My friends raved about this place: apparently there is a killer all you can eat spaghetti special for lunch with home-made pasta. They all really wanted to go, so we did.
The place is huge. There we quite a few of us, but it didn't take too long to get some tables together and seat us, which was a plus. Unfortunately, that was about all that this place got right.
Well, the special was severally limited and expensive: you could only get spaghetti with 2-3 different kinds of sauces, all of which sucked. I ate all three and by the time I was done, I felt like I was going to explode.
The most damning fact? THEY OVERCOOKED THE SPAGHETTI?! Not once, but every single time it was mush...like I was eating tubes of wheat just sitting in cold water for a few days.
Below average Italian food in an attractive building indeed.

I'm sure Cafe Gondolier has a lot of great things on the menu but I can remember going to the Gondolier from the time I was 4 or 5 (yes, I'm a Boulder old-timer) and the thing that keeps me coming back is their AMAZING spaghetti with marinara sauce. I've never tasted a better spaghetti sauce! Some of the old family owned Italian restaurants in Louisville (Blue Parrot, Colacci's et al) have a great reputation for spaghetti, but they simply don't hold a candle to the Gondolier... not even close!
