Seattle, WA
Cafe Lulu has become my new neighborhood go-to coffee shop when I need to get some work done. It's a tiny little shop with a few tables, a shelf of travel books, and friendly baristas. Almost everyone that comes in here is a regular so the place has a very homey vibe to it. I've been here a few times now and have already had conversations with strangers on multiple occasions.
As far as the coffee goes, it's a little cheaper than the shop down the street which is nice and I haven't been disappointed. I have to say I don't really come here for the coffee as much as the atmosphere, but I had a hot chocolate today and it was AMAZING. They also have delicious looking granola, bagel sandwiches and pastries if you need a bite (waffles on Fri, Sat, Sun). All in all there's not much to the place, but I love that if you go enough you'll always see a familiar face. Also, they're always playing music I like! The only downside is their hours - they're only open until 5 during the week and 2 on the weekends... not ideal for night studying. -

It's on Latona Ave NE and NE 65th St in Seattle. (Green Lake)
I was biking at "Green Lake Park" in the morning and found it on Yelp without knowing it was right by "Latona Pub" - my favorite Seattle hangout place with good foods and beers!!!!
This place is tiny and got a cozy atmosphere. No outside seating. The staff were friendly. The plugs for charging your phone / laptop are available - it's always helpful! Free Wi-Fi. Street parking.

Tasty egg bagel: Egg got no taste. Meh. I like the varieties of bagels but this isn't good.
Squash harvest bread : It tasted like a pumpkin bread. Very light and good!
Cappuccino with soy milk: this espresso wasn't so strong - I'm very sensitive to caffeine and rarely take it anymore. I like it. I don't like this milk foam, which is critical for my cappuccino and was a poor quality. But I like the taste overall.
Apple wassil : it's like an apple cider, though I don't like an apple cider nor cinnamon. This got apple and a hint of cinnamon flavor. Nice sweetness and flavor. I like it :)

It's overrated maybe???
They're listed as a breakfast place on iphone app, but they got bagels and some pastries only. It might be good to grab coffee and a quick bite, but not enough for breakfast. I see they got a quality in general. But I'm not buying about bagels...Listed in: Akiko digs in Seattle, WA

I had such high hopes for Cafe Lulu, instead I was met with disgruntled baristas. Oh I am sorry...I thought you were supposed to be working. It was like my husband and I had interrupted a serious conversation or something.
I was craving a bagel and fortunately...they had 2 left, so my husband and I ordered both and got a dirty look from the barista. Who knows why?!
Seriously...do they not know that this is Seattle and there are hundreds of coffee shops. I would rather go to Starbucks, at least their baristas make eye contact and are friendly.
The coffee was decent, but the barista's attitude was so off-putting that I wouldn't go out of my way to go here again...ever.Comment from Karen L. of Cafe Lulu 5/22/2012

This place has become my daily morning haunt. Why? Their lattes are damn good and they're fast. I'm always groggy and mute-ish as I walk to work in the morning and I love that I can pop in here get a friendly hello and be on my way in less than 5 minutes with some highly caffeinated deliciousness.

A cute little cafe on the corner of Latona and 64th. Nothing particular stands out to me to make it a must-try place, but their coffee is decent, their pastries are tasty, and they offer some snacks to nibble on should you choose to stay a bit and use their free wifi (hard boiled eggs, packaged sandwiches, yogurt, typical cafe fare).
The cafe itself seems to have an emphasis on travel: they have maps, atlases, and travel books all over for you to peruse. Service was alright... our barista (I think she might be the owner?) was friendly, but somewhat aloof. I had no problem with this since I just wanted to read, but it did feel like there was a sort of disconnect in terms of customer service.
I'd only come back if I happened to be in the neighbourhood, but there are so many cafes around Greenlake/Roosevelt that this one doesn't really make it to the top of my list.Listed in: Coffee and tea

I'm not sure if it was the weak pull of espresso that graced my latte. Ugh. It had all the flavor of Maxwell House. Or maybe it was the sour looks that the barista threw at me, possibly because I interrupted her conversation with the other barista. Or perhaps that I felt like I had wandered into someone's kitchen - uninvited - and had the nerve to ask for a drink.
Yes, very cute with all the stripey things, and clearly a place that the Mothers Who Greenlake enjoy visiting after their constitutional. But I'll stick with the awesome coffee and sweet, friendly baristas at Revolution down the street. They may not be all cute and stripey, but they get the job done, and I walk out with a smile. -

