I have driven past this place so many times, and so many times have I thought  "I must try that place" and thats judging a book by its cover!!!

So my mother decided to take my suggestion tonight and we ate at Cacciucco....and absolutely enjoyed it! First off the resturant is small and intimate, so you will never feel overwhelmed by any means. The menu is the perfect size, I had the Saltimbocca Chicken which was a great choice and for an ap we had bruschetta which also was fabulous. The service was supeeerb...we got seated in less than 3 minutes on a Saturday night, this place is GEM!!!!!

Living in Marin there are plenty of great places to eat, and Cacciucco would for sure be one of those places!

Found just south of the main Sausalito retail area, this restaurant is a find. In the evening FREE parking is located under the restaurant and the entire experience was hassle free (some place around here have no parking and snooty servers.)

The service was great and the King Crab Ravioli was equally wonderful. The owner/server suggested a bottle of wine that was perfect for the table. I really enjoyed proud family run atmosphere, it really felt  like you were in someones home.

When I am back in town I will be visiting again.

I'd give this 4.5 stars!  Everything about this place was amazing.  The atmosphere was romantic, and the service was very good.

All the food here seemed to be fresh and homemade.  There breads were homemade (thus so were their crostinis) as well as their pasta.  They also used all freshly grated aged cheeses, and all their herbs were garden fresh.

Great wine list, too.  Excellent tiramisu.  I'd definitely come back time and time again.

In town visiting friends and drove by this place while looking for something to eat.  My wife said to pull in so we did.

AMAZING choice.

Everything was fresh and delicious.  The service (I think it was the owner) was very very good.  The ambiance was wonderful.  The wine list was great.

If this place was near where I live, we'd eat there very very frequently.

I took my mom here for Mother's Day. She loves Italian food and being by the water, so this seemed like a good find. We had an early lunch on Sunday, and were one of only tables of diners. It seemed like they were still preparing for the Mother's Day rush that soon came, so our drinks took some time to arrive at the table. No worries, as long as they arrived.

Even when it did fill up, we could talk easily without yelling. Which is a bonus in my book and increasingly uncommon these days.

The food was good. We ordered simple dishes, and the fresh noodles in the spicy meat sauce was excellent. The salmon with fusilli was decent, but after a few minutes it got rather cold, or perhaps just room temperature, and the sauce and salmon bits become a pink mush. A tasty pink mush, but not very appealing to look at.

Overall, we had a great time. The environment seems better suited to a nice night out rather than lunch, so I plan on returning, girlfriend in tow.

This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants. It's got a great ambiance, novel entrees and  an amazing wine list.

The Crostini Misti Bruschetta and Salads are truly different from what you'd find at the neighborhood Italian restaurant and great tasting.

We tried the FAGOTTINI AL SAN MARZANO (Homemade pasta purses), BUCATINI ALL'AMATRICIANA (Bucatini with Pancetta) and PENNE NERE AL SALMONE (Handmade black penne with fresh Wild Salmon) all of which were quite good and left us yearning for more.

Although it's a tad bit expensive, it's once place to make a occasional visit feel more special.

I've been here twice now and it was awesome.  I went alone the first time and had calamari and a latte and was quite impressed.  The service was great.

The second time I visited, I went with the girlfriend, and I had the polenta followed by the gnocchi with a latte.  The polenta was topped with mushrooms and gorgonzola - drool - I want more!  The gnocchi was awesome and served with fresh tomato, basil, and olive oil.  Very good, very satisfying, very filling.  Everything I had was very fresh.

My girlfriend had the mussels followed by the lobster ravioli with a cup of coffee.  The server actually brought out steamed milk with the coffee.
Her mussles had a good flavor to them and the ravioli were very nice, she enjoyed everything very much.

The service was excellent, even serving a glass of water deserves high marks - normally you just get a glass of water, but here they put the water in a bottle, chill the bottle, and bring out a nice wine glass and pour the water for you.

I highly recommend.

My boyfriend took me to Cacciucco Cucina Toscana to celebrate after I found out I passed the bar exam.  We decided pretty late to go, but were able to get a reservation at 8:00 with a mere 2 hours notice.  We ordered a glass of prosecco to start, which came out pretty quickly and was an excellent pairing with our antipasto.  For that we had these decadent risotto balls, which were very rich and a little...much.  They were also about the size of my fist, which was alarming.  Anyway, we both had the ravioli filled with butternut squash, pumpkin and ricotta which was to die for.  Granted, I was coming down with a cold so things didn't taste as vibrant as they would have otherwise.

Having just returned from Tuscany, we found the menu and wine list to be very authentic.  For as many tables as they have, however, having more than one bathroom would make sense.

My friend and I decided to come to this place because of the great reviews on yelp and the high number of stars.  Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed by the food.  2.5 stars.

Positives:
The service was friendly and the waiter knowledgable.  He was eager to help us select our wine and ensured that my friend got her vegetarian food.  We went super early so the place was quiet and service attentive.

