I really like this place!! I always come here with people that have never been before because they're always into the decor. It's kind of difficult to spot this place (I always pass it by), but it's on the right side of Western right before 5th and right after you pass I Love Boba.
The interior is charming - looks like a ship, and it's decorated with Titanic pictures (yes, Jack is for Jack from Titanic). It is pretty cheesy but the seats are comfortable and roomy, perfect for hanging out with friends after dinner.
I've only gotten the Green Tea Bingsoo here and while it's not the best I've ever had (seriously they could put more ice cream on it), it's big enough (four people can share one for $9.95) for dessert and the waitstaff here is friendly! Haven't tried any coffee/tea or the food because it's a tad overpriced and I just hit this place up for dessert.
Although I'm on a quest to try as many K-town cafes to find the best bingsoo, I return to Cafe Jack over and over again for a consistently good time.
One word description: Ship
Pro:
Cute place
Buffet
Con:
Buffet
Price
I guess this was a coffee shop but now they serve a buffet of korean dishes. The food is ok but the price is kinda high for what they serve. I think they should just stick to coffee
Cost: Dinner per person
$20
What?!!! A pirate boat in the middle of K-town?!! The sound of it was intriguing enough for me the check it out. Whether if its drinks or non alcoholic drinks, it's super rare for me to go into k-town. But, in this rare occasion my bestie and I decided to do the unusual and grab some tea here. There's valet in the front entrance, bingo! not to expensive bingo bingo! They'll give you one of those papered coupon tabs (super easy to lose! that tab is so small it'll get lost anywhere you put it.. i swear!). not bingo..
We go in and get the table on the roofed patio. It really does look like a pirate ship, I totally digged the interior, something very different from the usual clean cut modern pinkberry themed interior. The music, of course was korean, no one was sitting at the patio - it was super quiet. It took absolutely forever for us to order our drinks, I mean yes we were in the back where no one else was but, please don't forget about the people in the back room if you are going to don't put them in the back! After 20 minutes passed we finally ordered our teas.
The tea wasn't bad at all, they had a really wide selection from cold to hot to sweets to korean food. But for some hot water and a tea bag, I felt the price was a bit steep for koreatown.
If bad service and expensive pricing wasn't enough to give Cafe Jack an average rating, this following incident really put it below the average means. As my bestie and I are catching up sipping our tea, we got a neighbor. After 5 minutes of not noticing who they were, the woman absolutely made herself noticed. Totally butting into our conversation, she initiated to introduce herself. After series of questions and compliments as how old are you, what are you doing, and your so cute, she prompted us and asked if we wanted to work as a hostess at a karaoke bar... seriously?! Sorry to all the hostess' out there but we were absolutely so very breathtakingly offended. Not too sure what initiated her to talk to us, first of all we weren't even speaking korean, secondly we weren't even in the hostessy attire, thirdly we are ahem "educateddd"... After refusing her on the offer multiple times, she did keep on mentioning that we can study in the afternoon and work at night.
Wow, a NRB recruiter... totally uncool, never knew one was out. So, all you ladies out there Beware of the Cafe Jack pirate ship you might get invaded by hostess recruiters.
props to being open until 3.
but... that's about it.
$7.41 for 1 cup of tea.
took 2 people to ring me up.
sketchy, semi-lit area of Koreatown.
I would say the place is ok but the only complain i have with this place is the pricing. The prices are kind of expensive for just a coffee and tea so i suggest if you guys can find a better place go there but worst comes to worst and especially if its late cafe jack would be your last resort.
Recommendation: Coffee and Teas!!
I just stumbled upon this place today while looking for a place to read my GMAT book. It is the most cutest place ever!! I love it. I would probably go back in the night time so i can check out the ambiance at night. I really like the Christmas decor and the Korean Love Songs... it just sets the mood. I didn't really eat, i only had drinks. So i can't rate the food but i can rave about the ambiance (as you have noticed).
