I have never been to your location in Concord as I live in NYC, but I have had some of your dessert.
The VEGAN carrot cake is just awesome! I can't wait to try the lemon poppy seed cake now. I see why Whole Foods in Manhattan carry your products.
You are just that good... -
Review from Kedar D.
What an unusual and tasty cafe! What I love about Cafe Indigo is that they do all of their food from scratch---their bread is made on site, as is their seitan, and obviously the famous carrot cake. You rarely see restaurants go to such lengths; most are happy to just use the pre-made stuff their distributor sells to them. Cafe Indigo takes no shortcuts and the payoff is big.
I had the pepper steak sandwich on their home-made whole wheat bread ($9) as my lunch. The bread and the seitan were both high-grade and well-done. I think the portion size was small, though, and I could have done without the blue tortilla chips and the tasty (but irrelevant) side of cole slaw that came with it.
For dessert I had a slice of the carrot cake ($3.75) and a mini chocolate ganache cupcake ($0.75). The former was excellent and lived up to the hype: moist, not too sweet, and not too carrot-y. The chocolate ganache cupcake, however, was dense and dry and not great.
The service is friendly. You place your order up front and then go sit down. It took me a moment to realize that.
Lastly, the cafe is in a weird location. It appears to be in a suburban storage complex with a bunch of non-food businesses, which probably keeps the rent down, but also might limit the customer base (no one would ever guess that there's a cafe amidst a bunch of warehouses and karate studios).
All in all, I applaud Cafe Indigo for going the extra mile and serving tasty food that takes no shortcuts. It's rare in this world. -

We moved to Concord from Western NY, and after a long day of unpacking boxes and moving furniture, we needed food. Thanks for feeding us, Cafe Indigo! It was around 3 on a Friday afternoon and there was one other couple in there. Our food came quickly. We both had salads with eggless salad, which was excellent. Great veggies and the eggless was perfect (I love turmeric). I also had a bowl of corn chowder with cornbread (woah cornbread I've missed you!), and my boyfriend had a pepper steak. Their seitan is amazing. I'm interested in the cheesesteak, as we lived off of the vegan ones at Govindas when we stayed in Philly for a week. Oh and we shared some carrot cake, which is no lie some of the best ever.
I really like this place, it's friendly and the food is excellent and makes my food-allergied belly happy. One more thing to like about Concord! -

Located in a dumpy warehouse outside of town; lacking in customer service. On our way back into town, we discovered the Concord Cooperative Market at 24 South Main Street. There are more organic, vegetarian, and vegan options at Concord Cooperative Market anyway, come to find out. Also, Concord Cooperative Market has chefs and bakers, and their baked goods are excellent. (There's also, come to find out, a French bakery, Bread & Chocolate, right across the street. We quickly packed our trip cooler with some of their heavenly goodies) The customer service at Concord Cooperative Market is excellent too. There's a temporary look of dishevelment about the Concord Cooperative Market right now though. We understand that they are undergoing some repairs. The look is a bit off putting.

Sometimes when I am stressed, like tonight, I stop at Whole Foods on my way home and get a slice of your carrot cake. I don't know exactly how but my blood pressure drops, my heart warms, and I smile. One bit of cake and all is right in the world. Thank you for that because today I needed that moment.

I've only been there once (please move closer to Boston!) but the food was amazing. I had their seitan reuben-ish sandwich, my mom had their panini special. Both great.
As people have said, the location is pretty terrible, as in it's both hard to find, and the ambiance is well...bland. They make the best of it, and make up for it with their great food and desserts. Grab some cole slaw and some carrot cake (or lemon poppyseed cake) on the way out. -

