Seattle, WA
The location and view help keep this place busy. It's upstairs with a lovely view of mainstreet. In winter, get a window table reservation at 4pm (a few days before your trip). This provides a nice view of the tree lighting, but you'll be inside and warm!! Also, until 4:30pm, they are still serving at LUNCH prices. After 5pm (once the lighting is finished) there will be a line down the stairs and out the door...there just aren't that many Leavenworth restaurants.
Food is mediocre to decent. The things we've eaten have been 3 star quality (if I'd paid dinner prices, maybe I'd be less impressed). Their soup tends to be okay, and the potato pancakes are tasty (although pretty greasy).
The staff have to wear these silly costumes, and they all seem overworked. But you can get a beer for less than $5 and decent sausages, while being warm inside watching them light the trees. So it's fine by me. -

DO NOT EAT HERE! Ok, with that being said here comes my review. It was me, my wife and 2 year old daughter going out to dinner. First off, we were asked what drinks we would like. Both my wife and I ordered ice tea and a kids cup water for our 2 year old and if they had them, a lid for the cup (being 2, drinking is still messy). We were told that they can not give us a kids cup lid unless she ordered something to drink. That was our first red flag, they they said the lid would cost them 75 cents so they do not give them up. (really, 75 cents for a fast food lid??).
So, we ordered. The food came out and I was terribly disappointed with the flavor or lack there of. What I ordered was a pork fried breaded something (the waitress recommended it saying it was there most popular dish) but it had ZERO flavor. I asked for A1 or something to give it some flavor and she handed me mustard. The plate also had this red cinnamon spiced cabbage, which wasn't bad itself, but it was juicy and the juices took over the plate getting over the meat and the potato wedges. It made everything taste like cinnamon and the food not having flavor to begin with, that was the flavor you got.
My wife ordered chicken pasta sprinkled with olive oil. The menu said "sprinkled" but when she pushed the pasta to one side of the plate and tilted the plate up, there had to be almost 1/2 a cup of oil dripping on the plate. It was drenched with oil, not spices, just olive oil and she had the same complaint, zero flavor. Needless to say, she didn't finish her meal either.
We decided to cut our losses and leave. We asked for the check. We asked for the check again 5 mins later (having a 2 year old wanting to leave, that 5 mins seemed a lot longer), then we asked for the check a 3rd time and started to leave then (if they don't want to bill me, then so be it). She caught me standing up and handed me the check. 2 drinks, 2 meals and a kids meal came to $66.75. Wow! We paid, left and will never return.
Very poor service, very poor food, not kid friendly and although bread is included with your meal, you have to ask for it, it is not offered. Horrible place, DO NOT EAT HERE! -
Review from Etta T.
Bleh. We were looking for a place with indoor seating and a decent view of the street upon arrival and discovery of the giant line outside Munchen Haus. I wish we would have waited in the line afterall.
Cafe Christa reminds me of Denny's... if my grandmother's tacky floral couch barfed on it. I half-expected a couple house cats to come wandering around the tables at any moment, or to be asked if I "finally had a boyfriend yet".
The decor would be forgivable in such a place as Leavenworth, WA - but the food just really wasn't. Everything was mediocre at best - nothing was good.
The service, however, was decent... so they get a star for that. Moral of the story: there are many other choices - you might want to make sure you choose a better spot if your visit in Leavenworth is short enough to want to make a bang. -

So, my girlfriend and I did not eat here and instead just wanted to have a drink prior to our dinner reservation at Cafe Mozart. I had a few samples of the German brews on draft, as I rarely have the chance to drink these in this manner. My girlfriend chose the spiced wine option.
Neither one of use were particularly impressed, but the quality of the beer and wine can't be attributed to the establishment. The service was par for the course for a business in Leavenworth: friendly but slow. The location is wonderful though, as the views offer a warm view of Front st., which during winter is quite lovely. -

Crappy lunch.
Ok, se we got the sausage sampler to share which we were told by the waitress that it's big enough to be a full meal for a person. It definitely isn't. Three half sausages, a tablespoon of potato salad and a tablespoon of funny tasting sauerkraut which I didn't eat at all. I'm not planning to get sick right before a 2.5 hour drive.
Afterwards we got the Bavarian sandwich. Which sucked. It was small and mediocre. Oh, and very very expensive.
The coffee I got was so thin that after I drank half of it I could clearly see the bottom of the cup. The coffee was actually worst than my all-time bad coffee from 7-eleven.
Oh, and I have never ever had to ask for a cup of water in a restaurant before.
Total? Heh.. 40 dollars for two sandwiches, a sampler, a coffee and an ice tea. On a handwritten bill :) for which the waitress changed tone when I handed my credit card. No paper trail, huh?
Needless to say I'm not going to that joke of a restaurant again. -

