Dear Cafe Metro,
I would like to thank you for existing. Finding a 'make your own salad' place in which toppings are unlimited makes me warm and happy inside. See, I like vegetables, nay, i love vegetables, and I also love an excessive amount of vegetables in my salad. Your dining experience allows me to indulge my need for high ingredient salads. I also appreciate the price. $8 for a massive two meal salad is well within my meager budget.
Additionally, I appreciate the other items on your menu. While I have not tried your 'make your own pasta' or any of the tantalizing sandwiches, (based on my knowledge of your salads) it is safe to assume those meals would be equally delicious. Your menu sports a significant amount of clearly labeled vegetarian and low-fat options which did not go unnoticed either.
I believe that many patrons would request more seating but that might not be an issue if people didn't loiter in their seats post-eating. Cafe Metro, that is not your problem. Finally, thank you for your efficient and friendly service. Someone holding the door open for me on the way out was a very nice final touch.
best,

.....Where do I even begin?
Their sandwiches and soup are horrible. The WORST soup I've ever had in the city from any cafe or deli.
1. Full turkey sandwich was soggy and tinier than normal.
2. I bought 2 soups. Soup 1: Seafood bisque soup. Extremely salty. Seafood? Really? All I found was a little shrimp that was really tough to chew and maybe 3 baby dices of a potato. Thick like tomato. Taste like tomato juice in the end.
3. Soup 2: Corn Clam Chowder soup. Extremely watery.... shudders* I didn't find clams in it.
4. I paid an extra 2 dollars for both soups because it had "seafood" in it.
5. I didn't walk out or protest when I saw the soup being poured and it already didn't look right when i saw the color and how watery it is.
6. No crackers for soup.
7. The soup cover was not properly covered and uncapped when in the bag. Thank goodness I carried it right or it wouldve been a huge mess.
Hale and Hearty, I should have never doubt you....you have been very good to me.
I've been here a few times awhile ago for their tossed salad which was mehhh until I found out about another cafe. Green cafe gives you the same tossed salad with the same varieties for a dollar cheaper. Why yes...I would like to have a drink with my salad afterall =] -

I ordered from here nearly every day while I was on an internship over the summer. Their delivery is extremely fast, and I had only one or two problems with orders over a few months. Everything is fresh, and selections are always changing. Their salads are my favorite, as someone else said, the sesame ginger dressing is wonderful. Their pasta is good but very oily. Their sandwiches are great, freshly made and toasted, and also much more interesting than the standard deli. The soups are also a good choice, and even the vegetarian options are filling for lunch. I'd steer clear of their pizzas and paninis. A coworker of mine swore by them, but he's a college kid from New Jersey who also swears by Double Whoppers and Bud Light.
DON'T try to eat here during the lunch rush, it's a tiny place, and even their patio seating gets crowded. You'll end up juggling all your stuff while you hover over someone's table or eating at the small counter in the back like a horse in a stall. -

WOW. We want Cafe Metro! We want Cafe Metro out here in California!
Delicious sandwiches, pasta and desserts.
We plan to head down to Cafe Metro everytime we head down to New York. Highly recommended. Great price, great food, great quality. -

Good basic lunch offerings and pleasant service. The Filet of Sole Franchese is awesome.
Avoid ordering their Grilled Cheese Sandwich tho...they literally give you ONE SLICE of cheese! (end result=cheese flavored over-toasted bread). -

I go to the location on East 60th Street. I like the concept of being able to walk in grab a small or large container of salad and then hand it to the person to put exactly what ingredients I want added to the salad and the choice of dressing. All items are fresh and they are very fast at getting your order completed.
They have this concept in place for their pasta station and pizza station. You pick the type of pasta, sauce, and ingredients. They heat up everything right in front of you while you wait. Multiply cooking stations to help cut down the wait during peak times. Little heavy for a lunch but is good. The pricing is a little crazy at $7.99 for lunch portion and $8.99 for dinner portion of pasta. The pizzas are fresh and cooking in their "brick" oven so give yourself some time during lunch time.
The soups are good and they usually offer 5 or 6 different kinds. Three different sizes are available. The soup can seem a little over salted and not consistent at times.
Deliver is usually fast and the food stays hot or cold depending on what you ordered. I eat there 2-3 times a month. For a "deli/soup" place I think the prices are a little expensive for what you get. You can get something for $8 put not a lot of substance, more bread then meat at times. It seems they always get you for $10-12 no matter what I have ordered, if not more. -

I also find Cafe Metro another overhyped NY Deli. They offer all the basic lunch choices. I find it a little over priced for the quantity of food. One of my biggest disappointment is I ordered 2 wraps and a sandwich and all three items were over stuffed with dressing. I felt like i was taking a bite of a sandwich and then drinking a shot of dressing. It was tasty tho. The mixture of dressing was delicious just WAY too much. The quality of meat and bread were also great. I just wish there was less dressing and bigger portions.
I rate this just average. Nothing wowed me nor did this place stand out from all the other delis in NY -

