Yummy!
Still allergy friendly, and take-out/pick up is pretty quick (15-20 min) even during peak dining hours. If you won't be eating at home, remember to ask for cutlery and napkins since they don't always automatically include that in your take out bag (I found out the hard way and ended up with no napkins or cutlery).
I came here twice last week to have the vegan French Dip sandwich ($12) and vegan deep fried avocado appetizer (5 pieces, 3 vegan dipping sauces). The rosemary lemonade ($3) is also a treat. I normally hate lemonade but the rosemary lemonade is not too sour or sweet, and the rosemary is not overwhelming at all.
I'm also pretty sensitive to dairy (cow and goat milk/whey/caesin) and react immediately when ingesting dairy and from cross-contamination and have enjoyed all my meals here without any issues.
The vegan menu (also including desserts) is pretty limited but what they do have is excellent. There is also a kid friendly menu (I didn't see vegan items on the kid's menu), Cafe Flora cookbooks and t-shirts for sale.Listed in: Seattle restaurants: Safe for…

I've gone to Cafe Flora for brunch about 6+ times, and I've been once for dinner. I find the food bland. I'm not the sort of person who adds a bunch of salt to my meal when it arrives, but I feel like I need to do that for every dish here...and it still doesn't make it taste any better! It seems like a vegetarian restaurant would be really on top of their herbs and spices, so what gives?
The mediocre food would be less offensive it if weren't so expensive.
However, the restaurant is quite lovely, especially the patio with the giant tree in the middle. -

Good food. OK prices. And a dream for those with dietary restrictions. Cafe Flora offers vegetarian, vegan, soy free, and gluten free menu items--and they will customize just about anything to suit your dietary restrictions (within reason, of course).
Prices are reasonable compared to other veg-focused eateries. And the food is genuinely GOOD. Huge fan of the falafel (vegan + GF) and their brunch scambles are awesome.
Downside? Menu options are kind of lacking during certain times. The yam fries always seem to be soggy---still tasty though! -

One of my favorite restaurants. My husband and I like to come here for a romantic dinner and sit out in the atrium, it is beautiful. The portabella wellington is delicious and I order it every time. Cafe Flora is heaven for a vegetarian!!

Review from Ray L.
Very very good. But their menu wasn't as creative as I was hoping. Perhaps I came during brunch-menu-only hours (Sunday around 1PM), but almost everything was an egg/breakfast dish. That's not to say that the items I did see didn't excite me.
1. The ever-changing bloody mary is delicious. And I don't even like bloody mary's all that much.
2. The breakfast quesadilla was a little fun and interesting. The egg came on the outside, then the tortilla, then the sweet potato/roots and cheese. Didn't leave a crumb behind, it was very delicious. Wasn't a fan of the "sour cream," however. I think it was made from yogurt or something, not sure.
I would definitely be into trying out other menu items here. Interested in lunch/dinner. -

I have to start out by saying that I realize my review will mean nothing- I'm one in a sea of Madison folks who swear by this place. There will still be a line on Sundays, and the management will not think twice about what I say here.
However, I have been to Cafe Flora many times over the years, and only once have I left there happy, and it was at lunch when I had a gluten free pizza which was delicious.
Otherwise, there's always something missing. Today was by far my least enjoyed Flora experience though.
As a place that makes an effort to have foods that cater to people with dietary needs, (or wants) it's never a good thing in my mind to run out of the only sweet gluten-free thing on the menu in the middle of brunch. I mean, how do you run out of waffle batter? It's not a pork shoulder, or something that you can't make more of. It just seemed lazy on the managements' part.
I was way disappointed as I went there specifically for a pancake/waffle type brunch and ended up with the suggestions of the southwest scramble (which as a Celiac vegetarian is annoying because I spend my whole life eating beans, corn tortillas and eggs), or the oatmeal- which was irresponsible on the servers' part, as their oatmeal is NOT marked as gluten-free on the menu, so I doubt that it really is.
In addition, I ordered a fruit bowl to appease my sweet-tooth, and it was 5 bucks. Which would have been fine, but it seriously had 3 slices of a cara-cara and three paper-thin quarter-round slices of pineapple. (a dollars worth of fruit, tops) That's not a bowl! That's a tea-plate, and we had the same amount of fruit as garnish. Had I known this, I would not have ordered it.
Our service was fine, not raving but sufficient. It took 50 (30 just til the fruit "bowl") minutes to get our food, which to me is another thing that reflects poorly on the management- we both work in the industry, and being busy isn't really an excuse for that length of time in my mind. It's always busy on weekends, make it happen.
All in all, it wasn't a good brunch out- I don't mind a slow, lengthy brunch, but it's got to be worth it, and for 50 bucks I would've rather had a coffee and a gf pastry somewhere. -