Overpriced.
The schnitzel sandwich was good but the "German" potato salad tasted like someone poured too much vinegar in it. My main dig is how overpriced everything is here. One sandwich, a bowl of soup, and two beers was $35 before tip!
Beers in particular are way overpriced here at $7.50 for a pint and $16 for a liter size mug! Go to Munchen Haus instead and save! -

Do NOT waste your hard earned money. I have had better meals that were nuked. You do not get your money's worth here. Not even if they give it away. Go to the gas station and you should be able to find a better meal.

The sign out front says Fine Dining. That couldn't be farther from the truth. I had my suspicions and I was right. The food was bland and very cafeteria. Do not recommend.

Have eaten here several times for lunch and not during a busy weekend. The food was good, not the best but certainly worthy of repeat visits. The staff was very friendly but as I noted, it was not a busy time.

When you're having a bad day, you're having a bad day!
This place was recommended by the owner of one of the shops we hit.
Cafe Christa has second floor seating with a nice view of the downtown area.
Christa was in a bad mood. = ( She's the cashier, hostess and occasional server. After she rung up everyone, she made contact and she half-ass greeted me. She gave us a nice "cozy" table with a nice view.
"Can I get a highchair?"
"I don't have one for her."
"That's o.k, I'm going to flip it."
"You're not suppose to do that."
"Yeah, I know, but I've done it before and it's o.k."
"Like I said, you're not suppose to do that."
Wow. My sister got pissed off and the nearby tables made a funny face at the hostess.
I laughed it off, because she was obviously having a horrible day to be picking on a young family over a high chair situation she wouldn't even be liable for. HANGETITTEN SCHLAMPE!
We got a nice waiter. He was Mexican and, although, he had a THICK accent he spoke it very well. It was quite refreshing. After he made a few recommendations we ordered. My bro-in-law had the Jager Schnitzel. My sister had some kind of German Reuben sandwich, and I had the Kasespatzle.
Two bites and I knew I had better macaroni out of a box! Does it come with HAIR?!! Because if it does, I got jipped, because my Kasespatzle only came with ONE FAIR STRAIGHT HAIR!!!
Hurensohn! Ficken Scheisse!!
I didn't make a big deal. I called the waiter over and told him in a low voice. He offered another lunch (I declined), but no apology. He hid from our table the rest of the time. He kept sending his buss boy and the cranky bitch of a hostess. I don't blame him, but that of course made things more obvious.

Won't be coming back, and not interested in giving this place a second chance.

Walking around Leavenworth tasting wine and shopping sure can make a girl hungry. So what's she to do? Go find someplace to eat and Cafe Christa was there to feed me on more than one occasion. When ever I end up here I always start off with a liter of beer of what ever I'm in the mood for that day, I've never had a bad beer here though I think I favor the Bitburger Pils just a little bit more than the rest.
For food I'll either pick a special of the day or go for Jager Schnitzel (tender pork cutlet, breaded and pan-fried) or Huhner Schnitzel (chicken breast breaded and pan-fried) both come with spatzle, and red cabbage, I can normally do with out the red cabbage but the spatzle is pretty tasty. If you come with a group and are starting I suggest starting with Camembert it's a soft cheese round, breaded and deep fried and topped with a delicious crack sauce, for two people it's too much with lunch or dinner, with four people it's not bad you'll still have room for your entree. So if you get hungry from shopping or wine tasting don't be afraid to stop in here.
Oh just note the bathrooms are really odd to get too and after a liter of beer you'll for sure have to go, but just follow the signs and you'll finally make it.Listed in: Leavenworth it's not just a…

