Went here for Brunch, got here around11am and place is packed! We took the last table available at the time we walked in. So expect to be waiting here.
Ordered a cappuccino, OJ and coffee for Mike and they were...meh. Nothing to brag about. Pancakes were amazing! M not really a pancake fan because I have been traumatize with all the other brunch places we've tried in Brooklyn and has not met my expecations. But Cafe Luluc you have turned me around and m once again a pancake lover. Theyre so just-right fluffy in the middle and crispy on the sides that I finished two and a half of my 3 pancakes! I usually am full after eating one and a half but your pancakes just kept me eating it and eating it. If I didnt have one of his eggs benedict, i wouldve finished that plate!
Im definitely gonna be back everytime I get my craving of pancakes =) -

This place has excellent brunch for a very affordable price.
I have been here over 4 times and the best thing I have tried for brunch has been the eggs benedict with ham.
The pancakes here are amazing and crispy. -

Other than that, Cafe Luluc blew my mind! Two of us split an order of pancakes and each ordered our own egg entree. That may seem gluttonous, but I assure you, you do not want to leave Cafe Luluc without trying their pancakes with fresh fruit. The pancakes are perfect- best I've ever ever had (and I've had a lot of pancakes). They were kind of crispy on the edges (which doesn't sound that appetizing, but trust me it is) and wonderfully soft and fluffy on the inside. They were pretty thick too. Mmmmmm...I had to stop and pay these pancakes their proper respect by observing a moment of silence. So good. The reason I gave this review 4 stars is that the pancakes were 5, and the other things we had (egg dishes) were about a 3.5.
On to egg reviews. I had the poached eggs with smoked salmon on an english muffin, and it was great. No complaints. Great flavor with the Hollandaise sauce. The plate also included a little salad with greens which were tossed with a great dressing- not sure what kind it was, but I gobbled it up in no time. Also came with fries-- good but nothing to write home about. That was the only mediocre thing I ate. My friend got the open-faced Western omelet- his words, "they were OK but nothing special. The highlight was definitely the pancakes".
Keep in mind, Cafe Luluc is reallllllly small-- you may find yourself uncomfortably close to the two-person table to your left or right. Literally, there is probably only 1-2 inches of space separating the two tables. Kind of awkward. But WORTH IT FOR THE PANCAKES! -

Great cheap breakfast. Come before 11 on a weekend to ensure you dont have to wait too long for a table. Prices are surprisingly low-- $8 for eggs florentine with fries and salad.
Though the tables are placed really close together. If you want privacy, maybe this isn't the place for you. -

Fresh off the full and I cant stop thinking about the most amazing pancakes I ever had...
They are maybe best described as the better parts of the crispy edge of a crepe with the fluffy middle of a traditional pancake and the perfect amount of sweetness - topped with delicious banana and strawberry slices.
I didn't want my cakes to feel lonely so I ordered a side of bacon. They were crisp and delicious and had very little of that chewy fatty part that makes you feel chewy and fatty after eating it. I hadn't planned on sharing, but luckily the portion was just enough so that I didn't have to resort to slapping anyone's hands away from my plate.
The only boo point was that we arrived at 11:30am, the perfect time to avoid a wait (no resi's) but 30 minutes too early to order any bellinis (what is this crazy Sunday alcohol rule?). Sober brunch aside, the food is totally worth a visit.
Ill be back, soon. Oh and CASH ONLY kids. -

So I made the trip to brooklyn and was not disappointed. Great brunch location!! Pancakes are as superb as the reviews say. Benedict dishes and fries are also really good. Nice cozy French bistro atmosphere. The wait was reasonable. Would def come back again.

The pancakes are good. The service is OK.The cappuccino ($3.50) is not good. Thin. After I was done with my cappuccino , I asked for a refill of regular coffee in my small cappuccino cup. That was an extra $2.50. The bagel ordered with cream cheese comes already slathered with butter, so if you do not want both butter and cream cheese make sure you ask for the bagel to be dry. I may try the place once more maybe for dinner or a drink and will update.

