This place is awesome.  Sabine is the gorgeous restaurant owner and mastermind behind it.  Really cool lighting and seating.  Some nights they have live music too - like Spanish guitar!  She has some really great people working with her.

I think my most favorite thing there is this Russian potato salad.  It's SOOOO freaking good.  All of the canapes are awesome - my favorites involve caviar/fish roe, of course.  They have food from all over Europe/Eastern Europe/Russia.  It's fabulous.

OH! And canapes are regularly $2.50 but at happy hour, you can enjoy them often for just $1. What a deal!

The best part is the VIP table in the restaurant which is a big, cushy, cozy spot where you pay a small fee. Why? Well because it's the charity table!  I'm not positive, but I think it's $5 and 100% of the $5 you pay to eat here will go to a local featured charity of the month. In addition to your $5 donation, 10% of your bill will also go to that charity. If it's at dinner time you pay $10 instead of $5 but again, 10% of your total bill from eating at this table goes to a local charitable foundation. Pretty awesome idea.

I'm really proud to have such a great international spot on Capitol Hill.  Yay!  I seriously have to get my butt out and over there asap, it's been awhile.

Cafe Kanape is really a gem, and conveniently located right off the end of Broadway.  The atmosphere is romantic and cute (with excellent choice in the art hanging on the walls, I might add) but unassuming.  Their food is wonderful, especially the signature kanapes themselves - delicious tiny bites of bread and amazing toppings; the buffalo mozarella and truffled mushroom ones are my favorites.  The service is friendly, unpretentious, and kind.

I actually chose this place to have my most recent birthday party.  I talked to the owner the day before, and she was super-accomodating - she even kept the place open later than usual just for us.  We had about 30 people over the course of 3 hours; the owner and other staff attended to our every need and really made it a wonderful experience.  Several of my friends remarked at how much they liked the place, though they'd never heard of it before; I think they'll be back with more friends.

If you live in the neighborhood, you absolutely must give this place a try; even if you don't, it's well worth visiting for a romantic dinner or drinks with a kanape or two on the side!

I love this place, very cozy and authentic to the European café feel.  I have never been disappointed by their food or service.  I visit here at least once a week if not more.  Very friendly to my 6 year old when I bring her in, even hung up some of her artwork :).

The food is amazing, try their savory crapes.

Really cool concept and place, which is very unique and fun.  Kanapes are small  bites of goodness, and I tried three of them - lox. egg salad. dill. lemon; Swedish herring. egg. onion. gherkin; and Italian salami. gherkin. basil sauce.  All were really tasty, and I really liked the herring.  There is a good selection of cocktails, and one beer on draft (many more in bottles).  My only criticism might be that the wine by the glass selection isn't  the most exciting but it will do.  But on a sunny afternoon, there is nothing better than enjoying a few drinks and bites here before the crowds, sitting by one of the large windows or on the small sidewalk patio.

I go here to drink beer and flirt with the women at the bar. Good happy hour drinks and free wi-fi. I'll go here just to get out of the house for a beer while i finish up random left over work. I haven't eaten much, but the crepes are great and the salads are solid.

Growing pains. This business has not found its stride.

Staff has no clue. Waiter ran to the owner 4 times when i asked simple questions about the menu. Ingredients are sub-par. They claim to have live music on saturdays but we're listening to pandora.

Ended up ordering tea and baguette. How hard is it to serve a hot cup of tea? Tea is cold and baguette is stale.

Should have gone to Roy street cafe next door.

I've been back here a few times, especially for their happy hour, and this has turned into one of my favorite go-to spots on the Hill.  I crave their forestier pate (pork and mushroom) baguette, the crepes are to die for, and the canapes themselves are also quite good.  Happy hour runs from 5-7 and with half off crepes and $4 well drinks (plus specials on beer and wine), make an affordable restaurant even better.  I asked if they had ruby red grapefruit juice to make a grayhound, as I don't care for the standard white variety.  The waitress checked and informed us that they had pink grapefruit juice, so I tried it and it was fantastic.