How is it you say "blah" in German?
I'm not entirely sure, but if I had left Leavenworth this weekend with just that word in my German repertoire, the review of this restaurant could easily have been summed up in just that - blah.
Things were off to a rocky start when the apple cider I had ordered arrived in a saucer filled filled with the hot liquid instead of staying inside the cup where it belongs. (Oh, and before you call me a little ninny for ordering a non-alcoholic beverage in a town filled with delicious wine and beer, I was merely pacing myself. So back off.) In a timely manner the food was brought out, and the Bavarian sandwich I had ordered looked/tasted more like a Lunchable-special than a yummy treat. Basic hot dog bun-esque with various meats and cheeses inside. Not horrible by any means, but not something I would ever order again. And the German potato salad? Pure vinegar, with little potato taste. My beautiful lady ordered the German pancakes - hardly finishing them as they were just as bad.
I left the place wishing I would have braved the rain and simply sat outside Munchen Haus for some better fare. Alas, that is a mistake I don't plan on making again.Listed in: What's Prima / Nicht Gut In…

Whenever we're in Leavenworth, we eat here. YUM. The first time we went was when my parents were visiting- and the 4 of us ended up waiting a REALLY long time for a table. With no word on how long the wait would be, there was no staff present at all, it took forever. But once they got this party of 12 set up, they finally took us in. The next visit we made sure to have reservations. :)
The food here is so so good. I get the Rheinischer Sauerbraten, "Braised beef marinated in vinegar, juniper berries, red wine, and herbs." OMG so good. It comes with red cabbage and spatzle too, both are SUPER yummy. My hubby is into sausage and gets their handmade sausage sampler- Knackwurst, Weisswurst, Hot German, and Bratwurst- they're ALL tasty.
We have also tried the German meatloaf, "frigadelle", and it was awesome. Last time we went they had a "reuben soup", which tasted like a reuben in a blender. It was absolutely delicious. And if I were going to attempt to recreate it at home, I'd throw a reuben in a blender and add some cream. That stuff was amazing.
We're going to be back in Leavenworth at the end of April- and OH YEA we're eating here again =) -

We were camping about 10 miles away and came into town for our anniversary dinner. Our party was me, my wife and our middle child ahd her two kids. So we were there with a 7 year old and a 2 year old. the 2 year old got cranky and the waitress / owner Crista tried everything she could to cheer him up. I should give them 5 stars for her friendly and heroic effort.
My wife and I had the Enchantment Platter for two, which came with an appetizer, a soup or salad and we both had the lentil soup and a sampler of Jäger Schnitzel, Frigadelle topped with sautéed onions and melted swiss cheese, half of a Bratwurst and Knackwurst Sausages.
Served with spätzle, red cabbage and sauerkraut. The Jäger Schnitzel was our favorite, but it was all delish. My daughter got the Sausage Sampler which had half of their 4 different home made sausages.
We even had a few leftovers which we incorporated into our camp breakfast the next morning. -

When in Rome.... okay so this is a mini Bavaria, built by the chamber of commerce of the city of Leavenworth, but hey, it's a cute place to visit, when the snow has melted!
Went in the off season, Spring-ish, went white water rafting, man was that water freaking COLD!! Any-who, stayed over night and ate here for lunch.
This place is truly what Leavenworth is all about, Lederhosen (http://en.wikipedia.or...) included!
We got to sit on the outside area, if you check out their website we are the couple at the table behind the flower box on the right hand corner.... I kid, I kiiiiid!! But we did sit there.
Jager Schnitzel for $10.99(Mittagessen/Lunch price) in a tourist trap! Not bad... flavor was good, schnitzel fo shizzle, I luved it. Spatzle to truly enjoy and savor....I'll pass on the red cabbage, but that's just me.
Not the wurst nor the best (3.5 stars actually) but with little or no good German restaurants to frequent in the greater Seattle area, since Schnitzelbank in Kenmore closed, oh sooooo many years ago, this place is now my fav. Of course that's only during the off tourist season...
Pricey for dinner but then again you are in a tourist trap!! Go and enjoy "Bavaria" in the Spring time! (Spring time for Hitler and Germaneee...) -
Review from David E.
This was reccomended by a friend and I am so glad we tried it out, even while Oktoberfest was in full swing.
I see a lot of poor reviews, sometimes a place deserve that, but I could not find any reason for a poor review. Considering it was Oktoberfest, we only had to wait 15 minutes to get seated. While we waited I started off with an Oktoberfest draft, seemed like the right thing to do and was very happy with that. We started our meal withthe sausage samp[ler and went into an order of wienerschnitzel, schweinebraten, both were served with spatzle and red cabbage. Everything we ate was delicious, and the service was excellent. Again, this was all during Oktoberfest and things were very busy so I have to give them 5 stars.
I am sure this will be a regular stop when in Leavenworth. -

