foot. In a way, I'm reluctant to give a great review in fear of not having a table when I come, but with such great experience twice in a row, I bet I'll be back sooner than later. -

Came across this place by chance. My husband and I were suppose to go to Hobbees for our usual Saturday morning brunch -- Hobbees was very crowded that day and so we decided to try another place/cafe/diner. After driving for a while in the Belmont area we stumbled upon this place. The place was crowded -- we thought it could be because of Mother's day! After half an hour we were seated -- the service seemed slow and not efficient. We learnt that they had just opened a year ago and were still learning the ropes of business. Also, it seemed like the people who ran this place was a Persian family -- they seemed nice!
We ordered a veggie omelet that came with hashbrowns and 2 slices of toasted bread and coffee -- the omelet took a long time. The omelet was good nothing fancy. The size was average. All in all the food was tasty!!! Felt like a home made meal.
For those looking for a fancy Sat brunch you may get disappointed with this place. But if you are looking for some simple, nice cafe/diner that offers home made food at reasonable prices try this out. -

What a great little restaurant! But I can't say that I would go back here again...
We ordered a omelet with avocado and cream cheese, the veggie fritatta sandwich, and a mocha, and everything was excellent. I have to single out the frittata sandwich for it's awesomeness. (The omelet combination was a little unusual, and I can't say it was my favorite, but the omelet itself was light and fluffy.) But there were so few items on the menu which were vegetarian, and that makes me sad :( Which is why I won't be going back there again.
The owners were very nice and friendly. But I didn't get no Scharfenberger chocolates at the end of the meal. -

Have you ever had a craving for a good Belgian waffle with strawberries that wouldn't go away? I had been looking for a good Sunday morning breakfast place with charm that I could count on having this dish on the menu and found it in Cafe Mossant.
It is a clean and comfortable place and parking was easy. I would definitely come back and try some of the other menu items. -

Café Mossant is a great little place to languish over breakfast with friends or family. The decor is nice (love the wheeled chairs), the views are as good as one can get along El Camino in Belmont.
But it's the staff that what makes this place very promising. It is still a new business but the owners (who we met and spoke to briefly) are laser focused on getting the experience right. They're already very good in the decor and selection of foods. We experienced a spotless dining room and restroom.
What I would change (reference to Seinfeld wanting to change Baboo's restaurant) to get the 5th star making the menu more upscale. The venue supports a move towards more organics and more exotic fare. This could be a nicer version of Burlingame's Crepevine - a long-time favorite of ours. I would also like to see it open for dinner. Belmont has very few good eateries and I'm tired of the drive to San Carlos and San Mateo etc.
I am optimistic this place will only get better. They have a terrific foundation and it has legs. -

Good food! Good coffee! Could do with a little faster service and more butter on my toast but the service is so friendly. You really feel like you are part of the family - I could sit here and sip coffee, chat and look out this window all day!

I went here with a friend a couple of days ago, and was quite pleased. I had the french toast, and she had the ceaser salad with chicken. Both were quite tasty, and satisfying.
The service was incredibly friendly, and I'd be absolutely delighted to go back there.
I'm not terribly surprised that the reviews for this place are all over the map, as they seem to be fairly new, and still working out the process. My visit was great, but I can see why it might not have been so smooth in the recent past. -

I have breakfast at Mossant Cafe at least once a week and really enjoy starting off my day there. The owners and wait staff are delightful and do their best to ensure that you enjoy your meal. I find the abbreviated menu to be a refreshing change, and it results in food of high quality, so they are obviously trying to focus on doing a few things well. And the prices are very reasonable to boot.
For breakfast I highly recommend the fresh-squeezed orange juice and french toast for a light and tasty way to start the day. The eggs have always been perfect (over medium) and they ask you how you prefer your bacon. My only request would be for coffee that is more robust (French Roast perhaps?) but that's a personal preference, and considering the wonderful ambiance and relaxed pace, I give them 5 stars. Cheers! -

Came here way back when they first opened. Had a prosciutto sandwich and realized that there was a familiarity about it that you don't find in most sandwiches of this type. There was truffle oil! The owner was surprised that I could spot that and we got into a conversation on our love of food. Too bad I don't work in the area anymore as I'd like to try a few other items now that I know they put in little details that make ordinary foods a bit more special

Like the other reviewers, I hate to give a local mom-and-pop cute breakfast/lunch joint a bad review. But the breakfast dishes (omelets and 2 Eggs & Hashbrown) were small in portion and less than impressive in flavor. The servers/owners are so nice in that they came by at least 5 times asking whether we are enjoying our meal or not. However, the service was slow as we had waited about 10 minutes to place the order when there were only 3 other tables and about 20 minutes to get our check. 1.5 stars at best.

We came here again for Brunch and I had an even better meal. First of all, let me say that there Mimosas are to die for! Fresh squeezed OJ (they did it while we watched) and they didn't skimp on the champagne. mmm, so tasty. They also came by at the end of out meal with a plate of fresh fruit as dessert on the house! I wanted to give them a big thanks for making this Sunday brunch very memorable. :)

I live about a mile from Cafe Mossant, and just went for the second time yesterday. You know how the second visit to a place you liked often disappoints, because you must have ordered just the right things the first time, or your expectations are now too high? I actually liked Mossant even better the second time.
This time I had the Fritatta sandwich, and it was amazing. I plan on getting it again, and again, as it rocked. However, the omelettes are great as well (better than the Omelette House down the street despite it basing its name on the dish), as is the coffee and the juice (which they press after you order it).
As a previous reviewer mentioned, the service is great -- personal, warm and wanting to make your visit good. I really hope this remains even after they are no longer a new restaurant, and get more busy. Moreover, I have appreciated how both times I have visited, they have asked for input on how they could be even better, and paid close attention to the answers. That is the right attitude, but you don't see it enough elsewhere.
The atmosphere is also good, as the large glass windows bring in a lot of light, and the Ottamar Liebert-style music is soothing (although I may eventually get tired of it). The only negatives I can think of are that they have a somewhat limited menu still (but I think that will grow over time) and that they are closed Mondays (which seems totally reasonable, but I am craving having a Fritatta sandwich, and they are not there to fulfill it!). -
