This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants! The food is good, I've always been particularly fond of the buffet --- in fact, I craved it during both of my pregnancies! The ambiance at Bombay is pleasant and the staff is very nice. Conveniently located in the shopping center at the corner of San Antonio and El Camino, I've found Bombay Cafe to be a terrific location for lunch or dinner.

I came here for the first time today. Cafe Bombay has an elegant interior, very comfortable. The host is very friendly and accommodating.
I had the Chicken Makhani (butter chicken), tofu saag, Masmati rice, and naan. The naan was served on the buffet which is disappointing, but it was not stale or crunchy, so not a total loss.
The rice was made perfectly. The chicken makhani was decent, as was the tofu saag. The taste of both dishes was pretty tame, no heat at all, not even mild spice. It wasn't bad, but not very impressive either.
Drinks here are self-service which is great. I hate going to a buffet and then having to order my drink from a waiter and then wait forever for refills.
My total with tax was $12. Kinda high considering I only ate a single plate of food, but I guess that's the risk in going to a buffet. I think they should drop their lunch buffet price by a few dollars.
Overall, a decent lunch experience, but not a restaurant I will be coming back to ever. The food made me sick for more than 24 hours.
I finished my take-out and my heart is racing. The Prawn & Potato Vindaloo and the Garlic Naan are awesome!
The Buffet is available for take-out orders which is a huge PLUS.

Wonderful buffet, owner is friendly and service is great - drinks refilled, fresh hot naan delivered speedily to your table. Stop in and check them out, they are really an undiscovered jewel in the heart of Silicon Valley.

We usually go to Cafe Bombay when we don't want to pay for the more expensive Indian buffets in the area. Bombay's buffet selection isn't quite as impressive as others, but the food is tasty and their reasonable price helps to make up for it.
It's never very busy when we go, but the owner is very nice and it definitely feels like they're happy to have you dining at their restaurant whenever you come in.

It's not the best indian food i've ever had, but it's good, reasonably priced and very convenient. it's the perfect place for great indian takeout for lunch. owner was very nice and friendly. definitely will go back
Just finished having lunch here with our group and was a little disappointed by the buffet line. The menu had a lot of good dishes but the buffet didn't come close to capturing the essence of the menu. There were about 10 dishes in the buffet along with rice and salad and a tomato soup. The selection was pretty limited in comparison to other buffets i have gone too. The quality of the food was ok... didn't upset my iron stomach.
The staff are very friendly and helpful and attentive.
If i plan our next group Indian lunch, there are better places to go.
I love Indian food and Cafe Bombay is my favorite. The owner is incredibly nice and the food is fantastic. It is so good that even though we've moved to San Jose, my husband and I drive all the way to Los Altos when we are craving Indian. I'm not a big buffet fan, so although I've heard this one is great, I skip it and head straight to the menu. My favorites are the keema samosas, garlic nan, chicken tika masala and the chicken korma. Just writing about it is making my mouth water! Yum! :)

Absolutely my fave Indian restaurant. FYI- my review is based on their buffet, not menu as I haven't ever ordered from the menu. Their buffet although small gives you a little taste of everything. From their yummy nan to a green salad with yummy dressing ... delicious curries and even fresh tapioca for dessert. If you haven't given Indian food a try yet, try this place - and try their buffet. You'll get to sample some great dishes and see what you really like. And, the owner here is super friendly as well! Enjoy!

This place used to be CRAZY busy during the boom. Now whenever I go in there during lunch... it's kinda sad.... not so busy.
But this is still one of my fav places to go. the vegetable koorma dish is yummy... but I understand that not alot of indians like it. The naan is good and plentiful... and it's that standard pricing of like $11 for the lunch buffet or so.
oh boy do i love buffets, and this place always has one. they never bring me my drinks though. and going upstairs to the bathroom is like exploring a haunted community theater.
We used to go to Cafe Bombay a lot when I worked in the area. I too love the vegetable koorma and nan just like eric k.
I still go there from time to time just for the veggie koorma YUM!
Yum! This was my first time trying Indian food and now I WANT MORE! :) We ordered chicken masala, boti kebab (lamb), rice w/ peas, naan, and chai. Mmmmm! Everything was delicious!
The place was pretty empty, aside for a few regulars who were quite chatty with the owner. By the way, the owner was the server -- the place was empty enough that he didn't need wait staff (except for a nice lady who cleared our plates, filled up water, etc).
The restaurant looks really clean, and the restroom was really clean too (that's always important!)
Too bad I live so far away.
Indian food (emphasis on take-out) is usually big, filling and cheap. I was looking for a place to seriously stock my fridge for a few days.
Well, (1) Chicken tikka masala, (1) Veggie korma and (1) Garlic naan came out to $28 and provided exactly 1 large meal (for one person... could have been stretched into a meal and a small snack). Ouch. So it's certainly not a place to stock up on microwavable dinner for a week. On to the food...
The CTM was good. Not stellar. The chicken was a little tough, as if it had been cooked and left in the fridge for a couple days before being "tikka masala"-fied.
The veggie korma was not so good. Since when is korma a yellow soup? Maybe I'm spoiled (check out Ruchi in Overland Park, KS), but this was just nothing like I was expecting and not in a good way.
The garlic naan was great. Warm, strong without being spicy and great for absorbing all the "soup" that was my veggie korma.
All-in-all, I imagine this would be a good, if a little pricey, eat-out dinner spot. Just don't expect much from your doggie bag.