I don't think I'll ever go out of my way to go here again, but it was good and I'd be willing to come back if I'm in the area.
It was busy, so it was a bit loud in there. I liked the space, though, and those travel books set up on the bar.
The wheat bagel was pretty good and fresh.
The mocha was quite pleasing.
I can't think of anything bad about the place, but I just wasn't sucked into it or amazed by anything. Maybe if I had been walking by and stumbled upon it when it was quiet or if there was someone playing live music just outside. Maybe then I would have fallen in love. For the time being, however, I'm just a fan.Listed in: Coffee & Tea Joints

When I get sick of going to Revolutions, I head over to Lulu's. Great space and really good coffee (can you go wrong with Vita?).
Find the hidden squeeze bottle of caramel syrup (it's next to the sugar packets) to put a smiley face on your latte foam. :)Listed in: My Neighborhood, Get your shots pulled...

Bonjour! I wish I could write this review in French. Sadly, I know only about 4 words of the language. I can't quite put my finger on why, but I felt like I was in Paris while I was in Cafe Lulu. Maybe it was the guy playing romantic accordion music outside on the sidewalk (think "I've got you under my skin"). Or the collection of travel guides that lined the bar. Or the expertly-made latte and dainty scone I ate whilst reading a novel. (So classy!)
Will I go back here? Oui!Listed in: Zing!

@cimmer: "Cafe Lulu in Green Lake (WA) has the best Chai Tea I've ever tasted. Seriously!"
Soon after tweeting, I was fielding @replies from my fellow chai lovers who couldn't believe that a chai existed that was better than our beloved Lux in Phoenix, AZ. No offense to any other chais, but Lulu's is SO AMAZING. I-want-to-drink-it-every-morning-amazing.
And so begins the story of my love affair with Cafe Lulu. Situated a short walk from the actual lake of Green Lake, Cafe Lulu has everything I want in a breakfast spot:
-Delicious tea, including chai, & a good green tea as well
-Bagels (umm...yum! all sorts of spreads, btw--including egg sandwiches with capers and pesto if you want!)
-Granola (served with yogurt, milk, or soy)
-Baked goods
-Friendly service
-Local
-Wi-Fi
-Sells great children's music
Okay...so that last one isn't something I always look for in a breakfast spot, but it is a great plus of Lulu. The owner's brother, Doug Crandal, has a CD for kids that is all about eating and living healthfully. It's called Radically Free and I don't have kids, but I have certainly passed it on to those who do.
Okay, now back to the deliciousness...Lulu is the answer to your breakfast problems. Lulu is where you want to be in the morning. Believe me. Grab something at Lulu and then catch the bus downtown (its a straight-shot by picking up a line on Latona), I promise your day will be brighter. -

This cozy, charming coffee shop is unique in that they have a surprisingly big menu for such a tiny space. I appreciate that there are more than pastries available to have with my coffee.
Another plus- the establishment has been generous in their support of Green Lake Elementary, which is 2 blocks away. -

This place is cute as hell, but seriously - 2pm closing? I never have time to go here unless it's brunch on the weekend. I feel kind of bad reveiwng it becuase I've only gone here a few times.
They have granola with coconut that I like a lot and some neat mocha flavors, which I remember being good.
They had some weird paraphernalia about rock climbing all around which made me uncomfortable.
Baristas are nice. I just wish they were open a little longer, at least...6pm??Comment from Karen L. of Cafe Lulu 7/14/2010

I used to go a few times a week when it first opened, but moved out of the neighbourhood and had sorta forgotten about it until I found myself walking by a few days ago.
You know, as much as I loved it when I was a "regular,"
...I still do. Great service, great coffee (soy latte, fwiw), and a warm and interesting place to spend a few minutes if you're in a hurry or a lot longer if you're not.
(Loved it so much that my kittykat is actually named Lulu, even though he is a boy.) -

I've been going to Lulu's for almost 8 years. I knew the previous owner and now am friends with the new owner. Solid place, great coffee. This is the epitome of a neighborhood coffee shop. Unless I'm in need of a Wi-fi connection, I go to Lulu's everyday.