Can anyone guess why it is a coffee place named Jack? 4..3...2....1.....okay i will tell you, it came out of the movie... da da daaaaaa.. Titanic.. like Jack and Rose.. Jack you know.. leonardo dicaprio.. and their love for each other.. all mixed together to make a coffee place that has a pool table and piano and karaoke.interesting huh? well go check it out.. you won't be let down.. it is pretty nice.. a cup of reg. coffee.. approx. $5. So enjoy.. you don't have to keep purchasing.. i only got a cup of coffee but i stayed for about 2 hrs. so it is not like other coffee places in k-town.. so a high five on that.
Took me long enough to finally visit this Titanic modeled coffee shop. I think the cafe is very charming, though slightly cheesy. Parking sucks, so try to find street parking. As far as interior decor, this place is the second best in L.A., perhaps only losing to Sanjang (which is not as cheesy).
The prices pierced through my wallet, but that's what you expect in a Coffee shop in Ktown. I had the Oreo shake, and although it wasnt that big, it was very very very good.
To quote Adam Sandberg, "I'm on a boat!"
It took me a while to get the theme of this beached ship sitting on Western Ave. until I walked in and noticed all the movie still from Titanic on the walls. Cheesy but forgivable. When I came in I was starved it was after a doctors appointment where I couldn't eat a thing all day. I had spicy udon, pork katsu and a citron tea. The udon was freaking tasty! Perfectly spiced and with a ton of noddles and bits of seafood mixed in. The katsu was okay but I can name a few places where I have had it prepared better. And the tea was just to tart... Maybe some people like it that way but in my opinion it stung the teeth a little to much.
I wasn't sure what tea I wanted to try. There were way to many choices to count. Trial and error isn't the best way to go about these decisions I should have asked for a sample first. The prices weren't bad but I felt the valet parking was a little unnecessary. But I'll be back.
What can I say? I'm a sucker for things named after me!
Very Veryyy Low Key...for a cafe that looks like a freaking ship.haha!
So my sister noticed this place while I was driving somewhere in Ktown a while back, and she said that we must visit this place. So my friends and I came at around 11 pm with no expectations of a big ass ship!
One thing I didn't really like was the unnecessary valet parking? But nonetheless, the service from valet to the waiters is a solid A, the only downside is that the place is so huge that they kind of take a while to get to your calls...
Speaking of the place, I loved it...the ambiance was spacey, eclectic, dark and cozy. There were so many rooms (or areas rather) to choose from and finally my friends and I got the jist of the cafe's theme: It was an homage of Titanic!! 1. The cafe is a "ship" 2. There were antique furniture including framed pictures from the actual motion picture Titanic and to top it off the freaking name of the cafe..CAFE JACK! (Me and my friends at this point were like OOOOOOOOOoooooOOOOhhhh.....) haha.
Anyways...they had a variety of things on their menu from (fusion sushi to fusion teas) I think that it would be nice to try a tea here next time...since they had so many selections..
Moving on, we ordered the fruit patbingsoo (which was a whopping $11.00) : -O and a gogumah cake (sweet potato) and a iced coffee...
Let me just tell you...the cake...was...the..best..I had from all of the other Ktown's cafes.. Wow it was so LEGITTT! It had the TRUE gogumah filling (creamy chunks of sweet potato) and the texture was so light, fluffy and spongy! It looked really cute too (there are whip cream bunnies on the cake) and the cake died too quickly by the hands of my friends lol..
The Patbingsoo was pretty good though...they missed the mochis but other than that...it was a pretty heaping amount that all 3 of us had to share..They had the icecream to complete it and allot of fruits and condensed milk..B+ (price was a turn off)
The iced coffee was whatever..definitely not remarkable..blehh? B-
Will come here again..for tea and for THE CAKEEEEEEE :D (and maybe the patbingsoo~)
This is my first yelp review, was looking over other cafes in LA I could go to and thought I might as well review a few of the ones I have been to. As most of the other reviews say, the theme and decorations are pretty cool. I actually went here twice a few months ago, both on Friday nights. Although it wasn't super crowded, one thing you should know is the designated parking lot is pretty tiny. Also one of the nights the service was not all that great as we had to ring the bell twice almost everytime just to get a waiter to notice us (and to be fair the other night the service was great). The coffee itself is actually pretty good, I actually probably prefer their coffee to the nearby Cafe Mak.
