I gotta give this place a 5 star for the fab customer service, the charming owner Angelina and the adorable space!
I had the Beef Gyro and it was good, I would suggest fresh homemade pita might make this Gyro into a HERO, nonetheless still tasty! Great baklava too!
I hear people get a KICK outta her coffee (all fair trade mind you), so I will be going back!
El Cerritans get off your butts and get down to Kik's! Support our local eateries! -

I've only been here once. I ordered a specialty coffee. The guy behind the counter told me he doesn't know how to make one. I looked at him like he was crazy! He told me was sorry , but the only thing he knows how to make was hot coco.

I agreed.
Although the hot coco was good, I can't believe they have some workers that don't know how to make certain things. -

Gee, I'm sorry to give this place a bad review, seeing as others have apparently had better experiences. I'm always looking for good wifi cafes to take my writing breaks at. I've passed by this place a number of times and this morning thought I'd give it a try.
The man behind the counter was nice enough, though not exactly present between talking on his phone and running to the back room. Awfully busy for the 2 people that were quietly trying to enjoy the place.
The atmosphere was pleasant on the surface, clean and nicely decorated. But in reality it just feels kinda dark and lifeless. The TV was blaring Channel 4 news, which was pretty much anathema to someone who wants to sip coffee and write. Sadly the cappuccino couldn't even save the experience. It was one of the worst I can remember in a long time. The foam was "chunky" and full of bubbles, and the milk was so hot it had that burnt smell and was too hot to drink for the 15 minutes I was in there. The toasted bagel was fine as toasted bagels go, but the flimsy paper plate and cream cheese in a plastic cup just added to the unwelcoming atmosphere, and I couldn't wait to pack up my laptop and go home.
Sadly disappointing. -

when i came into cafe kiks, some guy was chopping celery or something. menu looks like salads, breakfast, organic coffee, pastries.
i was staring at the pastries which was a muffin, some miniscones, and something else. the guy must have read my mind. he brought out a new batch of organic blueberry muffins. they looked different, definitely wasn't from costco.
took one (2.25). it was so tasty and moist, had plenty of blueberries. some sweetness too.
4 stars for the muffin and the service. -

they now have more of a mediterrean cuisine. The place looks really nice.
Food was good. I want to support our small businesses that have such a hard time with all the chain restaurants!
the lady running it is thoughtful.1 Previous Review: Show all »

The owner and his wife are so sweet! Organic baked goods were amazing too. They had a strong wifi connection, excess electrical plugs and awesome organic coffee. We approve!

So I guess this place was Maggie's before, but it is now called Cafe Kiks. Can't compare it with Maggie's, since my dad and I stumbled on it accidentally after arriving for our tax advising appointment early. (Why do get tax advising in El Cerrito? Don't ask me, it's just the way it is)
Anyway, this place was fine, just fine. I got a coffee black and a chocolate croissant. The woman was kind enough to warm it up for me (in a toaster oven, not a microwave, thank you!) and gave me a comfy blue mug. See, Red Rock (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), it's not so hard!
I'm not going to say the coffee was fantastic or that the croissant reminded me of Paris. But it served its purpose and it might be the best El Cerrito has to offer, for all I know. Anyway, if you're in the area and need a comfy place to drink a cup of coffee, Cafe Kiks should do you just fine!Listed in: Coffee Rants and Raves

This used to be JR Muggs cafe which was fantastic with great staff and service.
Since owners changed it seems like something weird is going on here. They gave it a face lift inside, but changed the outside windows so you can hardly see what you are walking in to. The owner or worker never seems very confident in making an espresso drink and they don't seem to be very interested in service. Often the proprietor is busy on the cell phone with customers waiting. Almost seems like there something else going on behind the scene. Stay tuned I guess. -

The woman is nice but really slow getting the food ready. The first time i went i ordered the cranberry scone-she microwaved it for me-it was ok. Not the best. I went there yeste rday and ordered the Casear Salad ($4.36) it took her like 10 mins. to just make the salad. She had a big box for the salad and even said a slice of bread comes with it. I asked for the buttermilk bread. When i finally got a chance to open and eat it-boy was i disappointed. The serving was so small that i took one bite and just saved the rest for dinner. I made grilled chicken sandwich with yam fries. The salad became the lettuce i needed for our sandwich for dinner. What a bummer i really wanted to like the place. I'm still in search for a good cafe in the neighborhood.

This cafe is just the place to hangout on a lazy afternoon with outdoor seating, great coffee and scones. Wait staff is very warm and friendly. Musicians are welcome as they do not blast the radio and are encouraged to add musical ambience.