Vegan comfort food - yum!
My daughter and I decided it would be fun to go to a restaurant where we could order ANYTHING from the menu and not be limited to a salad or a plate of french fries. We searched the entire New England region for vegan comfort food and re-routed our return to make a stop at Cafe Indigo. Worth it!
We gorged ourselves on the delicious and fattening sandwiches! Oh the decadence of of creamy coleslaw and special sauce on my "Rachel". My daughter had a faux fish sandwich with rich tartar sauce.
Since we had eight hours of driving ahead of us we decided to order food to go. I ordered a teriyaki seitan wrap and she ordered a faux crab cake. Both of these were equally delicious and would make any carnivore drool.
We also grabbed some baked goods (brownie, whoopie pies and strawberry rhubarb pie). These were good but had that vegan taste to that I still have not gotten used to. As a brand new vegan at forty-six I still remember the flavor of butter.
We also purchased a frozen mac and cheese and plan to have it in the next few days.
I spent $70.00 for all of the above goodness. Considering the tastiness and that everything is organic this was a bargain that should not be overlooked.
The service was a little weird. It is a very small room but you are requested to order at the counter then a girl delivers water and your order. I had to pay for lunch before sitting down to eat because "it gets really busy sometimes". It was was 2:00 PM and there was one other couple in the room. I have three credit card slips because she forgot to add my take-out order to our bakery order. It was just odd. Not bad or a deal breaker, just odd. -

Good Food -- Heck great food
Horrendous location, both exterior and interior. They make the best of this site, but it's neither intimate nor romantic. Very utilitarian.
Worth going to, though. -

We went here for breakfast. I'm gluten free so not a big fan of baked goods which seems to be their main offering. We got the breakfast burrito in a gluten free wrap and salad. It was good. I would go here again, but now I won't be surprised by the fact it is mostly a bakery.

I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Cafe Indigo.
I've had great experiences with Cafe Indigo's desserts (carrot cake!) and brunch, but not so much with lunch options. Portions have been small and I find the food a little... off. I tried the veggie cakes when I first visited, and they actually gave me food poisoning.
Perhaps I visited at a bad time and ordered a bad option, but really. I would recommend going to brunch and trying some carrot cake, but that's about it. -

When I lived in England my almost daily ritual was a homemade lemonpoppyseed muffin and a hot cider from this little stand near my college. When I first went vegan I found that I occassionally missed having a good lemon poppyseed substitute (I've since found Hannah Kaminsky's recipes and the glory of Cafe Indigo).
When I first tried the lemon poppy seed cake at My Thai it was totally on a whim. And now I"m a full blown addict. I'll even skimp on "dinner" or order something for pretense just to be able to dig into a large piece of it. It's pretty much HEAVEN on earth. I'll dare I say it - I'll even be crass and go on to say it's mind blowingly Sting's 17 hour tantric sex marathons good. For serious. Food pr0n gets no better than this.
One fine day I will actually get my vegan bum up to the Cafe Indigo storefront. Until then however I am more than content to purchase their wares at select Whole Foods and My Thai. If you haven't yet tried their stuff get thee to My Thai ASAP!!Listed in: Fat Little Vegan

I'm making a stand. I will change this rating to 5 stars once Cafe Indigo changes their location!
Tucked away in a dreary outdated business park, I was certain our GPS must be mistaken or the location had moved. Stepping inside, I felt no better. The decor is a carpeted, fluorescent-lit, office room with a scary combination of dinner tables.
However (and this is a big however), this might now be one of my favorite places to grab a bite. The prices are right, the quality is right, the portions are right, and the flavor is sooo right. We ordered the grilled "cheese" and the BLT, both of which were literally dripping with flavor.
And, yes, they DO have the best carrot cake. It's official. -

So this place is a little out of the way but it is totally worth the drive. I have never been to a vegan restaurant before but I was not let down. I was going to lunch with my grandmother and spent most of lunch explaining to her what "vegan" meant. Questions such as "what do you mean they don't eat meat?" (very my big fat greek wedding style). By the end of the conversation, she still really didn't understand but I don't think she really cared because the food was amazing.
The highlight of the meal was their vegan carrot cake. I don't even have words to describe how delicious this cake was. Amazing doesn't even come close. The cake was moist and the homemade frosting was so good. I don't know how they make it, but I want to know.
They make everything from scratch which make everything taste so fresh. They have a small, but nice seating area or you can even get take out. I would even go there just for the carrot cake.