The biggest reason my friends and I don't return to Cafe Jack is that if you're a person who likes to smoke cigarettes and drink your coffee, but don't particularly like smoking indoors, this place isn't really right for you. The smoking section isn't necessarily indoors, it isn't outdoors either because it's a very covered section (for which I would assume is in case of rain) and there's very little ventilation. Just get's a little stuffy with smoke I guess would be the main point :P
We happened upon this place walking back from the Wiltern and in search of some coffee, cocktails, or both. The outside appears as a giant boat which drew us in for curiosity's sake. They appeared closed but were not.
As other people have said, it is strangely Titanic The Movie themed with vintage comfy oversized chairs and TONS of Leo "Jack" DeCaprioTitanic Movie Posters, autographs, and screen shots. At first seeing Leo everywhere made me kind of weirded out but then after I realized there was so much of it, I thought it was funny. The outside patio was really cool looking but it's somewhat covered and people were smoking so it was a bit hotboxed for my taste.
We ordered green tea ice cream and a mocha. The green tea came atop a bowl of cookie crisp cereal, covered in fruit and chocolate syrup. Not usually how I like green tea but it totally worked. The Mocha was great.
They did not have a bar although it appears that another outside area located in front would be the perfect spot for it since it does in fact have a bar set up. We wandered around to find a pool table and way more tables but all the pool equipment was kind of run down and/or broken so I wouldn't go there planning to play. They played DDR, Queen, Michael Jackson, Radiohead, and other stuff that was quite fitting for my mood. I realllllly like the ambience and the call buttons on the table that ensure you receive quick service. Will definitely be back!
This place gets 3 stars for existing and 1 star for everything else.
Reasoning behind those first three stars:
1. It's a boat, on Western, that I'm sure you have never noticed.
2. It's called Cafe Jack, is modeled after the Titantic, and has screen shots from the film all over the walls - this is clearly a copyright violation of some sort. Yet, I suspect this place is allowed to exist royalty-free under some legal loophole by which the innocuous extension of the mythology of a copywritten work is payment enough for use of any names/likenesses.
3. It's open later than most everything in this town, so you are destined to someday run into it. You know, like an iceberg in the night.
The 1 star is begrudgingly granted for everything else this place offers:
1. Drinks so overpriced that you soon realize you are being duped into paying admission for your ride on the boat. I ordered tea. It was forgettable.
2. Little bells you ring for service. When you ring, a server comes jogging in to check on you. I don't know about you, but that power dynamic is unsettling to me.
3. Frustration over potential unmet. Someone please do something in this space.
Were they to add an old-timey car out front, with a pre-steamed window, for photo-ops and awkward PDAs, I think even a $10 tea would be justified.
This place is okay. For all the peeps screaming overpriced or not that great, remember you are paying for the ambience and atmosphere. It would be like going into a strip club and complaining that the food isn't good.
Okay, so I doubt any guy would roll to this place alone, so I'm writing this review as a guy's guide to how to use this place to your advantage.
Here's how to win major points with your girl. *
Step 1:
Find out if she likes the movie titanic. If she does then skip to next step. You don't have to waste 3.99 on a used dvd from the video rental joint.
Step 2:
Else go to the old video store and find an old copy of titanic. Pay 3.99 for movie. Wrap and give to her. Let her watch it. After she goes ooh and ah at the great love story that is inside. Tell her how great she is and say how you wish more people would have passion in their lives.