Negatives:
So before people start to write me hate mail about "shooting my mouth off" about things I know nothing about (yup a fellow yelper, elite no less ... wrote me hate mail about a review I made) - my disclaimer here is obvious ... I'm not Italian, I didn't spend years of my life in Italy (just a few months) and this is MY review and MY opinion.

I thought most of the food was rather bland.  I had the spaghetti allo scoglio (spaghetti with seafood ), my friend had the vegetarian ravioli (which was a daily special) and we shared the arancini (fried saffron risotto balls).  I felt like I added salt and pepper to all my food and she was underwhelmed by the meal as well.  The tiramisu was good, but it was served in a wine glass.

Finally, I think the part about the entire dinner that threw me for a loop was that the olive oil was bitter.  It wasn't because it had gone bad or anything, but there was a very distinct bitterness to it.  I'm not sure if it was because of the slices of oranges marinating / garnishing the plate of oil.  I asked the waiter about it and he agreed that it was bitter, but that's what they use.  I'm not sure if that's an aquired taste or a flavoring distinct to this type of Italian cuisine, but it wasn't one I was partial to.  This made me sad because the bread they served was perfect ...

The antipasto was good, the other items we ordered were...lacking.

The Ravioli Di Zucca was not as flavorful as it could be, and my pasta dish was interesting to say the least.

The waiter flirted extensively with my date, which I found amusing.  The arrogance of the rest of the staff, I did not.

Pretentious, and  expensive for what you get.

Would I return? Probably not.

Save your scratch. Go elsewhere.

I visited San Francisco and stopped by Sausalito this weekend. Me and my friend spotted this restaurant randomly because we were too tired to go find restaurant in San Francisco.
We were very lucky to find this restaurant without knowing this great review here.  I ordered seafood with squid ink risotto.  All seafood was really fresh and risotto was fantastic!  My friend ordered margarita pizza   which was thin crispy pizza. It was same as what I had in Italy. Service was friendly and felt warm welcome. I will definitely return this restaurant aagain when I return to this town.

yo, lobster ravioli gets two thumbs up.

nothing goes overlooked.  even the little mista side salad has a little love.  i gobbled up the tuscan pappadelle and i heard the prociutto pizza is amazing though the busboy whisked it away before i got to try it and didn't ask if we wanted it wrapped up (minus the star).

i can't say anything bad about this place except that i wish i could eat more at one sitting.  i'll write more as i get to sample more of their menu.

We've eaten here twice, and the brushetta alone will keep us coming back.  Our recent dinner was a "special" - swordfish (only available if the owner finds it in the day's catch, and if he likes the look of it).  Before our dinner, my favorite swordfish dish was "grilled" at Legal Seafood in Boston.  But the swordfish at Cacciucco's was every bit as good and prepared with a Tuscan flair.  (Our earlier meal here was also very good.)  Slacks and a casual top easily fufill any dress requirements.  A 3-course dinner for two with wine and tip will likely break into 3 digits.

The town of Sausalito, one of my favourite places in the area, holds a free art walk every other Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:30. Along with being a good place to look at avante garde artwork comes great food. In fact, I think I scored a decent Italian meal with a gorgeous view. Sure, Caciucco doesn't have lasagne, but the owner made it just for me. Oh, the house wine is great. As it turns out, the owner is from Tuscany. So the restaurant and owner fit right in to our Tuscan village about 1 mile north of San Francisco. Oh, and the owner knows and, indeed, collects wines from Italy. He was explaining to an adjacent table about how wines are sold in Tuscany.

wow.  i really hope this place was just having a bad night because we were beyond disappointed.  we went here for valentine's day and they were slammed (should be a good sign, right?)  they seemed terribly understaffed, which is understandable.  that was the only excusable part of the night.
wine:  the waiter (who had awful body odor that encased our table every time he was around, which wasn't very much) didn't even let us taste the bottle or open it in front of us.  he wandered over and poured the wine, very sloppily, and then just walked away.  it was awful.  nothing like the description on the menu.  we decided to tough it out and let it go.  (i later saw a guy two tables down send back the same wine and we wish we would have done the same.)
apps: we had the tuna tar tar which was horribly presented and tasted just barely better than that.  it was drenched in some indescribable sauce that was obviously used to cover up the lack of freshness of the fish.
entrees:  i had the sea bass which tasted fishy.  it wasn't edible.  my husband will eat just about anything and he couldn't even go there.  his chicken dish was bland and forgettable.  about 20 minutes after being served, he came back to check on us and asked why I hadn't eaten my fish.  I said "I'm very sorry but it's quite fishy."  He was apologetic and offered to bring me some petrale sol but really, at that point I just want out.  he should have checked in a few minutes after we were served.
instead of taking it off the bill, he gave us another bottle of the awful wine and said "happy valentine's day."  really?
we passed on dessert and were out of there.  nothing like a liquid diet and a cliff bar from the market down the street for valentine's dinner.
entrees

I went here with a good friend for dinner for our girl's night out. Very disappointing.  My entree was okay, but forgettable. My friend's though was very salty, I mean like really extra salty.  It had olives in the sauce and then I think the chef must have done an Emiril like BAM BAM BAM all over with the salt. She took about two bites and then when the server finally came to check how it was, he refused to credit our bill even though she had only taken two bites and we had tried in vain to alert them right away (in spite of the fact that the place was nearly empty, there wasn't a staff member in sight one we got our food). The waiter was very rude about the whole thing, and wouldn't make her something else or credit our bill. He seemed to insinuate she was trying to eat two meals free or something. Nice view and decor and the food I had was pretty decent but they'll have to do better with service and actually taste what they send out to be more than a two star waste of time and money for me.