Today was our third time to Cafe Flora. We've been once for dinner, and this time we went for brunch on a Sunday. The first two times everything went okay, but today was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in terms of service.
Cafe flora is a veg friendly restaurant and bar. They've got some really cool mixed drinks, lots of organic and local options, and a cool ambiance. When we went for dinner they had us seated in 10 minutes or so and everything was great. Brunch the last time we went was a little slow, but still reasonable and we had a nice time.
Today (Sunday) we arrived around 11AM for brunch and saw a pretty big crowd waiting at the front door. When we put in our name they told us "15-20 minutes". That turned into 50 minutes before we were called for our meal. After a few minutes our order did get taken, and the wait staff was actually fairly attentive to us. But it took 90 minutes for us to get our food! NINETY. I'm sorry, but this is unacceptable by just about any standard. It's no wonder there was a huge line at the front door with the kitchen moving so slowly. Then, once the food arrived it wasn't even hot anymore. Really very disappointing - but by this point we didn't even want to say anything because who knows how long it would have taken them to warm the food up properly before serving.
Our server was friendly, but clearly this place is not being managed well. The food was good (despite being cold), and we like this place still. But what could have been our favorite restaurant in Seattle really lost its reputation with us today. -
Review from Marla E.
I have never been disappointed in the food here. The owners are dedicated to local, sustainable, and humane farming practices so you can have meal with dairy and eggs and your conscience can remain intact. Plus they changed the gluten-free pizza crust to a local company called Maninis Gluten Free and it's amazing!!! The pizzas change seasonally along with the rest of the menu, and i have never had one i didn't like.
Breakfast is equally good and they have some very imaginative cocktails. It's hard to recommend dishes when the menu changes. Seriously, pick a dish that sounds good at the time, and you won't regret it.
I also love that the menu is clearly labeled as to what is gluten-free, soy-free and vegan, so this food-allergic girl can eat in peace. One thing to note if you have a severe gluten issue is that they do use a common fryer for the beignets as for the french fries. So keep that in mind, but don't be disappointed if you can't order a fried food because there are so many other great choices.Listed in: Food sensitive-friendly eats…

A wonderful spot for lunch. It is vegetarian but so inventive you won't miss the meat.
We've mainly been there for lunch and you shouldn't miss the bean burger. Sounds pretty hiring but it taste wonderful. They do a great job with frisking the beans and it tastes great.
The other thing not to miss is their vegan cinnamon roll. Not too much cream cheese topping and not too sweet.
The few times we've been there service has been slow. Not sure why but they were super busy one weekday mOrning. -

My bestie and I were in Seattle to see Radiohead for the day and came here for a late lunch. I'm vegetarian and she's flexatarian, so we had been pointed here for a suitable meal. Great food, great service, great cocktail. It was the between-brunch-and-dinner-lull so we had very prompt service and a very short wait time on our sandwiches. Neither of us had any dietary restrictions other than vegetarianism, but the table behind us had a hodgepodge of allergies, and eavesdropping I could hear both our server and the kitchen handle them kindly and gracefully. Super delish and our server was totally lovely, would return if back in the city. It was so good that we both had a dessert even stuffed - they have this dirty trick of bringing the desserts available over to the table on a tray to show them off to you. Not a trick I completely mind being played on me.