Step 3:
Then on a whim as you just happen to be driving through Koreatown, spot this cafe and take her inside. She will love it since her favorite movie is now Titanic. and the inside is decorated all cutesy with pillows and titanic decorations.
Order 2 coffees and 1 dessert with 2 spoons. Why 1 dessert? You look romantic instead of being cheap. She isn't gonna gain any extra weight since its only half of one. Win win for everyone.
Step 4:
You'll be lucky if you can make it home before she throws herself at you, bc she's gonna wanna reenact the boinking scene that happened inside the car. Remember the fogged up window and the hand sliding down?
*Knowledge is power, don't abuse it. This is a joke. But if it works, more power to ya!
I love their shaved ice! Green tea, red bean, or fruit they are all great. The only difference really is the flavor of the scoop of ice cream. The topping's pretty much the same.
I have never gotten their drinks since they are way overpriced. Their shaved ice's around $10 - 13 and I usually share it with my friends. If it wasn't for the shaved ice I wouldn't come here.
This place is open til 4AM...The later the better...
I arrived with a small party and grabbed the guitar...They didn't mind...
Let me tell you that the fresh fruit with shaved ice and ice cream is just the thing to cleanse your palate after Won Kok... The standard tea and coffee in an Asian cafe populated this menu...
Sure, it's a Titanic themed cafe...I really didn't care because it was open at 3 AM and they were serving me food...
The manager showed us a little appreciation by giving us 4 free slices of cheesecake...Not the best cheesecake in the world, but the gesture was really nice...
Another outdoorsy place to hangout and chill...I'd definitely head back here when I'm in the area late at night...
Cafe Jack is just fun. The theming is zany and titanic oriented. They have call buttons on the table that bring the server running. Coffee is $5 but it's bottomless so that's not too bad.
The wi-fi is slow, but this is still a fun place in ktown to go and get some work done.
I've always wondered about this boat sitting on Western. Hilarious concept and adorable decorations (Christmas in April!). The weekend buffet is not very good, but for curiosity's sake you should come here, sing some Celine, and taste some $7 coffee. Mmm, mmm.
This place is just all around so cute. So Asian with a touch of Korean fobby cuteness. The entire place has cutesy pillows, twinkly lights, stuffed animals - everything you'd imagine a cute Asian place to have.
I really like their fruit pat bing soo, and yes, it's $10, but it's humongous, and nearly impossible to finish between two people. They put so much good stuff on there though, so I highly recommend it!
Sushi is aiiiiite here, nothing special. I still have yet to try the "ROBSTER ROLL" (yes, must love fobby Engrish) and the "DAINAMITE FOLL", which both sound really yummy.
Juices here are good too, even though it's pricey.
Slow service, even with the bell/ringer thing. Overall though, really cute place to go with friends or on an after meal hang-out date.
They have their own parking lot!!! (HUGE HUGE PLUS in KTown)
I absolutely love this place, especially with the fact that it is open late! I've been here twice before, but this last Sunday I went with a couple friends after having been at the Grove for dinner; I love seeing new people's reactions to this quirky little restaurant. Its a ship built in a parking lot between two buildings. Dean and Jason were what I would say... flabbergasted? They really enjoyed it, I still do! I guess Titanic really affected the owner more than others in such a way to create it as the theme, but its fun, its different, how can you not appreciate it?
Its a nice relaxed place to enjoy good company with friends over hot tea! Service has never been a problem for me here, the workers are efficient and fast. All I ordered this time was a white chocolate mocha which isn't out of the ordinary for me, but I was in that kind of mood. So very creamy! I also munched on a piece of my friend Dean's cheesecake which was alright. From other past times I've been here, I love their teas I've gotten and the frozen yogurt though highly sour, very filling and good. Prices can be a little expensive but I think its worth it.
I must note, I personally like the fact they play Korean music here too. So the only con I can think of is that the parking available is valet and extremely small. But other than the small fee of $1.50 for the valet, its really not that bad.