Whether you sit at the bar by yourself and have the delightful spinach salad with pears and Pecorino and perhaps an equally tasty pizza, or go with a group of friends for a long and luxurious dinner, be sure and ask the proprietor, Davide, about the wine.  His selection of Italian wines changes all the time, so there is always a new adventure awaiting.  Good food, good wine, friendly and competent service.  It will make you smile.

Located outside the hustle and bustle of the downtown Sausalito commercial district, this place has a nice feel too it and at night there is plenty of parking in the basement of the office complex that they are a part of. Unfortunately it lacks a view of the beautiful bay and lights of Marin County.

Even in well to do Sausalito, the prices seemed a bit on the steep side. For as few diners as there were on a Sunday night I found the service surprisingly inattentive.  One odd thing I noticed was there was a note emblazoned on the bottom of the menu advising parents to keep their children in check, or something to that effect. I seldom see such a blatant anti-children position taken by a restaurant, but when I do it rubs me the wrong way. While others have commented about how the place is such a genuine Italian experience, yet my experiences in Italy is that most restaurants there, even higher end restaurants, made parents with children feel very welcome, and often fawned over your children. So I'm not sure what genuine Italian experience people are referring to, but this aspect was not it. On this particular night I did not have my kids with me, but as my kids have been to more 5 star restaurants than most adults and behave appropriately, I found their attitude objectionable.

Overall the food was decent, but not exceptional, and did poorly on the value equation. The wine list, which was comprised of all Italian wines, seemed particularly expensive.

My husband and I use to live just up the hill and that's where he proposed... 8 years ago. We loved this restaurant when it was still Vicino. After being closed for a few years, we were psyched to see it reopen.
Well, the decor is pretty much the same but the prices have nearly doubled. We went back several times and were a little disappointed to see that the service and the food had really gone down.
It has become a traditional Sausalito restaurant, average food, bad service and high prices.

We rolled in on a Saturday night, around 8:15 pm, without reservations. The place was half empty. Still, the manager seated us right next to the door. When we asked if we might be able to move in a little bit, to one of the half dozen empty tables, he said no. He was smarmy (as JR says below) and even bizarrely hostile from the outset. Was it because we were dressed California casual? Because one of us was Asian? Or the other had a foreign accent? We were baffled. We decided to leave; oddly, he said a cheerful goodbye to us before we even stood up. We will never go back.

Isn't it suspicious how all the reviews here are five stars, except for the few real people, who all had disappointing experiences? The owner is someone who obviously spends more time harassing his friends into posting on Yelp than he does in providing genuine, honest service. Even the best places in SF don't get all five-stars.

Wonderful atmosphere, quiet, cloth tablecloths, tables well spaced.  Friendly and efficient service. I ordered the Nocetta salad with gorgonzola, walnuts and raisins. I loved it.  A little too much dressing for my wife's taste but I like it that way. We also ordered the Bruschetta which was very good. My son's Papparadelle was the best he has eaten, my wife loved the Pasta Amatrica (?sp) and I enjoyed the Petrale sole. The poached pear dessert was a bit of a disappointment.  We will definitely be back again.

I heard great things about this restaurant from fellow yelpers and was really excited to  try some new italian in the bay area. I called and made a reservation about 3 weeks prior to my 1 year anniversary for Oct. 27th and requested a somewhat romatic table, the host said rather rudely that he couldn't make any arrangements because "We are always busy on Saturdays"
                                       *  * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Now fast forward to Saturday Oct. 27th, we arrive at 8:00 and the restaurant is far from packed which should've been great in terms of service but it  was surprisingly unattentive. I mentioned at the time of reservation that it was an anniversary and we were seated at a corner table overlooking the street, hardly romanic but I wasn't about to complain.....Now to the food:
We started with the polenta with mushrooms, it was nice but bland. My boyfriend ordered the special macaroni and I ordered the Zucotti (squash and pumpkin ravioli) both were average with my sage brown butter sauce being quiet unflavorful.

Despite not planning on ordering any dessert anyways, the host didn't bring over anything for our "special occasion" which happens at places like Pasta Pomodoro, I'm not one to expect these things but I work at a restaurant and eat out frequently and I know how much it can improve on a customers experience. The host didn't even seem to remember that it was our anniversary in the first place.

Overall, I would say the food and service is mediocre in comparison to the prices.