What a delightful experience. I met some foodie friends here for brunch on a Sat and I was pleasantly surprised. And since I don't venture out to Seattle often, I ordered several items to try and see how the food was in general.
Started out w/ Beignet (3 - for $4) on a bed of creamy mocha sauce. Honestly, I could eat this every day if my darn cholesterol wasn't so high! Great thing about this dish was that it didn't taste heavy as it looks. It was airy, light, and the sauce was very delectable.
Then I ordered Florentine Scramble (something else comes before "Florentine") for $11.50 which was perfectly seasoned, fluffy and had a ton of flavor. The cheesy grits comes w/ this dish and it's absolutely delicious. A must try.
The Spanish Polenta ($13) was my favorite. I actually didn't want to cut into the food because it was plated so beautifully. Everything on this plate complimented each other so well. The Spinach, Polenta, Egg, diced green olives, and cheese....ugh - yummy!
I ordered a Soy Chai Latte but did not care for it at all. But the portion of their coffee/teas are quite generous.
Service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive and nice. Ambiance is charming. You will feel like you're dining in a garden surrounded by so much greenery. I truly enjoyed this dining experience. -

Was going through old food pics and decided to start posting reviews, even though I'd prefer not having only whole stars to vote on. I'd give Cafe Flora 4.25 stars. Having been here several times when I was living in Seattle, I love everything about this place. Great seating in the courtyard for a late dinner or early brunch. The food has been superb each time and almost every dish is reasonably priced. I always recommend Cafe Flora to friends visiting Seattle, because I it accommodates all kinds of occasions.

Review from Cat A.
I'm not a veggie. I used to be for about five years until I fell for a chicken nugget. But my best friends are veggies, and I don't mind eating vegetarian food. I've eaten at a few veggie spots in Seattle-- I still consider Plum Bistro my favorite.
I rolled out of bed sightly still drunk from the night before hoping to cure it's alcoholic rage. It wasn't super busy, and I was super excited to try this place for awhile.
I ordered the winter tofu scramble- Kale with garlic, onion and tofu along with Parmesan cheese and a ball of sun-dried tomato. I figured I needed grease so I ordered a side of veggie sausage. My roommate ordered the normal breakfast with eggs toast and veggie sausage and the forager scramble. The veggie sausage tasted like falafel. Loved the cheesy grits, and my roommates loved their potatoes. However, the sun dried tomato compote on my winter scramble was super salty. I couldn't use all of it on my scramble.
The overall experience was what it is. A-OK. Server was mediocre. The water fountain in the middle of the restaurant was awesome. It was like we were eating in a green house. If I go, next time I'll try their dinner. -

Food tastes OK. Nice flavors. However it did not appeal to my indian palette :(. Its not definitely $$. One thing that I was extremely disappointed about was the serving size. I cannot believe that they are trying to feed full sized men!!!

Service - cold as ice. No sense of humor, not even a smile from the staff.
Ambience - inner part is cozier than the atrium like area
Food - meh. A $12 salad that has a ton of spinach and some mushrooms??? I guess it is Madison Park...
Also, I know some folks have marked that this place is good for kids. I think the food options are way too complex but sparse for kids to choose from. -

I too have gone to Cafe Flora for meals. I don't have a beef with their menu.
What got my craw this time is a friend tried to book a birthday dinner with about 12 folks with Cafe Flora and it appeared that Cafe Flora did not want a party that had some Deaf patrons to patronize their establishment.
Of course they can serve whomever they wish. That is a major turnoff. -

I'm a nanny, so the kid-friendly atmosphere is really great. The service is lacking. The food is average tasting. There's a good variety of things to eat, and I've liked both dishes I've had here (mushroom french dip, vegan biscuits and gravy).