If you feel the need to chug some Haterade and spew grosspeech about Cafe Jack than you're probably not the kind of person that I'd want to babysit my kids. I don't have kids (that you know of) but it's just the idea. You can't be trusted when you have no sense of humor fun or kitsch. Humor, fun, kitsch are the colors which bathe Cafe Jack. Afterall -- IT'S A FREAKIN' SHIP of a coffee house.
A former coworker regaled me with tales of Cafe Jack. I knew that when I found the right fellow conquistadora we would go live it up. That we did, as expected. Though what was unexpected: I didn't get kicked out. I imagined being powerless over performing an impromptu "King of the World" one man show in such a way that might endanger myself and others. That didn't happen. Weird.
And yes the tea was $7 but such a cost is really no concern to a man of means such as myself. (Sugarmomma paid for it.)

Cute coffee and tea shop that is tucked in the back of the street on the east side of Western, north of 6th street. Open about a year, the coffee shop is built like a ship, see pics. Theme is from the movie Titanic, there are framed pictures from various scenes on the the walls. In door and outside space to sit and lounge, with colorful mini-lights all over, more than the usual. Sort of kitsch french cottage decor, though that might not have been what they were going for, with heart shape pillows and the like. They still had Christmas decorations up as well.
Limited menu, coffee is $5. I had rose tea, $6 see pic, cute but not really my thing. It tasted like strawberry water. They have fusion asian food here, and shaved ice dessert as well. The staff is pretty young, probably under 24, that is not my preference. It was pretty quiet when I was there, just about 3 or 4 groups. It was cold at night and they didn't have the heat lamps running, might be a nice brunch place, I didn't try the food. Service button on table, open till 2am, grade A, credit cards accepted, limited parking lot right in the front. Three and a half stars, for the mini lights, rounded down.
Plus, disregard the domain name, http://cafejack.net. Though this is painted on the side of the ship / building, it is an advertising link site. Either they don't own the domain or haven't developed the website yet.
This is a fun place to have a coffee, eat some frozen yogurt and wait for your buzz from Barcade to wear off enough for you to drive home safely (ok, I had my wife drive me).
The frozen yogurt I ordered came exactly how I like it, with bananas and Fruity Pebbles. My wife loved her shaved ice and coffee. I'm not Korean, so I apologize for not knowing the real names of these items.
Yes, it looks like a ship from the outside, and it sorta feels like a ship at dock inside.
Actually, now that I think about it more, this place is really cool. It's unique, which is become hard to find these days. My only complaint is that is a bit pricey, everything costs $6.95.
First of all, this place reminds me of Titanic, very cute and interesting.
When you enter the room seems very dim and red, so it's a relaxing environment. My first impression was to sit out doors, it looked so cool, except I didn't realize you weren't really outdoors, they just made it look outdoors. Smoke was very bad in the outdoor area, I guess if you're a smoker you'll love it, but for me I don't smoke and I was dying! so we requested to sit indoors.
Food- I ordered some very hot ramen noodles, very spicy but I guess thats normal for a Korean place. Very good, but very spicy!
Then we ordered their Shaved Ice, its was good just like any typical shaved ice place except this one had fruity crips in it which gave it a different flavor, but good. I think it was about $11 for the shaved ice,
Valet I believe was .50cents
Noodles i Believe was $10.
Kinda pricy but nice to hang out and chat with your friends.
I have no idea who thought up this bizarre cafe in K-town but hey, Koreans are just like that. Once you step inside, it feels like an ordinary cafe, which means slightly dim lighting, plush seats, and quick service. If you want service, just use that magical button at each table that summons the server.
We ordered a strawberry shake, hot chocolate, and fruit-bingsoo (quile bing-soo in Korean). The portions were quite large and the bingsoo was enough for three/four people. It's hard to find a good bingsoo in K-town these days since fro-yo has been the dessert standard since the Pinkberry phenomenon. But I always love a good bingsoo. I miss the days when I could get a Monster Bingsoo at IceKiss, but now that I know that Cafe Jack has some good ones, I might just come here.