Of my last four visits, the service was slow the first time, but I was visiting with a friend so we were more than happy to linger - and much more on top of things, and friendly! the other three.

I absolutely adore Cafe Kanape and I hope they stick around for a long time to come.

Bonus: they have (limited) free parking in the garage!

Stopped in for coffee with a friend when Roy Street Coffee & Tea was packed with students studying for finals. We were full from a late brunch so all we sought was a little caffeine. The waitress/barista was pleasant enough and checked on us often. Decent music selection (Gypsy Kings). The floral arrangements were beautiful but I have to admit the decor was a little over the top for my tastes.

Their menu intrigued me. It offered canapés, crêpes, and various soups + salads from places like Latvia, Russia, and Armenia. Had I not eaten a hearty breakfast, I might have asked my friend to split the lobster macaroni and cheese with some salads. I'd return here and try out the food. There was limited garage parking and provided it's not prime bar hours, I think you could find parking within a short walking distance.

Great crepes, and kanapes. Staff is friendly and helpful with suggestions and  requests. Haven't had the brunch there but have been told it is definetly worth trying. Great selection of Euro beers, and wines. Nice friendly laid back vibe. Happy hour is best time to check it out as they have a great selection at more than reasonable prices.

I had high hopes for this restaurant. My friends and I had been looking forward to trying it out for weeks. So we finally went last night for happy hour.

What a let down.  We had some of the worst service I have ever had in Seattle.

The food took forever to make. It was fine, just your standard crepes and canapes. The sangria was ok (not the "Best Sangria in Town" as the sandwich board outside proclaims).

The place was not busy--there were only four other people in the whole restaurant-- yet our waitress was slow, flustered and dishonest.

It seemed like she forgot to place some of our orders, and when we asked when they were coming, she gave an excuse about how we ordered after other people and so we have to wait. This is fine, I understand how a "first-come, first-served" policy works. But she brought out the second round of food before some items in the first round of food that we had ordered 1/2 an hour earlier. Then we heard her go back to the kitchen and ask the chef to make the forgotten crepe.

We had to ask for the restroom key twice. The first time she said she would get it for us and just came back with the bill. The second time we asked, she said someone was in there and I would have to wait until they're finished. At that point I just gave her my credit card, paid and ran home to use my own toilet.

The two hours we spent there (should have been one, tops, honestly) were very disappointing and I will absolutely not return.

I really love Kanape! Not only is the staff great and very personable, but I am hooked on their excellent happy hour. It's hard to miss since happy hour is from 4-7pm 7 days a week. I have yet to venture from the happy hour specials (1/2 off crepes and $1.50 Kanape's), as I've always stopped in around that time, but I do have to say their dinner entrees sound very delicious and from the ones I've seen on the neighboring tables they look great as well.

The indoor seating is very cozy and relaxing and for those sparse nice days we've had I have enjoyed their new outdoor seating. I've stopped by several times to just have coffee and sit outside and use the WiFi, which does work very well and is much faster than the WiFi at Roy Street Coffee.

Cafe Kanape was a suprising treat. As a regular at Roy Street Coffee and Tea, I've walked past Kanape a million times. I've looked over the menu several times and even drooled a bit, but never committed to trying it out. Let me just say, its going to be dangerous having such a good crepe and canape spot so conveniently located.

We strolled in during happy hour and enjoyed many of the food and drink specials. We each ordered a variety of canapes and crepes and as a group, we shared. By far, the organic mushroom, organic baby spinach, truffle oil, and chevre savory crepe was the best. After the first bite, I couldn't believe I had just eaten that. DELICIOUS! I would also highly recommend the lox canape and the nutella crepe.

There is no doubt that as I walk from Roy Street after a cup of coffee or a good book that I'll stop in and get a snack, or invite someone to enjoy a meal with me.

If there were a way to say more nice things about Kanape (& it's owners / staff) I would in a heartbeat!!
The food is FANTASTIC! And if you like making your buck stretch the "extra mile", like I do, then you too will be in love!
Here's the skinny; 5 star food, 6 star service, 5.4 stars for the space, & 4 stars for wifi reliability. Add all that to fantastic outdoor seating, some of the best locals around, major points for authentic European fit & feel....and you've got yourself a new favorite restaurant in the heart of Seattle's cultural hub!!