Review from Lilia C.
Every single item the group I was with ordered was nothing short of exceptional. We stopped in to eat around 1pm on a Monday so it wasn't crowded at all. The ambiance is very nice and the service, while not outstanding, was still friendly and helpful with the menu.
It was during restaurant week so a pair in my group went with that option since $15 is a steal for 3 courses at this establishment. My brother ordered the Portabello French Dip with yam fries and I had to go with the Potato Pesto Quiche which was superb. The pesto was so flavorful and the quiche had a perfectly balanced blend of potato and cheese. Other excellent options I got to try a taste of were the Caesar Salad with gorgonzola added and the absolutely amazing Pear and Brie sandwich. Wow. That will probably be my next meal there.
For drinks they had 2 beers on tap and a fairly decent selection of bottled beers. The cocktail menu was extensive with many tasty sounding options but I went with the Garden Flora - cucumber infused vodka with a very spicy tomato juice mixture and garnished with a delicious spicy salt rim and pickled asparagus and bean sprouts.
This restaurant is delicious and an excellent option for vegetarians! -

went there Saturday night.. great food.. pretty slow... I still have no clue what a gluten and why it's soo demonically evil now. It's probably worth the wait if you're into locally grown, organic and gluten free. The whole business complex seems to host sustainable organic businesses. ample parking. Four of us had appetizers, main entree and dessert plus tip and tax for 80.

w o w ?!?!??!??!?!
can i please give this place like 10 stars?!?! nope..im not .. and im giving 4 stars.. and here is exactly why...
i had the gluten free falafel w/ the yam fries... w/ all the sauces.. and they were ALL GLUTEN FREEEEEEEEEE!!!
i basically licked my plate clean....i didnt leave any crumbs behind.....
eat it and try it for yourself!!! and i promise! you wont regret it! My server was very sweet. I dont remember his name, but he looked young.. brown hair..?? :)
the only thing that kind of put me off about this place..was the one lady that brought us our tea.. i dont know her name either.. but she was kinda rude.. i've never been to cafe flora before.. let alone seen a timer for tea (mind you, theres like three different timer on there..). so when she came around to set it down on the table, she started taking EXTREMELY fast.. to the point where i couldnt quite hear or understand her, so i replied "i'm sorry, what was that?" and she replied in a very quick, cold way "I'm sorry, I just explained that".. and then she repeated herself again... like it was SUCH A DREAD for her to explain it again. when it only took like 5 minutes of her breath.
Not sure if she was having a bad day.. but that kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.. besides the awesome food i got... i know when someone is rude.. and i know when their tone is rude.. and body language is huge.. this lady was not having a good day. but again.. if you're working in the service industry.. SUCK IT UP, and dont bring it to work. we come to a place to dine.. and have a good time.. your stinky attitude really brings it down.. but i guess i can kind of relate.. 'cause i can see how "ANNOYING" it can get when you have to repeat yourself over and over again..about the same thing. blah what a dread.. and that is why i dont work in hospitality..
everything else was amazing though, my server.. cute guy w/ brown hair was awesome, the PRICES ARE AMAZINGLY affordable.. unlike some other "organic" raw places....
the last thing i really liked was that i didnt feel bloated or shitty after eating it. Its very healthy. :) AND DID I SAY DELICIOUS!? -
Review from Joel R.
I had eaten at Cafe Flora for brunches in the past and vaguely remembered liking it. Since these meals all occurred in the distant past, I suppose my memory could have failed me. I certainly was disappointed by my recent dinner here. I suppose it was a bad sign when my group walked into a mostly empty restaurant on a weekend evening, but we were not deterred. Even though the restaurant was nearly dead, and even though two managers informed us that we would be seated quickly, it took a few minutes for my party to be seated anyways. When we finally sat down, it was by the restrooms. In a nearly empty restaurant! I won't address the quality of our waitress, suffice to say that we got better treatment from the managers. The best service we got was from the water boy (his words, not mine).
As for the food, it was so-so. Nothing special for dinner here, although nothing especially bad, either. Everything was "not quite", from the sweet potato fries that were not quite crispy to the cabbage roll that was not quite interesting. I have less to say about the presentation, which was not appealing. The plates were almost cafeteria-like. So despite my fuzzy recollections of better times, I can only rate Cafe Flora by what I know, and nothing about my dinner here is going to convince me to come back. -