Prices are high, but you get your money's worth with the good location and comfortable ambiance. We even had our own private room with a couch and huge table. For casual meetings (we were having one), it's great.
Real cute atmosphere, with decorations related to Titanic and a projection of the movie playing in the background. The exterior patio area is nicely decorated with much of the building created like a ship. There are also little cushy sections you can sit in for more conversations over coffee. There is a bit of an issue with lack of parking, however. This is a great place for a coffee before or after dinner.
i was very disappointed.
the desserts were nasty.
over steeped my tea too.
and the inside decor is very "titanic" themed.
meaning pictures of leo dicaprio.
and also it feels like you're out in a courtyard.
Coffee on a ship? In a parking lot in K-town?
This is an interesting little place. The coffee shop or shall I say cafe is a ship parked in a parking lot on Western. The exterior and interior decor are really pretty. The walls are filled with pictures from the scenes of the movie "Titanic" with Leo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet. It's all outdoor seating with heat lamps all around so it's warm from the heat lamps and crisp from the fresh air. The drink menu is pretty extensive with coffees, teas, smoothies, shakes, shaved ice, etc. The cafe also serves fusion food. Unfortunately, I have not tried the food so no comments on that, but I did try their green tea latte ice blended which was pretty good. Service was not bad either. I'd go back cuz it's really purdy...
I am giving this joint 2 stars because it is a feast for the eyes.
A girlfriend and I passed this place and then circled the block.
We simply Had to go in. It looks like the front of a big ship, It says
"Theme Restaurant" on the front and signs boasted healthy food, smoothies, coffee, etc. (The lot is small so there is a valet, just tip him).
It is a bit confusing when you walk in because it is pretty fancy-shmancy inside. It is decorate in a "Titanic" theme. Like a very elegant cruise ship. I thought it would be a bit more like a Carnival Cruise ship or a Long John Silver's or something. There is also a Ton of seating outside surrounding the Ship. The outside seating is very fancy also, some of the booths have lacy heart pillows on them. It really is lovely and fun. We were excited and hoped we had found a new spot to spend some time in.
Well...
I am sure a lot of people will adore the place but, it wasn't for us.
The drink menu was the most elaborate I have ever seen, hands down. Hardcover,Leather-bound and embossed, multiple pages in plastic, the pages were even framed with a silver edging. Why is this noteworthy? I just have never seen such an elegant menu for coffee, tea, smoothies and frozen yogurt. The prices for these drinks were just out of line and my guess is the menu presentation is their way of justifying highway robbery. A cup of tea was around $5.50 a cup. Gourmet tea was, I believe, around $7. Not for a Pot, for a Cup! Basically, every drink is around $7. and up.
The food menu seemed like an afterthought and was just a full color paper menu. Korean food, which is not my favorite. There were photos of sandwiches on the menu but, when I asked the waiter, he told me they, in fact, did not sell sandwiches. Granted, there were no prices or descriptions of said sandwiches on the menu, but Why Were They There????
We decided to get 2 smoothies to go because I was craving a sandwich or salad, it was so hot out. So, the smoothies were sherbet and ice whipped in a blender. $$$$$$ 14.00 for 2 crappy smoothies. And, they did not have proper to go cups so they were served in those coffee cups with the coffee lid.
The place is so cool looking, it's just a shame that their prices are so overblown. I really wanted to like this place but when I am pretty much being robbed for a sub-par smoothie, it really steams me!!!!
Oh, a cool thing is, on the patio, they have little doorbells to push at the table to summon the waiter.
Super overpriced, but we always went here because of how spacious this place is. From outside it looks pretty small, but theres actually alot of places to sit. Appreciate that they are fixing and working on the place, changing it around. It can hold pretty large groups, and the staff is very prompt.
I recommend the strawberry juice, the mango and peach smoothie (when the make it right), the food is pretty decent too.
