Review from Eric G.
My friend and I were looking for a quick place to grab lunch today, so we stopped in Cafe Metro. We both got the create-your-own salads and I was pleased. It's a fixed price of $7.99 for a ton of toppings (good ones, too). DIdn't have to wait long at all either.
Their sandwiches and wraps looked pretty good as well. I'd definitely come back here for lunch. -

Religiously, I visit this place every morning for breakfast with my buddy from the office. LOVE their coffee! it is always freshly brewed. There are several breakfast and lunch stations here. For Breakfast, I enjoy their egg whites whole wheat wraps with avocado or their multigrain muffins (morning glory is my TDF here) toasted with a dab of butter! YUMS. Try their tropical breeze or berry crush fruit smoothies with a shot of whey protein, you'll love it!
For lunch: Salad station ROCKS!!! grilled shrimp, mixed greens, avocado, parmesan cheese, cucumbers and a dash of any dressing! MY FAVE... You can make your own or try one of their selections. The sandwich station is OK here. In my opinion, thier best sandwiches are: Three cheese caprese (mozzarella, provolone and swiss, plum tomatoes, fresh basil and sun dried tomato spread). Cajun Chicken (spicy cajun chicken, pepper jack cheese, roasted peppers, onions w/chipotle pepper spread). Chicken calabrese is good too. Pizza section: try their quattro formaggi...a little on the salty side but TOTALLY delish!!! Sante Fe wild mushroom quesadilla amazing as well.
The location of this cafe is excellent conveniently located in the McGraw Hill building, right next to the NYSC and the Rock Center concourse!
Seating is limited in the winter...great outdoor seating in the summer! -

Overpriced for small portions but it's under the office which makes it ideal for lazy days.
MAKE SURE YOUR SOUP SIGNS HAVE "P" ON THEM IF YOU'RE GOING TO CHARGE PREMIUM PRICES. -

They've catered quite a few lunches at various offices for which I've worked and have always been consistent and high quality. The platters always arrive ready to present, the food always tastes fresh, and everyone always seems quite pleased. I can't comment on the price since I wasn't footing the bill. But, from the consumer standpoint, I can recommend them for your catering needs.

I eat here almost everyday for lunch.. no joke. Salads are absolutely AMAZING! shrimp is a little salty.. I also love their pizza.. bbq chicken is the best. Their hot dishes/entrees are great, but the chicken can be dry once in a while.

Average but definitely a convenient and popular lunch spot.
They have a half sandwich with a small soup lunch deal. I've tried a few different paninis/sandwiches here and it's a hit or miss. Salads are great because it's a set price with as little or as many toppings as you like. Free bread with salad/soup/sandwich at the cashier. Sometimes they ask you if you want it, ask if they don't (they forget sometimes).
Staff fast and friendly. Limited seating during peak lunch hours. -

Standard deliteria that has a nice outdoor seating area that's somewhat insulated from 6th Ave and it's accessible underground via the extensive Rockefeller Center underground walkway b/w 47th and 50th street.
They do a good job w/ personal pizzas. The make your own pasta is so-so - I recommend Variety Cafe or Bocca for that. They have other things - make your own salad, sandwiches, etc. but its par for the course.
They must provide good kickbacks for catering b/c we seem to use them a lot and the only other rational explanation is that their mediocrity insures no one overeats. Their cookies and mini-canolis aren't bad though :)Listed in: Midtown West Lunch

Ugh, what a disappointment.
My chicken sandwich was heated in a Subway-style oven and served in a small, unnecessary box. The sandwich itself was all bread and no filling. At almost $7, I was upset I just didn't go to Subway and enjoy a footlong instead.
This place is definitely beneath the Cosi, Pret and local deli lunch spots of the city. Would not return... -

OK, so this is one of the other Cafe Metro's I have been to on my pilgrimage to review and compare them all (3 I can so far compare-see my other reviews).
This one is a little more hustle and bustle than the one on 52nd street. Same menu except they have an entree section that the others I have been to don't have. I did get the entree a nice salmon dish with fresh roasted veggies and rice.
The customer service was friendly but less conversational and it was fast and professional.
All in all, this one was a good stop off and I recommend it.