I have been to Cafe Luluc twice. Once for an early dinner and another time for the brunch. I loved both meals. I thought the menu looked quite simple on paper, but the classic choices were sensational. For example, I avoid chicken sandwiches when dining out as they are usually dry and bland. Not so at Cafe Luluc. It is a must order. They also make a great espresso and yes, the pancakes are good enough to fight your momma.
The restaurant itself is lovely and the back garden is quiet and comfortable. -

File me under "not a pancake person. . . until I tried Luluc's." Like many Yelpers before me, I didn't understand what was so special about this breakfast staple. One bite and all my doubts melted away like warm butter. Not too heavy, not too light, and sprinkled with white powdered euphoria.
My brunch companion got the quiche. It was a little rich for both of us. We should have just ordered more pancakes. -
Review from Sheri G.
These may be the best pancakes I've ever had. Extremely fluffy and soft on the inside but crispy on the outside. Can Alton Brown explain how they do that?
The Benedict was so-so.
ProTip: Sit at the counter if there's a wait. It's small and a little cramped, but it definitely works for 2 or 3 people. -

i'm giving cafe luluc 3 stars because i loved the food, but the service was really lacking. We arrived for brunch on a sunday and were told the wait would be about 20 minutes. The host proceeded to seat several other parties who arrived after us, which was annoying. I understand that we were a party of 3, so parties of 4 may receive preference. However, i think it was a little unfair to make us wait longer than other groups who arrived later. We ended up waiting about a half hour only to be seated near the door. It was SO cold at our table that we were wearing our winter coats. We asked to be moved and, luckily, about 5 minutes later we were seated at a better table.
I ordered the pancakes and my two friends ordered sandwiches. The food took a really long time to arrive. I noted at one point that we had been in the restaurant for an hour and 15 minutes already and still had not received our food (we waited a half hour to be seated, so 45 minutes at the table and still no food!). I was pretty starving so this was irritating. FINALLY when the food did arrive it was delicious. The pancakes were great! I'm not sure if they were worth the wait, however.
I would definitely return for the food but maybe at a quieter time. They seemed a bit short staffed which also may have been part of the problem. -

Everyone loves the pancakes. Well, guess what? I LOVED THE PANCAKES. It's magic, really. Soft on the inside, crispy on the inside. So amazing Bill O'Reilly wouldn't need any scientific explanation on how they work from any of you pinheads.
The coffee is also amazing. Strong flavor, but smooth, not bitter (does anyone know what kind of coffee they use or how they get it to taste so damn good?).
Service was a bit slow since it was only two waiters and a few busboys (so not too much of that tasty coffee), but the food hits the spot (and those pancakes pack on the pounds).
It is one of the very few places in the area that is open early for brunch (baffling, since the area has so many families with children). -

Stopped in for breakfast one morning, hoping it would be much better than the alternative of Dunkin Donuts or whatever. Suffice to say, I was pleasantly surprised.
I had the quiche, which I normally do not order in restaurants, but this one sounded pretty good. And boy howdy, was it ever. Probably the best quiche I have ever had the pleasure of sampling in my few short years on this verdant planet.
I was slightly taken aback by the music they were playing (salsa?) and the gruff service, but it wasn't all that bad.
And, thankfully, I happened to have $10 on me, because I didn't find out they don't take plastic until the end of the meal. -

The pancakes were DELICIOUS OMG. Flakey burnt on the outside and buttery deliciousness on the inside. The coffee was some of the best I've ever had. OJ was fresh.
The only downside is that their waitstaff was EXTREMELY LIMITED. There were 2 waiters and 1 bus boy. Getting coffee refills was a little tricky. The staff was attentive but you had to catch their attention. They should hire another person. I get that its a small place but c'mon working those men to the bone!
Seriously what is going on in Gowanus/Slope/Hill?! We wanted a brunch place at 9am and everything was closed. We ended up here because it was open and had great review. The price - solid 15 each.
When we were finishing up around 10 the line was a little long so be careful.