Again, I couldn't rave with enough eloquence if I had a PHD in creative writing!

As a local restaurant reviewer recently wrote, "Cafe Kanape strikes a leisurely continental pose, removed from the city street, yet archly observing it through a swath of window..."  This place is a gem of good food with some nice twists and changes from other spots near and far.  The use of Eastern European herbs and spices throughout the menu is exciting.  Plates are beautifully presented and full of tasty food whether it is a baguette sandwich, a crepe, or one of the entrees such as stuffed cabbage leaves.  Service is just about as pleasant and informed as you will get any where and helps keep an informal atmosphere.  Sabine, owner, bar tender, barrista, server is well suited to this place.  A bit continental, a bit reserved and, yet, a bit of flair.  We're fans of hers .  I found some of the food could be served hotter: the borscht was far too cool for my tastes; even the stuffing in the crepes should be warmer.  Sabine thanked us for our comment on food temperature and we expect next time that will be corrected.  One odd dish: a marinated vegetable salad.  The marinade/sauce was good.  The little pickle pieces were a nice crunch.  I just can't imagine why they use canned peas in this salad.  The color is off and the texture is as one remembers from grade school.  I will always opt for an alternative.  That being said, we anxiously wait for our next trip to Cafe Kanape.

Cafe Kanape offers cozy ambiance with a great variety of plates.  Prices are so affordable that you can test out your appetite with a canapé, then graduate to a crepe or tasty bowl of mac n' cheese if your appetite demands it.

The happy hour is phenomenal with generous crepe portions that thankfully, don't skimp because the prices have been sliced in half.

Sabina, the owner is a doll and her staff, lovely.  Free Wi-Fi is just one more reason to drop by -- early morning for a cuppa Joe and sweet crepe or later in the day for a savory crepe and glass of vino.

The romantic corner booth with a curtain is not to be missed for all you lovers who want a little privacy, but aren't ready to rent that room or go home yet.

I think I found a new favorite hideout.

Let's get to the good stuff... there's a lot of it!

Thursdays they have wine tastings for just $5, they have a full bar regularly and you can order food from all over. I was tempted to try as much as I could just so I could learn more about world cuisine. Whether it's a canape from Austria, Borscht from Russia, Jurmala from Latvia, Ararart from Armenia, Doina from Moldova, or Praha from the Czech Republic, the menu is varied and TASTY! I loved every single thing I ate. Especially the honey walnut crepe. OMG.

Wanna know my fave part though? there's a VIP table in the restaurant. If you'd like to eat at this big, cushy, cozy spot you have to pay a fee. Why? Well because it's the charity table! If you're there for lunch and you decide to sit here, it's just $5 and 100% of the $5 you pay to eat here will go to a local featured charity of the month. In addition to your $5 donation, 10% of your bill will also go to that charity. If it's at dinner time you pay $10 instead of $5 but again, 10% of your total bill from eating at this table goes to a local charitable foundation. How cool is that?

I'm really excited to have found this spot on the Hill. I'm even more excited it's so close to home.

OH! And canapes are reg $2.350 each but during happy hour their just $1. What a steal!

Kanape has a happy hour Monday-Friday 4-6pm where the crepes are 50% off... which makes them $2-4.

I didn't discover that until after I came to check out brunch. They have a full bar and reasonably priced drinks, a long list of savory and sweet crepes, egg dishes, and vegetarian options.

Our food arrived within 5 minutes and was quite good. Our server was really friendly and even gave us each a free glass of their tasty sangria... apparently it's just been added to the menu.

It's located in the fancypants condo-turned-overpriced-apartments thing that houses Starbucks' attempt to pretend it isn't Starbucks (Roy Street Coffee)... so, as befits it, it's a little on the yuppie side appearance-wise. However, it's no more expensive than any other brunch place in the neighborhood, plays decent music, and has comfy booths.

Brunch ends at 3pm but they continue to serve a long list of crepes until 2am, and most crepes are brunch-like anyway.