When in Leavenworth, you gotta have Bavarian food, right?
We found this place that had a couple vegetarian dishes, so we headed upstairs to this "Fine Dining" establishment.
The food was certainly average and they had some authentic-sounding dishes like sausage platters and some vegetarian thing called Ksesptzle, and not-so-authentic dishes like pasta primavera and a Reuben sandwich, which I enjoyed but thought there'd be more sour kraut.
Their on-tap beers were excellent, they have about six or so German beers on tap, of which you can get up to a liter... er... litre, and lots of bottled German beer for $6 for a 17oz-er.
Everyone seemed happy with their dinner and drinks, we stuck with sausage/chicken/vegetarian meals, so nobody got fish, but it was a little cozy and the art on the walls was fun to look at (check out the web page). The view overlooked Front Street which was still lit up with Christmas lights. It was a slow night, so we did have to wait for the waiter to come be the cashier as well.
I think the most "authentic" part was the imported beer, 'cause we didn't know any better! -

I wish I had checked out Yelp before eating at Cafe Christa. But we were just walking down the street, got hungry and went in to eat lunch. I had the Reuben - it was quite good. My wife and daughter had the half sandwich and soup (substituted the french onion for the soup of the day). The sandwich was really boring - some meat on bread and soup was just ok. The food is ok, but I have to believe there are better places to eat lunch in Leavenworth.

Randomly strolled in here... and we were overall happy with our lunch experience. I had the jager schnitzel which I found to be rather delightful but a touch under-seasoned and my darling friend had the wiener schnitzel. Both good... the spaetzles were a bit disappointing, I'm a bit of a spaetzel spazz and these just weren't really cutting it for me. The red cabbage was just how I like it, so yipppeee on that. Lemonade was kinda nasty, but my iced tea was fresh and tasty. Service was a little odd, but nice enough. I may go back, but I'd probably be more interested in doing a little more research and experiencing something else next time.

My mom wanted to eat here. She claimed we had been there before. I don't really remember. Well I will sure remember now.
Ugh, the most blech, underflavored food I've eaten in a long time. Let me preface this review that my mom and I are not ones to ever salt food that is served in a restaurant. In general we don't like salty food.
Let's start with my "in house made soup of the day" Turkey vegetable. The turkey was some kind of processed turkey meat. It was disgusting. The soup itself had NO flavor. Added some salt but it didn't help.
Our food came next. My mom got some kind of pork roast. She had to add salt. The red cabbage was good. The spaetzle was meh.
I ordered the salmon with dill sauce. My salmon was so overcooked it was like rubber. The sauce was tasty but there was three times too much of it. The cooked carrots looked good, but tasted literally like nothing. No amount of salt saved it. It came with fried potatoes which were pretty good. BUT I wasn't going to eat that sad salmon that cost $17. Yup that's right $17 for rubber! I sent it back and asked that it be cooked medium rare. The response was that it could not be done because they did not have a warning on their menu about undercooked foods. I get it. I was a server. There are two groups you don't want to piss off. The Boards of Health and Liquor Control. So I ordered the Icicle River Chicken to replace it. Breaded chicken breast, spaetzle and those same carrots. The sauce on the chicken was "cranberry, raspberry, almond" It tasted like someone put jam on my chicken. Again there was three times too much sauce.
We split the black forest cake which was the only thing I liked about the whole dinner. It wasn't stellar, but the cherries in it were really nice.
The waiter was nice... -

RUN - to a different restaurant...... So many good choices (this is not one of them....) Went on a field trip and my daughter and 2 friends wanted to eat here because they had cheeseburgers.... Caved into them.
The cheeseburgers were plain and small - they were $10.99 + $2 for a handful of fries, a glass of pop was $2.75 so it was close to $20! with tax and tip for a subpar burger happy meal......
One girl got the French onion soup and she said it was ok but I don't think she would know. I had German food - the sauerbraten was tough, cold and way to vinegary. The spaetzle was overcooked in the microwave and the red cabbage was ok.
Our server was nice but the place is right out of the 60's - tacky, small and cramped.
Total bill was $65 which I felt obligated to pay since these kids had only brought $20 each for spending money and I couldn't let them spend all of it on a bad lunch.............
I read the reviews - should have RAN! -

The service wasn't really that personal, but it wasn't bad at all. I had the jäger schnitzel which tasted good but definitely wasn't authentic and my red potatoes were cold, which is an obvious sign they were sitting waiting while my schnitzel was cooking. Overall, a pleasant experience, but it wouldn't be on my top list of places to go again.

