5 reviews for Cafe Central
My husband and I recently dined at Cafe Central. This was a fairly regular occurrence before the birth of my son, but not since. We had a wonderful meal. The cream of green chile soup was divine (even more than usual). The salmon/caviar appetizer and beet/goat cheese napoleon were both very good. We drank enough wonderful wine that I don't really remember my entree. My husband got a desert that had cookies that I found a tad undercooked.
We had our rehearsal dinner at Cafe Central several years ago and were very well treated. We were very pleased.
On another note, the service at lunch has gone down over the years. I remember five years ago when the bread baskets were overflowing. Back then, you could get in and out in a reasonable clip. Hopefully, things will revert...
I have only been there twice, both times for lunch. The food is generally quite good, but the lunch service is disorganized. I've had the same waiter both times (a guy with a slight Irish accent), and he's just a little too much for my preferences -- over-attentive. He spends a lot of time talking about what good service he's trying to give our party; I wish he would talk less and give us more actual service.
Expensive. Well, the fanciest restaurant for the area (menu good, ambiance ok).
Given some of the other choices in town, this place had fresh green salads and veggies, the staff didn't mind when we added a few more to our party on a weekend night, and the selections were perfect after a busy work day running around town. I don't know if I'd go here every night, but for a business traveler, this is a good choice after a long hard day!
This is going to sound harsh, yet here it goes. Overpriced, poor service and overrated. My wife and a couple made reservations for their "New Years Eve Dinner" and it was a huge disappointment.. It was a prix fixe of $125 per person and the carte had excellent choices, unfortunately not everything was available. The appetizer I selected was the salmon with cream and beluga, which was minuscule even for haute cuisine standards. The carte had 4 selections for salad however only two were available so I settled for a less than impressive Caesar Salad. The main entree selections also came with limitations, the cafe had underestimated the amount of lobster required for the evening. By the by, the girls wanted lobster tails. So if things weren't bad enough, of the five dessert options, only two were available. Something called the "chocolate tower" and a torte option, neither were appetizing and somewhat reminiscent of a poorly thawed out 'Sara Lee". All together the evening's climax was a poor champagne offering and they joy of good company. In defense of the establishment, I had the chops bloody rare and they were great. Overall, I have been here a total of 5 times and it appears as if with each visit, the cafe comes up lacking just a little more each time.