It wasn't very crowded and I suspect not many people know it exists yet, which is pretty cool if you want to get brunch quickly but don't want to go someplace bad.

They are the first restaurant I've seen to have an mobile-specific website... when I went to visit it from Yelp, it displayed a minimal iphone-like menu that allowed me to quickly access the information I wanted (menu items, address, etc.) I really appreciated that... so many restaurants have horrible flash websites and you have to download a PDF to look at the menu.

Very charming but definitely a somewhat slower pace. The "new brunch menu" is also somewhat confusing, because some things are called "lemon and sugar," as an example, with no mention of the fact that it's a crepe.

How I adore this charming, artsy, incredibly affordable cafe serving delicious and beautiful food, right around the corner from the Harvard Exit Theatre. My favorite is the curtained nook just to the right of the entrance, but I'm happy at any table. Sabine has created a wonderful environment here, and I'm really enjoying introducing my friends to it. My favorites so far are the breakfast crepe and borscht, but I look forward to exploring many more of the delights on the menu in the future.

If I based this review on their Sangria alone, I would give them 5 stars. Their sign doesn't lie. It's the best Sangria in town. Their lobster macaroni and cheese (made with Gruyere) was very good also, as were the canapes we had. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit flat. This is a very cute bistro bar with interesting decor, which happens to serve food (mostly crepes). I found the service a bit on the slow side and the server, although very nice, didn't seem concerned with serving customers. When we got there, there was only one other person there and when we left there were only 4 others in the restaurant. No menus were brought to our table for more than 5 minutes, no water was offered.

I  would recommend Kanape if you are looking for a good drink and a nosh. If you are very hungry or in a hurry, go somewhere else. There is a lot to choose from on Seattle's Capital Hill.

My friend and I came here for breakfast after a long Friday night.
Needless to say, the bloody mary became an essential part of our morning.
The handsome bartender did not disappoint us. My friend said that it was the best bloody mary he'd ever had. I'd say mine was up there too.
I ordered the egg la gruyere crepe. Oh man! It was savory and beautifully prepared. The egg inside the crepe is spread out with the cheese giving a rich creamy filling to the perfectly cooked crepe. This is all topped with creme fraiche and freshly chopped herbs. Oh, I can't wait to go back for more.
My friend ordered 4 of the canapes. The adorable chef came out to have a quick chat with us and he asked her if she could just choose the best 4 and make them for him. He was so pleased with her canapes that he wanted to order 4 more.
All in all, the staff here is amazing (Alejandro, Jugo, & Angela), the food is great, and the ambiance is modern and fun.

For what looks like a wine bar from the outside, I was very displease with their offerings.  The food menu looked to be reasonable, but I did not stay long enough to even want food. The wait staff was more interested in chatting with their friends in the alcove to the right than caring for the few tables that was filled with customers.

Personally, I will not be going back to this place.

Very disappointing. I brought a visitor to this place today - there were a total of  three.  The bartender seated us and gave us the menus but no one came back to take our order, offer us any drinks or water, or let us know they would be with us soon to take our order.  We waited for at least 10 minutes.  A server also passed us without acknowledging us.  It wasn't busy at all since the other two parties were basically done with their food.  Bartender didn't say anything to us as we walked away.  Too bad, I had high hopes for this place.

Outstanding sqaure crepes. We had the mushroom crepe and 4 canapes for dinner and the cinammon and sugar crepe for dessert. The canapes were just okay but the crepes were very good.  They were served in a square shape which was odd but the flavors were just right.  Best of all our total bill was just $15 since we came during the late happy hour. One of the better values I've had, highly recommend.

This place has alot of charm and reminds me of a locals style cafe in Paris.
It has great lighting, decor and friendly staff. They have fairly priced food but great happy hour pricing.

I've been there a few times and their food is always great. Their crepes are always fresh and great. Exotic ingredients help keep the menu fresh and offers alot of variety.

The canapes are very very small, so don't order them and think you can get a full meal. They are fun and tasty appetizers.