Our first Leavenworth dinner of Oktoberfest weekend was at Cafe Christa. I had the rindsrouladen with spatzle and cabbage. I really enjoyed my dinner. The beef dish was tender and tasty. I have never had spatzle before and it's really good. The cabbage was good, too, not too spicy and seasoned nicely. My hubby had the wienerschnitzel with pan-fried potatoes and cabbage. He very much liked his schnitzel, the gravy was very good, too. His potatoes were the perfect balance of crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. I enjoyed the Paulaner Oktoberfest a lot, too. We came back the next night for the apple streudel dessert with vanilla sauce. It was decent, not the best I've ever had. They also serve liters of beer, which I failed miserably at drinking after dinner elsewhere and eating a few bites of dessert there. Next time I will start with the liter of beer. We will definitely go back next time we are in town.

the location is great, the setting very cozy but the food, the waiting; there's serious room for improvement here. The food is pricey, servings small, and just not very German. Too bad because, as i say, the setting is great. Oh well, the search for good reasonably priced food in Leavenworth continues !

While visiting Leavenworth, my friend and I were looking for a place to enjoy some German potato pancakes and sausage. We had read about Cafe Christa on the Internet and finally found it. They had a great Hefeweizen on tap (Erdinger Hefeweizen) and the spicy German sausage was delicious. Also, the sausage and potato pancake came with an apple compote that was to die for! The potato pancake wasn't the best I have had and had a somewhat lemony taste to it. However, the service, beer, and other food was great! I would recommend it and would like to go back again to try out some other dishes that looked interesting.

Born to German immigrant parents, I am happy to find this place. The food tasted exactly like home growing up as a kid. The service was phenomenal and the food was delicious. I believe that some reviewers don't really know what German food tastes like because the reviews of this place certainly don't match the restaurant that I visited. If you want the taste of authentic German food, given in a fake German town, then you can't go wrong with this place.

I have eaten at Cafe Crista many, many times; the food and service has always been consistently wonderful. Their sauerbraten is awesome and the reuben is the best I have ever had (ask them to add sauteed onions!). Not the least expensive place to eat, but quite honestly, I have never left hungry or dissatisfied.

Where to eat in Leavenworth? Not here. I was hoping the one star reviews on Yelp were overly negative. Guess what? They aren't.
We had: cup of goulash, cup of pea soup, wiener schnitzel, chicken cordon bleu , mac and cheese and an apple juice (yeah, I have kids.)
The goulash was OK mostly though not heated through (someone forgot to turn it in the microwave). Mostly it was OK because you can hide a lot with spices.
The pea and ham soup seemed as though it had been made from frozen peas that were then undercooked. Perhaps they had thrown it out in the snow and then thought better of it and retrieved it after a few minutes? The three year old managed a fair few spoons of it before giving up the fight so that is a plus.
The chicken was store bought (I was going to write Costco but theirs is far better) and served with attrocious "fresh" vegetables.
The mac and cheese got two thumbs down from the five year old, however, I wouldn't read too much into the whims of a five year old grader.
Saving the worst for last, the veal. Now veal is baby cow - yeah cruel I know but I like veal. What I got had the consistency of deep fried beef jerky. I can only wish it had the taste of beef jerky since it just tasted of the overused and exhausted oil from the deep fryer and had an aftertaste I'd rather not think about too much lest I place it.
We got some bread too (extra charge). The only relationship it bore to German bread was that it was dark brown. Apart from that it was Wonderbread all the way.
It wasn't all bad: the apple juice was good.
Total for this gastronomic excursion? I left a $0.45 tip to round up to $60. They should have paid us to eat there.
Cafe Christa bills itself as "fine dining". They also have a bridge in Brooklyn you might be interested in buying... -

We went here for lunch because we wanted to try their sandwiches. Leavenworth is filled with brats, but Café Christa has some other choices. We loved the chicken cordon bleu sandwich. Came with chicken cooked perfectly, ham, cheese, and some wonderful ground mustard. And the ambiance is really nice. It is on the second floor overlooking the main street with plenty of cure Bavarian décor inside.

We were there last week. I was hoping for a nice dinner in pleasant surroundings. The food was really horrid, everything tasted as though it had been quickly re-heated - or warmed over. There was only one other person dining and I think the locals must know how blah the food is. Also, there is absolutley no atmosphere. A waste of good money. When we visit again we will steer clear, that's for sure.