I have been a loyal Cafe Flora customer for a year and a half, but after today I doubt I will go again. I went for lunch, arrived at 1:20 PM. Was promptly seated right across from the kitchen door (where waitstaff is walking in and out of).
I was seated for literally ten minutes and despite waitstaff walking past me at least a half dozen times, I didn't have water brought to the table or even have anyone come up and ask if I wanted to order.
Finally, after 10 minutes, as one waitress walked past my table, I said: "Excuse me, could I have some water? I've been sitting here for ten minutes and...". Before I could even finish that sentence, the waitress made a face and kept walking. She then walked past my table again without making eye contact.
At that point, I got up and let the hostess know what had happened. She was apologetic, but I was too upset at the rudeness and lack of service to stay. -

While I am still smitten with Café Flora's food, the service here is consistently cold, unwelcoming, and unfriendly. We dined here December 17th, 2011 and where greeted by the same woman that usual greets us: larger, black clothes, curly hair. I am assuming she is the manager. She consistently gives off the vibe that she hates people and has little patience for them. Needless to say, her, as well as the rest of the staff we encountered that evening, were all fairly lifeless and unfriendly. Not one smile from the entire staff.
As for the food, my date ordered the black bean burger and while it had great flavor, it was lacking in texture. It was rather mushy. As always, the tofu coconut appetizer was delicious and we could not get enough. Additionally, the sage/potatoe/cabbage soup was divine. It was creamy, well-seasoned, and had great texture. The desserts here are also amazing and well worth every bite.
Lastly, we were scheduled to have out wedding reception here this next summer but no one ever returned our calls or emails. This too was very frustrating since we love the food so much.
So while the food and the atmosphere are unique and often divine, I don't think we will return anytime soon. I want the whole thing: service, food, atmosphere, and returned calls/emails. Please work on your customer service...your food is too good to be served by such a lifeless/non-responsive staff. -

I love Cafe Flora. I've been a bunch of times since my last review, and it's really awesome. Their menu changes seasonally, which I appreciate, and everything I've had has been delicious. The service is also usually friendly and prompt.

The perfect place to take people who are gluten/dairy free and/or vegan. And has someone who can eat whatever they want, if I could cook like this every day, I'd be a vegan too!
The broccoli cheese soup is amazing, so are their pizzas. And the desserts. Oh. Em. Gee. There are no words to adequately describe just how good they are!
The ambiance is so relaxing, the service top notch. Really unique and wonderful restaurant. A must go whether you are a local or visiting from out of town. You won't be disappointed! -

This place has been on my list for a good while. I have been wanting to eat here for a while, but I don't have many friends who want to eat vegetarian/vegan.
Now I'm not vegetarian or vegan, but mind you, I kind of become one as the day goes.
Quick story, in an attempt to eat healthier I have added vegetarian/vegan elements to my diet. As in my breakfast is super carnivore, and as my day progresses I end up vegetarian or vegan.
fast forward........
Okay! So thanks to V.Lo and her awesome Breakfast Club events I finally got to come here.
Oh me oh my it was good! I got the Basic breakfast. Think your average Denny's platter but with a vegetarian flair. Eggs, soy "sausage," cheesy grits, toast. All good, the soy sausage could be better and more "meat" like, but overall not bad.

