This place always reminds me of my romantic idea of what an ideal coffeehouse should be that is smart, small, cozy and serving great coffee and pastries. Maybe the pastries is just asking for icing on the cake but at Cafe Demetrio you get it all and some nice icing on top of it.

Chess is the theme at Cafe Demetrio and you can go head to head with your coffee companion but if you're not in the strategical mood then head out to their charming, little courtyard.

Enjoy the complimentary Wi-Fi and great coffee. This is a really good spot for leisurely Saturdays.

Feel like wasting Money? Well Demetrio is the place for you!

The lovely interior and cute little courtyard in the rear will definitely get you laid when you're trying to impress some nerdy poetic bitch.  Also, the place is very low-key, so that really scores some points, seeing as I hate most people.

In all seriousness, Demetrio would be a great place to just simply relax, play chess, drink some warm chai tea, if it weren't for the overwhelming feeling that I wasn't invited there.  The staff had always appeared a bit morbid.  Maybe their really Goblins in disguise!  Like that movie Troll 2.

Aside the flaky staff and the slightly outrageous prices, Demetrio is a nice little hut.  Just don't ask for a refund if they get your order wrong, they rather have you ask them for their first born.

Cafe Demetrio is damn near a perfect coffee place. Lots of seating, which seems like it can do a lot to prevent group cross-annoyance. Around back is a very nice courtyard with shaded tables to which your inexpensive and well-made coffee based beverage will be cheerily brought.

They even offer free wifi. I didn't have the chance to try food, but the next time I am around Miami I'll definitely spend a bit more time here and give it a shot, even though I'm glad it doesn't seem to be their preoccupation, as it is as so many other coffee-oriented retaileries. It would be better if they were open later on weeknights, but I could see how the area foot-traffic probably doesn't support that sort of operation.

Cafe Demetrio feels like an actual coffee house -- go here if you want a cozy ambiance, excellent coffee (better then Starbucks), and a place to idly chitchat, study, or play a nice round of chess. Their appeal is enhanced by the FREE wifi they offer here. Once you order your coffee, take a seat at one of the tables and the cafe ladies will deliver your drink. On the late evening we went, we sat in the back and felt like we were in a  homey hall, people on laptops, one person idling at the piano, others having a good debate. We played chess.
This place is old-world in a good way.

Miami doesn't have enough of these type of independent coffee houses. I'm definitely going back to Demetrio's.

I have to take 1 star off because the last 2 times I came, they always seem to run outta pastries and seem in a bit of a rush to close up early.

This is a great little spot for food or coffee.  They have the bestest best best guacamole!!! Yummsss!!! And their mexican chicken platter can make your eyes water.
Their prices are good, the service... hmmm... depends on the day... I've seen the ladies behind the register arguing more times than I've argued with my own mother.
They have a little patio that is just adorable if you want to enjoy the sun!

This is my favorite non-Cuban style coffeespot in Miami! Er... Coral Gables.

The patio is beautiful, in the day and at night. Inside, it's kind of small, but it is very cozy. Coffee are priced like Starbucks, as this is not a typical Cuban hangout place. But it is not overpriced either as this is not South Beach. This is ranked high in my list for the cozy factor, not necessarily the trendy factor. There is another coffeeshop in Coral Gables that is trendy, but not as cozy.

There is free-wifi, salads, sandwiches, and chess games you can play, as this coffee shop is very chess-oriented.

It is my little refuge after work, in Miami. It is also close to Books & Books bookstore, another plus!

There's also live music Fridays and Saturdays and a wine type of happy hour.

REVISITED: The desserts didn't impress - they were just decent, but nothing special. The sandwiches are a bit better, and the gyro was good. I just would come here to chill out with friends and talk over a cup of coffee. And play chess and listen to live music. That's about it. It's still a much-needed coffee shop in Miami area.

REVISITED: They drew a heart on the foam of my cappucino! How sweet! And a dessert DID stand out this time - the mousse de dulce de leche. The tiramisu was good too, but that mousse is going to make me want to look for it everywhere I go now!
