Cadillac Hotel
6 reviews for Cadillac Hotel
So, here's the thing....
This place might not be Chateau Marmont but is has serious flavor, I stayed here a few times when the management of my Ex's building put him here during renovations and such.
The parking situation is a little wacky, its off a little ocean side street, part of it is on a weird incline, and the spaces are kind of tiny, my car inst huge(I've got an 08 XB) but I worried about dinging other cars when I opened my doors.
The staff is awesome, super friendly and down to earth, the rooms can be on the small side, but you are on the beach, and shouldn't be spending much time in your room anyway. The beds are teeny, my Ex was around 6'5, and we were huddled up on the bed, arms and legs danging off. It was an experience to be had.
The decor is CRAZY, but good crazy, kind of like that weird hippie aunt or mother you have, it's Art Deco meets Tropicana, it reminds me of some of the smaller boutique hotels in Miami.

My buddy and I stayed there 2 nights during the second week of May, 2009. The first night we stayed on the 4th floor. Our sleep was interupted by the lack of ventilation. There is a window that we had open, but no other way to let the air flow in. So we baked all night. At 3:30am we propped the door open and the place cooled right off. The evening air temps were around 55 degrees. So the rooms should not have been so freakin' hot. Even the hallways were about 55 degrees. We moved to the 3rd floor the second night and were cooler, but still too warm. Part of it I think is the covers or matress pad felt like they were mostly made of plastic. I think this contributed to us over heating. We paid $140 each night, plus had to pay $10 each night for a parking spot. They failed to mention this when we made reservations! WiFi is also extra at $7 per day. If your window is open for ventilation, since there is no air conditioning, you will hear the noises from the folks at the restaurants and bar. Parking was not too huge of an issue. You have to back out about 100 feet each time you want to leave.
The location of the hotel is great. Lots to see and do in both directions. The rooms were clean and in great condition. I could really appreciate the nice bathrooms that only had a shower, no tub. Not all of the rooms are laid out the same even though they are about the same size. Some have the sink NOT in the bathroom, some have it in the bathroom.
There is a nice eatery called Candle Cafe literally on the corner out of the front door of the hotel, with lots of outdoor seating with overhead gas heating. Very nice! We had 2 breakfasts there and one dinner. They were good. There were several more places right out of the front door of the hotel. We didn't try them, but they looked inviting. Nice to have food so close to the hotel with a view of the sunset and ocean while we ate. I'll write a review of the Candle Cafe separately.
Losing as much sleep as we did due to overheating is unforgivable of this hotel. That's why I rate it 1.5-2.0 stars.

if you like roughing it and don't CARE if the carpets are a bit damp, because really, you're on the OCEAN and like atmposhere ...
stay here.
+ cheap. in 2006 $50 a night, remember this is the beach.
+ GET the corner room on the second floor facing the ocean. two big
windows in front, open them up. and you're IN the ocean.
-: parking SUCKS. really.
-: no restaurant or food places near OR open past 10p when we were there.
overall: we would stay a week there to make ART or MUSIC or something else =) ...

This little-known small hotel is where I lived for more than a month when I first landed in L.A. (five years ago). It's on the Venice Beach boardwalk, steps from the sand and sea. No frills, but much cheaper than other beach hotels. It could have been cleaner.....and quieter. Nick, the manager, has been there for decades. Eclectic European charm. Art deco lobby.

Seriously, I've been in better hotels than this in Bolivia. And for way less money. I'll just get the deal killer out of the way right now: the carpet, or rug, or whatever the flooring was made of was sticky and greasy and slick. You know, like old blood had maybe soaked into it? Or someone had had an orgy in a whole bunch of dead fish? Yeah, that kind of sticky.
But I found that out after I tried unsuccessfully to sleep on the one-foot wide slice of dried out foam rubber that they were passing off as a mattress, and the pillows that must have been stuffed with leftover pasta noodles from the Italian restaurant in the ally next door.
Oh and the shower--don't bother. Trust me, you'd rather stay dirty.

This Hotel doesn't even deserve one star!!! OMG I've been on the phone with them for an HR and didn't get reservations. I called them and got a Sales Representative by the name of Richard who quoted me for a 1 BD with 2 full beds for $172/night. He stated this was the only on left. Then I told him that on the website it quoted me $149/night with the exact dates and beds. He placed me on hold and responded that the rates are different based on description of the room. (which was BS). He then spoke to his supervisor again and could not honor the price online verses what he told me over the phone. He then transferred me to Customer Service who Maxi was the rep who then could not help me with the price change. She then transfer me back to the Sales dept. Miles(female) who then was the sales rep I finally spoke with that got me nowhere. She quoted me the same for $172/per night for dual beds and I told her the website quoted me different and cheaper. She could not honor this because her reason was b/c that the rate was $129 for 1bd (queen). Note: I didn't eve ask her for a 1bd room. She checked the website and confirmed that the rate I was asking for is correct but still could not honor it. She place me on hold and spoke to her supervisor. She came back and told me that for dual beds and a 2 night stay and this hotel will be $799/night and that she can give it too me for $599/night. WTF!!!! I ask for her manager and she could not transfer me to that person. She suggested for me to speak with her supervisor and placed me on hold once again. I waited for the supervisor for 20mins and never got to him/her. These reps don't know what they are doing and saying. They gave me conflicting reasons and prices. I spend an hour on the phone to get no where. This reflects on the entire hotel. By the way I had to walk both Richard and Miles (Sales Rep) over the phone to get to the correct website and tell them how to search for the rates. They are not trained professionally nor supported by an experienced supervisor. Poor Sales rep and Customer Service. The entire staff needs new management. (Hospitality Management is a plus when properly executed) They lack everything! Pricey for the rate Of $799/night at an average hotel with limited parking that you have to pay an additional $10/night.