Hands down best pancakes ever, yes ever!
pancakes are officially my favorite food ever ( I know it's just flour, baking soda, milk and butter) but you know good and well that despite the simple recipe, squishy, hard, overly thick and plain old disgusting excuses for pancakes can be produced, served and expected to receive monetary compensation. Luluc's dream come true is none of those things. I don't know the secret to their crispy outside sweet inside and ability to fully articulate the definition pan-cake but they are always delicious.
I'm a fan of the prices, eggs florentine and charm too. -

One pancake is enough.
Yes, they're delicious. Yes, you're hungry. But really: one is enough. Would you eat three big muffins in one sitting? If the answer is no (and it really should be) you don't want two of these pancakes.
Get the half-order. It's enough. I promise. -
Review from Evan M.
After hearing how great their pancakes were I decided to stop in. I just so happened to be in the Brooklyn area one morning so it was a no-brainer, especially since this little breakfast spot is open as early as 7:30am on weekdays.
Upon entering you feel as if you have been transported to a Parisian cafe minus the locals that hate Americans. Full bar at the ready for the boozers that need their AM alcohol fix. I was skeptical about the pancakes at first, especially since this is a french place. The pancakes were fantastic and unlike any I have ever tasted before. There were only two but they were very large and thick. It seemed more like a pastry type of pancake with a hint of cornmeal. There was an outer crispiness to them with an inner fluffiness that seemed to soak up the syrup in a way that melded the two together in tasty unison. It was kind of like a Vulcan mind meld of both pancake and syrup. Naturally, the syrup was real maple and not the fake stuff.
This place is a little more upscale than most breakfast places yet I was surprised how good the prices were. You would pay more at a crappy diner. The prices being what they were, I decided to order another entree. I'm a bit of a big eater. I also did the bacon, cheddar, and tomato omelet which was also very good. The omelet was not overcooked and had a nice overall yellow color to it. Not a fan of brown spotty diner omelets.
Cafe Laluc is a real gem in the area and I would definitely put it on my list of places to revisit. If you put this cafe in Manhattan there would probably be a line out the door and filled with ex-patriots and eurotrash who like to wear sunglasses indoors; unless your name is Jack Nicholson there's no way you are pulling that one off, buddy. Thankfully, things are a little less pretentious in this area of Brooklyn so chances are I will be back here to stuff my face like a true American. -

I've been here twice. They are popular during brunch, and busy, and you have to wait to be seated. I'm OK with that.
The good: their outside patio, their pancakes, their fries
The bad: coffee cups and glasses that taste like dishwashing chemicals (and foamy coffee?), bland skimpy hollandaise, having to flag them down to order, and overcooked fries.
My fellow diners weren't impressed either. -

I went in for breakfast on Wednesday at 8:25am so it was not crowded. Tables very close together as noted by other yelpers. Food was just ok (nothing special). I had eggs Benedict, eggs cooked great, very small portion of hollandaise and French frys? ( I like hash browns!!)

Meh...Just meh. I went into this place thinking I was going to try the famous pancakes... but decided instead, to go for my all-time favorite - eggs benedict (with gravlax).
It's hard to make that dish really good, but it's also hard to make it meh. Just adding capers usually takes it up a notch. But they didn't seem to think it was necessary.
Friend's omelette was also just so-so.
Atmosphere was loud and kind of cramped. Not at all cute and French, like I imagined. Might return since I live closeby, but I'd rather go elsewhere. -