I used to eat at one on 42nd st when I worked down there but now there's a new one (at least to me) up on 60th that I started frequenting and it's basically identical food (as chains should be).
Ok, the best thing about it, is the pre-made salads. Since I don't like talking to people this is right up my alley. My preferences are the pre-made greek salad, the salmon asian thing, a fruity toppings garden salad thing and the plain garden salad with a tuna salad blob in the middle. I tend to go for the salmon. It's encrusted with toasted sesame seeds and has a great flavor, especially when you add a little dressing here and there.
They also have a nice outdoor seating area in the rear. In the summer it's a little hot, unless you are impervious to sweating. Even though it's fully canopied it's still muggy...but I'll admit it...I sit out there all the time. -

Meh - you wont be full, but will be full of salt.
Went there for lunch had a soup and a sandwich.
The sit down area is nice the tables are clean and upkeep.
The soup came in a small bowl and was just OK, maybe they should not put so much salt in it.
My chicken sandwich (half) was kind of small.
Came out of that place feeling not to full for the price, and it seems like there is a good tourist destination every time i pass it buy and the one time i sat in there. -

Disappointing smoothie. $6.50 for a medium cup full of froth with about a quarter of a cup of actual juice. The cup was light as a feather! Should have went to Food Exchange on 59th.

Good salad bar, decent pizza, sandwiches, etc. Your basic expanded lunchtime deli, but new-school deli, not old-school. If the weather is nice sit outside in back in their courtyard - not beautiful, but nice.

I llove the "you call it, we'll make it" on the salads, pizzas, pastas etc... The ingredients are fresh and the service super quick. I hate that i'm paying $10 for a bowl of lettuce, some veggies and a diet coke. But it is about right for the neighborhood and its a consistent place to grab a quick lunch. The outside space looks nice too....of course thats just the tiny bit of it I can see as I grab my salad and run out the door again.

They sell pastas with toppings the same way other places do salads! Everything looks so fresh, clean, and tasty! As soon as I walk in I usually zero in on one thing or another that looks especially good that day. Their sandwiches and wraps are hearty and delicious. I can't praise this place enough!! The downside- other reviews seem to mention them messing up orders often. It's true, I've seen that happen too. Just keep an eye out and you'll have a fantastic lunchtime experience!

Great food. Came here for lunch one day with some friends and sat outside, very nice. Well, it's nice for what it is, nothing SPECIAL, but it's nice b/c its clean and the food is good. Great stop for a quick bite of something fast.

I LOVE the salads here. You can add as much veggies as you want! The sesame ginger dressing is my favorite. I also like the make your own pasta (tricolor tortellini with pesto) and yogurt parfaits. The cafe area in the back is a nice place to enjoy the weather when its warm.

I like coming here for the online deals. The food is decent - just like the other places around the area. Unfortunately, they've messed up on my orders more than once already, and I find the sandwiches small. Hence the 3 stars.

I picked up food here last year to eat as I was heading home . My panini sandwich was excellent, and the fresh fruit was really very fresh. The restaurant has a good atmosphere, and lots of different choices for food. I definitely would recommend it for a quick bite to eat!

I went to this cafe for breakfast with my coworker. We both got pancakes with sunny side eggs. The pancakes were good, eggs were more scramble and not that great. The service was bad and it was like they were ignoring the customers in the cafe especially when ordering. The pricing wasn't that great either but normal to Manhattan standards.

One of my worst restaurant experiences. The food was plain bad, orange juice prices were outrageous, and there was a hair in the food! I have no idea why I came here in the first place. Also, horrible music.

New York, NY
I would give this place ZERO stars if that were allowed. I ordered on their website. After waiting an unacceptable 1 hour and 10 minutes, I called the restaurant. All I ordered was a salad and there is no valid reason for this to take anywhere near and hour. I was told that they do not do online orders. After repeating to them my confirmation from their website the woman still claimed there is no such thing as web orders. She kept saying it's not in the computer. I have no idea what she was talking about. I asked to speak to a manager. And shockingly enough, the manager wasn't there. Then she yelled something to a guy in Spanish and he picked up the phone. I could barely understand what he was saying. He also claimed there were no internet orders. The he said oh wait here it is - do you want it now? By this time, I was irate. I said I wanted the food an hour ago. He was like ok well you are not going to get your food now because I don't like the way you are talking to me. Excuse me?! Whatever happened to customer service? AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. RUDE HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! THEIR FOOD IS NOT EVEN THAT GOOD.

Review from Jenna B.
Fair Lawn, NJ
I really like this place. It is priced like all the other cafes in the Midtown area. The food at this particular cafe is simply the best though! The first time I went I wasn't sure whether to get the buffalo chicken wrap or the cajun chicken panini. I had the guy behind the counter make up my mind and ended up with the cajun chicken panini. IT TASTED LIKE A HUGE HOT POCKET CALZONE you throw in the microwave! Not bad, but dissapointed. However I attempted to go back and decided to get the "You pick 2" and got the 1/2 wrap (buffalo chicken) and lobster bisque soup ($1 more) and it was fantastic. No Lie: I seriously craved their buffalo chicken wraps all the time! I like texture of food and something with the crunchy carrots and breaded chicken just made me always want it. I began to frequent Cafe Metro more and started ordering online to get a discount. How funny. I also really liked their salad which you can create. Usually got the buffalo chicken and added things like feta cheese and artichokes. It was really good. I tried their pasta and it was exactly the same as W Cafe.Well priced and creative choices. 5 Stars for this place! Note: They don't offer a lot of drinks and they are like $3 each so I usually just bought a Snapple from a stand for 1/2 the price before I came in....How silly!