I went to Cafe Lulu's this morning for breakfast and coffee with friends. Full disclosure: an acquaintance owns this place.
Loved...my egg bagel was super tasty and quick. My latte was a work of art. I especially enjoyed the nutella brioche. The atmosphere there was super chill and cozy.
Disliked...nothing, this is the perfect place for neighborhood coffee and a light breakfast. -

Lulu's is great! Karen and her team greet everyone with a smile and have some killer coffee drinks to boot. The Mexican chocolate is amazing. Sweet, spicy and juuuuust right! I love sitting in the window up front and soaking up some sun and reading. What a great way to spend a morning.
The breakfast items are great too! Granola, yogurt, bagels with everything on them. The quiche is awesome! I had a ham and tomato quiche that was to die for. Cheesy, salty, with a flaky crust. And this was a pretty dense piece of breakfast goodness! I've also tried the orange mocha, which was great also. I just love the whole atmosphere.
Great service, great products, great cafe! -

Gave this place two goes. I live a few blocks away and the thought of having a good local coffee place within walking distance seemed great. The first time I ordered a sugar free latte for my wife who is diabetic and when I got it home for her we found out it wasnt sugar free. Kinda a pain but mistakes happen. Last night my wife got food posioning and I went down there to get some juice this morning for her. I grabbed two naked mangos and called it good. When I got home I realized that they had expired two days ago! Most likely fine but telling someone with a upset stomach that expired juice is okay is tough. I dont think I will be going back to this place, but I can say I did give it a couple tries. Oh well

I love that Lulu has such a large menu for such a small spot. The bagels and bagel sandwhiches are a must for me on any road trip that starts in the morning.
The coffee is also good and the coffee drinks are consistent. I love the atmosphere, as long as it isn't crowed. It's cozy and charming.
I can't give five stars for two reasons: The place is so small, it's hard to even get in there to order because of the tables right in front of the counter, and for this reason the service can be really slow. Recently, I waited almost 20 minutes for a bagel and a drip coffee.Listed in: Wallingford Wanderings-All…

I had a soy almond mocha and it was heaven in a paper cup...
A quaint little spot, just oh so perfect to drop by and grab your favorite caffeinated drink before stepping out into the rain for a brisk walk.
I certainly don't mind the rain but my latte made me feel oh so warm and sunny inside:) -

I do what I can to support local businesses and given that Cafe Lulu is in my new hood, I was looking forward to a long-term relationship with their coffee and baked goods. On my first visit I was greeted by a scowl from the barista..."how dare you bother me" was written all over her face. Fighting off the urge to leave, I ordered an Americano and not once did the barista make eye contact with me or utter a word despite my being the only one in the place. To top it off, I wasn't thanked by her upon paying.
I decided to give the place one more chance so a few days later I got pretty much the same treatment from a different barista. I don't need to be sucked up to but cripes, how about at least a thank-you and dare I suggest some eye contact and maybe a hello.
I recommend not going here unless you're one of those sorts that equates bad vibes with quality. -

I have left smiling every time I've gone to Cafe Lulu. The coffee is great, the service was warm, and the shop is cozy. I've had wonderful vanilla lattes and have enjoyed delicious bagel sandwiches.
They have a tempting case of baked goods.
It is a great atmosphere for doing homework (with wi-fi) as well as a great atmosphere for having a coffee date or meeting with friends.
The owner, with the brown curly hair, is SO sweet and welcoming. She befriends her customers and is very involved in her business. I would choose to go here over other Seattle coffee shops any day.
I highly recommend it. -

I'll give this place 5 for two things: they serve Lucky Charms and they know what they are and limit themselves to that.
You won't be wowed by a smaller cafe ladro/zoka, it's just a nice little coffee shop. They serve the types of items you'd find in a shop like this. They do good bagel breakfast sandwiches and have a few cookies they make themselves.
The staff are really nice and the owner is around. They don't try to be more than they are. For that, I'll give them 5. It's a nice alternative to Zoka every day. -

I really want to like this place. It's so close to my house and super convenient near the highway entrance. That being said, the ladies behind the counter are simply not friendly. The lady with the brown curly hair does not make eye contact, never says hello and never says goodbye. However, I am always pleased when she is running the register as she does not know how to make lattes. The blond making the coffee is nice enough--nothing to put a smile on my face. On those mornings when I'm running late, and don't have time to make my own latte, I pop in here as it's on my way to work. But I always feel bad and guilty after wards. Sigh,

'greets everyone with a smile?' are you kidding? this place is cute, charming, great. neighborhood joint.. except for years, on my occasional visits, i get the most negative vibes from the staff. would it kill them to feign some basic human cheer? i am pleasantly greeted at every cool cafe in seattle except this one, where they are just so consistently surly that i usually go elsewhere. so lulu, i feel the same way about you, too.

Cafe Lulu's is a great coffee shop with a cozy and hometown feel. Every time I walk in I am greeted with a cheerful smile and a warm hello for the baristas. They have great coffee and amazing egg bagels, I have never had food that was not up to my satisfaction. It is a great place to sit, relax, and get homework done. I would prefer to get my coffee from Cafe Lulu rather than Starbucks. I just wish Cafe Lulu was closer to my house, I would be there a lot more often.
