Maynard James Keenan from TOOL unveiled his Caduceus wines last night @ K&L Wines in Hollywood. Its was a limited tasting of 4 different bottles of red wines ranging in price from $29-$95. Very impressive! The Naga was the best in my opinion but a little steep for the pocketbook @ $69.
Was able to talk to MJK for a few minutes and I found him to be an intense yet humble guy... we talked about art, music and his new wines.
He signed the bottle of Primer Paso ($49) that I purchased and we got a photo opt with him. I look forward to trying some of the white wines he spoke of and the 2010 releases.

It's funny how actors want to sing and singers want to act, and everyone and their mom wants to direct. Well, the singer Maynard James Keenan of Tool wanted to become a winemaker. If he weren't the serious type I'd say bringing in grapes from the central valley to the dessert to make the Nagual de la Naga, which is a Cabernet/Sangiovese (sangio being one of my faves) blend would be a crazy endeavor. However MJK succeeds wildly and the wine is actually quite tasty. Maybe steep at $70 (but look at the effort he's putting in) but definitely unique.
