Review from Andrea S.
The only reason I'm writing a review of this location is because the workers were so exceptionally nice.
All I wanted was a buttered roll to tide me over for the afternoon. What I ended up getting was a buttered bagel and compliments and smiles and friendly conversation from three separate people. This. Never. Happens. Everyone working here was energetic and excited about what they were doing.
The manager was out front making sure everything was running smoothly and everyone was taken good care of. He told me to let him know if anything is ever amiss. They were actually out of rolls but were so apologetic and helpful in making another selection.
I felt like I was in the twilight zone. Which is sad when you think about it. The norm in these types of establishments in unfrieldly and robotic service. This is definitely not the case here! -

The only reason I will ever go to Cafe Metro on 57th Street is because it's under my office building.
The employees there are nice, but they move too fast. They get orders wrong, prices wrong, coffees wrong.
They fill up my coffee so high every day that it spills all over me and I have to dump half of it on the street outside. This has happened over 15 times. It's ridiculous.
There is also a manager there who does not work behind the counter, helping, but instead stands in the way of people trying to order and leave. It's rush hour and he is in the way (it's a small place). He also just talks to everyone (usually just the females). It's uncomfortable, inconvenient, and annoying.
Lastly, their prices are ridiculously high. It's just not worth giving them your time or money. -

Came here with my mom after going to the doctor tasty delight after being dragged out of my bed soooo early in the morning. The cooks (I suppose they are called ) were soo nice :-) they brighten up my morning even more and they were also patient while I decided what I wanted to eat.
My mom got a cinnamon raisin bagel with walnut cream cheese yum. I got
1. pancakes (they appeared to be cooked but once the syrup started to run out I noticed that that had not been what was making it soggy they just were not cook all the way through. I do not know what the rush was giving than there was not one else waiting for pancakes and I was definitely not in a rush but hey)
2. eggs(they were supposed to be scrambled but I suppose beggars cannot be chooser. at least he did put the cheese on it that I requested) and 3. bacon (not cooked all the way that I wanted it but I think that it was precooked and just reheated)
Now after hearing all of this you are probably wondering why I am giving them 4 stars WELL they are right next door to the doctor so they get a star for convenience . Then they get another star for cleanliness (it is next to godliness). A third star for the service it was great and the finally star is for the price and the food. The food is not expensive but I would not give a full star for that since breakfast anywhere is usually reasonable and the food was eh half a star clearly. I have had salads from C.M but not this location. -

I've been coming here for lunch for quite a while now (mostly for the salads and great pasta special for lunch on Fridays)... however I strongly recommend spending your money elsewhere at this point. Like another reviewer, I thought the service here was great, most everybody was very friendly. However, they've recently done a pricing restructure and it's rather absurd for.
What typically used to be averaging around $7-8 for a meal is now breaking $12, with more and more frequency towards frozen centers of sandwiches, tomatoes, meatballs, etc., smaller portions, and in general, less food for more $ (a pasta now starts at $5.99 - which includes 3 choices of pasta (3 more are available if you add $1), and a selection of sauces (also some of which can add $1), additional toppings are available, though sparse and costly (5 tiny meatballs for $2.25, mozzarella for $1, veggies for $.50 each).
Most disappointing is their tactics for price restructuring. Rather than inform regulars or guide a customer through the order process, they were simply silent until at the register about cost until it was too late to change your mind. -

Wow! Why is this place so awesome?
The BEST salad bar ever. If you want to be very healthy, it's really not hard here at Cafe Metro.
They have one of those salad bars where it's set up exactly how Subway is, except with salad: you choose from different kinds of lettuce and then a large variety of beautifully fresh toppings and then dressings. After you give the instructions as to how to "build" your salad, they mix it together for you and voila! You have a beautifully healthy salad ready on the go. It's FANTASTIC that they have tofu and everything!
So ideal for a vegetarian like myself!
Of course, besides the salad bar, they have a large variety of sandwiches, ranging from classic subs to healthy pita wraps. Plus panninis! And then they have an incredibly tempting bakery with cakes, pies, muffins, you name it.
There's really something for everyone here.
And not only were the people working there extremely helpful, but very polite and friendly. AND incredibly fast service.
Truthfully a wonderful place, it's too bad there's not one in LA. -

OK. It's not really fair for me to review Cafe Metro. Here's why: I only ever get one thing there!
That doesn't seem quite fair to either the restaurant or (even more) to you (reading this review).
I come here almost every time I go to a recital at Carnegie Hall. It's convenient and quick. For the location, the price is reasonable.
What do I have every time? A salad. You choose yourself what to have in it (they do pasta the same way). I often have buffalo chicken, blue cheese, celery, cucumbers, kidney beans, croutons, and blue cheese dressing. Really tasty.
Their iced tea is outstanding as well.
Though the other reviews mention poor service, I've always had quick, friendly service.
Is it worth going out of the way for? No. But it's a great location for Carnegie Hall, provides good tasting food, and (in my experience) great service. -

