I have visited Cafe Kacao about four times now and I feel confident in telling anyone that they are a superb restaurant. I take friends there, I tell other people about them, and I go there whenever I can. I am so happy they decided to open for Sundays so I can have their tasty food for Sunday brunch!
Today I had their Carne Asada. It was excellent! The meat is charred just right, while also being amazingly tender. I don't know how they do that. The black beans are always a hit with my three-year-old daughter. And the green sauce is the yummiest thing since mass amounts of sriracha. My husband always gets their Tikal Breakfast; always sings the praises of their fried plantains.
The only item on the menu I have ever been less than thrilled with is the "Russian Salad". Composed of potatoes, peas, celery, and red pepper, it tastes just a bit too much like my mother's pea salad for me. It's a perfectly well composed and traditional salad, I just personally don't enjoy it.
Their mango juice, which is my favorite, is super refreshing; and today my daughter had their cantaloupe licuados and it was all smooth, sweet melon flavor, and frothy milk. Liquid delicious. I notice on their online menu that they some times have Honeydew Melon Licuados, that sounds fantastic.
The staff and their service is very friendly, hard working, and accommodating. The food they make is always fresh, and good, and surprisingly fast. How exactly does a place manage to pull off the trinity of things you can have (good, fast, or cheap)? I do not know.
I have one tiny request for Cafe Kacao though, maybe think about adding a couple of options for children? Most of the full meals are way too big for kids, and there really aren't enough side dishes to choose from to constitute a smaller meal. -

Oh, yay for some culture in OKC. With bright pink-multi-colored panchos underneath plastic covers for tablecloths, the cute little guatemalan cafe/restaurant was filled with hipsters during Sunday morning brunch, and oh you know how I enjoy that. The menu for brunch was simple and rich with possibility at the same time. The food is definitely good for people who love food. Feast away!
I wish they would have some lighter options and/or ones that were on the vegan side though. But that is just me. That is my main wish, but maybe they do and I just didn't look.
My friend and I shared the Huevos Rancheros and they give you so much food I would say it isn't a bad thing to share, although he said he was still hungry. Whatevah. Service was really awesome. It was sooooo busy, but the waiters were as attentive as I like them (which means you can access them, but they let you chill), and the atmosphere was really pleasant. Asian district. . . I love you more and more. Take me. -

My girlfriend and I eat here ever week, sometimes twice a week! We bring our friends, family and we always make sure our out of town company eats here before they leave.
All the food is wonderful, they use the freshest of ingredients and the service is outstanding.
But YOU MUST, without a doubt, ORDER the Motuleno!!!
When our friends come back to OKC, their only request before they leave is to eat at Kacao and have the Motuleno. -

At one time, I was married into a Honduran family that was serious about plantains. (White folk say plan-tanes but they said plan-tins. Or platanos.) I make a mean fried sweet plantain. I have been to places in Oklahoma where they say plantain on the menu but it's really just banana. THIS PLACE knows how to fry some plantains.
I usually get the Desiyun Chapin (I have to ask how to say it every time) which comes with eggs, refried black beans, cheese, plantains and fruit and my boo always gets the Migallas. If you really want a punch, go with the Migallas con Chorizo. Whew. It's delicious but I doubt you will be able to finish it.
This building has been everything from a Pizza Hut to a Tire Shop and so far this is the most successful business yet. At first I was worried they wouldn't get a lot of business because Cafe Antigua is a mile away and their sign was hard to read but they have been very successful and with the fantastic food they have been cranking out, they should be around for awhile. -

Boy, do I love Guatemalan breakfast food! I've tried Cafe Antigua too, and although its food is undeniably yummy too...I gotta give the award to best Guatemalan breakfast cafe in OKC to Cafe Kacao. It does everything right from speedy service to reasonable prices to excellent fried plantains and handmade tortillas! On Saturdays and Sundays, expect a full house from the time they open well into early afternoon. My favorite Cafe Kacao dishes are the Huevos motulenos (I ask for it to be made with handmade corn tortillas), Pork and cheese pupusas (this is a special, so it may not be there every day), Tikal breakfast, and the simple Fried plaintains side dish (I sprinkle sugar on them and dip them in sour cream). You CANNOT go wrong ordering any of these, and I've experienced plate envy when I see other diners trying things I have yet to try because I love these four dishes too much to experiment. The coffee is good, and I would love to try the Horchata (a cold rice milk vanilla/cinnamon-sugar drink) and the Atol de elote (a "Desert/Drink made of ground corn, cinnamon and milk" only served Fridays and Saturdays and usually sold out by the time we get there). As long as your dish is being made with a corn tortilla (i.e. all of the dishes I listed and most on the menu), it's naturally gluten free so bring your friends with gluten intolerance to Cafe Kacao where they will eat like Mayan Kings and Queens!