I registered for yelp today just so I can write about how disappointed I am with this place. Perhaps all metro locations have the same issue of poor nutritional info. My office is just above so I go to cafe metro a lot. I must say that most of the time people go there because it's convenient. I purchased a tuna salad today and on the cover, the label read 12oz, 187 calories. However, their website states 6oz, 187 calories. http://www.cafemetrone...
I mean seriously, that's twice the amount!! Deceiving, deceiving!! I'm so angry that I just realize this today.
Also, the Tuscan Vegetable soup - there are a ton of corn starch use to thicken the soup. How could there only be 11g of carbs? http://www.cafemetrone...
Needless to say, I won't be going here much more. -

If you work near Rockefeller Center or in the McGraw-Hill Building at 1221 6th Ave., it's too easy to come here for lunch: it's in the concourse, for God's sake! An escalator ride away. Snow and rain have nothing on Cafe Metro...
That said, you will pay for convenience. Like it's kin Pax Deli, Cafe Metro is more expensive than your indy soup & sandwich place, and it's not uncommon for a "simple" lunch of soup and sandwich to top $10. Nevertheless, Cafe Metro has everything from a build-your-own salad bar to pasta bar, sandwiches and soups (an amazing variety of each), a hot entree bar (with changing options daily, some of which look pretty darn good), and my favorite, a quesadilla bar, where your choice is made fresh-to-order in Cafe Metro's very own mini pizza oven. Well.
Breakfast is also a smorgasbord of options: french toast? pancakes? waffles? egg sandwiches? yogurt parfait? smoothie? Yes, they're all here and available freshly made. Don't want to wait for a custom anything at lunch or b'fast? Choose from the pre-packaged goods that line the refrigerated shelves.
This particular Cafe Metro has outdoor seating in the mezzanine level plaza of 1221 6th. In warm weather, it's a nice change of pace to take a moment to people watch from the small cafe tables. -

Very Pax-like, typical salad, sandwich and pasta place. Simply nothing special. Fewer ingredients for make your own salad than most places, and a little pricier. I mean, come on, $3 for a Vitamin Water??? They're $1.75 downstairs in my building. Get real.

Cheap breakfast. Got two people a HUGE breakfast for 1/4 of the cost (I am sure) of the Hilton Hotel places to eat. I really do love the little cafes and deli's here in NYC and how the are sooooo much better and more affordable then the main stream hotels.

Cafe Metro is just like all the other chain "gourmet" lunch places, like Pax and Au Bon Pain, even the few Seattle Cafes in the city. You can get a salad, soup, pasta, or a sandwich. Everything looks fresh and is prepared quickly. It's just so convenient. I probably visit the pasta bar twice a week now (especially on Friday, since that is Pasta Day and the price is lowered to $5.99. It's not a bargain, but it's good food. Beware the crowds during the 12:30-1:30 rush.

Employees are friendly. Food is good. I have pretty much had almost everything that they sell and haven't been disappointed yet! Food kinda of pricey for lunch compared to other places I have been to but its easy to get to, especially that I work in the same building.

I went here for a quick breakfast, and was disappointed. the omelette tasted really bland and my hot chocolate was not hot at all. in fact, i think they poured cold water on it instead and did not stir it properly so the chocolate powder accumulated at the bottom of my cup. not impressed.

nothing great - nothing wow - $12 for a salad and a tea - um - yeah - kinda pricey - but that's what you get when you pay by the item for a salad - and who likes plain lettuce? it is what it is - you get what you expect. just average. humdrum. fitting for the area - haha.

Slightly pricey pasta. Above what I'd usually spend on a quick meal out, but it will do in a pinch. Especially when you consider what it could cost you to eat out in this part of town.