I had the denver scramble with tofu and it was amazing! For me, a vegetarian who doesn't eat egg, this is the easiest place for me to go with more options than just oatmeal and granola.
I haven't been here too many times so I'll wait to give it 5 stars after a few more tries. So far, I like the concept here and have no complaints - favorite brunch spot in Seattle. -

I had forgotten how much I love this place. When I went there this weekend they didn't have what I usually order (hash) and I was forced to choose something else only to realize that they have way too many awesome things on their menu.
They have the best vegan eggs in ever, better even than actual eggs. I am not vegan and am addicted to cheese so I always order my vegan scrambles with cheese which gets me some weird looks but the vegan eggs are so much better than regular eggs that I can't help myself.
The beignets and cinnamon rolls are also delicious. If you have to choose, go with the beignets though.
They've got some great beverages as well. I'm partial to the Cringer, it's a little sweet and a little tangy, and a lot awesome.
They do great dinner too, but they really shine at brunch. -

Why have I eaten here several times? I quess it was for so-called organic fair and so forth. But the menu is stale and the management is nasty rude. There are other alternatives that are not nearly as expensive and the food is far superior. And did I mention not having to put up with Rude nasty managment?

Cafe Flora is by far one of the best places for a delicious, vegetarian brunch. When I lived in the Central District, I would walk over for brunch on Sunday at least 2 times a month. I've brought many friends here (some who liked it, and some who didn't like the lack of meat), however everybody loves the beignets with the chai creme fraiche. I'm a big fan of the Cringer Mimosa (house-made cranberry and ginger juice with champagne). The staff has always been friendly and professional, not to mention timely and attentive.

Good brunch menu! 4 stars! My favorite is the smoky greens! Give me a big bowl and I am happy...yum yum!
I went back for dinner and ordered the mushroom pizza with gluten-free crust and it was gross!...not worth it (hence, 2 stars and the average being 3 stars) The gluten-free crust tasted weird and the toppings were scant...really?! Don't order it. The color was off too (greenish looking) oh, and the pesto tasted weird...maybe the pesto went bad...who knows...so-o disappointed and didnt finish it; just picked off the few toppings. Also, the waitress didnt even offer to exchange my order for something else. She made a comment about how I barely touched the pizza and I said "yeah, it's not tasting right." hint hint... anyways, I'll go back for brunch and possibly for lunch or dinner again but I definitely won't be ordering the gluten-free or pesto pizza. -

When my husband and I entered this evening something happened that has sadly become rather common, we were left standing at the door for several minutes waiting to be seated. With two staff members within sight at the bar, I felt pointedly ignored. Shortly after I decided to sit the wait out, a woman approached and explained that they had stopped seating at 9 p.m. We exchanged a few words, which lead to our having been mistaken about their hours.
My husband checked his watch as we walked back to the car, it was 9:02 p.m. He immediately turned to go back in, to say I can't imagine what. While waiting yet again for acknowledgement, he heard the hostess tell another employee "I've already told him we're closed". This person then told him the same information, in what he described as a "snotty" tone of voice. He wasn't even given a chance to speak.
To be treated this way at a restaurant where we have been so generally well known is insulting. I don't expect special treatment, if you're closed, I'll leave. What I do expect is to be greeted promptly and treated civilly. No matter the hour.
Cafe Flora was once my favorite restaurant, no questions. Now we will never return.1 Previous Review: Show all »

This may be a case of "maybe it was an off day." Our service was indifferent to the point of being frosty. The food was ok, nothing special. If the yam fries were fried one more moment, they would have been burned. We had a pear and Brie sandwich which was billed as having crispy grizzled onions, but they were simply caramelized. The whole sandwich was cold, including the bread. Our black bean burger was better, really tasty, but worth 11 or 12 dollars? No. We waited 15 minutes to see our server to ask for our check, then just about that long to get our card and receipt back. Seems like an odd place, but they must have a loyal following from the Madison Park residents.

I brought my Mom and My Brother here for dinner, and I would be embarrassed to recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially for the price. In fact, we were in hysterics laughing at the food. I guess we should have known when we got the wood-fired pizza for an appetizer and the crust was like dough. Don't you wood-fire a pizza to make it crisp? This was just a harbinger of things to come once we got our meals. Drinks were super weak. It baffles me that this place has so many good reviews. Maybe people are just used to bad vegetarian food in Seattle. One star for the ambiance and the endless amount of laughs the food gave us!