I'm obsessed with their Huevos Rancheros. They fry handmade corn tortillas and lay them on a plate covered with black beans, sunny-side-up eggs, ranchero sauce, pico de gallo, sour cream, and slices of avocado (which, by the way, is a million times better then guacamole.) This dish alone has made me fall in love with Café Kacao.
And their waitstaff makes me blush : )Listed in: Won't you be my Neighbor?, TOTP: Top Ten List -…

.The food here was honestly very good (my breakfast entrée kicked off a still-strong obsession with huevos rancheros, and my husband's came with plantains and I was really happy that he doesn't like them so I got to eat them ALL) and so was the coffee- but I have to knock off a star for the service. After our orders were taken, we did not see a server until another employee actually got to work and started working. After that, we didn't see him again until we went actively seeking him out when it was time to get the check and leave! Our original waitress and some of the other staff sat in the corner, playing with an iPad and completely ignoring everyone in the restaurant and everyone else who walked in. It was kind of mind-boggling. No one said a word after we paid up and left.

Dear Mom,
I know we used to go to the local greasy spoon for brunch. I really enjoyed the time we had there. Before I had been shown the light, I didn't know any better. But once my eyes were opened to the deliciousness that is Cafe Kacao and all its Guatemalan goodness, I can't go back. I know you don't like to change it up, but let's start with some amazing coffee, meet some of the friendly staff, try some french toast, maybe some huevos rancheros, maybe some migas, a little mosh... I don't know if we're going to have time. Remember when you were the one always coaxing me to try new things? Well all I can say is nom nom nom, mom.
Yours truly,
JP

So, I was excited to try Cafe Kacao after reading such great reviews, but my experience was bittersweet.
We arrived for Sunday brunch just before quite a line began to continuously form and we were seated fairly quickly. I started off with some delicious Guatemalan coffee, and ordered the Rachero Omelet with Guatemalan sausage. After about the 4th cup of coffee and watching the 4th table that sat down after us eat and leave, I was a bit grumpy. We asked our unapologetic waiter twice if there was a hold up, and he kept telling us they were working on our order as we spoke. We ended up waiting well over an hour for our food and almost left a few times to get SOMETHING besides coffee to consume. Finally, the food came out -- and it was truly tasty and delicious. The refried black beans and sausage and eggs were all done well, I would suggest the Izabal Breakfast, which I was also eating off of, but substitute plantains for potatoes.
I'm not sure I'll go back, although their food was very good in my opinion, only because a food experience is much more than the food that comes out. Its about the service. On that note, I understand mishaps that occur in food service, but if that should occur, the buttering up of your patrons should then begin. Most unfortunately, the delicious food was overruled by the bad taste left in my mouth from the service. -

I just spent a total of ten minutes here before leaving. Walked in and it looked cute enough; server said we could sit anywhere. And sit we did, totally ignored in a half empty diner, for about 10 minutes before my boyfriend had to stop a server from passing without acknowledging us for the billionth time. We went to Jeff's Country Cafe right across the street instead and had lovely service and a meal.

The food is fantastic. The mosh (oatmeal) and tostadas are especially yummy. The beans are vegetarian, but they could use more veg options for those who don't eat eggs.

Being three girls from LA and still on the west coast time we woke up at 1pm wanting breakfast. We found this place on yelp and decided to give it a chance. On saturdays the have a FANTASTIC French toast. Best we all have ever had, and we are big foodie snobs. Well done Cafe Kacao!

YUM! That is place is great! Free wifi and free imported coffee that is a delish. I was most impressed by the food. I enjoyed a cup of carrot soup that was perfectly seasoned and complimented my flautas. The flautas were crispy and light. The chicken was moist and well seasoned. The sauces complimented the dish well. The portion was just the right size. The staff is a friendly and the ambiance is more of a cool coffee shop environment which is a nice change from the cute but kitschy Cafe Antigua. The hot chocolate was a bit more Americanized for my taste but it was still rich and yummy. I will definitely be back!

This was a great little cafe. I went at an odd time of the day so I was the only one in there. All of the food looked really good, I will definitely be back to try more. They have only been open a couple of months, I hope next time I am in town it isn't a known hot spot so I can still enjoy my lunch in peace.

Delicious! Stumbled upon this place for breakfast while traveling through Oklahoma City. Was Intrigued by the idea of Guatemalan breakfast, and wasn't disappointed. Very friendly staff, reasonable prices. We had machaca, carne asada, and plenty of plantains. The green salsa was the perfect blend of sweet and hot. Great breakfasts all around! Clearly the only OKC restaurant I've been to that I'd want to import to Seattle....

We go to OKC for OU football games and found this place to eat breakfast via Yelp. It is great. Awesome coffee and fabulous food. Nothing fancy. Friendly waiters. Gets crowded quickly. We live 250 miles away but it will be on our list of places to eat from now on while traveling to the City.

Great to find an authentic feeling Guatemalan restaurant in Oklahoma City! The restaurant has a nice open feel to the dining area, with big windows and simple, style-y decor. The staff offered excellent service despite being really busy with a bustling lunch rush. I had breakfast which was delicious. My dad ordered a steak, which was quite chewy, almost inedible chewy. Stick with eggs, beans and rice and you'll be delighted!

What a cute place. The service was great, as always. The food - flavorful!!! I had the Huevos Rancheros. My coworker had the Carne Asada, which seemed to be a favorite, because the people around me were ordering it left and right. If you like Cafe Antigua, you will love this place, since it's like a sister restaurant for the family that owns the original restaurant. The only bad thing i can say is that i wish they stayed open later. Other than that, nothing. Oh and their coffee is awesome.