Their bar is amazing!!! Love their happy hour prices and great selection of drinks. Their Sangria is Phenom!

My main gripe is that there is no Consistancy on particular drinks. The sangria is great some days and other days, not so much. It would be nice if you could always get the same quality. Not saying it's ever bad... Just some times, it's only decent.

In a nutshell: This is place for locals and tourists alike to get some good drinks on the cheap. And a crepes anytime! They are open late.

First of all, I'm writing this brief mention because the businesses in this location fail so often, and this place seems like it has a lot of potential! I seem to want things to work out for Cafe Kanape.
I was curious when I saw the sign out front advertising Borscht - The Eastern-Euro slant became apparent. I really want to try their Russian salad, since I love that concoction of diced veg, meat, mayo and dill. It just seems quite novel to see this kind of cuisine on Broadway.
I only stopped in to test a Canape - with shrimp spread, egg, caviar and dill. It was a delightful "pick me up."  Creamy, salty, briny, and pretty as well. The only thing that was a bit of a letdown was the bread. It was an OK brown rye which would have been much improved if toasted.  (is that sacreligious as far as canape's go?)
I will be back to more fully sample the salads, borscht, etc.

i almost got tricked into going here again recently. i was with friends and we were already tipsy (you'd have to be drunk in order to even WANT to go here) and thought i could handle this sh*t-hole for at least one drink.
well, as we were about to go in at around 11pm, we saw that there were only three customers in there and they WERE ALL SMOKING!
    how disgusting! and illegal!
we should've taken photos and reported it to the police. next time we will! needless to say, we just kept walking.. as should you.

Cafe Kanape is an alright place.  Service is not the fastest.  Food is just ok.  I really liked the borscht.  We tried a few of the kanapes.  The truffle spread was probably the best.  We also split the lobster mac n cheese.  It was a bit underwhelming.  The atmosphere is great and drinks are fine, but I don't think I be back anytime soon.

It is a great cafe. I am so happy I finally found a cafe that serves European style of breakfast. You should definitely try this place.

I love Cafe Kanape.  It's a new bistro on the north end of Broadway that's doing everything right.  Lots of healthy options as well as some true comfort food and stews for those long PNW nights.  I've been there a few times already and tonight when I went there was a subtle shift in the air and a few raindrops.  The covered patio with umbrellas for ambiance were an oasis away from a drizzle but it was such a warm evening, I enjoyed the patio.  In case some guests required a bit more, they'd left a soft fleece blanket on every chair for diners choosing al fresco.  Love.  I'll be back and hope to see you there!

The food and atmosphere is great here. Plus, the owner is one the most sweetest people you will ever meet. She recognizes you when you come back and really cares about making her restaurant the best cafe experience you will ever have. She also leaves blankets on all the chairs outside on cold days. I think my wife and I will be regulars here

I went to Kanape on a Wednesday evening with 6 of my colleagues. Although the prices were great, the service was TERRIBLE. I wouldn't go back to Kanape, solely based on how slow the service was. There was no one else in the restaurant for the entire night, and still the service was slow.

We asked about the cheeses for the cheese plate, the server didn't know so he had to ask the kitchen what cheeses they had that day. The server came back and informed us that they didn't have very good cheeses; a Camembert, a Gruyere and a few others. We proceeded to order 2 cheese plates, and the charcuterie plate for the table of 7. Not only were the cheeses NOT a Camembert or a Gruyere, these were cheeses that must have been purchased from the gas station across the street. They still had portions of the red wrapper/casing sticking to the cheeses. No bread or crackers were served with the cheese either. Just tiny slices of gas station cheese.

When the food came out, no one brought us any plates for the tables or a place to put the pits from the olives.

We realized we needed to start ordering drinks and food in bulk, since it was taking so long to be served anything. When entrées were finally served, 3 people got their meal at a time, leaving everyone else without food for another 20-30 minutes.

We realize this is a small cafe and items are mostly made to order, however, for food to be so slow to come out of the kitchen is embarrassing. It's uncomfortable when half the table is eating, and the other half is left there starving and waiting.

None of us will be visiting this place again. Such a disappointment!