I heard about Cafe Indigo from a vegan coworker. They sell thier products to the local Whole Foods.
I had the carrot cake. The cake part was moist and very flavorful and the icing was incredible.
You can order directly from thier site and get breads and pies,cakes...all vegan.Listed in: Let Them Eat Cupcakes, Vegetarian/Vegan

I've been to this place twice for takeout. Not bad. Had a seitan wrap once and a tofu wrap on the other visit. They both came with some tortilla chips and some vegan coleslaw that was so so. I got the carrot cake on my second visit after reading other reviews on here raving about it and I think maybe the hype had my expectations at an extremely high level and therefor were not met adequately. I thought the frosting was a little excessive, but the cake part was flavorful and moist.
It is in an odd location, but that makes it kind of fun. I still want to hit this place up a few more times to try some of the other sandwiches and give the carrot cake a second go. I hope to dine in and try their sunday brunch too. The "scary combination" of dinner tables one reviewer pointed actually give the odd location more of a homey feel inside the office style industrial building.
It's definitely worth a stop if you're headed up to the mountains or lakes for the weekend or on your way back and you're craving a vegan friendly snack on the go.Listed in: Vegan eats

I can only give four stars having never actually been to Cafe Indigo. They supply many a cake to various restaurants. My Thai on Harvard Ave in Brookline is just one of those places.
Their carrot cake is fabulous. My roommate loves their chocolate cake and I guess their lemon poppyseed is pretty good too. I had a cupcake smuggled over state lines to me and I must say that it was quite yummy (although I don't know how it compares to my vegan cupcakes!).
The first place I am going to if I am ever in Concord, NH is definitely Cafe Indigo. -

At yesterday's Boston Vegetarian Society annual fair, I was fortunate to sample Cafe Indigo's carrot cake. You've got to be kidding me! This is awesome. (no wonder it was recognized by Veg News as the best 'Carrot Cake Ever'!). Totally vegan, and better than any non-vegan version I can ever remember having.
Ironically, we had a commitment in New Hampshire that same night so we found a hotel and decided to check out Indigo's Sunday morning vegan brunch. We were the first ones in the place when it opened at 10am. Everyone, including owner Patti, was bright and cheerful. Extreme positive energy. The food was incredible. The 'starter' consisted of all-you-can-eat trips to the salad and dessert buffet. Eight different salads to choose from, including vegan cole slaw, bean salad, hummus, and more. The dessert bar featured cheese cake (which my significant other said was the best she's ever had), CARROT CAKE!, 'death by chocolate' cake, and more.
The brunch menu had a wonderful selection of items. I had the Sampler (highly recommended) which included vegan scrambled tofu (I can't believe its not eggs!); cinammon French Toast, corn meal pancake, not-sausage patty, and home fries. Every element was flavorful and delicious. Coffee is all you can drink and WHAT A PLEASURE to enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee out at a restaurant with Soy Coffee Creamer (not just soy milk) available! Price for the Sunday brunch -- including unlimited appetizers, desserts and coffee plus main dish, just $15 per person.
They sell fresh baked goods to take away and we came home we a pack of carrot cake cupcakes and a loaf of apple strudel cake. Both superb.
Concord is a haul from where we live in Massachusetts, but we will find plenty more opportunities to eat there. For any vegetarians living in New Hampshire, Cafe Indigo is an amazing jewel. The food is so darned delicious that non-vegetarians will love it too. -

I love Cafe Indigo -- the vegan cheesecake is worth it, not to mention the other (already highly reviewed) baked goods.
They make excellent seitan, and the veggie cakes (vegan version of crabcakes) are to die for. It is definitely worth the trip to their odd location for some of the only vegan food in Concord. -

I'm so excited to have found a vegan restaurant that also makes vegan baked goods!
I have only been there once so far, but if I lived closer I would go all the time. I got the Tofishy sandwich, and loved it. My mom got a lentil burger that was really good also, and the cookie bars were awesome. We also got cupcakes and carrot cake, which we shared with my non-veg family who couldn't even tell the difference.
I will definitely go back, and highly recommend this restaurant.
update: I've gone back a couple times now, once with my non-vegan dad and sister (who are usually very biased against vegetarian food in general)- well, they both loved everything they tried here and my dad said he would come back! -

Though I have been to My Thai in Brookline I did not get any of the sweets and I had never heard of this place before today nor have I ever been but I sure did find their amazing baked goods tonight (nice run-on, right? I'm too tired to care). I went to A Market for the first time and ended up getting one of their (pretty damn good) seitan wraps as well as their apple bread (vegan + organic)- I was really impressed with both. I am thinking I might need to make a trip to Concord to check out the cafe.
