Review from Patti T.

Hidden in the heart of South Hills suburbia, it sometimes makes me feel guilty having a meal this good at a place so close to home. Cafe Georgio's is our favorite date night spot and a wonderful choice for a small group special occasion (such as my ?0th AND ?0th birthdays).
On Saturdays reservations are pretty much a must. As usual, we made our plans last minute. Called to request a reservation that evening and were able to get a table for 8:00. Phew!
The restaurant is in an old house. Stepping inside the front door, the first two tables are in the foyer directly to the left and right of the front door with the bar immediately behind. There are 3 dining rooms in the house: two on the first floor and one upstairs. Large groups are usually seated upstairs and if rowdy, it can be annoyingly loud up there. There is seating and dinner service at the bar.
We were seated upstairs, right next to a rowdy-ish large group who, bless them, were eating dessert. From the bar: no Patron served here. I suffered with an 1800 anejo on the rocks, would have preferred a silver tequila though. Generous pours.
The menu has been tweaked, mostly shrunken, which I think is a good thing. Reliability becomes staleness after more than a couple years. From the "specials" menu I ordered butternut squash soup. It was extremely thick, perfectly smooth. For my taste it was seasoned a tad too close to the pumpkin pie side of things. I actually like the taste of the actual squash. Regretted not ordering their excellent tanglewood salad. Next time! For his appetizer, my husband ordered a scary and mysterious thing called "crab cheesecake". What a name! I have to admit it was delicious, a quiche/custard/mousse-like slice of warm crabby ooey-gooey. Accompanied by some field greens and a few roasted peaches drizzled with a (balsamic?) reduction under which nuggets of maytag cheese were hidden. A definite hit.
For the first time, I ordered one of their flatbreads as my entree. On the Specials menu, it had caramelized onion, pear and Maytag bleu cheese. Nice balance of flavors, maybe more cheese than it needed. Boxed leftovers heated beautifully in the toaster oven for a nice lunch the next day. H's Sea Bass entree was on the Specials menu. It seemed like a "clean out the fridge" kind of seafood plate; there were a few seafood elements to it. Also, he got the last Sea Bass serving of the night. From where I sat I could see why it was the last filet. I don't think they should have served it. The piece was poorly cut (too thin) and cooked enough that it curled at the ends. I did not ask for a bite.
No room for dessert this trip, but my favorite is their bread pudding--a ridiculously sweet, rich, soft, crunchy, warm plate of happiness. Not for lightweights (or light weights :)) -

Intimate dining experience in a converted house near South Hills Village. Imaginative chef with many medley special (like three types of fish with three different sauces) make every meal there different.
Prices tend to be be between $20 and $30 with some pastas less and a few entrees more. Nice place to get out with your spouse.
One of the owners is also a painter and her works, which are for sale, decorate the walls. -

A wonderful find. You'd never just happen across this place since it's tucked back on a side street, but it's definately worth going to. The service is wonderful. It used to be a little two story house and was converted into a nice little Italian place.