The food here was fab. I had the pancakes and they were just as everyone else has described. My daughter had the pasta and she literally cleaned her plate.
The only think I didn't like was the tight eating space. But the food made it worth the while. I'd definitely go back again. -
Review from James F.
On yet another day where I walked around NYC (about 16 miles round trip), I serendipitously discovered this gem of a place.
Welcomed in with a smile, I really enjoyed the service here. I imagine that if I was living in the area, I might well become a regular.
Being that I had a craving for a burger (with as much as could possible fit in it), I attempted to satisfy my desire.... and came so close. Would have been absolutely perfect if it had a fried egg (still runny) and a slice of beetroot (and yes.... beetroot in burgers is a must!!).
It was soooo juicy... soooo tender... soooo bloody delicious!!! Fried were nice and crisp too. *thumbs up*
Only issue I had here was that it was cash only. Given my reliance on plastic, I am glad I was able to scrounge enough of the green stuff to pay for lunch. -

This review may be a little unfair, because I'm giving it out based on one item, and one item only: their pancakes. I do not throw these 5 stars around lightly; I am a bit of a pancake freak, and have spent years perfecting my own homemade version of this breakfast staple. However, the cooks, nay magicians, at Cafe Luluc have brought the flapjack to a higher plane. The insanely light and airy texture combined with the way the edges are crisp and ooze slightly when bitten makes me convinced the secret is that after pan frying them, they deep fry them like funnel cake or zeppolis, but I cannot be certain. The only other explanation is some sort of Brooklyn voodoo, because I have never in my life tasted a pancake like this one.
As all pancake connoisseurs know, there is no breakfast foul more egregious than serving maple-flavored corn syrup in place of the real deal, and Cafe Luluc makes sure not to make that faux pas. Although you might find you'll barely need it as the sweet, buttery, cakiness shines by its lonesome. It's also served with fresh strawberries and bananas, which I found to be a nice touch. For $8.50 you get 2, although I guarantee one will expand your belly just fine After wolfing down both, I was left with that day-after-Halloween feeling. You all know what I'm talking about.
I did take a bite of my girlfriend's spinach-goat cheese quiche, which was admittedly quite good, and their coffee was definitely a cut above your average restaurant joe, but when you get right down to brass tacks, those 5 stars belong to the pancakes. -

Close your eyes and imagine the perfect pancake. That perfect smell, the crisp exterior and soft interior, syrup that rolls off the top, down the sides like a mythical MIss Butterworth commercial. Now open your eyes and go to Cafe Luluc because their pancakes are far better than your imagination.
I love it ihere. The staff is humble, fast and incredibly polite even though they're probably the best brunch spot I've ever been to on Smith Street (and anything within 2 miles of Smith Street). I wish the place were bigger. I was they had larger tables. Really though, it doesn't matter. They're awesome. -
Review from Emma A.
My mom always says: the way to tell the quality of a bar or restaurant's staff is how they treat a single female diner. And Cafe Luluc did not fail me.
I popped in because it was the nicest looking place on the strip that was busy but not full. Sat right by the window and enjoyed the buzz of the place and a giant, affordable, pretty good bowl of pasta. The pasta itself was not bad, but the mushrooms were cooked perfectly. Not a chewy mushroom in sight. Attentive staff, but not annoying. Not a single raised eyebrow or sideways glance at a young woman eating out by herself on a Friday night. That's what I like to see (you'd be surprised at how often it happens). -

Not sure how this place got so many positive reviews. Looks like a cute place and it could have been great, but our brunch sucked.
They didn't know what a Bellini was, the food came out in literally under 5 minutes before the drinks. And the "Blood Mary" was undrinkable. I love spicy food, but the bartender obviously didn't taste his own mix. There must have been a TBSP of black pepper and horseradish in my glass alone.
The omelet I had was literally scrambled eggs folded over giant chunks of cold bacon, unmelted cheddar and tomato. They couldn't even take the time to core their tomatoes. Who really wants to eat the stem? I guess they do.
This place sucks. Go down the street to Bar Tabac and have a proper meal. -