Their teas arent bad, the tropical ones especially.
And if they mess up on your drink, they dont make a big deal about making you a new one.
We try to find parking around the area, and if its a weeknight or really late you can street park and not have to pay for valet.
It seems like there are less and less people there now, maybe because of all the other new coffee shops popping up...
i literally walked in... sat down.. got up.. and left...
this place reminds me of titanic... i dont like it that much.. actually at all... i guess tahts why i left.. hahah the valet guy didnt even park my car yet.. ahhahah
Overpriced tea and other Korean triffles, absent and awkward service, poorly heated ... and oh yeah, did I mention it's in a giant boat?! Not a place to make a regular hangout, but a definite place to take friends for a darkly lit photo-op and a Christmas light'd booth under a framed picture of Billy Zane as Caledon Hockley the Third.
Ambiance, ambiance ambiance
This place is too cute for words
Definitely worth checking out AT LEAST once
Yes it is a theme cafe/restaurant
The theme being Titanic (the movie)
Jack from Titanic - Cafe Jack - get it?
It is adorned with pictures from the movie and a lot of white christmas lights - giving the whole place a warm glow.
and there is plenty of different options for seating
Indoor, outdoor patio (this is where I always sit when I go), and an upstairs.
This place is perfect to come to with your girlfriends or your honey.
Pros
1. Ambiance & Decor
2.Dduk Bbokki (Spicy Rice cake dish)- does have a surprise underneath - if you did you will find a boo chin gae (pancake)
3. White Christmas Lights all year round
4. Parking lot (no valet fee but you have to tip them)
Cons
1. Parking lot is too small
2. It is pricey for snacks.
3. Coffee to go is still the same price ~$5 for small cup
Come here for quality time with your friends while enjoying drinks and snacks - not a meal.
P.S. Posted Photos
EDIT:
They sell frozen yogurt now, following the big pinkberry hype going around in ktown/la but BEST OF ALL... it taste EXACTLY like pinkberry! i am soo happy. no more pinkberry. hello cafe jack! plus, better ambience/atmosphere.
First thing that comes to my head is .."Titanic!"
this place is located in a parkinglot where they made it into a titanic looking ship. Mostly outdoor patios/tables /booths for you to have coffee, korean appetizers, and desserts. There's also a deck where you can act out the part where leo and kate spread their arms and overlook the view.. in this case, it will be the smuggy LA apartments or thecarls' jr right across.
their ddukboki is really good. its not your regular ddukboki. this place has a boochingae (korean pancake) layered on the bottom which makes it extra tasty~~
This is a new chill spot for me and my friends because the interior is pretty cool and its pretty. again one of those overpriced cafes but the fresh squeezed juice, teas, fusion food, and the ambience makes you want to come back again and explore more parts of the "ship"~
This is just a great place to chill with one or two friends. I love that you're in a boat - literally. The whole restaurant is in the theme of Titanic. There are Titanic pictures from the movies as well as the movie plays along the wall outside. Very original. It's colored with Christmas lights which give it a dream like quality. The seats are very comfortable to sit for a long time. It's quiet so you can study or hang out with your friends. It's mostly 20's, 30's koreans that hang out.
The food is excellent, but very limited. I've had the dragon roll which is my fave. I ususally have a cafe mocha or cappuccino which are pretty good and well portions. It's a bit pricey, $5.50, but you can stay there for as long as you want.
The service is comprised of early 20's and leaves a lot to be desired. Although it is a chill coffee place so it's not as if you need superb service..
really a 3.7. decor/ambiance - 4.0. they really did a cute job on it. coffee - 3.5 at best, they need to make it a little stronger. shaved ice - 3.0. yogurt - 3.0. pool table - nice touch. something different. food? never had. service - 4.0 not bad. would i wait? depends, did i valet or find street parking? you get my drift.
The 13-year-old girl inside me almost died at the sight of this place.
