I really love this place! Its hard to find good delivery food other than pizza. Cafe 1626 has a wide variety of options on their menu, and its all good! My boyfriend and I get delivery from here all the time. All we do is call and they have our address and phone number on file. I recommend the stuffed jalepenos. They are SO good. :)

Cafe 1626 is the bomb!! They deliver to Buda!! But, going there is so much more fun. Big greasy hamburger with a salad instead of fries. And a whole order of onion rings. They even have great spaghetti and meatballs.
Bring some cash to play games after dinner. Elvis pinball!!!

Pretty decent stuff! I usually do the chicken burger which is huge. I love it's large dices of chicken. Great salads...Delivery could be a lot faster...
We had Cafe 1626 deliever dinner tonight-- for the first time. I've been hearing about this place from neighbors. The food was good and hot. The Meatball sub was tasty as was the Philly Steak sandwich. They've got a decent kids' menu as well. It's great to have something other than pizza or Chinese delivered without have to spend a fortune for those multi-restaurant delivery services.

They will bring a chicken fried steak to your house that is bigger around than your head. It's so big that it's in its own styrofoam container, which leaves the second styrofoam container (containing two smaller containers) full of comfort food goodness - real homemade-like mashed potatoes, gravy and Texas toast. Environmental packaging faux pas aside, anyone that will bring mashed potatoes and a side (because mashed potatoes are my main event) to my house deserves stars and maybe a hug.
My kiddo loves their grilled chicken burger, which is only burger-like in that it's on a bun. This "burger" is large strips of perfectly marinaded grilled chicken strips. It's darn tasty like their fries. Their burger burgers are great too. I really like the blackened cajun burger, but don't believe the menu, it's not *that* spicy. I haven't tried any of Cafe 1626's pizza, pasta or salads yet, but I will, you betcha because some nights I am just too damn lazy to make something and I want it brought to my house.
Which is exactly why I cannot comment on the interior yet. We've tried several different things off the menu, but because they deliver, I haven't felt the need to go there yet. I can say that the service on the phone and on my front porch has been very friendly and efficient. It's never taken as long as the 45 minutes they always estimate. One day I'll go there and update this review - I heard they have a TV. And beer.

I took my family to this place awhile back. I had kind of hesitated because it looked like another pizza joint. I was very impressed with the hamburgers, chicken and pizza. The food was great. They were very busy but we were able to get our food without any holdups. For a place that is not the normal pizza joint, this place is on the top of my list.

This is out past Slaughter and Manchaca and it was a real treat when I used to live out there. I've had their chicken sandwiches, pasta, burgers, fries, onion rings, chicken fried steak and I've never been disappointed. They also deliver, as Regina M. has pointed out, which turns out to be a huge plus. I sure to miss this place.

I am completely and madly in love with the chicken philly sub at Cafe 1626. Everything from the chicken (tender and well-seasoned) to the bread is delicious. The fries are pretty darn good, too. I'm also fond of the regular philly and the cheese sticks. I had a swiss mushroom burger once, which was good, but not the best in town.
I haven't tried the pizza yet, but the dinner buffet, which includes salad, is a good deal at only $6.95. I usually opt for takeout, so I can't talk extensively about actually dining there. They do have a big-screen TV and inexpensive beer, so it might be a good option for watching a game.
If you're looking for a cheap, delicious takeout option on the (far) south side, Cafe 1626 is the way to go. And definitely try that chicken philly!

Good chicken fried steak, good meatball subs, and exceptional Oriental chicken salad!! Nice, friendly employees, great for eating there (sports on the tv's if that's what you like), drive thru pick-up, or delivery. They have a menu on the website - which isn't quite complete - and save you going out in the rain!