Met some friends here for brunch and was overall pretty impressed. Service was great. I appreciated the fact that when my husband and I arrived before everyone else, they not only seated us, but helped us push together a couple tables so that we'd have room for 5. Two friends arrived shortly thereafter, but the other had subway problems, and still the server was happy to let drink and catch up, without rushing us to order food.
Food was overall quite good. Their fries were amazing ...I don't typically like fries all that much, but these were perfectly cooked. The scrambled eggs with salmon were also good, though not as perfect as those fries. Other entrees at the table included a pulled pork sandwich and eggs benedict, both of which were also good. I forgot what the other two entrees were, so I guess those were less memorable. No one got the apparently famous pancakes...guess that gives me an excuse to go back up to NYC to try them!Listed in: New York, NY

If you don't want to seem like a true fat a** don't do what I did.
I went here for brunch 2 days in a row. LOL!
In my defense I think they have crack in their pancakes. They are SOOO good. The 2nd day I woke up thinking and itching for a pancake fix. Just sad.
It was under $12 and that was just perfect for me and my new habit.Listed in: Fav Spots to Brunch!

I rarely order pancakes at brunch as it is a meal I can often duplicate at home without too much effort. But after seeing the multiple glowing reviews - I went for it. Pancakes it was.
& I wasn't disappointed. Two good-sized fluffy pancakes with a few scattered pieces of fruit.
Service was a bit brusque for me - not unfriendly but nothing charming about it. Not very good with substitutions - they'd rather you order additional things a la carte. The seating here is rather squished but we lucked out & got a booth.Listed in: NY New York

YES I AM DEFINITELY A FAN. After reading such great reviews from my yelper friends, I figured I have to go. Soooo to open up a weekend of birthday festivities for one of my best gal pals, two of my foodie girlie's and I ventured to Cafe LuLuc for their awesome pancakes. We went on a beautiful summer Friday morning, and we were able to get seated right away. We chose to sit outside, since I am choosing to bask in the summer sun as much as possible. So all three of us, ordered the pancakes and we got an omelet to share.
So u want to know about the pancakes???? OMG.. I have never in my life ever felt this way about a pancake. It was just delicious. Crispy but nice and fluffy at the same time. How are they achieving this? What is their secret? I am in love with a pancake. Considering I am not a pancake girl at all. It was just delicious, I only used a little maple syrup just to taste the pancake with its time honored condiment. But this pancake, does not need it at all. Now the omelet, was also very good, it was an omelet with mushrooms and asiago cheese. Yummy!!!. The mushrooms were seasoned and my bff felt she tasted garlic. Which just added a special kick. The omelet comes with french fries and a salad. I enjoyed the salad, since it had a nice light dressing on it. Fries--ehhh not so much.
I have to be honest, and admit, I did wake up on Saturday morning craving those pancakes. So this definitely will be a place I go back to.
The only reason I will not give Cafe a 5 was for the service- our waitress was not really present and not attentive as I have come to appreciate these days. And for that, her tip was 12%. Can you believe she hunted us down to question her tip. And informed us that its standard 15%. Yes standard for service up to the level. And she was not, but feeling the pressure of embarrassment. We caved and gave her 15%. -

Nice little chic French bistro. Close quarters and seemingly always packed. But the wait staff and cooks are amazingly fast. Food is delicious and comes in generous portions. Sheer size of the pancakes alone is intimidating (eat them with a friend--or an enemy). Definitely worth the trip.

Quite Nice!
After reading all the reviews about Cafe Luluc, I decided to give it a try, and I am so glad I did. First of all, the place is small so we had to wait about 15-20 min before being seated. Service was fast and efficient. Wasn't in the mood for pancakes so I had the eggs with salmon, french fries and salad, and it was delicious. No complaints there!
The thing that impressed me the most was the coffee/latte. It was the best latte I've had in a very long time. It was so smooth and delicious. I loved it so much that I ordered two of them!
Will try the pancakes the next time, but very pleased with what I ate.................. -

It's true the pancakes are GOOOOOD!!!
I am not even a big pancake fan! The first time I came here I ordered an omelette and I ended up stealing about half of the boy's order of pancakes! This is a great brunch spot as long as you don't mind babies and bustle! -

I'd give it five stars on the pancakes alone! Unfortunately the 45 minute wait standing at the doorway on a snowy blistering morning ruined the experience, The place is a little cramp, not cute at all during the winter. I guess the wait could be more bearable if it isn't raining or snowing. I did come here another time during the summer with friends and enjoyed the backyard seating. I remember the food and drinks were amazing that day. The service could have been better, not enough staff during my last visit. I pretty much love everything for brunch on the menu but It's the pancakes that has me dreaming of coming back often. I brought a friend here not telling her about the pancakes. She ordered French toast which was good. After tasting my pancakes and damn near devouring my plate, she said hands down the best pancakes she ever tasted.

