Cafe Metro is a standard NY cafe/deli serving the midtown masses for lunch. It is neither terrible, nor extraordinary. Personally, two things they offer stand out to me as being better than the pack:
1) Oatmeal Bar - in the AM, you can get a small/medium/large oatmeal with your choice of toppings. Everything from fresh bananas, to walnuts, to cinnamon, to raisins. This turns a usual oatmeal into a really amazing breakfast. I think I paid $2.00 for a medium with like 4 toppings.
2) Pasta Bar - Maybe just because pasta bars are nostalgic of my NYU Kimmel days, I love when a fresh uniformed man saute's my pasta and toppings just for me! Choose your pasta, sauce, and various add in's, and within minutes you have a hot delicious meal that hits the spot.
Cafe metro gets very crowded at lunch. I haven't found the salads, pizza, or sandwiches to be amazing, but I'm willing to give them another shot if I'm around.Listed in: Times Square Lunch Lady

Do not use this location for catering.
They lied to me about exactly where they were located- I guess they forgot I was picking up and they were not delivering- I went to the wrong location for a pick up. They were unapologetic and aggressive when I confronted them.
The food was so so. -

Like many theories in our arcane little universe, some are best left undisturbed. Case in point...
It was a humid & sticky day outside. I've been walking for an eternity (three manhattan blocks!). And, I had a light lunch that day (water). I needed a break or something. Then it dawned on me, a nice refreshing smoothie in an air-conditioned cafe with a well-cushioned window seat for people watching; an oasis of sorts in this urban jungle we call home.
(1) Window Seating - check!
(2) People Watching - check!
(3) Soft Cushioned Chair - check!
(4) Strong Air Conditioner - check!
(5) ______?
Notice something missing?, yeah!, so did I.
The triple berry smoothie was pretty darn awful. It's comprised of raspberries, blueberries and strawberries. It sounds amazing, but the reality is quite stark.
They somehow managed to keep every-and-any ounce of flavor out of this beverage. This is single-handedly the worst smoothie I have ever had. I didn't think it was possible to get any worse than _______. Congratulations Cafe Metro!Listed in: Smoothie Operator

Good spot to grab lunch. I stopped in and ordered their lunch special, which is half a sandwich and soup for $7.99.
I ordered the lobster bisque and a ham/swiss sandwich.
The bisque was good, not great (as I have had better lobster bisque in Maine, Montauk and at my Mom's house). But that is not to say it is not worth getting, because it is, and I will get it again since I work nearby.
The ham and Swiss was topped with mustard, lettuce and tomato. The rye bread was decent but kind of hard to chew.Might be because they refrigerate the sandwiches, but it was edible nonetheless.
They also have a salad bar, which is decent, but way less options than nearby PAX. Other soups included organic chicken, vegetable and clam chowder. It looks like they change it up with different soups daily.
Plus they have a make your own pasta meal section with different noodles, sauces and toppings for about $8. Plus yogurts, sandwiches, wraps and more. Everything looked good and it is worth checking out. -

Overpriced, rude and slow. If you are in charge of placing a pre-made sandwich into the oven for 3 minutes, how can you possibly screw it up on MULTIPLE occasions? It's interesting, but it happens every time. Every time I go here, I tell myself I'll never go back, but it's so convenient for the office that sometimes it's the quickest option. This time, I'm done for good. Stay away! Go to Guy and Gallard instead, either on 38th down about a half a block, or 40th down about a half a block toward 8th.

"can we go somewhere light for lunch?" i asked my friend as we discussed possible restaurant spots.
"you want a salad?"
"yes."
"do you care where we go?"
"no, can you recommend anything?"
"well. salad places are all the same."
maybe it was my fault walking in here on a weekend, but the salad topping choices were dismal. severely lacking in choices. staff was unfriendly and not particularly helpful.
and, some of the sections were closed. i guess i was surprised, especially since this place is so close to times square, i'd imagine they'd be busy all the time, and that they'd like to be well stocked.
i'm going to go ahead and say my friend was wrong in her assumption that all salad places were the same. very wrong. -

I could eat here everyday. They have a noodle bar with all you want to add. Genious...Cheap Udon with freshers. Add the Japanese Miso on the Udon when you are ready. Good eats and fast!

A part of me dies every time I have to grab lunch or breakfast from Cafe Metro. It is the epitome of generic midtown delis and yet it's so close to my office I can't help but go to it as my lunch standby.
The bagels are just alright and over-priced at $2 with plain cream cheese. I'd rather spend $1.25 for a delicious bagel from my neighborhood before going to work. For lunch I'll usually just get a medium soup and some free bread which is surprisingly filling for me. Sometimes they'll have a $5 soup/sandwich special if you order online. I wouldn't pay anything more than that for a lunch from here. -

a quaintly long narrow space. on the right are the line chefs with their little white hats on and holding their spatulas attentively waiting to cook your order. on the left are huge windows lined with a bar and high chairs.
it's one of my favorite places for breakfast, i always get the wheat toast, egg whites, grilled ham, and fresh fruit. oh don't forget the yummy fresh squeezed orange juice.
i noticed their desserts too, but never had one. i'll be going back here because it's a quick place to grab a bite to eat. -

There just aren't many places to grab lunch near my office and so I end up coming here like 3 times a week. They have pizza, pasta, salad, soup, quesadillas, and pre-made sandwiches/wraps. Service is generally speedy and polite. The salad guy tends to zone out and give you the wrong toppings, but hey it could be worse. The prices aren't cheap, but they aren't outrageous either. I can usually walk out without spending over $10. If this wasn't near my office I would be much worse off for lunch. However, Chipotle is supposed to open in my building soon!
