3 reviews for Café Lago
This was a great little place to go to breakfast in Lakeway. It was very country-feeling and quaint. I really appreciated that I could order espresso shots to go in my coffee.
I'm a sucker for blueberry pancakes, and I was pleased with theirs. They were not the best that I've had (I can't find a place that will beat Omlettry's), but they definitely are better than common breakfast places. The hubby ordered an omelet that came with sausage, green bell peppers, and onions. We both noted that the omelet was more like a scramble with just a tiny bit of cheese. The sausage was also greasy which is not my preference. Their homefries were okay, cubed bits of potato either grilled or baked. The potatoes were not consistently cooked all the way, but it was edible.
For the price, this place is definitely worth going to. I really do wish they would put something on the bottom of the chair legs though because the sound of the heavy chairs scraping the floor was incredibly loud and disruptive.
Apparently if you live out in the Lakeway area, there are almost no restaurants that serve breakfast, save this one. Not only do they serve breakfast, they do a WONDERFUL job.
They have your hearty egg varieties just like any other breakfast cafe (the migas looked awesome), a wonderful selection of omelettes, pancakes, as well as lighter/healthier fare. Their lattes were spot on and the atmosphere was a very cozy country-style.
The most impressive thing here was the SERVICE. Not only were they prompt, timely, they got EVERY DETAIL right, down to not mixing up the soy latte with the milk latte, down to substituting fruit for toast and homefries for sausage..etc. Most every restaurant would goof up detailed orders, not this one.
Prompt, smiling service and your delicious healthy hearty food is served HOT. If I'm ever in this area, I'd be back again in a heartbeat.
This place belongs in my former neighborhood list section, being that the first time I went to it was in third grade when I rode my bike there for a fruit smoothie. It has gone through changes through the years but has always remained a solid place for gooood coffee, excellent breakfast and even a really good lunch place with an abundance of different types of salads and sandwiches. Dan Rather used to frequent this little cafe when he lived nearby. I don't know how that does for celebrity status, but if you ask me, Dan Rather is pretty swell so that, in turn, makes this place awesome. But seriously, if you are ever in the Lakeway area (because its so hoppin....and that just had a hint of sarcasm in it) stop by! Its on the way to Lakeway Marina so a good place to fuel up.