This place has the best pancakes in the city! Sometimes there's quite a wait for brunch, particularly if you come with a large party. Definitely worth sitting at the bar if you'd prefer to eat and run.
While I tend to prefer Cafe Luluc for brunch over dinner, their burger is outstanding. Otherwise, other dinner entrees satisfying but unremarkable. Try their $7 burger special (I think it's on Monday nights) and you won't be sorry. Fries are tasty too.
The restaurant is crowded and noisy during the day, but has a cute and cozy atmosphere at night. -

Sometimes I read the reviews on Yelp and see that there is an obvious choice as to what to get, but I snub my nose at that choice when I get to the restaurant because something on the menu calls out to me. This time I trusted in peter d. and the rest of the Yelp community and decided on the pancakes before I even sat down. I even read the menu to make sure, but I was charged up about pancakes since the reviews placed them into some sort of Holy Land.
** Disappointment alert **
The order comes with two pancakes and the top pancake was excellent - crispy outer shell and completely fluffy inside, great flavor and close to flawless although not delivered from the heavens. The problem was that the second pancake, the one on the bottom, was about 25% more cooked than the one on the top. While it was edible, it paled in comparison to the one that laid ever so gently on top of it waiting to be devoured. It was the type of thing that Gail, Tom and Padma would complain about incessantly because one was so good and one was so average. If both had been as the first one, I would have been quite happy.
Luluc is a small place and the tables are very close. As usual with NY, this is to be expected, but it does nothing for ambience or brunch when you are right next to someone else, like right next to them. Fortunately, at 1030 on a Saturday it wasn't packed although by 1130 it was getting there. The service here is attentive and the atmosphere is very friendly. I kind of want that top pancake again, but was so disappointed at the stepchild laying right below.Listed in: BoCoCaGow

Yeah, I am not even going to attach my pancake and veggie burger pix. Since there are so many pix already.
Read about Cafe LuLuc on Yelp and everyone raved about their pancakes. Took the advice from my fellow Yelpers and went Cafe LuLuc for lunch and ordered their famous pancakes. My friend had veggie burger with fries.
HELLO! I Raptured and went to HEAVEN!!! And...dropped back down to Earth...Darn it!
Did not know that pancakes could be crispy around the edges and be soft and fluffy in the middle. Secret? They fried them first and then baked them. Awesome! Best pancakes I ever tasted.
Took a bite of my friend's veggie burger and it was delicious. Not your usual boring and yucky "veggie" burger that taste like cardboard. The fries were super thin and super crispy. Not greasy at all.
The pricing was pretty decent. Same dishes in Manhattan would cost a whole lot more.
Have to go back and try other dishes.
Thank you my fellow Yelpers.Listed in: Home restaurants...

This restaurant has been well reviewed, so I'll just leave it at this. You owe it to yourself to try their pancakes. They're not just like any other pancakes I'd ever had. They're crisp on the edges. They're fluffy in the middle. They're buttery. (They don't bring any extra butter and you don't need any.) They reminded me a bit of muffins, but they're clearly not muffins.
I had a side of bacon. And, at least when I had it, it was super crisp. I *love* that, but if you don't, you might ask for a little less crisp.
My friend had the eggs benedict, but with salmon. He loved it. We drove from the middle of Queens and found the trip well worth it. We'll be back.
I like the neighborhodd anyway, so it was good to find a great place to eat on a fun shopping neighborhood.