It's the freaking Titanic, inside and out. You can even sit on the bow (?...) and recreate the "I'm flying Jack!" scene if you really want to. Very romantic (to a 13-year-old).
Thank god I was with someone who knew about the whole "ring the buzzer, get service" deal. I'm not really a frequent visitor to KoreaTown, so I may have been sitting for a while.
That, however, wouldn't have been so terrible. Plenty to look at.....the owner seems to be simultaneously obsessed with Valentine's Day and Christmas. Remember the Christmas Vacation movie? When Chevy Chase covers his house in so many lights that the fuse blows?
Random Santa Clause faces hang on the wall between Titanic movie stills, and they even have a Christmas tree. Signs outside point the way to the North Pole, and you have to love the lacy, pastel colored, fur-covered, heart-shaped pillows that fill the booths.
Basically this is the coolest place ever. My coffee was good. My company was better.
This place is hilarious. I bring people here for that reason alone! They have badly stretched photos on the menu from titanic and home-printer quality photos framed all over the walls and fake house plants outside.
I think the elaborate ship idea is good fun. The frozen yogurt is good and the bulgogi is ok too. It's just expensive (like all the little yogurt cafes in k town). It certainly isn't my favorite yogurt place, but I end up going here so often because I feel like I have to show this thing to people (and kids really dig it even though you won't see any children there).
very cheesy
okay drinks
stayed here for only two hours haha and that is staying short in a cafe
had to go to another cafe because i really disliked the ugliness of the decor of the ship
weird random christmas lights everywhere
bad korean pop music blasting
if you are into korean music, maybe here
if you are crazy with titanic and like cheesiness of staying in boat
this is the place for you!
3 stars
You know how you see a huge accident on the freeway where the head of a passenger is rolling on the road like an overinflated soccer ball and you don't want to slow down and look but you can't tear your eyes away from the wreck and rolling head at the same time?
Well, that's kinda what happened when I passed by Jack's Cafe. I just HAD to go in and see what this place was about. Sitting smack in the middle of the Koreatown urban jungle on Western Avenue, a conspicuous boat is docked on concrete around other shopping centers and strip malls. It is a themed coffee/tea house that got its inspiration from Titanic.
Valet is $1.50 and it's more convenient to valet than to try and find street parking. The host will ask you if you want smoking or non-smoking. The smoking section is outside and the non-smoking is inside. My buddy and I don't believe in slowly killing ourselves so we were lead to the indoor section. Like other Yelpers have mentioned, there's red lighting and you're greeted by a "Bom chika bom bom" soundtrack as you enter the room... Well, maybe not that particular soundtrack but during the night I went, there was a man outdoors (in the smoking area) that was fully pimped up in a suit and hat and wrapped in a burberry blanket. He was singing various Korean and American songs. Unfortunately, he must have thought he could temporarily detach his nuts from his sac because he attempted to cover George Michael and Norah Jones songs. His nuts really protested to those songs and I think they probably squeezed his vocal chords in retaliation.
On to the drinks - My buddy ordered hot chocolate (it was a cold night) and I ordered a Sweet Berry Fruit Tea (I think I was washed over by a feminine Titanic fever because I immediately had an urge to ask the staff to sketch me naked like Kate Winslet while sipping this quaint tea). Both drinks were okay in my opinion. Maybe I'm used to the Chinese style syrups that add more flavor and consistency ...
In summary, this is definitely a novel place you might want to stop by just to say you've been to Koreatown's version of Queen Mary but if you're looking for good non-alcoholic drinks, there are better places out there.
haha, can't help but giggle while you're in this "boat." It's pretty comedic. i guess it's just your average K-town cafe, except for the huge boat part... there are "titanic" pictures everywhere along the walls. hilarious.
i reccommend getting the tea because you get your own personal pot with unlimited refills of hot water. they offer a pretty nice selection.
all in all, a place worth visiting just for the unique setting. you'll have lots to talk about when you go there with your friends :)