Formerly Pick-A-Bagel which is now Café Metro. The bagels are not a great selection or soft consistently with regard to quality as compared to the renowned H&H Bagel. For lunch it's a nasty bill of $10.50 with drink, sandwich, and hot entree. The customer service is mediocre as they're always a line which patrons are never served attentively prompt with professional courtesy. One muffin is priced at $6.00 which tasted very bland beyond a dried-up pond; and one toasted bagel with butter or any toppings is priced at a nasty $5.00.
Extremely overpriced and of course, overrated. Not worth it buddy! -

My favorite cafe metro. Staff is cool. Best sandwiches. After working out in the area I always pop in for lunch or before a meeting, breakfast here is a cinch. The cashier lady I keep forgetting her name is always lovely! :)

Terrible Eggplant Parm Panini - the rosemary bread was beyond dry, and the eggplant simply had no flavor. It was also an $8 sandwich. That's what really irked me - that something that horrible tasting cost so much more than it had any right to cost.
It's not worth it to me. -

Breakfast food here is terrible. The cafe latte I had was so bad, didn't have the coffee taste! I had to toss it. And, it was expensive!! The small latte alone cost me almost $5. Never mind the cost but, it tasted really bad! The egg with ham and cheese wrap was so plain and if I was not hungry, I would have tossed that too. Lastly, I didn't know that vitamin water there would cost $4.99
Definitely won't go back. -

Just came in and spent over eight dollars on two drinks (the small size). When I'm spending 4 dollars on a small latte I expect exceptional customer service. Not only did the cashier not wait for me to give her change, she angrily slammed down my two pennies into her drawer. What's your problem? Better fix your customer service skills if you want to stay alive in a high end part of manhattan. Drinks were however very tasty.

I tried this place for the first time. They have just what I am looking for. Their metro philly steak and cheese sandwich and metro chicken noodle soup are savory and delicious. Also, they have many varieties of sandwiches, wraps, paninis, soup, etc.
Just the right portion for the right price! Cafe Metro's food is not too heavy, which I definitely enjoy for good and healthy lunch. -

...And in my never ending quest to hit every Cafe Metro in NYC, I hopped the train to check out this "mini- me" version of Metro on 57th Street. It's a small spot compared to the others (they call them satellite locations according to the manager) but all the elements are there.
First off the customer service was terrific. This cashier, Pinar, was so bright eyed and friendly as she invited me over to pay for my goodies. It was a Wednesday and I had gotten the salad. I had no idea that on Wednesday, it's a buck off the salads. She was all bubbly and in a thick, almost Slavic accent, she exclaimed "Oh this salad looks so nice! You get a dollar off it today!"
I thought it was just cause I had built a nice salad but, alas, everyone was getting the discount (sweet).
You would have thought this a tourist spot, but is was actually quite the opposite. Very neighborhoody.
So, if you work in the area, check this one out! Wednesday, $1 off Salads and the manager Sammy (works the place like a fine floor captain at a fancy sit down place) told me that Friday is $1 off Pastas.

had a full breakfast meal for $4.99 around 10:55am, so close to the end. there was so much bacon, poatoes, fresh eggs, and it was very delicious. generous portions, great service.
we also had a coffee, a latte, an cafe au lait, and the coffee was great!! -
Review from amanda d.
Their bagels are weak, and we asked for "your best bagel and your best cream cheese". Apparently that means plain which we said was too small and it changed to poppyseed, with plain cream cheese. what the hell. It was over toasted, and if that was the best, then don't get a bagel. They had a salad bar that looked enticing though, and if i'd wanted a salad i'd probably be tempted to go there for one. However, their prices are pretty ridiculous. I paid 6.50 for a bagel and water. *sigh*

Shouldn't expect much from a chain restaurant, but these are all over the city! Had breakfast here one morning - breakfast wraps - quite boring really. I guess I'm used to breakfast burritos in San Diego. Definitely overpriced for what you get. Would not recommend, especially while in NYC since there are always other options!

went here and somehow it took them forever to get our order ready (a panini and two vegetable soups). there wasnt anyone else in line and we stood in front of the soup area in hopes of gaining someone's attention. instead, they stood there to stir the soup as if we were just looking past the glass to glare at them. the soup was just average and although there was nothing special about it, i do remember the zuchinni in particular being fresh. other than that, $22 was quite ridiculous for what we ordered. can find something of better quality elsewhere worth this price.

I go there once every 2-3 weeks in order to buy bagels for the office. Today, I went in for the first time in a while - they took down all the prices. After soem holiday weight, I ordered a egg white omelete with 3 items (no toast or potatoes) and they charged me $8.70!!!!! I complained to the server and the manager next to her told her it was $6.79! She said she woudl give me the differenc e back and gave me $1.21. This place is SOOOO overpriced, and I can't believe they try to trick customers by 1) taking down prices off all menus, 2) overcharging customers, and then 3) fleecing you on the change. Beware.
